I just really hope they're not planning on treating Nihilillie over here as a pet or normal Pokémon, because the way the episode ends gave me very weird vibes. This thing literally saw itself like Mohn's daughter for the last ten years, and vice versa for Mohn, so catching her in a Pokeball- and if the preview is to be believed, using her in a battle- feels extremely wrong and fucked up, because this thing isn't just an Ultra Beast, and it shouldn't be treated as such.
Goh and Chloe being in this absolutely hurt the episode for me. I have no problem with Ash being there, because as you said, he was extremely involved with Lillie and Gladion's arc back in SM and is basically the main reason they're even where they are, so it makes complete sense for him to be here to see them finding their dad, but Goh and Chloe did NOT belong here. They have no idea who these people are, they have no business just standing there watching the most personal moment in their lives play out like a fucking tv show, and the way they kept cutting to them during the section with Mohn remembering everything made me genuinely uncomfortable to the point I had to skip most of it, because Goh and Chloe's presence there felt almost voyeuristic. Obviously not in a sexual sense, but in a- they should NOT be watching this- sense.
Oh I thought I was the only one calling her Nihilillie. Anyway, yeah it getting treated like a Pokemon just doesn't feel right since for around 10 years, it was a little girl. I know it'd probably take a bit of adjusting but I feel it would be right to respect Nihilillie as what she's become.
I also agree that Goh and Chloe had no reason being there. Ash gets a big pass because of his past with Lillie and being there for most of her big moments of development. The most Goh has heard of Lillie was from a letter and Chloe knows absolutely zilch about what's happening. They add nothing and honestly take away. Imagine having this big emotional climax with your family and there are 2 randos you have no attachment to watching it.
This is my only gripe about the episode and is why I wish they could've made it a special or something. While most of the episode was practically perfect, I was genuinely uncomfortable whenever it cut to Goh and Chloe during the real reunion. Luckily, the moment was too strong for that to ruin it for me, but it was close.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had such heartfelt passion for this episode. There was so much quality in this episode it's kind of hard to believe it's a Pokemon episode. Sure Ash and the Gang didn't necessarily had to be there but nonetheless I feel like the episode really didn't excellent job telling a great story narrative and putting a really well done end reuniting a broken family.
It's just so surreal seeing the general positivity of the anipoke community on this. This episode rightfully deserves it, don't get me wrong just weird to see. Even people who had more issues with the episode like Goh and Chloe especially not needing to be there and Lillie's family taking this long to find Mohn's location while the Ash and co. just needing a flight to get close to that same place still think the episode told it's story beautifully. As a SM fan, I am so glad I can stop hanging off this cliff and leave satisfied.
As a fan of not only the SM anime but also the SM games where we didn't get the happy ending, I absolutely love this episode. It's been a while since a Pokemon episode got me emotional.

As I was watching this episode, for some reason I was thinking back to some of the more bizarre episodes of the Original Series(Porygon episode, Beauty and the Beach, the Sabrina arc),, if you want to talk about "weird episodes" and twisted plot ideas. Regardless, I thought this episode was flawless. BEST episode of Journeys to date. Superior return episode to even Serena's return. And one of the best episodes in the anime. I go that far with this one.
One of the best episodes in the entire anime for sure. I don't even want to call it a return episode. It was more than that. Has any other return ever had this much weight, and this much anticipation? Nope. This episode was a conclusion to a story that we left behind years ago, and man the wait was worth it. I really, really wish it had been a special instead of a normal episode tho. I think it really was important enough to warrant being a special, and that way the writers wouldn't have to awkwardly force Goh and Chloe in. But other than that, this episode was practically flawless.

Believe me or not I really hate journeys animation. But when I was watching this episode and especially when Pikachu used iron tail I thought I was watching XYZ. And overall the animation of this episode was crazy at least in terms of pokemon anime.

@@yarc9 I guess it all just comes down to opinion. I prefer either the sharper tones of XY or the softer, rounder animations style of SM than Journeys, which I think is a mixture of both.
