    Here's my guide to thrifting in the Kansai area! Any secret spots I may have missed? I chose these because they were the most accessible by public transit. I've been to a few other good ones but with a car.
    古着屋 (furugiya) thrift store
    リサイクルショップ (risaikuru shoppu) recycle shop
    My top 3 fave stores:
    1. Jam (locations in AmeMura, Horie, downtown Kyoto (2) & Momodani
    2. Three Star (Kyoto & AmeMura)
    3. Chicago (Kyoto)
    4. whatever recycle shop is near you

    Thank you for showing some alternative things to see and do in Kyoto: most videos keep showing gardens, temples and shrines with absolutely nothing kitsch, hidden, alternative or cool revealed about that magnificent, layered city. It's very hard to find a real variety of videos which explore the cool, arty underbelly of modern Kyoto so thank you SO MUCH. I hope more people make the effort to find cool things to see, do and buy in Kyoto and upload videos, much appreciated. xo

    Frankie if you like Thrift Shops and chill but classy places, I highly recommend Nishinomiya Kitaguchi! Just 15 minutes by Hankyu from Umeda / Sannomiya station.
    My favourite mall in whole Japan is located there called Nishinomiya Gardens with many hidden gems nearby!

    Omg I love thrifting and I didn’t realize how many thrift shops there were in Osaka and Kyoto. Your style is so cute I loved everything you got. Also we have the same shirt, the kaws one you are wearing at the beginning of the try on. Me and my brother went to Uniqlo on the day everything dropped literally with our suitcases because we were heading to the airport 😅😂

    When I converted the prices of the tshirts into euro my jaw dropped! That's insane! Even ¥5000 is crazy for a tshirt. It's not like they are designer or anything either. I would never sell my Nirvana tshirt but I wonder how much they would sell it for.

    • @franklinthewoman
      @franklinthewoman  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah that’s true ¥5,000 is pretty crazy for tshirts unless they’re really special. Maybe they’d sell it for around ¥20,000 😂

    • @ciganyweaverandherperiwink6293
      @ciganyweaverandherperiwink6293 Před 3 lety

      Yep, I felt the same way on my first trip to Tokyo. Koenji and Shimokitazawa second hand vintage stores are all HIDEOUSLY overpriced. And I thought the whole 'tiny sizes only' thing was a stereotype but even I, as a UK size 8 to 10 found myself too big to fit into the majority of items I was drawn to. I couldn't believe it. If I felt like a beached whale, I can only imagine how a curvy and healthy size 12 to 14 chick feels-- gosh, not to mention the fellas! And I'd be curious to see how much your Nirvana shirt would sell for. By the way, here in the UK most hipster vintage stores are just full of nothing but pastel windbreakers. Just racks and racks and racks of bloody pastel or neon 1980's and 1990's windbreaker jackets and other ugly items that NOBODY cool ever wore in the 1990's. Wonder what items dominate the vintage stores where you are?

    Those “grandma” sweaters as you called them, were more popular during the 80s and 90s. My grandmothers didn’t wear sweaters like that, since they were from the 1930s, they still liked wearing dresses, always an apron too! I had a big selection of cute pastel sweaters, vests, blazers, shoes... I spent most of my paycheck on clothes and makeup, then rent and gas for my car! Lol...growing up in the Los Angeles area, I went with friends to nightclubs, the movies, sightseeing and shopping around Hollywood or downtown L.A., they had a lot of old department stores and thrift stores too. I now live in the Central Valley in California, and we have a few big consignment shops that sells everything from furniture, antiques, clothes, purses, shoes, jewelry and one big section sells amazing costumes for adults, it looks like they were used in Hollywood movies! When we travel to different states, I go check out the local towns thrift shops, since my hubby is just walking behind me or waiting outside, I feel rushed but he’s a trooper and doesn’t mind. Next time we go to Hawaii, I want to see their thrift stores, I bet they have some cool old Hawaiian shirts there, and Hawaiian trinkets. I would love to visit Japan, all of it! Lol... and just explore everywhere and just have enjoy seeing different parts of Japan. Thanks for sharing!

    • @franklinthewoman
      @franklinthewoman  Před 3 lety +1

      That is true I don’t think my grandma has ever worn those kind of oversized floral sweaters and knits but for some reason they always get called grandma clothing. I’d love to go thrifting in LA if I ever get the chance to visit! Visiting local thrift shops is always cool wherever you go. Hope you’ll come to japan one day!! 💖

      @@franklinthewoman When you ever get to travel more, I hope you show your husband more of the U.S., and you can also check out different thrift shops around. There's a place, I think it's still around, called Aardvark's, in Redondo Beach, CA. Not sure if there are more around, but they have the coolest vintage clothes. Also on Melrose Ave. in L.A., that street is known for all kinds of fun fashion, thrift shops and wild looking stores. I use to hang out there during the 80s! Lol My friends and I would sit and people watch, saw a lot of punk rockers walking around, people dressing crazy but cool people, it might not be like that anymore, we all grew up! Lol... and then there's Venice Beach, it has tons of cool shops and places to shop. My favorite city is San Francisco, that whole city is fun and has great local shops and hidden pubs and local ethnic food. Before I got married, I traveled a lot, mostly around the states but I met some great people and saw amazing places. Luckily I married a guy who loves to travel too! We've even been to Alaska twice, that was amazing to see! Take care and be safe over there! 💖

    • @franklinthewoman
      @franklinthewoman  Před 3 lety

      I think the selection is about the same except for the remake/upcycled pieces - I hadn’t found anything like that in NY but I think that’s also just trendier now. It’s pretty comparable to stores like urban jungle and L train vintage in bush wick.

      I haven’t thought about that! I’ve been trying out a collagen supplement for a couple months or so, so I thought I’d review that. Is there anything specific you’d want to see? Or a drug store tour? ☺️

    • @dorafarkas8684
      @dorafarkas8684 Před 3 lety

      @@franklinthewoman A review on the supplement would be great, I'm always curious how much it has an effect in anyway, since collagen is not only good for your skin but joints as well. I'm a big fan of Daikoku and they have a nice variety but usually I'm there in an aisle for 15 min try to figure out which item is for what😂 so yeah a tour would be nice and even own experiences with items that you find only in Japan and how did you like it. For example my partner likes RedBull a lot but it's quite expensive in Japan. I've found the Japanese substitute as in the taurine shots you can buy in packs. I've tried it too and it has a nicer effect than a Monster energy drink! Or another idea is Costco trip, I would love to have an insight and comparison with US Costco. Pricing and variety vise also.
