    I can handle probably most of the song pretty easily, but I'm a total noob when it comes to slide (just picked one up today). I hear some people say you got to set up a guitar properly just for slide--higher action, different gauge strings, etc. Is it okay if I use my normal guitar set-up with a slide pick? I mainly was inspired by this song to try it out.

    • @sonnyrocker
      @sonnyrocker  Před 4 měsíci

      If you are playing slide full time, yes, you will need higher action and heavier strings. But for learning and to play just a part of a song, you can just do it on your regular guitar like I do.

    Ik I’m a little late but how do I get my bend to sound that high at 9:25 ? Everytime I try it just sounds like I’m barely bending at all and doesn’t have that high pitch

    • @sonnyrocker
      @sonnyrocker  Před rokem +1

      That is not bending. It's called pinch harmonic. You have to pick the string with your pick, along with a part of your thumb and pick it hard right at the edge to get that high pitch sound. You can find video lessons on how to do pinch harmonics on CZcams. It's more of a feel thing though. You will get it eventually.

    Hey Sonny, I commented on this video a couple days ago and am struggling with the pinch harmonics. I can really get them when holding the pick between my middle finger and thumb, although I know it's supposed to be done with the forefinger. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

    • @sonnyrocker
      @sonnyrocker  Před 4 měsíci +1

      If you get them with your thumb and middle fingers.. then you have a feel for it. You just have to keep practicing until you feel it between your index and thumb. There is no magic to it.

      @@sonnyrocker Hello again! I bought a slide today, it's chrome-plated solid brass. The store didn't have any other choices. What is yours made of? I'm new to slide, first time I've tried playing with one. I thank you again for explaining all the parts!! :)

    Hi Sonny, I still can't get that pinch harmonic on the low E string on 3rd fret and I've been practicing them using my thumb and forefinger. You do that part so well!! What can you suggest as a practice routine for pinch harmonics? I am forcing myself not to use middle finger when doing these. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :)

    • @sonnyrocker
      @sonnyrocker  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Can you do harmonics on other strings? Try slightly angle your wrist, and move your picking hand closer to the neck pickup, or away from it. Do it a little at a time and see if you find a sweet spot that's easier to pinch

    • @8478als
      @8478als Před 3 měsíci +1

      @sonnyrocker I can get them on other strings higher than 3rd fret. I've been doing it in different areas and different strings; searching for the sweet spot but it's never 100% accurate. More like hit or miss. When you do that harmonic on 3rd fret of low E string, it is perfect! sounds so much a higher pitch that is more often heard on the higher frets. Just wish there was a fool-proof way to get them every time. I appreciate your response!!

      @@sonnyrocker You're very welcome!! I have heard that it helps to use a "hard" pick. I normally use thin picks, but I guess in order to get the harmonic, one must use a thicker pick....and much practice.....are you using a glass slide? I bought one that only came in one size-too big and falls off my finger if pointed to the ground.

    • @sonnyrocker
      @sonnyrocker  Před 3 měsíci

      @8478als I don't think it matters what picks you use. I'm currently using John Petrucci Jazz III picks. They are great. Hard with sharp edges and bigger than the tiny Jazz III picks for better grip. I use a glass slide .
