      Still a shitty game tho
      Edit: prepared for the discussion in the comments. I stand by it. People WANT to love this game. So they try to convince themselves while it’s sucking the fun out of them secretly wishing they were playing a better game. I tried to convince myself as well for a while. I finished it. It made me almost question why I bought a switch in the first place. Thank heavens for totk. A shame really. Because it had potential. But potential is not reality. No matter how much you love a franchise.

    2 Things I noticed that you didn't mention:
    1. When you skip the cooking animation, It fades to black and comes back a lot quicker. A small thing, but I usually have big cooking sessions in bulk to last me a couple hours, and this feels really nice
    2. Enemies that used to pop up at random do so a lot less. Yiga soldiers, chu-chus, stalkoblins, oktoroks, keese, it was so annoying just peacefully walking around and then these guys came up. They still are in TotK, but it is a lot more rare.

    Another neat thing is with the Rock Octoroks. In BOTW, they would just clean up the Rusty Weapons and make them pristine. I've heard of people missing the paraglider because they didn't think they'd get it from going to the castle. For me personally, I didn't find out how to unlock the camera until 25 hours in because no one pointed you that to the npc. Probably the only flaw of this game is that the tutorials are a lot worse compared to the original, which I honestly don't blame them for since there are so many new mechanics.

    Huge pro tip: when an unfused weapon is about to break, fusing it with another material *resets* its durability due to it essentially becoming a different weapon. And so it’s definitely an interesting way to get as much mileage out of your weapons as possible.
    Though keep in mind, you can *only* do this if it hasn’t been fused before, since fusing a weapon, using it for a bit, then destroying the fused material and fusing it with a different one won’t change its durability.

This makes it a lot easier to see what's going on, for example in Gerudo Desert when the temperature goes from hot in the day to cold at night.

    Having the ability to destroy fused items without going to the menu would be nice. The A button has no function during weapon selection screen so it's a good idea to assign it to that button. Or the game could just automatically destroy the fused item when you try to fuse a new item to a weapon/shield.

      That would be impractical. Link can only put items on the floor or cook them when he’s holding them. Plus, what if he was holding multiple? They wouldn’t be able to program a specific text that tells you that you can’t do it, because nothing would make sense, or be short enough to be used. If they used “You can’t throw an item when holding multiple” it wouldn’t be short enough.

    3 changes I feel really needs to be added:
    - followers need heck of a tweaking. They are clunky and far from polished. The amount of times I accidentally use them when I don't want is numerous. I now just go without them unless I enter a difficult battle or have use for them (5th sage is awesome for mining) .. Even then they get in the way/do attacks that cripple the flow of combat;
    - autobuild should use items from inventory. Stuff falling down/can't place/etc is just frustrating;
    - cooking needs mass production system. Showing recipes is a start, but if they'd just add "create this 5x" to the recipe and I'll even put in effort finding more recipes.
    Oh and perhaps a way to skip/create a blood moon (both perhaps at high cost) .. Sometimes I just want to do exploring/experimenting... and then boom blood moon (added that I personally feel there are far more blood moons compared to botw)

    durability was fine in base botw, but it started showing how off balance it can get with hero mode and the amount of weapons, like multiple weapons needed to kill 1 higher tier enemy.
    the one improvement i enjoy is they basicly nerfed all the weapon types but gave each weapon type a modifier asoctiated with it, so even late game the different types felt like they had use still instead of just keeping a invantory full of royal/lynel tier weapons by the time you got the majority of the stuff done. like i got a gerudo claymore fused with the strongest item specificly to take out well riding the lynels, the yiga 1h sword has stealth attack up, knights i see people use especially in the speed runs. soldiers have some nifty charge attack, and the one i abuse to all hell is royal(not royal guards) for that flurry rush boost, holy hell do these boost do a lot. the damage stays fairly consistent because its based on the type of enemys you can battle instead of going to specific areas to get the high tier weapons.(be it their is a notable fast ramp up if you know what youre doing far faster then the game is balanced around)

  • @n1nj4l1nk

    Next time the recipe book needs to be different, we should be able to view it without going via a meal and you should be able to scoll through them (ones that we don't have items for should be greyed a bit) click on one and Link makes it from there.
    The full weapons thing is a half job, it should come up any time you try to pick a weapon while having no free slots.
    The item throwing/attach to arrow menu is horrendous, it should have verticality to it so you scroll left and right to select your item but there are multiple rows (fruits and veg, herbs and flowers, monster parts, meat and fish, minerals, Zonai ect) so you'd press up on the dpad, if what you wanted was a fruit or veg you'd scroll across but if it's one of the other types you tilt the right stick down to the type then across. It would really speed things up. You should be able to fuse items to weapons from that ingame menu instead of dropping them.
    Menus should circle round, maybe a brief pause to indicate you're at the start or end then it continues from the opposite end.
    Also, what's the point of bringing a menu into the gameplay if it pauses the gameplay? It seems the Zelda team are forgetting lessons they've already learned.
    The map is far from perfect, it's become exactly what they said they didn't want during the BotW dev (it being covered in markers). It should have a key that allows you to show what sort of markers you want. You should be able to attach notes to pins that only show when you select that pin.
    You should be given the option to transfer pictures to the Switches album instead of just deleting them then transfer any TotK pic back into the game.
    Fairy fountain locations shouldn't have been given to you when you get your first. The way the icon works is great but we should have been allowed to find them alone, maybe once you've found one you can pay her to give a hint to where another is.

    • @HolyDoomfish
      @HolyDoomfish Před 11 měsíci +1

      Just skimmed through the comments to see if anyone else was bothered by the quick item menu. lol
      As soon as materials started piling up in my inventory I also realized there should be verticality to the quick menu and materials should be split into categories like you mentioned. It baffles me, Nintendo didn't think of that during their year of testing and I really hope they patch that in.
      It works fine in the beginning when you only have a few items, but as soon as you have more, it's very tedious finding the one you want because there is just too much to scroll through. This also hinders me from just trying to attach or throw random items to see what they do. The quick sort options aren't sufficient imo.
      In addition, they should've utilized the ZL/ZR buttons in the pause menues. There is a "page down" scroll with the flick of the analogue stick, but it's more awkward to use than just pressing ZL/ZR would be.
      (The same goes for unsticking items during building, the 3 ways to do that I know of are kinda clunky, I would've preferred a simple button press and those buttons are unused during the process.)

    • @n1nj4l1nk
      @n1nj4l1nk Před 11 měsíci

      @@HolyDoomfish yeah, it's so long winded. For arrows I'm finding I only really use bombs, fire fruit, glowy plants (I'm near 100 hours in on my switch play through, you'd have thought I'd know their names by now 😂) and then occasionally white chu jelly or ice grapes and throwing I only really use bombs so the most used setting is fine ig. I don't know if that would be all I used if the menu wasn't so cumbersome, most things don't do anything special when stuck on an arrow aside from slightly up the damage.
      I do wish we could toggle fuses too, like select a bomb then every shot is a bomb arrow until I turn it off or run out of bombs/arrows. Maybe it resets when I change bows too. I dunno.
      It definitely feels like some things weren't given nearly enough thought. I agree with everything else you said too (though I only know about wiggling the r stick and motion to unstick items. What's the third?).
      Oh, and then there's the equivalent of champion abilities being locked behind annoying mechanics and menus.

    For example I use the far right stamp (looks like a tower symbol to me) to mark where map towers are on the map, but I also use that same stamp to mark where the cherry blossom trees are. I also use that same Stamp to mark off when I’ve completed the quest at each stable.
    On the “main” map I use the person stamp to mark where the geoglyphs are but on the underground map I use that stamp to mark where statues are.
    I could go on and on but you get the point haha

    I never minded weapon durability, but honestly the Fuse mechanic doesn't really change how it functions in practice. There's basically no reason to use a base weapon in this game, so every weapon I use is fused before I use it. It just feels like the weapon I'm using was already in that state when I picked it up, and it breaks about when it would have in BotW.

    • @n1nj4l1nk
      @n1nj4l1nk Před 11 měsíci

      There is a reason but it's kinda grasping I guess, if you use an unused weapon until its just about to break then fuse it the durability resets. I use weapons on weak enemies until they're about to break then fuse them and they only get used for higher enemies then.

    • @endless_del
      @endless_del Před 11 měsíci

      @@n1nj4l1nkfuse doesnt reset durability. im sure youve learned this the hard way by now, but just for anyone who might stumble across the comment who's only just starting the game. fuse ADDS durability to a weapon (with a minor few exceptions) so it is always always always better to not use a weapon before a fuse is attached to it. if your weapon has 5 durability, and your fuse adds 10, using up your weapon's durability down to 2 before adding the fuse will only increase it to 12. you will get the same amount of strikes out of it no matter when you add the fuse, so it's better to have all those strikes deal more damage.

    The dialog log is annoying because it's the only button prompt on screen, so it confuses how to actually just regularly advance the text (which is B by the way, because A makes it scroll slowly).
    The experience of throwing items is really wonky because making like you're going to throw your weapon and then not is just odd.
    They have not fixed the chest problem, because 99% of the time the item you want to drop is the one from the chest, but it doesn't let you drop that. So you have to drop something else and then drop the item from the chest and pick up the something else again. Still better than BotW but I wish they fixed it properly (properly would be just dropping the item from the chest on the floor when you press B instead of putting it back in the chest). I don't care about what's the the chest but it must be marked as opened.
    Dropping items (and attaching them to arrows) from the quick item menu is terrible because there's so much scrolling. For some reason they refused to just do the blindingly obvious solution which is to make it a grid rather than a linear list.
