- Three additional classic NES and Super NES games are now live for Nintendo Switch Online members!
Earthworm Jim 2
Return to the wacky world of Earthworm Jim!
In this wild platformer released for the Super NES™ console in 1995, you worm your way back into your super suit and take on the role of Jim, the annelid with attitude! The plot picks up after Jim's successful rescue of Princess What's-Her-Name and his less-than-successful attempts to woo her immediately thereafter. Just when it seemed the princess would have a change of heart, the evil Psy-Crow swooped in and kidnapped her, eager to claim the crown for himself. Now it's up to Jim to stop their wedding, following their trail from planet to planet. But he's not alone this time-his pal Snott is along for the ride. Jump, shoot, swing, and slime your way across 10 different levels, catch Psy-Crow, and rescue the girl of Jim's dreams!
DIG DUG II
Help DIG DUG rid the island of vacation-crashing intruders!
DIG DUG has decided to take a vacation on a remote island, but the POOKA and FYGAR won't give him the chance to rest! In each round, clear out the enemies by inflating them until they burst or by digging up traps for them to fall into. But be careful that you don't get too close to their attacks or fall into your own traps!
MAPPY-LAND
Help MAPPY make it back to the party in time!
MAPPY the police mouse has prepared all kinds of wonderful presents for MAPICO and MAPPY Jr. But the big cheese of the feline world, NYAMCO, has ordered his clowder “MEOWKIES” to hide the presents throughout MAPPYLAND. If he's going to get the gifts to their intended recipients on time, MAPPY will have to double-time it on finding them! Avoid and activate traps to knock out those crafty cats headed your way. You can also use special items hidden in the level to distract them. Collect six of the same presents to move on to another stage. Can MAPPY make it through all eight towns and survive the onslaught of claws?

Finally, we have achieved Earthworm Jim.
The 2nd one which improved on the sound compared to the first one. I played the first one on Genesis, got stuck on What The Heck, those damn diamonds are hard to navigate.
WAY COOL!!
DOUBLE PLUS GROOVY!
What about the first game and I heard the second game is super hard
Except that was Earthworm Jim 2 game snes.
Oh yeah, EarthWorm Jim 2, a classic
The first one would’ve made more sense
@@RedDeadDevilTrigger tbf the first one was better on genesis . . . But they have that too so why not release it there first idk
@@jakoblinton2053 Then they should release the first one on the SEGA genesis Nintendo switch online collection.
@@RedDeadDevilTrigger The sound on SNES was much grungier, the sound on EWJ 2 is much improved and on par with the Genesis
@@RedDeadDevilTrigger same for dig dug and mappy
Man, all these games are all classics and games, shockingly, I’ve heard before! I love to see you retro games like these get the spotlight especially earthworm Jim!
This is the first time I have been extremely happy with all three offerings for the month. All three of these games I played a ton as a kid. Thank you for finally hitting a home run. All that’s missing now is Bugs Bunny’s Crazy Castle, Mikey Mouse Capades, and Rescue Rangers.
…I seriously doubt they’d ever do licensed games (as part of the subscription service specifically)
Prob depends of Warner and disney wanting to do it
I really don't see *any* mikey mouse game coming to nso because Disney owns the copyright
I love all 3 of these games too.
Lots of great games using licensed characters aren't on there, and there's probably a reason for that.
For games that don't, I personally only consciously miss The Lost Vikings, its sequel, and Lemmings on SNES. Lemmings uses the mouse, though, which I guess makes it difficult (Mario Paint isn't on there either!), and The Lost Vikings and The Lost Vikings 2 were released on Switch already, although not physically (then again, Switch Online isn't released physically either).
I wish they'd put more games on the N64 at a faster rate NES/SNES used to be
takes alot more effort for n64 because that dealing with 3d aspect of games and to have it all run decently on one emulator is a laugh, while 2d your less likely to have f it up sense it almost takes no effort to port mr game and watch type of games
Given there aren't very many good N64 games, they'd run out quick lol
Heck, at 1 game a month they'll be done with the good games in the library before the end of next year.
I wish for GB/GBA/GC games
@@Yoshizuyuner Not trying to be rude but fans ported Mario 64 to the Switch way before Nintendo did so the pace Nintendo is going is kinda lame since its a 50 dollar tier for one year
I mean its only really been out for just a few months in general is probably why. That and possible licensing with devs. I want more too (Pilot wings, please!), but I'm sure they'll be getting them out. Though at least at the N64 member level, you also do get these ones too which is good. They REALLY need to restock the N64 switch controller though. THAT all got scraped immediately and I've never seen a restock. ;; they go way expensive second hand because of that too.
(Edit for spelling and somehow adding a strikeout text on youtube. Somehow.)
DIGDUG TWO FOR TWENTY BONES A YEAR YEEEEEAAAAAAAH
Earthworm Jim is worth the 20
WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
People who don’t have to ask for Earthbound anymore: “Finally, Inner Peace”
Now it's time to ask for Super Mario RPG.
YES! I started to get frustrated everytime I would see the comments on here about the next batch of games not being earthbound and for this one most people are actually respecting the line up. To be fair maybe it's because I don't like earthbound much, but it's most games like super Mario rpg. I love that game, but I will get aggregated if there's another phase of people complaining. but it would be cool seeing super Mario rpg this year.
Mappy Land is a personal favourite. It's in my original NES system in the living room as we speak. 🐭
Dig Dug 2 is one of my favorites of all time. I have the mini arcade cabinet and the original cart. These are great additions!
Have you also played Mappy-Land?
fav game ? i dont even know what that is or about
@@retrofan4963 I am familiar with it and have played it a couple times before but not very much. I played Dig Dug 2 a ton as a kid so it has that nostalgia factor.
@@starxhilmie ok
@@matthewbarrios1028 Mappy-Land is a really great game in my opinion.
I've been into retro games for 20+ years and I didn't even know there was a Dig Dug 2!! Looks good too 🙂
Same here, I had no idea. I saw the Dig Dug thumbnail and assumed it was old boring Dig Dug, then I saw the earth crumble in the video and thought, yeah I'm putting down my phone and reaching for my switch now. :)
I played that on Namco Museum Megamix for the Wii
Same here. Man I wish we were born in the '90s.
I only know about it from Chrontendo. A series where a guy plays and reviews *every* NES/Famicom game. It's alright. Not as good as the original but good.
A real Donkey Kong 2 situation.
A Namco Museum Collection on the DS has Dig Dug 2 in it and I prefer the sequel or the original
Now that’s an interesting lineup, definitely shocked about earthworm Jim two, and I’m happy to see Namco stuff
dig dug 2 is such a good game i have good memories playing that when i was a kid. i haven’t played Mappy land but i really enjoyed the original Mappy. both some of my favorite games of my childhood
Because the NES version of Dig-Dug and Mappy weren't released in America (until recently) I played the sequels first.
Mappy-Land is a very underrated gem, I see alot of "Mappy" fans bash it, (and even the AVGN took a shot at it once) but personally I loved Mappy-Land as a kid, and I actually prefer it over the original "Mappy."
@@beauwalker9820 AVGN talked about Mappy-Land? I didn't know about that. What video did he talked about it?
As much as I love the Genesis version, Earthworm Jim 2 on the Super NES is 100% GROOVY!!!!!
we might get the other versions and the first ones to eventually
Genesis has the better version of EWJ1, but SNES has the better version of EWJ2
@@papaG6423 I see... thanks!
@@papaG6423 I never knew EJ was on SNES. Do you know why which is better on which console?
@@guardian13angel06 the genesis version of EWJ1 has an additional level if I remember correctly. However, EWJ2 on SNES sounds and looks slightly better than on Genesis imo just due to the SNES generally having better hardware/specs
Finally Earthworm Jim is on a newer system!
* 2
I've literally never been so excited for snes online. Earthworm Jim slaps
I ultimately felt like earthworm Jim SNES versions was never gonna come back on a modern Nintendo platform for a longtime ever. But it finally happened by surprise out of nowhere to see this coming!
You mean like, PC? You can get all three games for five bucks or something lile that on Steam and GOG, and that's the vastly superior PC version of EWJ2 with redbook audio
And wathworm jim 4 is in the works rn
Okay, that beginning bit with Earthworm Jim 2 was really funny. Can't wait to play it.
Mappy Land is the reason I got an NES back in the day. Well, actually it was a bootleg NES, but still. It intrigued me so much because I always liked Mappy but never knew there was any other games in the series. Once I had the NES, my mom suggested I try Super Mario Bros because she played it back in the day, and I was pretty uninterested but told her we could get it for her to play on it if she’d like. She only wanted me to get it if I would play it though, so eventually I decided why not. My first time playing it, I died really quickly. But something about that game was so special, and it made me want to play more and get better at it. Now flash forward to today, I’m a huuuge video game fan and play on all the major consoles and the oldies too. (3DS is still my favorite console though). Mappy land still holds a very special place in my heart to this day, for causing me to learn about the NES, which led me to Mario, and then the birth of one of my biggest passions in life. 🥰
0:35 That cow genuinely scares when it appears
Wow no dislikes! This service seems amazing and these must be superb games!
Yes
Actually, there are only 37 dislikes.
I have the addon to show dislikes so it's actually 20 dislikes... for now
To be fair EJ and Dig Dug are fun to play, Mappy looks like a damn mario clone tho which does not fit Nintendo’s attitude toward even potential clones
unfortunately it ain't happening :c
I'm very much excited to replay Mappyland and Earthworm Jim 2 because those games were great and wacky.
Dig Dug, Mappy and Earthworm Jim?
What a combo!
Never played Earthworm Jim so I’m pretty happy to get to play it for the first time!
You have extremely low standards my friend. :)
The first one is the best
I am from the Earthworm Jim era. It was kind of like Battletoads in that it was super popular, but also so incredibly difficult that most people can’t make it very far. It was one of those franchises people loved because the characters were cool and funny, not because the game was itself was great. But looking at the comments here seems like everybody is stoked so what do I know?
Same honestly
Yeah the cow kills the princess, it was funny
DIF DUG II IS A ACTUAL WIN
AN actual win
Mappy land and Earthworm Jim 2? I'd say this is a solid release combo. I really had fun playing Mappy Land growing up and it feels nice to see it get some sort of "revival"
Dig Dug 2 is good too.
Surprised and glad to see so many comments praising Mappy-Land as I often see people bash it, but honesty I prefer it over the original Mappy. Feels like it has more content with items and 32 levels.
Wow all classics, every one of them. Amazing.
Wow, really good games this month! Gonna play through Earthworm Jim 2!
They forgot to add the first part too of Earthworm Jim.
Nice to see Nintendo is still adding to these libraries too. Maybe we'll get some more great games like chrono trigger in future
Lol, like Square’s ever letting Chrono Trigger on here.
As amazing as that would be, I highly doubt that'll happen. Squenix's prolly gonna remake the DS version in the HD-2D style given Chrono Cross is getting a remake
Yea problem with that is square would rather sell it than let Nintendo put it on a service more than likely.
Don’t forget Mario RPG
Yeah keep dreaming.
Not a bad lineup, honestly. Never played any of these, but I have fond memories of the original Mappy as a kid.
Dig Dug is one of my favorite Retro games, and I've been wanting to play Earthworm Jim for a long time.
What about Mappy-Land?
Nintendo putting Earthworm Jim on the Nintendo Switch Online.
Me: "Well done."
Cool story bro 😎
Earthworm Jim is pretty great.
Maybe one day we'll get Super Mario RPG
Is it not there?
@@piperformerlycassette it’s on the Wii U
If more people ask for Super Mario RPG it could bring us one step closer to getting it on the Switch. Like tons asked for Earthbound and kept at it until it finally came last month. We shall see indeed :)
I played Mario RPG yesterday. watching you all wait is funny to me
Super Mario RPG! Count my vote
Great to see more games added to this service! Was beginning to think they'd left it in the dust after the N64 and Genesis services arrived (not counting the EarthBound games)
FINALLY EARTHWORM JIM I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT MY ENTIRE LIFE
Earthworm Jim 2 on SNES Online?!?!
Way Cool! Hopefully we’ll see the first game on there soon!
I'd want the first on the Genesis app since it's more authentic, sad to say that the Genesis app is on the Expansion pack.
FUNKY! 🤩
Speaking of 2, Dig Dug II
Would you happen to know if the order matters for those games? I've wanted to give the series a try and I try to focus on chronological order when it carries over, not for games like Mario or even Zelda
@@MASTERMIND2368 Storywise, there’s not much into it, except how the bad guys were introduced i think. Hopefully we’ll have another Joe and Mac situation where we got the second game first, then the first game in another update.
This was a very heavy sequel release
I remember having the earthworm Jim toy back in the day so man I'm glad this one hits home
Dig Dug is one of my favorite classic games of all time! Glad to see it
yesyes
I prefer Mappy.
I have a lot of Nostalgia for Dig Dug II because I played it a lot on Namco Museum on the DS as a kid. Glad to see it return.
What about Mappy?
@@retrofan4963 I didn’t get Mappy back then. It just made me angry because I didn’t know how to play.
@@FrickinRumbi It's simple, your goal is to get all the stolen items and not let the cats get you. You use dpad to move(Even in trampolines when you bounce up, you move the dpad what platform you want Mappy to land on). And you press the A or B button to open/close doors.
Wow I didn’t expect any of this! Thanks for surprising us with the classics Nintendo!

Earthworm Jim!!! Groovy baby
Haven't gotten to play that game in years can't wait to replay it again :D
I loved Earthworm Jim on the SNES growing up, I didn't even know there was a Earthworm Jim 2.
Can’t believe we’ve come all this way, Super Mario RPG still hasn’t been added, and yet I can still say this update looks fantastic!
I’ve always wanted to try Earthworm Jim! And Dig Dug and Mappy had sequels?!?! I had no idea!
They could send a Nintendo employee to your door to kick you in the nuts and you'd probably say the same thing.
Ironically the first Dig-Dug & Mappy weren't released on NES outside Japan until the Wii Virtual Console and MyArcade versions respectfully.
Because of that I was only familiar with Dig-Dig 2 and Mappy-Land as a kid.
Since SMRPG is a Squaresoft joint, it might be a little tricky to bring to a subscription service even if it's Mario. Still has a better chance than any other Square IP.
To be honest, I already have SMRPG for Wii U, it’d just be cool to have portably.
@@VicViper It’s the ONLY Square Enix developed and/or published game that has even a chance on being on the service.
Great game selection!!! All 3 of these are quite popular and I have heard of them before
THANK YOU for adding Earthworm Jim 2!
Nice! I've been wanting to get into the Earthworm Jim games.
an ideal list for an update! really big game (EJ2), one fairly well-known one (mappy) and one WTF that we will all try (Dig Dug 2)
Honestly, I'm quite surprised to see Earthworm Jim (I honestly thought that no more ''good'' games would come on the NES/SNES from Switch Online and that they would focus more on the more expensive option with the Expansion Pack, it's too good to see i was wrong )
Earthworm Jim is a fantastic game, I loved it at the time of the SNES and Mega Drive, I highly recommend it to anyone to give it a try.
Sweet! Earthworm Jim 2 on Sega Genesis is the very first game I ever played at the age of 4 .
I am glad we finally have Earthworm Jim. This one really shocked me but in a good way

I love Dig Dug 2. I have the original box and cart still in my garage. Played the heck out of that game.
We're still missing major first party titles like Urban Champion, Pinball, Mysterious Murasame Castle, normal Golf for the NES lineup and Super Mario RPG for the SNES lineup, but this is definitely a nice surprise selection of games, shocked EJ2 came before EJ1 did, it feels like the other two NES games feel like afterthoughts from Bamco 😂
Super Mario RPG might be a hard get sense square knows that the game is a fan fave
Do you really need urban champion 😂
@@bullsteak3468 I don't, but considering how much Nintendo loves to release the title, you'd think it would be a dead ringer for the service... Same with Golf and Pinball.
@@mariopikaman1 yeah that is true lol
@@mariopikaman1 the arcade versions are on Eshop though.
I loved "Mappy-Land" and "Dig Dug 2" as a kid, though I already have them via "Namco Museum Archives Vol.2." (Eshop game.) Still, nice to see these underrated Namco sequels on NSO so more can appreciate them. (Tip, if you time it right, you can jump over enemies in Mappyland.)
EDIT: This version of Mappy-Land has the level select and continue features nice! (Making it better than the Namco Archives version I mentioned.)
Earthworm Jim 2 was definitely unexpected and a nice surprise, as well. That game is hilarious.
Ignore this comment if you already know about it, but there's a reason for the absence of the continue and the level select features, that reason being that the Namco Archives version is based on the original Japanese one, which lacked these two features.
@@enoljosejordan oh yeah, I figured that was why, so they must of added those to make it easier for kids.
Though, one problem that they overlooked is, if you start from Stage 3-4, (I think) you won't have the torch item to see anything in the Jungle cave level. So never start from that level. (Unless you want more challenge.)
@@beauwalker9820 Really interesting fact I just discovered recently, even though the Famicom version of Mappy-Land doesn't have a continue system, it does have a secret level select. In the title screen, you press button combination to access it, similar to the level select of Super Mario Bros. The thing though is that the level select in Famicom version of Mappy-Land is not as generous as the US NES version of Mappy-Land's level select since the Japanese version only gives option to go the first level in each world. While the US version gives you an option to go to levels 1, 3, 5, 7 in each world.
@@retrofan4963 Really? How do you do the code?
Also, another fun little fact about "Mappy-land." The developer TOSE helped make it, a Japanese developer famous for relishing in rarely being credited, as they oddly like being a "Shadow/Secret developer." They helped make many other games like the "Game & Watch Gallery" series, and "Kid Icarus 2: Of Myths and Monsters" for Gameboy.
@@beauwalker9820 In the title screen, you press Up A Down B Left A Right A and then press Select and Start at the same time.
And yeah, you're right. TOSE did help make the game. Both Namco and TOSE collaborated on Mappy-Land I believe. Mappy-Land is the only Mappy game where Namco isn't the only company behind creating the game. It's really cool to know TOSE help develop these games. I played the Game and Watch Gallery series and I didn't know TOSE help out to make these games. I believe TOSE also made Super Princess Peach as well.
Me, who knows nothing about Earthworm Jim, watching this footage: “…I’m gonna love this so much, I can feel it.”

Thank you, Nintendo, for making this happen! I played this on my genesis I never played it on Super I'm loving it. You brought my worm hero and hoping you bring the first one too thank you again Nintendo :)
This honestly ain't a half bad line-up. EW Jim defiantly does most of the heavy lifting here, but there isn't a single game here that isn't as throwaway as other updates. Hope this means stuff like Gimmick on NES and Soul Blazer come to the line-up
