    You are the type of reviewer I want to hear from. You use the camera in the real world. You are familiar with the brand. You understand where the camera stands in the Canon line. Thank you for your insight.

      If Ibis is that good why doesn’t Sony put it in their pro video cameras? Their 5k, 7k, and 12k camera’s have optical stabilization. They also have cropped sensors and cmos sensors.

    I'm a Nikon shooter and I really appreciate this review. Main reason being that all of the smack I've heard about this system is based on specs and not practical experience. Nothing beats actually using the camera in the real world.

    I’ve watched camera reviews all day every day for the past 2 months and can easily say that this was the best video by far.
    You actually answered and thought through questions people wanted to know, not just specs people could google.
    Thanks!

    Best review i’ve seen so far. Everyone else is comparing it to everything else or to what they want to see in a camera and most of them have had it for a few weeks or couple months and only picked it up to do a review on it. You’re the first one i’ve seen that is actually putting it to work in the real world and didn’t just buy it to do a review. Great video!

    I can see the happiness coming from you as you talk about the camera, lenses and your photos are so nice. I love the tone and colour grading. Keep it up! I just ordered an RP yesterday coming from an M50 so excited.

    Very insightful and rather practical comments on this camera. I’ve been saving up for a while to upgrade my 6D. I almost went mirrorless towards Sony especially because most of my friends were switching. I’ve just been holding off n saving more towards a camera.
    I’m happy to say I placed the order for the EOS R yesterday and I can’t wait to have it. Seeing your video today just made me happy and I can’t wait to share all the content I create with it as well.

    Great review. I've had the same experience with the R. When I took some photos with my existing glass the pictures where much sharper...blew me away! I like being able to drag my thumb across the display to move my focus point but like you, I took it out on a cold morning to capture a sunrise and my fingers went numb. I had a hell of a time with the focus system. But overall, I LOVE the camera.
    I almost forgot to thank you for sharing your photos, they are outstanding!

    Cant wait to see review of 28-70 F2, and I love the way you review a camera with many sample images and more to camera function than video, because many reviewers review the camera but more focus to video specs.

    This is the review I want to see and hear. A lot of people jumped to conclusion and had so many negative comments before actually using it. And once they got their hands on it they liked it. People don’t want to or like to adapt to something new which might be the reason they disliked it at first or still do. It’s Canon’s first mirrorless camera and I know there will be a bunch of improvements.

    Great review!
    I use two of these for weddings as well. I’m glad I resisted the temptation to jump to Sony mirrorless. It took Canon long enough, but I’m happy with this first step.
    My biggest gripe is the single card slot, but it doesn’t bother me too terribly, as long as I don’t put all of my eggs in one basket. By switching out cards frequently, I use about five cards per camera for a wedding, so that’s 10 total. If I had a card fail, the odds are that the other 9 would be fine and since I’m shooting with two cameras, I should still have some photos from that same time frame.
    A card failure would be terrible, but there’s things you can do to minimize the damage.
    I also have the same 50mm. It’s an incredible lens.

    I wanted to move to Sony because of all the positive reviews it got and the EOS R has so many negative reviews. But when I actually used the Sony, I was fighting with the camera. Using it was such a chore. I then got the EOS R two weeks ago and had been shooting 4 events a week and it was the best decision ever. But I would like to add one more “wish list” with the ones you had, which is - I wish that it has the ability to select different configurations of focus points like 11 focus points or 19 or 39 or 51 or 61 etc. If Canon can do that, it would be the ULTIMATE camera in my opinion.

    +1 on the accuracy, sat up the side of a mountain and a Royal Navy hawk came through with no warning, get less than a 10 second window when they are traveling at over 500mph, managed to nail every shot it with it in the frame, only limitation was me, super chuffed with my Eos r, I would prefer ibis but never had it so not missed it, that rf 50mm looks sexual, good video :)

    @andreasbuder4417 Před 5 lety

    Hey Alex, nice balanced review! I am constantly considering the EOS R, but ultimately I think I stay with Fuji. But I added an amazing thing to my workflow, that almost completely made dual card slots obsolete: It is the Toshiba Flashair W-04 SD-Card in combination with the iOS app Shuttersnitch. The WiFi SD-Card loads every shot in real time to Shuttersnitch on the iPad or iPhone, both full res Raw and Jpegs, in about 10 seconds, that is about 40MB of data. Very reliable at that, too. Once the shot is on your iPad, it connects immediately to my cloud via WebDAV and saves it on the cloud, while for example adding a watermark, resizing them etc. Great for sharing on the go or running a live feed slideshow. Best of all: Since all depends on the WiFi-SD card, it works with every camera without having to change your workflow. Look into that, it elevated my style of event shooting and has great backup safety.

      If you were using your 7dM2 for sports or wildlife, you're gonna find the R more frustrating that anything. Every sports and wildlife photographer that has used this said that, while it is a great camera, it just cannot keep up in these areas.

    Great video!! I am thinking between the EOS R and the R6Mark II right now....and going crazy over what to choose...my prime interest is Wedding photography, Baptism ceremonies etc....Photography for 99%, very little video...I know the R is not a great video cam, but for photography - should I go with the R6 mark II absolutely, or should I choose the R, and save the rest of the money for glass...is the R still good enough to invest in today considering my area of interest(Wedding photography)?? Or is it already outdated and not worth consideration? Thanks in advance Alex, found this very helpful nevertheless, at least in the AF area, you said the R is both fast and accurate, exactly what I need(and every other photographer as well 😄 haha ) . How about high ISO performance? Have you compared how clean the R is vs the R6 mark II??

I want to go full frame and also the electronic view finder. I hate to say this but sometimes i hate using the optical view finder, it looks too beautiful in the viewfinder but when you click it, it changes the image. EVF should be what you is what you get right? 80d has same batt with this camera. So for me this cam would be the best upgrade i could ever have with my 80d. But im still saving for that camera. Hey Alex, would love to see a video on your editing style/presets used? Really love the tones!

      If I get this a bit more I’ll throw it on the list. Next few videos I have planned are around lenses and a camera comparison :)

      I had a follow up question. You mention in the videos that the canon glass "nails focus everytime" is that when you are in the face tracking/eye focus or with center point focus or both? Thanks man! @@ABarrera

    The return window on my EOS R is about to close and I’m thinking of taking it back to the store. My main issue is the way Canon handled the blackout, which results in what it feels like shutter lag. Going from 5D IV to the EOS R back and forth makes very apparent how fast the 5D is in comparison.
    My other disappointment comes from the RF 35mm 1.8 which lacks character and images look just meh.
    Lastly I experience something I’ve never seen in a canon camera before: images on LCD and EVF look completely different colors than what they look on the computer or phone. Wether it’s RAW or jpeg they look so much better on the camera. It’s like the camera was working with a deeper color space and then translated to sRGB, loosing a lot in the process. Maybe I just got a bad copy?

    Btw, how do you like the grip on the R, and especially with regards to touch and drag focus. Do you reach the screen in an ergonomically pleasing way?

    • @ABarrera
      @ABarrera  Před 5 lety +1

      I love the grip, I have large hands and it’s extremely comfortable. When I shot Sony my hands would start cramping throughout the wedding day. Buttons and touch screen are all placed in a reasonable way for my set up.

    Since there only 1 SD card slot what do you do while you're shooting to back up?

    I’m pretty sure I’ve watched this video 50x in the last day and a half! I’m on the fence of getting this camera and lenses for wedding photography! 🤷🏽‍♀️

    I needed this! But I very interested to know what your backup solution is as you mentioned, regarding not having dual SD slots???
    Thanks!

    Are you able to shoot weddings with face detect? (If it’s quick enough.) Or do you mostly have to move focus points?

    • @ABarrera
      @ABarrera  Před 5 lety +1

      I leave it on face detect auto tracking through out the day. There are times where I have to touch a subject or area to acquire focus. So far this setting has not failed me.

    Could you share how you backup your photos when your shooting weddings? I would be so nervous shooting with a single card slot camera. Thanks for sharing your experience with it! :)

      @KyleCWong Před 5 lety +1

      Haha I'm sure one card slot is fine for most people, but I wouldn't want to be the guy who lost all of someone's wedding photos because I didn't have a backup

    Im having trouble getting my EOSR and my 600exrt to give me consistent results if any at all when shooting in ettl with rear curtain. Have you done any similar shooting? If not do you mind giving it a shot and letting me know your results? I want to know if its my particular unit or the system in general. (Using adapted EF glass)
