#NintendoSwitch #Zelda #TearsOfTheKingdom - Hry
I put 250+ hours into the game and I haven’t played it in about a week decided to give myself a break because it was literally the only game I was playing. Just an incredible experience overall.
What exactly were u doing for 250hrs that’s a long time
@LaFlame1 I'm almost at 250. I'm collecting and upgrading all armor. Got all shrines and lightroots a while ago. Trying to find all the caves. Killing lynels for fun
@@LaFlame1 pretty much did everything besides beat the game lol when I finally did beat the game I was at about 55% of completion because I knew once I beat the story I probably wouldn’t play as much which has been true 😅 I got every shrine before I beat the game. I have collected almost every piece of armor. I’ve also tried to not use guides to help find things just so I can discover stuff and it just feels really unique and special once you find something on your own by accident. Now I’m working on side quest but it’s starting to feel like I’m just checking things off the list so I needed to take a break. 😂 and having ADHD does not help when exploring sometimes I’ll just get on for an hour just to try to find korok seeds and I will completely forget about that and work on something else
I have near 200. I did not look up anything or use any spoilers so it took a bit longer.
But I would say putting 250 plus hours I should hope you don't have many other games you are playing, that's a lot of time!
Same here. I got to start me RE4 and Jedi saves all over again because I’ve long lost my place in them.
I prefer ToTK for how alive Hyrule feels. BoTW was beautiful but it really ended up feeling empty, rightfully so cuz its themes, but that sense of community and "you are not alone" in ToTK really puts it up a notch for me. The side adventures feel so much more alive than any of BoTW's sidequests. Running into the Monster hunting squads or the traveling musical group or that Hudson obsessed sign guy were stand out moments for me.
Completely agreed. Then there's the fact that so many of the people you come across in small side quests can then be found in other parts of the world (often walking along roads) and they remind you of when you last saw them and give tips about treasures etc.
Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, that was nowhere near as much of a thing in BotW and it makes the world feel so much more alive.
That pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.
I for sure prefer TotK over BotW because the world as a whole feels more alive to me. I find myself exploring, fighting, and enjoying the story much more.
Going back to botw after totk, there's something really sad about breath of the wild. It just feels so isolated and sad. Ironic since this isn't the game with "tears" in the title, but you sure can feel the "breath of the wild" in it. I love just chilling around lurelin village or riding around on the master cycle with no end destination.
Breath of the wild felt so free, interesting, fresh, like a masterpiece. But now, the runes, the puzzles, and the gameplay just feels a bit unfinished and primitive? It's like a real world "major discovery" (lol) playing tears of the kingdom.
It's like visiting Zora's Domain as Adult Link in OoT. You know it's not permanent. But it's less; it's frozen in time. And haunting.
Same
Thank you! 👍 Finally , sensible and Realistic takes are emerging. Breath tried to do the ''empty apocalyptic'' theme but it just came off awkward for me: it was neither Fallout, nor a Zelda since it was _so_ different. Dropping Dungeons cut out a lot of my motivation to play. Ganon and the sense of urgency is so much better pronounced in Tears. Action is simply better than 'isolation'. I love the ''Perfect Chaos'' Tears drops you into.
Do you think people should still play breath of the wild before tears of the kingdom?
Forgetting that ascend exists for the longest time is so relatable…
I play with my six year old son, and he would watch me do pro level breath of the wild parkour to try to make my way up a cliff and when I fall he just looks at me and says “why don’t you just use ascend?”
I would love another chat like this after you've all finished the main story. I found the ending to be so amazing, and I would love to hear more perspectives.
The one thing I will say about the Sage's abilities is that they are closer to traditional Zelda dungeon "items." In that they give Link a new gameplay ability that is used to progress in that dungeon. The Champion abilities in BOTW were just passive abilities that made Link stronger. So I kind of feel like they're on the right track in terms of bringing back some classic Zelda dungeon elements. I don't think we're getting dungeon items, but this is close and could be really great with another iteration and refinement.
130 hours in. I think I'm ready to go to Hyrule castle and finally pursue Ganon. I've been having so much fun and been putting off the final chapter. Exploring the depths picking up armor sets etc. I am really enjoying the music as well. Labyrinth music 🎵 is 🔥
Being able to just create elemental weapons makes traversal easier simply because now weather is less of an issue
Cold seems less intense, and all of Death Mountain is safe
I love love LOVE these group chat/podcasts! Seems like you used to do weekly group chats. Please keep them up!
A thing that I found pretty disappointing about the Depths is the enemies (and I’m surprised that more people haven’t talked about this) but where are the skulltulas?? Surely it would have been the perfect area to include some crazy enemies that weren’t included in BOTW like actual Poes(rather than the collectibles) Redeads (expanding on the Gibdos) - things that would actually be underground aside from Froxes. But it’s like instead we just got reskinned Bokoblins etc that are almost exactly the same as they are in the over world. I really feel like the Depths would have been so much more fun to explore if it was a completely different environment enemy wise rather than just…more …bokoblins.
I know that the ‘giant spider’ is kind of overused in adventure games but it just feels like such a missed opportunity to truly expand the enemy diversity in the game. Its just a thing that was constantly at the back of my mind while playing through the depths and I can’t help but think that it could have been so much cooler and imaginative…like snakes, ghosts, worms, weird almost alien like life forms that just live in complete darkness, the possibilities could have been endless.
Very true. Very disappointed the Depths is just Bokoblin and Yiga camps--aside from the little frog enemies and mini bosses I can't remember the names of.
Yeah the depths got kind of boring after the novelty wore off and you start to realize it’s mostly a lesser version of the overworld (almost no regional variation, no caves, no day/night/weather variations, few unique enemies, few npc:s/side-quests). I would’ve preferred if it was smaller in area but more dense with interesting content
@@cyber-cf1feand how do those add to the enemy variety at all?
@@Coffeenautonce you get the clue to just follow the ruined areas in the depths it is quite a chore. Cause everything in between is just a point of interest to gather more arrows or stones. Even my first time accounting a poe statue was cool as fuck until you realise there directly above the springs above so then it just becomes another boring elements. Like I get it’s meant to be mirrored but why isn’t there camps or a species directly above towns. Why not create a small sect of redead hylian/shiekah creatures that live below . Maybe trying to resdurface and wreck havoc above
Maybe it's because I didnt play BotW in like 3 years but I had almost no memory of where everything is in Hyrule. Even the fact that I approached most of the areas from a new angle, it all felt new to me. I focused on all the side quests so exploration went really smoothly as I was always working towards something significant. The only thing I'd like to see improved is more unlockables such as unique weapons. We should also have more reasons to use all the powerful stuff. Give me more enemies and extra strong bosses that would put those items to full use.
I didn’t play it in 6 years and still new every little angle of the overworld. How many hours did you play BotW?
@@seacher90I’m in the same boat as the dude above. I had 190 in botw (155 in totk), but like old areas besides the fact that I knew the main areas/how the map was divided and where things where everything else felt completely new in a weird way
@@ritzboo9490 I wish I could forget that easily
@@seacher90 I played for like 150 hours and never went back to it. I pretty much have it all memorized so another playthrough would probably be much less surprising now.
Mind you, I remember all the landmarks but there's just too much stuff in between to make a proper mental map of it during one run.
Pro tip, whistle to corral your sages. I never use them either though, I have a lot of habits from botw so I tend to ignore quite a few mechanics that would make life easier. I'm just about 800 koroks seeds shy of 100% completion.
I have tried that before and it doesn't seem to do anything
Pro tip: Turn them off and use Zonai devices instead (canon on spear, hoverbike, bomb arrows, vehicles)
I'm at 115 hours, just finished my 3rd temple - the Fire Temple. Got 27 hearts and 2.4 stamina wheels. Safe to say I really really love this one. The sheer amount of content in this is absolutely staggering. And I'm fairly sure there's a 5th sage too (mineru?) based on the rings on Link's new hand, so only being like halfway through the story is insane to me
My issues:
Post Dungeon cutscenes are too repetitive
Sky Islands are good but too sparse
Overworld isn’t expanded 😢
Phantom Ganon is overused (good enemy but diminishes the boss fight)
Great game 9/10
Agree so much on the first point. I get players are never gonna see the same dungeon first, so it's a better idea to put the imprisoning war history cutscene at the end of all of them, but the same cutscene over and over is so boring... I still couldn't bring myself to skip them with how scarce cutscenes tend to be in the game.
While the gloom hands are a cool enemy, I found myself just skipping every possible fight because they just drop these chunks for miasma resistance and thats just not worth breaking all my weapons for. While the guardians in BotW at least gave you good loot you can use for armor, the gloom hands and phantom ganon took wayy to long, ate way too many of my weapons and didnt give me back anything valueable in return :/
@@IAmNotASandwich453 Yes because they're meant to be a menacing, terrifying entity that fills you with dread in every sense. However: exploration and Wit is key in Zelda. Yes, in the worst case you _can_ always Teleport away (no ones' putting a Bravery Meter on your head lol) *but* in pays to be aware and keep your senses about you: when you see One emerging - run to the nearest Tree or normal building structure, climb it & wait and they should Dissipate.
That first point hits hard. They were all just the same but kind of added nothing? I assumed that the cutscenes would all be different for each dungeon but they were kind of pointless after one
@@georgeashley6643 Hmm, I dunno about that really; putting the IW lore 'later'. I feel Tears' 'hectic' and 'hodgepodge' nature sort of suits it. I really didn't want another 'squeaky clean' minimalist game like Breath to grace the Zelda series ever again really and was really fearing Tears would also be too 'polite'. Breath was a great -tech demo- ahem 'Game' but a very poor Zelda game. I don't mind if a game isn't ''cohesive'' and seems a little tossed together. So thank Goodness Tears turned out totally different, if only sharing Breath's overworld obviously.
I was starting to fall into the trap I fell in with Horizon Zero Dawn, which was spending entirely too much time just wandering aimlessly and levelling up, getting stronger, exploring the entire map - all while ignoring the story. So, by the time it came time to pursue the story, I was quite simply uninterested in and bored with the gameplay loop.
I didn't have the same problem with Breath of the Wild, as I was voraciously pursuing those story beats while getting lost here and there along the way. But I've decided to take that more focused approach with Tears of the Kingdom, and I'm enjoying it so, so much more. What an amazing game.
Same, biggest way to kill this game because there's waaaaaay more to do here!! So it all feels useless!
I did that in HZD too, after the first 5 hours or so, I was significantly overleveled for everything 😂. Kinda took the fun out of it
Zeon's description of how he starts working on one thing with the expectation that he'll end at a certain time but gets sucked into something completely different and wants to keep going is my favorite part of this game. It's nearly impossible to go into this game with a goal because the side quests are so damn good!
I have 160 hours in the game and I just got to the second temple. None of those hours have felt like padding, it’s genuinely incredible. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface.
Have you made it to the third temple yet? 😂
Anyway, I hope you’re having fun and still enjoying this game! It’s definetely nice to take your time and enjoy it.
I agree, there is a specialness that BOTW possesses, even if TOTK is superior in terms of gameplay
? Hm, well that just doesn't make sense to me. I mean look: for what Breath did in proving what the Switch can do, and laying the Technical foundations for Tears - I cannot deny it's _importance._ But Tears is simply the _actual_ Zelda game, the flesh on the bones. Plot, Dungeons, 2 more _seamless gameplay_ layers. I mean, those who somehow love Breath's undeniable minimalism and erm , 'lack of things': that's their opinion. But I simply found 0 fun in Botw past the Zora area.
@@netweed09 That's the thing, we may know TOTK is superior, to me it doesn't change that BOTW and all its novelty justified coming back for almost 6 years, while TOTK felt too familiar too often, and like I was done with it "just" after 200 hours. There is value in minimalism and not every game can be a first of its kind, but as long as we take this sequel for what it is this is fine. Similarly plot is more ambitious but what's really developed isn't much more substantial than BOTW, and the delivery is clumsy. They're still figuring out progression with non linearity, my playthrough suffered from it a bit. Temples are a hybrid between Divine Beasts and more traditional dungeons, the theming is here, but the complexity and uniqueness of challenges not really. The depths are amazing to figure out in darkness, but it quickly gets much more repetitive than the surface. The skies are the biggest let down IMO, for all the marketing and potential 10 years after SS already failed to deliver a proper sky world. So yes, tons of cool things that makes it the bigger experience, but to some of us the simpler approach still resonated better. Tho it's still early and we'll see about DLC, but I think there's a fundamental difference by design.
@@netweed09 The thing is the Regional Phenomena had basically no stakes, that's why I prefer BotW's overall plot. I really like the whole plotline around the memories in TotK, but as to the immediate issues it's hard to care about them, when most of the races don't seem that fussed, especially the Goron and Rito.
@@NuiYabuko I mean, as your opinion that's fine though I obviously disagree with the Phenomena having no incentive etc. An active zombie army invading the Gerudos totally had me motivated whereas in Breath it was basically 'regain control of Sheikah contraption' and done. Any lore was welcome too; Tears could have done better still but honestly after my experience (or lack of it!) in Botw, I can hardly complain.
@@netweed09building is for Minecraft, not Zelda. This ain’t no Zelda game. This is appealing to the Minecraft generation of kids you may not realize it now but they will completely stray away from what Zelda is and ruin the series if they continue down this route. 20 hours played and I’ve already put this garbage down. Going back to botw.
In my opinion, what makes TotK so great is how it expands upon the foundation of BotW. So, when people complain and say its the same game again, it frustrates me more than any other complaint because it degrades one of the most impressive aspects of the game.
This! This so much!
Thank you!
But it feels like the same game to me when playing. Its cool they added in sky islands and the depths but they are boring after spending a little bit of time in each. Everything else feels the same. The combat is the exact same, cooking is the exact same, the dungeons are maybe slightly better but still bad, exploring the open world is still full of repetitive korok seeds and shrines.
Jesus Christ! Finally someone said the truth! Thanks for that!
Having the same foundation is one thing. Reusing so much of the world, engine, map, enemies, character assets and even music, for one of the longest development time periods, is another.
I playing this game a lot in these days, absolutley love it
I'm definitely up for a 3-hour Nintendolife Zelda discussion. 👀
I’m also in the 250 hour club. Extraordinary experience. Mind you this is a single playthrough.
Honestly my biggest complaint is that the Sages turn unto dumb looking ghosts and they don't just come with you haha.
I would straight up murder Yunobo if I had to put up with him jumping on every vehicle I ever made while shouting, "I can do it!" The ghosts are a small price to pay for muting that guy. 🙂
I wish their abilities were set to a specific button push instead of trying to get next to them in a battle to use them. Also, the water ability is straight up useless. The sages from BOTW were way more useful
For me Tulin was always useful (except for blowing items off a cliff), but the others I deactivated unless I needed them
No other game I would put in 500 hours into this game and is my favorite game of all time
TotK didnt come close to hitting as hard in almost any aspect as Breath of the Wild which is still my favorite game. Overall pretty disappointed with Tears.. was not what i expected
For every improvement and interesting idea it has, it also could've gone so much further with them.
I much prefer TotK because it is an objectively better game and I enjoy the world feels so much more real and lived it. However, nothing will ever replace that feeling the first time you run out of the shrine of resurrection and see the world laid out before you in botw. That was one of those gaming moments that doesn’t leave you
That’s the thing there’s no special moments in tears of the kingdom like that because you’ve already experienced them in breath of the wild
@@Alexandra-ng1ih discovering the depths for the first time is definitely special moment imo
Objectively better isn't a thing.
Wdym objectively better? I love totk, but imo botw still handled some things better.
@@NuiYabuko Ofcourse it is, some things are just better than others regardless of opinions. For example JAWS is objectively a much better movie than JAWS 3 😂
How do you miss a bargainer statue after 100+ hours? You find one and you can find them all...
13:00 the B-role footage is perfect. Thanks for including it! 😂
I really hate the sages just being ghostly blue apparitions when they accompany you. They should just be travel companions helping Link out in all their actual colored glory. It also makes no sense. They could just teleport away when you enter the vicinity of a city so that you can interact with them as an NPC. And the crazy thing is……..this ALREADY happens, since you can’t bring their spirit form into a city!!!
I agree. I didn't know how to say this but there's someone that agrees now. The sages look drab and lifeless. The static face, the dull blue, it's so depressing. Surely they could have had unique mono colours at the VERY least? I sometimes mistake sages between one another when I'm too focused on something else, which is very common in battle. I tend to focus on playing passive and safe with them around, which would be a bit unfun, but gibdo and keese parts exist... (GIBDO BONE MY BELOVED)
Yeah that and the actual mechanic of using them is just really wonky and weird for Nintendo game. Could have been way better
Sorry but that sounds so much worse to me. I _love_ the fact they're actually _Alive_ but We get to see a Mystical, ethereal form of them almost like a Ghost but you know your pals are safe and just doing their own things and helping their own folk. It also demonstrates the Sheer power they've gained. Having 4 Physical Bodies around you teleporting away would seem a bit ridiculous and look comical. Like some crazy version of the Keystone cops!
I've gone through a bunch of emotions with this game. My first playthrough, I did all the main story, got the master sword, all memories, a bunch of side quests (but not all of them) and around 130 shrines. I loved the game. Then I checked out some online reviews and saw that a lot of them were negative. It pointed out to me all of the flaws of this game and I stopped playing it for around a week or two. Then, I started a "No paraglider" run. And all of my first feelings came rushing back. I forgot how darn fun this game really is. I'm still doing my No paraglider run of the game and I'm still enjoying it. I've also attained some kind of peace with it. Yes, the depths and sky islands feel like they could've been fleshed out more. But the game is just fun, man!
All that to say, I think TotK and BotW are both strong at different things. BotW has a certain magic that I can't put into words. Looking out from the cliff on the great plateau fills me with such a sense of wonder that I can't even describe. Its atmosphere is so intriguing. TotK focuses more on the story and physics / abilities specifically. TotK has really interesting puzzles, abilities, and a story that keeps your attention until the very end (at least the very end of the memories). And while the opening jump on the great sky island shrine of resurrection 2 down to the sky island proper is cool, it doesn't compare to the great plateau opening view. Both of these focuses are fun. Both games are amazing. We don't need to compare them, and even if we do, in my eyes, they are equal.
If you read all of this comment, thank you. I know it got a little ranty.
Edit: adding more sentences
This game is too good. I don't not know how Nintendo will top it. 100+ hours and still going. Primary focus has been on the main story, sky and depths. There is still so much to do on the surface and I have not dabbled much in zonai crafting. I would like to get back in to BOTW at the some point but I am too used the the world travelling methods in TOTK. My recommendation for anyone starting out is to skip the geoglyphs quests. On my first run I just focused on the Purah/Josha main quests and end game. Sure you only get the basic ending but the story was so much more impactful as it progressed without already having the background data from Zelda's journey.
I can immediately think of 50 things Nintendo could do to improve it. Was there really nothing you didn’t enjoy? Like the dungeons? The copy paste Sky islands? The way the story was told? The cutscenes after the dungeon? The sameness of the underground?
@@seacher90i loved the dungeons and the story but i do agree with your other points. For me, the lows of this game can't really overshadow the highs of it, so i still love the game despite these flaws!
@@seacher90 I actually enjoyed the new dungeons and the build up getting to them. The one thing I would have liked to have seen is underwater exploration. That is the only thing that has been missing from BOTW/TOTK. The Zora's kingdom should ideally extend underwater for aquatic people. Even when I think back to Vah Ruta, should an elephant divine beast represent the Zora? Why not a whale design with underwater elements for traversal?
The underground was not too appealing at first but it grew on me. It reminds me of LTTP with the relationship between the light/dark worlds. It also reminds me of the upside down from Stranger Things where things are actually inverse of what appears on the surface. The depths is where a huge portion of play has been spent uncovering all the light seeds. The only thing missing from the depths is background story. The Yiga clan were more of fill in for the depths but DLC might be able to give us more on the Zonai race.
The sky islands did look underwhelming at first but I actually appreciated that they did not over saturate the skies with islands. Where there is not much of interest in the skies/depths, I switch to gathering resources and compendium building until I come across something of interest like Yiga camp raids/monster ore camp raids/Koroks/Bosses/Flux constructs/Gleeocks/shrines.
The surface is always the last area I start to explore extensively in my play throughs and I still have not explored it as much as I have the skies and depths. I feel this is a side effect or feeling I have already seen it from BOTW so I feel more pulled to the newer areas. I have been impressed with the little I have seen on the surface but I suppose there could be a lot more story focus there.
The Sheikah influence has been largely removed from the story to focus on the Zonai but I feel the Yiga tie in better with the Sheikah than they do with Ganondorf and his dark forces.
390 hours into the game I have done about everything I wanted to do. I can only hope there will be DLC to enjoy more quests and things
390 is all ? I have 1556 in BOTW, and I am at 566 in TotK.
@@tehcy7430 how many times did you play botw lmao
@@tehcy7430 how? I played through it 3 times and nearly 100% master mode and have like 310 hours
Damn! I feel like I’ve played for a lifetime now and you have 200 more hours than I do. I got all the shrines and a crazy amount of outfits, I’m having trouble finding any new caves anymore, lately I’ve been looking at the heroes path mode to specifically seek out areas I went around or over. There’s probably a ton of side quests that I still haven’t found though.
@@TheLegendofGumby Trying to complete most things will easily double your playtime. I did all challenges, which were really fun, and collected all armor pieces. After 400 korok seeds I felt it was enough of that though.
ToTK raises the bar for games in general and it's no wonder it takes many years to make even with a huge talented team!
I disagree, it’s very very outdated
It’s a decent game but it’s not an amazing game
Rdr2 was waaayy better in every way possible and that’s just one example
@@waterforgizmo3232 outdated graphic? yes definitely, rdr2 1000x much better than totk. outdated gameplay? arguable, have many similarity with botw and clearly totk inspired by rdr2. outdated experience? personally I would say no, I love rdr2 too but the feeling of explorations and possibility of creativity in totk is just insane. The flexibility to do anything and make anything, there's no wrong way to answer puzzle and fuse ability especially is crazy (this will make many game developer cry just thinking about debugging this feature if want to copy, lol)
@@waterforgizmo3232red dead is so boring
@@waterforgizmo3232I can agree that the story is better and the detail but everything else is assssssssss
@@paulmoreaux9828 That's such a weird comparison? Elden Ring is open world dark souls, TotK is a physics-based puzzle game. They're nothing alike.
I am now in 275+ hours in, done the final boss, all the shrines, lightroots, 400+ koroks. Now still playing daily to finish the remaining sidequests/adventures, wells, caves, treasures, costumes, koroks, monster hunting, recipes, etc. I did have 1 crash so far - it was when i tried to jump in the chasm along with Farosh that was going down the depths in the same chasm... I like both BoTW and ToTK. BoTW is more chill than ToTK but ToTK has more "action" to do.
As for the sages, I usu have 3 of the 5 always on. These 3 doesnt bother me much and sometimes they will help me kill keep the enemies busy while I busy collecting drops XD.
I’m STILL friggin playing this game. It’s overwhelmingly incredible.
If you do another discussion, include more spoilers
I currently have 255+ hours for the game and i still have not explored an entire region of the game! I'm LOVING this game! It is absolutely incredible.
Travel the depths on top of a Dragon, and it will completely change your perception of it. It's a staggering thing.
I did this when I noticed one flying through a tunnel to the depths. Wasn't sure if I could land on its back and mind was blown getting to travel through it in this way.
Crazy that it could be 2030 by the time the next big mainline non remaster/remake Zelda game comes out.
Would love to have fishing with (online?) leaderboard for biggest fish.
Would also like the ability to view/rotate Link and his weapons full screen, as the view is obscured significantly by his inventory currently.
On a similar note, would be good to be able to view your finds in the Compendium full screen as well.
Fave items for me dazzle/muddle fruit and smoke shroom. Dazzles are like flash grenades. The only criticism is those items are overpowered as not all the enemies have a counter to them and you can spam them with no diminishing returns.
For the sages Tulin is my number 1. His sharpshooting has alerted me to enemies creeping up on me numerous times in the depths and I love his wind gust for short paragliding bursts and a boosted started to shield skateboarding. Riju is good for stunning enemies and stripping armoured foes but I use her more for farming huge ore deposits. The others have their uses but Tulin/Riju are the main sage abilities that I use a lot.
I'm about 180 hours in. A couple of shrines left + completing underground and upgrading some stuff. Then only the final boss is left.
I like Tears, but acutally prefer Breath of the Wild.
Some criticism I have:
- Damage scaling is sometimes ridiculous
- The map should have an option to deactivate individual symbols. Would be much easier to keep track of certain stuff
- A kind of quick menu for armor sets would really make a difference. Like, something similar to what is present in Bloodstained
- Using sage abilities effectively is not great. Running to them during a fight is rough and wonky
- A ring menu with categories for fusable items would also be really nice
So glad u said about Sage abilities. I love this game so much more than BOTW (mainly due to refinement, all shrines feel fun vs respective, story is awesome vs feels there for sake of it, the 3 layers etc everything) but sage abilities and also memories. Due to being open world I understand but unless u don’t collect memories in an order it spoils the story a bit (not majorly) but this is most I’ve ever got into a Zelda story
The surface in BotW felt to me just like the depths feel in TotK. this says to me they're going to expand it.
in "Light of the Future" (my personal Zelda 3 title) I want to see the depths flooded and built out like the surface was built out, the sky islands fallen to earth, a fight with demise, and an expansion to the seas (and marine terrain) around hyrule.
Yeah Kass has 5 children and now Nintendo made him an ABSENTEE FATHER
Its a very addictive game that I put over 350 hours into. Botw is still more special because it was the first open world zelda and everything was new. The story is more interesting than botw. The sky and the depths are dissapointing, especially the sky with how much nintendo marketed it. Its a expanded botw which is one of my favorite games of all time so I still had a great time with it.
While you aren’t wrong in saying it, technically the first Zelda game was open world. It just didn’t feel like it because of the limitations.
Had a bunch of fun and loved the main new characters as well as how the story cutscenes and Link's dynamic was between him and Zelda, as well as a bunch of other important characters. I enjoyed what they tried for various of the characters and regions though I wasn't admittedly in love with all of the locations as I was with in the previous game.
Clocked out at 450 hours with all shrines, all gear at max level but I didn't get all shield slots. I found a lot of the menues a bit clunky and wished there wrte better ways to sort items. The fusion gameplay was amusing and the new landmarks plus the sky and underground map made exploration quite fun.
I think the game has again absolute great heights in terms of atmosphete and polish in a lot of places but sadly a bunch of the older problems stayed in the sequel and I kinda hope Nintendo's next Zelda will become a bit more traditional again. This formula is a bit too much senseless RPG grinding.
Currently been homeless since April 6 just got an RV to live in last week but this game has been so relaxing and helps keep my mind of things thank you Nintendo this game was fantastic as was botw
Surprised muddlebuds and puffshrooms didn't get a mention. I also quite like the sages, they serve as a good distraction in battle and can do decent damage once you find some sage's wills. I use Tulin and Yunobo's abilities all the time. I do wish there was an easier way to access them though.
I really enjoy the sage abilities, even more than the champions in botw. I do wish the button to activate them was different as it’s easy to do so on accident while grabbing items
Never finished it, got bored after like 2 weeks and forgot about it. Beat Tunic, The Force Unleashed and Shovel Knight since then. Wish Nintendo would make a real Zelda game again
Pikmin 4 disrespect at the beginning was crazy to me
At around 50 hours into the game I was I would say halfway through the story. I had just finished my second dungeon and the same thing happened to me as in BoTW. I felt like I hit the ceiling of rewards in the game. I knew the numbers would go higher but I didn't feel like anything truely new was around the corner in the side quests. The rewards would be some weapon as good as I had or some material that I already had in my pocket. I lost that desire to go looking for treasure knowing the reward was at best some equipment that I needed to grind to be better than what I already own.
So at that point I just took the beeline to the critical story beats and mashed out the rest of the game to the credits in a final 20 hour jaunt. And at that point I did not once feel that gaining more strength, health, weapons would have better prepared me from that second dungeon with 40 shrines down.
In the end I enjoyed my time, but I definitely was checking out til the end. But the spirits are clunky, noisy, and get in the way and the depths are just tedious with the darkness and health mechanics.
Brightbloom seeds was the first item I maxed out (the second was Bokoblin fangs, the third was arrows)
What you mean by max out? Like 999? But you use the seeds right so what is the point of maxing out items?
I spent 145 hours on zelda twilight princess(gc), most hours just lazy fishing or enjoying the views 😊
Really liked it, but I didn't love it. BOTW still would be what I would go back to more, I think.
I personally love how Links new abilities do not have a cool down on them, allows for far more freedom. I wasn't a big fan of BoTW because of the weapon degrading, and the enemies just felt like damage sponges. ToTK did a lot to fix that but monster enemies still feel like a waste of resources now that common weapons have decreased durability. The new bosses and temples is what made me a fan. Gleeoks and Molduga's are always a blast to fight.
Honestly, I finally gave in and just use all of my weapons as disposable, no matter how strong. It doesn't matter if they break because I can get like 5 strong monster parts that I can fuse to a stick or club. I cannot get rid faster of weapon than I can create them. Just yeet those weapons for critical damage, you can just fuse more to sticks.
@@niedas3426 I kind of do that, the silver enemies to me are past the point of diminishing returns and I avoid them. I much rather spend the weapons on a Gleeok or other boss.
PLEASE DO ANOTHER CHAT!! It’s been a pleasure listening to you guys talk about this game. My playtime is over 180hrs.
I wish the sages were seperated into the abilities that could be used similarly to champion abilities and toggleable sages to come fight with you.
Only sages that are actually useful are bird boy and flamey and even those are so annoying as they will try to blow up or blow away the stuff I want when I try to pick it up as it’s the same button for those actions.
Speaking of which! Poor Sidon. Most handsome fish in hyrule and about to be officially king of the Zora… complete shit super power!
@@stefansaarm I agree with all of that and think it could all be solved by my initial suggestion.
I don't think Nintendo gets enough credit for actually delaying the game until it was ready. I read they could have released it last year, it would have sold just as well, but they waited to fine tune everything to avoid a buggy mess, That shows respect not only for the consumer but also for their own brand.
To the point about the Sage's summoned spirits, I do feel that it was a missed opportunity to have them tell you "I AM WITH YOU", then give you a hollow vessel of them. I wouldn't feel that way if they were actually doing something of use while you're out saving Hyrule- but they don't...
I finished the game a few weeks ago. I'm now playing Final Fantasy XVI (yes, I play more than just Nintendo games), and had to remind myself that only Tears of the Kingdom has a mechanic for ascending through the ceiling.
Now that they mention it, the muktorok is basically a splatoon character
I totally get the sense of feeling overwhelmed; that feeling sat on my chest for the first month. But after a few hundred hours (I took >2 weeks off to do nothing but play this game), I have to keep reminding myself that thiS will likely serve as my main Zelda fix for the next 5 or 6 years. That sensation of overwhelmed-ness quickly passes.😅
(C’mon, DLC!)
i mean i’ve been working a full time job and still getting at 200…so maybe it’s just not meant to be sat and ate for weeks at a time uninterrupted. if you want chock full of content like that i’d suggest WoW which never really ends haha
I love hearing you three chat about totk !!!
The nagging feeling that I would’ve preferred a new map never really went away for me sadly (I’ve played 100+ hours and completed most of the main things). The depths has much less variation than the overworld, and the sky islands were much fewer than I expected. It’s still a great game of course, and in general I think this is a golden age for Zelda
💯 this. Exploring a new world is the best part of every Zelda game. And TotK just did not deliver, and the Depths/Sky islands didn't make up for that due to their lower quality and repetitiveness
Yeah problem with the Depths is it's built on the BotW style exploration, but without rewarding the player with the discovery of setting details that reveal more story.
In fact that was a bigger problem with TotK in general.
Players seem to think "more dialogue + cutscenes = more story".
This is untrue. Breath of the Wild revealed layers of story the more you explored. There are very little story details embedded in TotK's landscape, aside from "suddenly islands" and "suddenly holes."
Discovering Fort Hateno in Breath of the Wild, simply examining the Legion of guardians frozen in different stages of advance, is a better battle scene than any cutscene in Tears of the Kingdom.
Not only is BotW's story more intense, it also benefits from a truly artful presentation.
@@lucasstrople4767Love this comment. BotW had masterful environmental storytelling. TotK is severely lacking in this area, and I don't think its aimless narrative is nearly good enough to compensate.
Overall, I think TotK is an excellent game. Exploring Hyrule again after BotW does feel fresh. I'm not too big on building things, but I love seeing what other people have come up with. I appreciate that the temples or dungeons in this game have their own feel and vibe compared to how similar the divine beasts felt. As far as the sages go, I like Tulin. He frequently gets in head shots with his bow, and his gust is useful when traveling among the sky islands. His ability also comes in handy for what I call freeze and breeze. Freeze a bunch of enemies then use Tulin's ability to push them off a cliff or into water. While Yunobo has the annoying catch phrase, his ability is useful when exploring caves. Riju's ability is useful fighting the larger enemies. I will say I don't have much of use for Sidon's ability. I do like pull out the sage avatars when fighting large groups of enemies. My main critique is how the story is interwoven into the world. Since it is open ended, you have no control over where people will go or discover. Therefore, players can find things out of order and yet there is a "recommended order" for doing things such as the memories and tracking down the master sword. Be prepared to hear about the imprisioning war a lot. I wish there was some way for the game to recognize that players had already done one temple. They don't need all the details again, or give some different details with each telling so it doesn't become redundant.
For DLC, my idea is for Link to be the seventh sage. Many past games had a seventh sage. Since Link's already has Rauru's arm, he can have some quests to officially be the new sage of Light. Even Zelda calls Link the light, our light in the very beginning of BotW. Regardless, I think a seventh sage is something to explore.
I’m at 195 hours in and I’ve finished the main story. I really enjoyed it and I felt that particularly the side quests and npc’s were improved from Botw. I think I was a bit disappointed that the story is a bit too similar to Botw and that there isn’t more voice acting particularly in some of the cut scenes after completing dungeons - they do a little bit and then I find the switch back to just text mid way through a scene very jarring. But I do love the game and I’ll continue to play both this and Botw for a long while yet!
Finally Nintendo Life.
Took you all long enough. I’ve been waiting on your full out review for ‘Tears Of The Kingdom’ for ages now.
I see a lot of people complaining about the Sage avatar abilities but I actually really like them. Especially Tulin’s ability where he can head shot an enemy like nobody’s business. Honestly, it’s thanks to him I’ve took out half of the Savage Lynels that I have already in the game. And his wind gust ability is useful depending on how you’re using it. No, it’s not as good as Revali’s Gale but it’s still not awful. Come on now. And Yunobo’s ability comes in really handy when you haven’t got a rock based weapon to smash rock walls and ores with. Not to mention create a quick updraft through the grass to get in a few Bullet Time shots. Riju’s ability is very useful for making enemies drop all of their weapons at once when you’re surrounded so you can quickly go steal them off them. The least useful ability is Sidon’s because whatever would you need a water shield for any way? But again - there’s ways of using it as a utility tool. And I still think it’s better that you get to travel around with the Sage avatars than just be completely alone in your journey. The whole point is the team work of the community.
I haven't done it but I saw you can Whistle and the sages will come to you, I'm not sure if it will make them any less clunky or not... I keep Tulin on most of the time for gliding distance, and I save bomb flowers by destroying walls with the Goron guy... the rest of them are pretty useless other than specific battle settings
I'm about to hit 200 hours... spending the last days mostly in the depths.. and only covered the middle and south, and south west. So still lots to clear. I'm against cheating so I get my supplies manually. I do kinda repeat a lot of stuff like I've been getting picky to eat (in game) and just when down to one heart I'll go back to the Shrine of Resurrection to heal lol. I've found a lot of stuff (and very OP) but refused to head to any skyview tower still except one (so only two in total). Trying to clear all caves and Korok seeds as I go. And so story wise I'm still basically in the beginning. Don't think I have to tell you how I think of the game by now, but yeah I should get a move on in the story.
For a newcomer to the franchise, ToTK was overwhelming. So many mechanics that take hours of grinding and insufficient tutorials make them confusing, difficult and downright frustrating. BotW was much easier for its simplicity but what I hate about both is the non-linearity. Both are so vague in their approach and while I’m sure many love that kind of freedom, for me it just makes the games harder and sad when I have to constantly pull out Google for guidance. Don’t get me wrong, these games are EXCEPTIONAL. But the gameplay is not always straightforward or clear and it’s a shame because the mechanics have incredible potential but are hard to implement without proper guidance and they are not easy to gain either.
I will love a DLC where we get to play as Zelda on her side of the story.
Nintendo doesn’t do decent dlcs
I have not played a Zelda game since Majora's Mask and ToTK was an amazing step forward. Link is more capable and able to adventure than most main protagonists you get to control. He can climb and jump over things that you know normal people can in real life and it's not just a "Crate" or knee high wall your character can't cross. The story was a real story unlike the Zelda games I played in the 80's as a kid where it was just "good luck" hope you find a dungeon or something. The Ultra Hand, Recall, and Ascend abilities are super useful. The Sage's abilities do have bad inputs. Like Riju's should come up as a prompt in bullet time, Sidon's shield can be a prompt while blocking and don't start me on Minaru, why give me a parry to just give me breathing room? Combat is simple but you can step it up if you get into advanced mechanics like Shield Block Resets and boomerang orbits, Rocket shield up while dropping bomb flowers all the way up. I enjoy the direction Zelda went.
Are any of you guys still playing Tears of the Kingdom? I stopped playing for a few months after playing 125 hours and then getting overloaded on other games. Came back to playing it a few weeks ago and now am well over 200 hours and it still has this magical feeling. I get home from work and sit down and just get absorbed into the world and before I know it I am bargaining with myself that 3AM isn’t THAT late before I eventually fall asleep close to 4AM. It’s not sustainable but man I am really enjoying it right now. All day at work I find myself thinking about coming home to play more. It’s such a pleasant world to spend time in, so calming and I has so many remarkable satisfying mechanics. I hope Zelda continues in this style going forward. I can’t even imagine how long and how many delays it will take to top TotK. I would imagine it’s still another 6+ years out. There is a thread of people who are really calling for the past 3D games that are more contained and that have specific paths and puzzle solutions with room keys and key item dungeons but I really do not want to go back that direction. I’d be happy if they had a smaller project that was more like traditional Zelda but I think the size of the world we are in now and all the things you can do make for a game that outlasts the launch and the trend and keeps people talking and discovering new things decades in. I have gone back to Zelda on NES and had to use a guide to beat it a few years ago on 3DS but it’s not a game I feel I’m going back to discover anything new in. There is only so much people can talk about and remember and fit into one conversation. I’ve listened to dozens upon dozens of hours of TotK (and BotW) conversations and still find myself discovering new things in the game. Still, despite the size of Breath of the Wild I think it will be quite a while before I go back to it. The glow of TotK is still too great for me to go back. TotK feels like the best weekend ever and BotW feels like a laid back day off or a slow Sunday.
I really am enjoying this. I also keep finding myself getting sidetracked 😂.
I think BOTW has better replay value, start from 0 and progress become better than your last save data.
While TOTK is good, but sometimes you will feel too lazy to start from 0 again, since you have to get all the build skills and tools (zonai) again.
Both are great! recommended to play.
I love the korok that has a piece of sky island fall on it!
This is ridiculous, there’s been over two months since the release of this game… I don’t understand why we’re not having a spoiler talk at this point. It’s baffling to me they don’t even say the sages names.
I feel bad for anyone who did memories before regional phenomena because they really feel like they were meant to be after
Really wish you would make this sort of reflection videos available in poscast form!
I wasn't enjoying BotW much until spending a long time overcoming climbing navigation and combat. TotK makes all of these aspects more fun and approachable. I started having fun almost right after getting ultrahand. It adds in more story scenes, multiple realms to explore, real bosses, and far more options to help in almost every situation you are struggling with.
After beating the game, I can say i prefer TOTK to BOTW. Not saying i didn't like BOTW but i just prefer the gameplay and feel of Hyrule in this game. There is just something about Hyrule feeling lived in and on an upswing rebuilding. Also i think I may be in the minority but i enjoy the ghost sages. It kind of fun having a group with you as you go throughout the game (except the final sage, that was the only one i didn't like).
It's looking like it's going to take me around 800 hours. Which is about right, since BOTW took me 280.
Botw had so many firsts for me but with all the same environment, the sequel was not a first experience. It was very good but there's nothing like sailing off the plateau for the first time or watching a fox run around.
I think it was a mistake to take the same overworld, because you can't go: "I wonder what's across the sea?... " you know what's there, it's eventide island and I know it's complete layout!
Yhea everything you do there is new, but the discovery aspect is kinda gone. (And stumbling through the dark does F-all for me, sorry!! )
I had the gathering and shrine fatique as well. Especially with caves all being the same. I used a dupe glitch, mined a bunch of zonaite stones, and am now having the time of my life fumbling about and breaking the game with builds when I feel like it!
But wow is the main story better!! The memories, I wish they did a spoiler discussion about that!
The dungeons, they're so much better to me! There's so much more atmosphere!!
The post main dungeon stuff, it's so story driven and just fun and cool!
The bosses...So unique, cool and fun to fight!!
It's all so good! So I think a replay in about 5 years is going to make the game even more fun!
I haven't played the Gerudo dungeon yet, but I much prefer BotW's divine beasts so far. TotK's dungeon music is really cool, though.
@@quibquiberton4184 I feel it's a divine beast with an elemental coat of paint. But yhea, loved the beasts as well! (But they were so short! :O )
I can actually pinpoint why I myself like BOTW better so far: the ultrahand mechanics in TOTK are overused, and the controls are clunky enough for it to be annoying. I didn't feel that way about anything in BOTW.
Been playing for 120 hours and i only have 3 hearts and 3 temple completed. I want to go to zoras domain but theres so much to do i just got to Tarrey town and plenty of distractions there too.
I hit 999 Bright Bloom Seeds a few weeks ago and had to sell off half of them 😂
The thing about this game is it has so many flaws but is still so much better than 95% of games on the market
I absolutely adore it, I I wish I could go back to May 12th
It was nice to get a big dlc package for botw. The totk expansion is pretty cool, I just don’t understand why it took six years because it’s basically just a few new elements. The sky and underground feel like they were made by an algorithm in an afternoon. The “dungeons” were an absolute disappointment. Hit five switches with your champion buddy and watch the same cut scene over and over, cool what a challenge.
The dedication!!!😮
Been playing Zelda since ocarina of time so didn’t love the open world style to begin with. However totk made me appreciate it more , it’s a much more polished and complete experience compared to botw. Im literally spending most my hours doing side quests and killing lynels 😂 and it’s so fun!
OoT and Majoras and a link to the past are still my fav 3 Zelda games of all time.
I definitely want another chat between you 3 once you get to 200 or 300 hours, specifically with spoilers. I’ll work hard to catch up with you guys. 😅❤
Id like to hear more in depth conversations about each persons top DLC theories.
I looooved exploring the depths, right until the very last Lightroot. For the DLC I just want lots of new materials to fuse, give me that and I’ll be happy.
Do another talk ar 250 hours for sure! So much you didn't even touch on! This is my first Zelda game and it makes me want to go back into older games
i think im close to 100 hours, all set up for beating ganondorf but there's still so much fun things to do !
Do a spoiler chat! That would be so fun
