I feel like the reason Tobias wasn't included was simply due to him never being a true character. He was just a sentient roadblock that made sure a victory for Ash was near impossible. Hell, I'm pretty sure the anime staff didn't even think of his other 4 Pokemon.

I’m so happy that the Masters Eight lineup is finally revealed. I really hope Ash battles Alain first, then Cynthia, and finally Leon.
Same goes for me he dint get a chance to battle Cynthia, Steven or Lance so I'm hoping that ash get to fight one of them but if he's gonna get a chance to fight one of them its gotta be Cynthia thier fight was teased during the sinnoh arc only to not happen since ash lost to a walking plot armor ..... Really hope that ash gets to show Cynthia how much he's grown over the years (if its been years cause ash age is weird) but anyways yeah.... I'm all for Alain rematch, Cynthia then Leon.

Even if Diantha and Steven don’t play as big of a role in the Masters 8 arc as they did during XY, seeing them meet up with Ash is good enough for me. They’re my favourite champions to this day.
I just hope that just like the Alola league we get to see every battle
The main worry I see with Lucario being the one to defeat Maga Charizard X is that currently it wouldn't be very believable. One episode ago it was being demolished by a base form Greninja putting in little effort and all it really trained was it's ability to make big aura spheres. Alain Charizard has likely gotten far stronger then that and it'd be a very hard sell to have Lucario win unless they dedicate multiple episodes to giving it extremely tough training to get it to a level where that'd semi possible. Not to mention the G-Max Aura Spheres it uses probably aren't all that effective on moving targets since it's only used them so far on a big root and a non mobile Duraladon and the attack doesn't move all that fast. It will be interesting to see what they do here since if they're determined to have Ash rely on exclusively his Journeys Pokémon then they'll need to think of something. If they instead choose to let Ash mix in his reserves for the tournament then that would more or less guarantee Greninja being the one used. Especially since they suspicious omitted the form from even flash backs for little reason as of rn

While I can see the logic of that, something like this would require Ash to very randomly explain to Lucario that Greninja couldn't defeat Alain's Charizard. This would also need to be done in front of Greninja so that Lucario can make the promise to overcome Charizard in Greninja's place so that the whole "avenge me" thing would have actual emotional impact. At that point, they may as well have Greninja do it instead since they'll already be there. Not to mention that still doesn't circumvent the issue of Lucario simply being nowhere strong enough to be on Charizard's level. At this point, Lucario is leagues behind Greninja who himself couldn't defeat Charizard in the past so, it would take some extreme leaps through hoops to sell Lucario as being able to win, unless they dedicate several episodes to Lucario receiving training. Which they don't really have the time for since there aren't many episodes of Journeys left. If the series will end in late August, early September. We maybe have 15-20 episodes left and consider some of those are gonna be Goh episodes and maybe even another Chloe one, they don't really have the time for Lucario
Couple of generations ago we couldnt imagine ash in the top 10 strongest pokemon trainer roaster in the world. After BW we thought this day will never come. But here we are, ash is officially among champions
Ikr since BW was my first pokemon series if you told me back then that Ash and Iris would become champions and become the top 10 strongest trainers I'd laugh

I really do wonder why Paul wasn't included. I would've loved to see him in the tournament, especially since Cynthia said that he and Ash would face off in the champion league at the end of their Sinnoh League match. Maybe we'll get a Sinnoh episode where Ash sees him again, who knows?

I think Paul will help train Ash and encourage him to change his roster for the upcoming battles.
IMO, the reason why Paul isn't in the Masters 8 is because Ash doesn't have any reason to fight him once again. I mean, think about it, you'd have to squeeze Paul in for the sake of losing a potential more epic battle which provides more to Ash's character and may be a long awaited rematch. Alain is obiviously his redemption, writers know that, Cynthia is a long awaited match up fans wanted to see since Sinnoh, same goes to Lance and Steven. Diantha's battle against Ash wasn't finished and Ash got way stronger since then, while Paul and Ash's rivalry arc was finished, Ash won with Infernape and proved that Paul's view on Pokemon is wrong, everything there was closed. Not to mention, this way you have every member of the Masters 8 represent a region, unlike Paul

Man I can't believe Cameron didn't make it in, that makes no sense. Jokes aside, this is a really great roster of nothing but Champions and Alain who's probably Champion level if we're being honest. Diantha and Steven have the least weight to them but I'm still glad they're here.
Cameron didn't appear because it would be shameful for Leon to lose to a guy with 5 Pokemons.
I kinda wish Cameron would return at some point just so Ash can get his rightful victory over him.
They need all the champions to be here to show that they are the real champs. Alain is only here because he contributes to high tv rating last time and is a popular char even outside of fans...

Honestly the writers probably thought Tobias was too much hax and didn't include him. I mean like man literally had legendaries, and the ones he had were considered next to impossible catching in the anime's lore.
To me, it doesn’t make sense at all why Paul wouldn’t be there. It was even foreshadowed by Cynthia that they would even battle in the champions league(pwc). Also, I don’t really want Paul to just train ash. That would honestly be let down. Outside of that the trainers look good
Paul prolly never bothered to enter like most of them are champion levels give or take Alain is strong as any of the champions even Iris so it's hard to find a slot for Paul ..... And before you say anything Iris had become better if that wasn't the case she wouldn't be a champion nor have a slot in the masters 8.
All of them are champions except Alain, Alain is there for a rematch. I love Diamond and Pearl and the rivalry between Ash and Paul but there are better trainers than Paul.
A lot of people have theorised that Paul entered and had to fight Cynthia to get in the top 8 but lost. He'll probably train Ash before he has t fight Cynthia.
Just because he isn’t battling Ash right now in the pwc doesn’t mean he can’t in the future, he can always try to take Ash’s title if Ash ends up beating Leon, it doesn’t NEED to happen in this tournament if Ash is the future world champion
Now that Ash is in the master 8 I think it's about time that he should swapped his recent Pokemon on his team (Dragonite, Gengar, Lucario, Sirfetch and Dracovish) for his unevolved Pokemon left at Professor Oak's lab like Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Totodile, Corphish, Buziel, Gible, Snivy, Oshawott, Scraggy, and Rowlet(get rid of the everstone) to evolved at last just like Bayleef, Quilava, Pignite, Boldore, Paplitoad even though they should evolved to their final evolved form too.
Because they deserved another chanced to evolved in the series since some of them didn't get that chance in the original Pokemon, Orange Island, Johto, Advanced, Diamond and Pearl, Black and White, XY and Sun and Moon Arc. Plus if Ash is planning to face Leon in the future episodes than he'll going to need build up his Pokemon team by going back to train his old Pokemon.
Another reason why Ash should go back to train his old Pokemon because through Pokemon Black and White, XY, Sun and Moon and so far in Journey Series Ash never recall them back to his team when he first got ready to compete in the Unova, Kalos and Alola League.
There is one time that he once did before back in Pokemon DP Sinnoh League Victors were Ash finally decided to recall some of his Pokemon and at the same episode his Cyndaquil finally evolved into Quilava which was the best part of that episode. If Ash ever do that again in the upcoming Pokemon Journey episodes I would like him to recall his Bayleaf, Quilava, Totodile, Gible and Pignite because it's about time they have finally evolved at last.

So if the Master Class is going to have Brackets like in the game that means Ash is at best only gonna fight 3 of these 8. Leon of course is a given for the best case scenario, Alan cause we need that redemption, so who would be the last one? Don't think it would be Iris since he already beat her but I would love to see Ash beat any of the other 8.
I'd want one of the three to be Cynthia, she's had the most presence out of anyone here except Ash and Leon and well, it's Cynthia. Who wouldn't want Ash to fight freaking Cynthia in this awesome battle.

Orange League's more like a filler arc than anything. It's never mentioned again.
Although we could say it's a prototype to Alola. It's a group of islands, has 4 "tests" most of which are not battle-focused, Ash had conpleted them all, and then the grand event where Ash has to face up against the strongest guy there, and won in a full battle.

Tobias not being in this tourney is a joke years I’ve been waiting for closure in that situation. I always loved Tobias he’s my favorite character even with the little bit of time we seen him and in order for him to not be a “plot device” he needs the back story we all deserve.
I would like Richi and Gary to make a cameo, both being in the top 20-50 trainers. Get some gen 1 representation along with having a similar character to ash, Richi was still unable to keep up, showing that it is the experiences we make along the way that get us to where we are.
Gary already appeared in Pokemon Journeys. He's not participating in the World Coronation Series because he's a Pokemon researcher now.

2.I hope Iris and Cynthia battle again,seeing how they battle in BW and how Iris has a Haxourus now it only makes sense.
Well its hard to say given that yes iris is a champion but with the lineup its hard to pick someone who iris should win against given how beside Alain and Ash who would still whoop iris butt ....... The other champions are well above iris level in terms of experience.
I feel like iris should win against Lance and I changed my mind of Lance winning cuz it just proves how much iris has grown then gets destroyed by leon

2# vs Alan (It would be the biggest rematch in pokemon history)
3# vs Cynthia (a decade long in the making, People have been waiting for this match to happen)
4# vs Diantha (Honestly if Alan wasn't in the M8, I could of really see this match happen. I dooubt they would let Ash face 2 Kalos representative back to back)
5# vs Lance (Kanto representative vs Kanto representative would be awesome, but I prefer seeing Iris vs Lance for battle of true dragon master)
6# vs Steven (Besides Iris, I don't see this match happen, it would be cool but there are better candidates)
7# vs Iris (We already had that match, I doubt people would be happy if they faced each other again)
Overall I believe against Cynthia and Alan should really be happening. But yeah everyone has their own opinion so no need to agree with me 😅

This is really bad getting all champions for the masters 8. I really didnt want one of them to be shown stronger than the other. But its definite that Leon will face ash as the final challenger but i would hope to see ash battle cynthia or steven in the final 🔥 that will be legendary.

They have a much powerful bond with ash.. And also pikachu and greninja has a deep bond with ash and is his ace
About sceptile and lycanrock, they have great bond with ash and both are powerful, doesn't have a deep back story I can say
So it's difficult to choose I'd leave it to ash 😂

Let's be real if sword and shield wasn't the most recent games Cynthia would be undoubtedly number 1.
BDSP Cynthia would knock Leon out of the Park perfect IV and EV on all her team very decent movesets and items on them very decent lineup yeah Cynthia would have had what it takes to beat Leon if not for Leon's plot armor just So ash can fight him so at very least Let Ash fight Cynthia.

Tobias is on the OFF LIMITS ZONE since the staffs are basically dont him to in journey and they want the actual in game champion plus Alan because people wanted were upset the Kalos league.

I think after ash beats leon tobias will come from nowhere and beat ash in a 6v6 battle with a full team of legendaries. Ash might beat 3-4 legendaries but will hit his limit and understand there are far more mysteries in the world of pokemon. After beating to tobias his next goal would be beat tobias in a rematch and for that he will travel to gen9 region to research on legendary pokemons and find a way to beat them. Maybe he catches few legendaries in gen9

What if Alain loses to Leon? Mega Charizard X VS Gigantamax Charizard. Leon beats the guy who beat Ash in Kalos, now Ash has even more motivation to beat Leon because it's also a victory over Alain by proxy. Plus that way Ash doesn't battle two Charizards in the same tournament.

Ash , Iris and Lance- Dragonite
Alain and Leon- Charizard...
It would be too unsatisfying for Ash to not beat the one rival he never beat. I feel like that's the only reason they brought Alain back to begin with.

Iris vs lance is definitely gonna happen. Cynthia might lose to Leon to get her out the way.
I doubt it; there would be an uproar by the fans if Leon defeats Cynthia. Look at how people reacted to Lance being defeated by Leon... now imagine Cynthia, who has a very large fan base, losing to Leon. Fans wouldn't mind Cynthia losing to Ash though.
People want ash to fight Cynthia as its been long overdue people wanted ash to fight Cynthia in sinnoh if not for Tobias ..... Ash beaten Paul his long rival in the series only to get bodied by a random trainer with no backstory whatsoever nor been mentioned at all till the league.
@@vexem5182 I also heard somewhere that Pokemon company has strict rules when it comes to Cynthia, as she is fan favourite and pretty much the most iconic champion, therefore she can't really lose in anime, I feel like Ash would be most likely the only exception.

People who made an uproar weren't even thinking fully enough and there are still fans to this day, who are still not getting why Lance had chosen his Gyarados over his Dragonite. People literally tried to make excuses for Lance to make Leon seen like a carried character.
I mean is it so hard to understand that for Lance having a type-advantage pokemon was more important to him than his ace pokemon?

I wouldn't really get rid of anyone. Each one has some connection with Ash in one way or another. However, out of all of them I'd say my least favorite is Diantha. She's just overall not the best champion in my opinion, but that might just be because I just have been liking Kalos less and less as time goes on

2:13 After the bashing it got from BASE FORM Greninja, that would be too disrespectful to Greninja to be considered cool to me. Even if Lucario 3 shot Duraludon, it still wouldn't feel as well earned or deserved as it would if it was Ash-Greninja. Journeys' terrible pacing and omission of training arcs for Ash's Pokemon isn't doing any favors either. For example, Ash wanted to seek out Greninja seeing Goh's Frogadier. There wasn't anything showed on-screen that showed us why Ash wanted to Mega evolve Lucario. It's little things like these that separate Ash's awesome mons like those in his Journeys team, from being the one of the bests of all time, like Greninja, Charizard, Sceptile, Infernape, Krookodile, Lycanroc or even Incineroar. So I would rather not have Ash and Alain battle if Greninja or at least another one of his 'aces' aren't the ones to take him down. And if they do make Lucario win, it shouldn't be here and now.

Ok so I’ve just caught up and I don’t know bout this tbh. Why would you include Paul in the intro as his own panel btw if he’s not last 8. Probably my Sinnoh bias coming into play but cmon Paul should be there over Iris. I do understand why Alain is there Ash needs to beat him considering the fact he got robbed the last time.

@@arcanelight8365 I mean, I don't know about that. Ash is pretty powerful. Pikachu beat Regice in a 1v1 and then got way stronger since then. So no doubt the rest of Ash's Pokemon also got much stronger since then.

Diantha may be weak in games but she's still the champion in kalos region so she's not that weak in the anime.
Aside from Alain who is as strong as a champion ..... The rest holds titles of champions in thier respective region aside from ash who's the champion of alola.... You can argue Paul over Iris butt Iris grew better thou it's hard to see iris getting past more experienced trainer and champions on this lineup
