  • EE's 5G network has been active since May 2019 giving them a lot of time to increase coverage and speed for the UK, so let's test it out on the iPhone 12 Pro to see what speeds we can get. Any questions about 5G or the iPhone 12 post a comment and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
    Let me know what speeds you get on your phone!

    The fastest I’ve had on 5G is about 330 Mbps with 15mbps upload in Swindon. In Bristol I’ve had on 4G 560mbps and 10mbps upload. I think it will be a few more years until 5G becomes much more advanced than 4g

    Very nice speed. More then enough. But I did get 400 plus on my iPhone XR with 4g.

      Yeah 4G is still going strong, looking to do another test soon and see if there's any improvement

    hi jack great vid thx for testing in sot that's where i am from i am on 3 atm question i am running a xr and the question is will the xr be able to run 5g in time or will it be a 12 and on to use the 5g network regards ad

    • @JackLeighJCL
      @JackLeighJCL  Před 3 lety +2

      That's alright hope to do some more testing later on. If I'm understanding your question correctly, the XR isn't able to support 5G so you will need am iPhone 12 or newer. Let me know if that answers your question.

    Have you tried doing the speed tests more than once at the same location? I find that at times the speed can be half of what the next test can give me.

    • @JackLeighJCL
      @JackLeighJCL  Před 2 lety

      I have and for me it's pretty much the same each time. Are you connected to the same server each time?

      @@JackLeighJCL Yes, I use the same across all my devices, the closest and most reliable Bristol Uni.

    • @JackLeighJCL

      Then it could just be changes in the network. For me it changes a little bit but not much, in a city though it's more variable.

    My iPhone X gets 22mb download on 4g on o2 with full signal. How on earth have you got 197mb? If I got 197mb I would feel like I was living in the year 3000.
    Will yours get faster 4g purely because it’s a 12 pro or is your o2 network better down south? I’m in Durham.

    • @JackLeighJCL
      @JackLeighJCL  Před 3 lety

      Haha, not living under water yet 😂 It's probably both, the iPhone 12 on 4G should get higher speeds than previous iPhones because of the new Qualcomm modem. Then with the carriers it just depends who you are with and where you're testing, unfortunately O2 ranked the slowest with an average download of 18.2Mbps compared to EE's 36.4Mbps. Again depends on the region, it may be very different in Durham, you can try out the app 'coverage map' which lets you see data speeds for different carriers in various locations.

    I don't understand why it's so slow. I split my time between UK & Thailand and currently I'm in the UK due to Covid. In Thailand, I get faster download speeds on 4G than people are getting here on 5G....

    • @JackLeighJCL
      @JackLeighJCL  Před 3 lety

      I know it isn't great unfortunately, I don't know their exact plan but maybe they're going for coverage first and speed second. The locations I tested were only 5G enabled recently so perhaps in bigger cities like London 5G may be faster. Hopefully speeds will increase as they build out the network, at least the 5G speeds were faster than the 4G in those locations so that's something.

    My Samsung Galaxy A42 5g (cheaper end of the snapdragon platforms). Croydon Surrey 1442Mbps down 109 Mbps up 13ms ping 5 jitter. Mythic Beasts Ltd London. On my windowsill at home 715Mbps down 33.1 Mbps up 13ms Ping 1 jitter. Cerberus Networks Ltd London.
    The fast 1442 Mbps test used 2,478 MB of data yikes shock.

    • @JackLeighJCL
      @JackLeighJCL  Před 3 lety +1

      Even out of the car I didn’t get any faster speeds, I’ll have to do another test 6-12 months on see if the speeds get faster. You seem to be getting super speeds 😂 very impressive. I know what you mean, these faster tests are eating the data away 😂 thanks for sharing your results though 👍

      @@JackLeighJCL jack before a test do a little tune up on your phone. Make sure you have decent charge, and turn of any data limits because some of the speed-tests use >2.5GB im a 5g newbie just lucky to have good speeds close by. There is a block of flats i can see from my upstairs window i picked 715mbps.
