      The shocks aren't 'soft', the angle of incident is excessive.
      At 20deg, the downward force is multiplied by three
      At 15deg, the downward force is multiplied by four
      At 1deg, it's approaching infinity. Seriously, take a class in trigonometry.

      The problem with suspension is that if you for example have 3:1 leverageratio in linkage/ swing arm, then the actual spring rate at tyre/ wheel axle is spring rate divided with 3^2=9 -> spring/9. Or if leverage ratio is 2:1, then actual spring rate is spring/2^2= spring/4. That is one thing what most of the people, if "any", knows. And that is why typically these trial and error fabricators end up doing way too soft suspension.
      (Typically 600/100 street bikes have 2:1 linkage ratio, so when you use those shocks, keep that in mind).
      And also, if you want to use stiff spring, and you want to suspension to feel soft, then you just have to revalve compression damping and decrease compression damping, and suspension will feel soft even if you have (very) stiff spring.

      @robertwilk-WabbieWasabi666 Před 5 měsíci +4

      @@deadslow201 this comment is more about the tire than the suspension, there’s not really any safeguard keeping the rider from falling between frame/tire and becoming paste. That knobby tire gets you at any speed at all and it is all over. They need a backrest or a fender there.

      Honestly, I believe everyone is overthinking this. This is not going to ride anything like a traditional motorcycle. I would imagine the majority of its life will not be on pavement. A thing I noticed is that the front suspension has a very very large degree of geometry change through the suspension stroke do to it using a knuckle design combined with a single pivot swingarm. If you look at the Bimota/Vyrus system, they also use a single pivot, but the axle is floating with a rod leading back to the frame so that the steering angle of the hub remains the same as swingarm angle changes. Other systems like the ELF Honda use a knuckle kind of like yours/a car, but are a true parallelogram setup (like a double A arm car) so the steering angle is also fixed.

    Looks sick so far!!! just FYI, the reason the suspension is a bit soft is because of the massive leverage that the front and rear swingarms have. In a normal motorcycle, they are more like 1.5-2ft long, and this is like 3-4ft. Longer levers mean more leverage on the springs.

    • @deadslow201

We used to have bearing surfaces fabricated in to our input pinion shafts for the bow thrusters we manufactured from scratch. After initial machining of the pinions shafts from bar stock, post-spline work, etc. was done we'd ship the shaft off to have the bearing seat chrome plated, then grind the chromed bearing seat to .0005" press fit. Worked really well.

    I hope you realize that with that massive front wheel spinning at speed, because of gyroscopic forces, it will take a lot of power assisted turning to get both wheels to break from parallel. That's the problem most people have with this style bike build that I've seen. That's why people are telling you you wont be able to lean (while going fast). The amount of force it will take to counterturn the front wheel to lean into the turn, then turn the wheel the opposite way into the turn will be crazy. The other builders I've seen didn't figure it out, but now im telling you, so hopefully, you can tackle it since this is one of the coolest bikes I've seen. Good luck.

I hope it will have a mud guard, or something to prevent that... Also the back of the seat bar is very close to touching as the suspension bottoms out.... Crossing fingers for them!

    Considering how much weight you're going to add to the center, I think you should double the springs front and rear. Don't forget that you won't always drive on flat roads!

    • @deadslow201
      @deadslow201 Před 5 měsíci +1

      The problem with suspension is that if you for example have 3:1 leverage ratio in linkage/ swing arm, then the actual spring rate at tyre/ wheel axle is spring rate divided with 3^2=9 -> spring/9.

    About 10 years ago i had a Kawasaki nomad 1600 bagger. I was wearing out rear tires because i commuted to louisiana from florida every 2 weeks on it.. but it only wore out the 2 inches in the center of the tire. at 250 to 300 a piece every 4 or 5 months... it was getting old. I installed a very well researched car tire that looked awesome on it, and rode so amazingly well. It took a little getting used to becasue of the shape, but it actually solved some driving and handling issues that i didnt like. And I never work out another tire on it till i sold it 5 years later lol,
    I bet that thing youre building will drive like a beast. I would love to run a few laps around the city on it.
    Also.. with the soft ride, you may need to slap a skid plate on that baby lol

    I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Most channels begin to suck when they get big. You are now becoming big and so far still staying the course you were on before. You might might actually make it to "huge" and still be true to your beginnings.
    Congratulations are almost in order.

    It's not the "softness of the suspension" but the angle through which the force applied to it is being generated, that is creating this effect.
    The closer a suspended object is located to it's supporting anchor points, the more force is generated through the supporting structure.
    At 120" you have effectively doubled the mass applied to each of those shocks to what would be applied under normal placement. You're at around 180" which is approx. 600% times the mass in force applied to that frame and the shocks.
    I hope you’re welds are solid? Would reccomend increasing the minimum rise height to alleviate the extreme stress and get an engineer to check it over before riding it, lest it snap in two and have that rear wheel crush you.
