Large chess pieces created for AKQA, for the Future Lions 2015 event in Cannes, France. Carved from polystyrene / styrofoam, moulded and cast in glass fibre. Airbrushed and artworked to resemble white marble. Project included 2 knights, 2 pawns, and a Lion centre piece as the king. - Jak na to + styl

Looks good, but I think that black veining is a little heavy. It looks like it breaks up the forms too much.

As with all the things you guys have done that I watched this came out amazing. My marble look the marble look so realistic.
I have to say the first thing I noticed with the concept art where are the placements of the claws on the lion. I guess of years of
working with kids groups will do that to you.
13:04 I thought the black marble lines on the lion seemed a bit thick / too much contrast, although it's probably difficult to see the other colors on camera. They sculptures look amazing though, this was a great episode!
Love your work! Will you please tell me how you mount your concrete pieces outside without them being stolen? I have a parking lot that I use to keep a wooden sculpture of a dog. It was stolen once, and broken to pieces the second time because I had drilled holes through it in 3 different places to run rebar through it which ran through the concrete base and down into the ground 3 feet andcwas secured to more concrete. Im thinkinking of making the dog out of concrete now but I would like for it to be secure. Any betterbideas? I would appreciate all advice!!!

Would you say the client rang the division bell on each change? Were some votes poles apart from others? These are very well done, I am lost for words. Yet I keep talking. When you are casting is it wearing the inside out? I seem to be coming back to life, I want to do an outdoor chess table and I have high hopes after watching cluster one of this video. What do you want from me?
@Aden Hynes Scupture Studios. Love this project! What exactly did you use to coat the foam in order to protect it from the resin? Looks like you're no longer using the sticky back foil.
The polystyrene was completely coated in a water based plaster filler, and we then went over this with pva blue release agents. In the old days, before the foil was available to us, we used to go over the patterns with layers of a pva glue, this is just a similar process to that. Foil wasnt needed for this, as the plaster filler had already covered the whole job. The pva release agent just helped the pattern release from the fibreglass after we create the mould, as well as helping coat the plaster filler surface.

what is the suitable RPM do you use for carving table please ??
Hi Ali, We use a variable speed for our turntable, so depending on what size block of foam you're carving, you can speed it up or slow it down accordingly
