This episode had better VFX than many 100+ million dollar Hollywood films; amazing job!

HBMHD Aint this series above 100+ or 200+ million budget, The VFX studios Game of Thrones uses are the same top ones used by companies like Warner Bros for movies, the top vfx house that Made Mad Max Fury Road Storm scene is the same working on this series.

I agree totally. The CGI in the Hobbit movies left much to be desired. We might not be in the industry, but, aren't the movies designed for novices?

THE most realistic battle scene ever! I Could physically feel the agony when Snow started being trampled over.

yeah up until this point i don't think anyone quite captured the destabilizing chaos of it all. i would love to work with these guys but i think i would be totally in over my head... which is cool because i thrive in sink or swim situations

      Samesame to both of you.
I'm a combat veteran and that battle, that initial explosion of chaos...that was one of the best I'd ever seen. The fury of it was spot on.
Also totally "liked" that closing shot of this video, where he's fighting that guy who gets hit by a horse and bounced away, and Jon just has tunnel vision and keeps coming after him to finish him off. It's a little thing, but tunnel vision in combat...just struck a chord with me.
Sorry to comment a two week old thread, geeking on VFX videos as I'm a bit of a cg geek.

***** i've been in a lot of riots when i was locked up and it was a lot of the same. thats one of the things about fights like that, they never tell you how quiet it gets. not quiet, really, but i don't know how to describe it, the noise floor starts whooshing in your ears until it fades into the background and all you can hear is silence, everything you do is on impulse, like you're watching someone else inside your body. the adrenaline starts pumping and you don't know what you're doing until you've already done it. all of a sudden you hear people shouting at you and you realize you're on top of someone pounding their face in. And the last few minutes, all of that was a gut reflex, choices you didn't have the time to even think about making.
I actually studied vfx in college though which is one of the reasons i know how impressive this is. I'm still trying to get the knee joints on my singular horse model to work properly and it doesn't even have the same kind of muscle systems they got theirs. Add to that what i assume are soft body collisions, combined with hand animation, motion capture, some kind of blood and cloth simulations for the skin puncturing, motion tracking, compositing. And finding a way to do that all at once, with like 80 different animated characters in a single scene that really should be a damn near impossible task. Most people have to cheat just to do it with 2 characters.

      @B20C0 Před 7 lety

Realistic? No. Good looking? Certainly top 10.
As funny as it may sound, Troy is WAY more realistic regarding battles than GOT but still far away from being accurate. The main flaws with nearly all movie/series depictions of battles is that:
      1) People used spears as primary weapon, not swords (though they had swords as secondary weapon).
      2) People used shields. Always. People would throw away their sword before they would throw away their shield.
      3) Armor was useful in reality. You cannot impale a knight in armor with a sword through the chest, that's why swordfighting was about finding the gaps.

It's not usual to see CGI in tv series that can be compared to the ones in Hollywood movies. This crew made an awesome job. It's perfect. Game of thrones is one of the greatest series of all times.

Great show. These days, it is not easy to tell the real from much of the CGI. I didn't know those were real flames. We know that the dragons are not real, but, the detail and design of them is so outstanding. The Giants, well they're kind of real (there is a real person in makeup). What an excellent show.

I agree. In terms of epic scale and grandeur, Lord of the Rings is battle is great, but this battle has a better atmosphere in terms of close and personal feel of being a soldier in the middle of the fight. The amount of chaos that is happening and the way it was presented is really great.

The Hows and What-fors, without too much techno-babble(which geeks will tear to pieces and offend and insult one another without imaginative insults, and poor spelling and bad grammar, because they do that, too) - a nice taste of detail.
A nice look at the production team without going into Tabloid TV overkill, as well.
