@@Blogverso yesterday, I just did exactly that without any food or water from 8am until 11.30pm. By the time, I had finished, there were no buses and I had to pay £40 for an uber and I was in uni for so long that I had to have an argument with security to not lock the building so I could finish working
Watching this I almost feel bad about how little I had paid attention to some of this stuff. LIke the rebuilding of King's Landing I didn't even notice the change or the construction. The attention to detail and thought that goes into all this is mind blowing.
I felt the same, initially. Of course, I made sure to take more in on my rewatches. But, when you think about it, they made this world so real that we just accept it as reality without scrutiny. If they hadn't spent so much time on all this detail, the viewer would not have such a realistic experience.
Its ok, you're not supposed to "pay attention to detail". You're supposed to be so engrossed in the story & acting and emotions that you lose yourself, or at least that part of your analytical self and just absorb the scenes.
It takes them so many days and hours to select the perfect locations, the details and everything else put together and our eyes do not even see the tiny details that goes into everything they try to build with so much love and care. The actors, scenes, dialogues, costumes, armor/weapons, whole new languages, music, editing, the process, cameras, lighting, shadows, fake snow, injuries, missing childhood, falling sick, feeding them all, schooling the kids, transporting the actors and the crew etc etc and the long list goes on and on. To shoot one scene can take days and that scene can even get deleted. It's mind boggling. We get to watch it in our cozy abodes with a bag of popcorn, not giving a second thought of what they went through to entertain us in an hour!!
pie n chips you seem like you don’t have an idea about what you’re talking at all. Learning 3D software is easy, doing stuff is Hard. The computer doesn’t help you at all with that’s, everything is handmade. Only thing servers do is rendering.
Yeah, as others pointed out, it's the opposite unfortunately. They are paid more than the average worker, sure, but they also work insane amounts of hours and tremendous stress. It's cool to work in the movie industry, for sure, but burnout and health issues are extremely common in the industry. I'm glad I work in other artistic fields, but I have acquaintances in the industry. They totally don't get the money they'd deserve :/
CGI workers are the prototype of the proletariat of the XXI century. The mass of them, those sweating out for the most hard work, not the technical directors, are paid a lot less of the consuming of their lives behind the screens, the rest is the profit for the capitalists. A lot of hours + high productivity = massive profits. Also, they continuously have to adapt to the automation of their work to escape unemployment by robotization of processes; figure in a not so distant future, TD will require (or only imagine in his head) "a monster like godzilla but with more spikes on the arms is walking through the interior of a spaceship like millennium falcon crunching thousands of bugs spreading out from the floors etc etc, " and the Artificial Intelligent agent will render immediately hundreds types of previews human eye cannot distinguish from reality...
OMG. I wandered so much saying "Who is the main character of game of thrones?" and now i realise they are actually behind the scenes. HATS OFF to all the visual artist. You guys are the true legends and the real heros. My dream is to be a visual artist too. Thankyou this was very inspirational.
They burned so many people during the fighting pits in mereen in season 5 or the battle with jaime in season 7, it is awesome xD I think their record is something like 20-25 people being burned at once :D
The amount of people I see in these comments appreciating VFX work is truly wholesome. So often this kind of work goes unnoticed and underappreciated by executives and some amount of the general audience. It thrills me to see the support that a lot of you are giving to the artists on this show, y'all rock :)
I really hate CGI when you see it. That being said, GoT most of the times does a REALLY great job on using it seamlessly. Except for the dragons of course, but that is kinda obvious. When CGI is used to extend or change existing sets it can do so much great stuff and it's really impressive. Especially the crowd shots, buildings/structures and the landscapes are beautiful, great work. And I really appreciate that they avoid CG fire.
It's funny; you watch GoT and you just take for granted all these amazing things that are happening. You see them climbing a giant ice wall and you just accept it. This video was so interesting. It will make me look a little harder at each scene and try and see how they did it.
Blows my mind the awesome way all the talent of these special effects artist make everything so real life . Just wanted to say many thanks for all your hard work folks :D
Even though season 8 story was pretty bad, the VFX and scale in S8 was unmatched. The VFX team really took it to a level that television has never gone before. It was block buster movie quality.
A lot of people complain about the overuse of VFX. When I watch movies I lose myself in the story. When the FX are topnotch it's definitely easier. But even just solid FX can take you places if you let them! GOT are some of the best.
it is interesting to see what they choose to make with cg and what to shoot in the reality. They have literally the ability the produce the whole thing with cg technique but with all kind of considerations they didn’t, the reasons behind really worth thinking twice.
lol I was in the middle of watching a GoT episode which prompted me to look up a YT video about VFX. Didn't realize I was going to find a specific video about GoT though
Thanks for this. what an amazing spell of tv and anyone who overly scrutinizes it needs a hobby. This accomplishment is easssily on par with Lord of the Rings. debate me let's go. let's fight that comment while people worldwide starve. bravo to the crew and cast of Game of Thrones.
It's amazing when they blend their setbuilding with visual effects in such a way that you totally buy it, and don't even consciously think "Oh I'm looking at effects"
+Puya Puya No I agree. Season 5 was the least exciting season of all. I think that's normal, tho. It was a pre-season to prepare season 6's real shit going on. And season 6 is actually going pretty well now !
Paul Jenkins Well now that we've seen all the episodes, I would say season 6 is a mix kind of good and bad episodes. The last two episodes were gold, possibly the best ones we've ever seen so far, episode 5 was incredible too. But episode 8 was seriously the most disappointing episode I've ever EVER watched. The rest was ok but 7 was slow.
but then you would have a dragon statue that looks nothing like a game of throne dragon! really sad they didn't mix real world models and CGI for this, it would have made it a bit better even.
Badly want to to be the part of the team. My dream. Not particular in GoT, but all these kinds of stuff. That is the kind of outfit I want to wear at work. Casual.
Le sigh... I so so soooo miss doing this stuff. But.. my daughter was cuter than the guys I had to coat in latex. But this stuff is so fun to do . Nothing feels so good as figuring out how to do something 3 days ago, you said you could do , but had no clue how it was going to happen.
its not the idea to brag their capacities, intead the intention is to merge with the original footage thing that is achieved (in many cases in darken images (like the war of witerfell in the last episode))
***** they use more than after effects.. NukeX, Fusion, Hiero, Houdini for the compositing.. and 3DSMax, Maya for the 3d.. After effects can work for the simple shots but lacks a true 3D support system, something that NukeX offers.
Ya veo porque se limitan a hacer solamente unos 10 episodios por cada libro, un episodio ha de valer millones, no creo que haya tanto presupuesto para extender la serie a cada detalle como lo relata el libro.
I do admire their dedication to practical special effects. I feel like a lot of CGI movies and TV shows are lazy or overambitious and try to achieve every special effect through CGI. Game of Thrones goes as far as they can with practical effects and it's why the world comes alive.
Thats the kind of detail, I totally miss in the new Seasons (6&7). The Hound grabs an axe to go, hunt the brotherhood? Yeah man, but the axe is just one, we casually bought at the market. We have a scene where all characters meet in Kings Landing? Just use some kind of modern stage with mountings of Iron, which definitely look completely new. Not to speak of the chipboard, that didn't really exist in mediavel times... I think, thats all, because they have to deliver so fast and have to make it all happen in one year to the next season. So, there is no place for details like in this video...
Yeah that was the low point in the CGI, should have probably used an actual robot instead. The dragons are really good for a full CGI model, which is really hard.
visual effects is one of the most underrated artistic jobs out there.
yeah, tell me about it... in one instance I used to work for 14 or 15 hours a day... it was a nightmare...
@@Blogverso yesterday, I just did exactly that without any food or water from 8am until 11.30pm. And underpaid.
Yeah the time to produce alone they are tortured by deadlines.
The biggest accomplishment for the cgi is when nobody talks about the cgi
The first rule of Fight Club is;
We don't talk about Fight Club.
As the guy from rocketJump said "When the CGI is good no one will notice it. When the CGI is bad everyone will notice it".

Someone once said: The best visual effects are those you don't even notice.
Its ok, you're not supposed to "pay attention to detail". You're supposed to be so engrossed in the story & acting and emotions that you lose yourself, or at least that part of your analytical self and just absorb the scenes.
It's so dense, every single image has so many things going on.
Wow even here :D
You know it :)
System509 FUCK YOU RICK BURMAN

My God. The level of intelligence that goes into generating these effects is just mind-blowing. I'm in awe right now.
You know they have best software and computers that makes it a lot easier
pie n chips you seem like you don’t have an idea about what you’re talking at all. Learning 3D software is easy, doing stuff is Hard. The computer doesn’t help you at all with that’s, everything is handmade. Only thing servers do is rendering.
pie n chips yeah you just push a button and it's done ,lol you clearly know nothing, it's just a huge amount of work
Software is just a tool, like clay, you still have to sculpt everything manually, its not automatic.
Normally I'm jelous if some ppl get very well paid, but I hope these guys get paid like presidents, they deserve it.
vfx artists are never well payed
Yeah, as others pointed out, it's the opposite unfortunately. They are paid more than the average worker, sure, but they also work insane amounts of hours and tremendous stress. The president gets paid $1 per year but I get what you mean
tormund was probably my favorite character lol. his obsession with breanne of tarth was hillarious
Yes, loves that too.
When they do those breakdowns of render layers it's absolutely fantastic
OMG. I wandered so much saying "Who is the main character of game of thrones?" and now i realise they are actually behind the scenes. HATS OFF to all the visual artist. You guys are the true legends and the real heros. My dream is to be a visual artist too. Thankyou this was very inspirational.
Riwaj Chalise they're not the main CHARACTERS, but one of the main creators
Shut the fuck up
I hope you are living your dream!
you all are the real heroes of GOT.
Applause for the whole Visual Effects Team! Love, love, love the Dragons!

Look at ygritte's and jon's face at 1:13 LOOOOL
Wow , this is just amazing , they put so much efforts in some scene we may barely noticed when watch the show
Speak for yourself
Holy shit they actually burned someone? LOL
They burned so many people during the fighting pits in mereen in season 5 or the battle with jaime in season 7, it is awesome xD I think their record is something like 20-25 people being burned at once :D
You'd be surprised how many people get burned as a job
my god these people r greater than artists they're magicians! artistic magic unbelievable! beautiful!
"The dragons are the size of swans now, so they're huge...
Haha, best quote...

The visual fx works are amazing!!! Really thought it was a real boat...

+Copacetic That spoils the fun and your experience, caz possibly every frame is post-processed to some extent.
Season 3-4 are seriously my fav seasons lol arya/the hound made me happy as well as ygritte/Jon snow
5:16 Congratulations, You've caught a wild Drapion.

Wow guys amazing job on VFX! Love the books and love the show! Thank You!
Blows my mind the awesome way all the talent of these special effects artist make everything so real life . Just wanted to say many thanks for all your hard work folks :D
So a beautiful serie ! And the CGI team are just so powerfull, if there wasn't here, GOT wouldn't have existed !

I think when it’s painstakingly obvious it’s VFX… people don’t like it. When it looks blended in, natural, people don’t notice it, which is the goal!
nice video!
it is interesting to see what they choose to make with cg and what to shoot in the reality. They have literally the ability the produce the whole thing with cg technique but with all kind of considerations they didn’t, the reasons behind really worth thinking twice.
Respect for the animators
lol I was in the middle of watching a GoT episode which prompted me to look up a YT video about VFX. Didn't realize I was going to find a specific video about GoT though
lol kristofer hivju is just the same as his character in game of thrones..
its alot of hard work🥺

I live their hardwork like HAIL
good jobs
I don't trust anyone any more after I watched this video
11:36 wow I thought this place was mostly real lul good job!
It's amazing when they blend their setbuilding with visual effects in such a way that you totally buy it, and don't even consciously think "Oh I'm looking at effects"
"The dragons are now the size of swans... so they're huge" Boy do they not know whats coming to them
15:41 That looks so cool.
season 3 was the best of all Game of Thrones series. 5 is just......

"First time you seen a man run like he's shit his pants with a giant pole and a red light on it Jon Snow?"
I wonder what sort of program you need to paste video?
I want those dragon statues :)
but then you would have a dragon statue that looks nothing like a game of throne dragon! really sad they didn't mix real world models and CGI for this, it would have made it a bit better even.

is that one dude Sam Crac? Steve Kullback
CG done RIGHT!
From Babylon 5 to this. How visual effects had changed in TV.
The only problem in the visual effects of this show, is that they make it so dark that you can see anything, dkw...
its not the idea to brag their capacities, intead the intention is to merge with the original footage thing that is achieved (in many cases in darken images (like the war of witerfell in the last episode))
1:45 Thats the Game of Thrones i wanna watch.
Game of Chairs
what software used to match camera from real to virtual?
Most of the time, nuke is used to make the tracking but mocha is also used
what subject would i have to study to be able to do this sort of thing?
+Ben on PC Depends, there are many jobs presented here, 3D artist, digital animator, VFX Specailist are only some of jobs involved here.
your penis
What Programs did they used ?
This was all recorded using smartphones with a customized Pokemon Go app.
2:01 this is what you see when you die
So basically only the actors are real 🐰
if only once upon a time had the special effects of game of thrones.....
Once upon a time doesn't have the budget sadly.
What program did they use for this?

Poor Emilia, must be boring to deal with that green stick for days.
"The dragons are the size of swans right now, so they are huge"..........yeah......they get.........bigger....
you should watch naga indosiar, the best CGI in my country
It's incrible!!

Bear fight was In ep 7
That one art director girl,
at 8:40,
Heather Greenlees,
Is SMOKIN' 🔥
All the CGI is just so good, but the Manticore just looked like shit. It looks like something out of Xena.
Yeah that was the low point in the CGI, should have probably used an actual robot instead. The dragons are really good for a full CGI model, which is really hard.
2:25 the dragon are size of swan and they are huge
Dude, that was real fn bear???? Always thought it was CG

So sad I'm trying to forget about so...
