This video is about the Yashica Electro 35. I show viewers how to shoot with and load film into a Yashica Electro 35 GS. I review the specs of the camera and show pictures I have taken with it.
*In the video I said the camera has TTL metering, but I was given the wrong info. It does not.

Awesome work. Thank you Very Much. Friendstervintage.
Very nice video. Interesting camera. Like your cleaning tips.
I remember in photography school a classmate used one as a point-n-shoot at gatherings. The camera and lens produced excellent colorful & sharp prints. Let's not forget the camera operator was very skilled. I purchased one a few years back. A combination of fujifilm and golden hour produced some remarkable shots of landscape, flowers etc. Always used Kodak film for people thought it produced best skin tones.
Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching
Great video! I'll definitely be checking out those battery adapters for my Electro 35 :)
Minsan Sauers thank you :)
Excellent video. Thank you for all your hard work and information. Time to order an adapter!
thank you so much. I really needed this comment today. I am so glad you enjoyed it. Let me know how it works out for you.
@@AlysVintageCameraAlley Worked out beautifully. Friendstervintage's adapter is solid too.
@@mrrybicki great! I’m glad to hear it
You're a Baller! Please keep the videos coming.
Thank you!
Great video...I have this camera and agree about the film. There's just something about the bandw that looks fantastic with this lens. Thanks again...look forward to more videos.
doug exley thanks so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Anything you’d like to see in the future?
Great camera, however this not the GS model. It looks to be the first version launched in 1966 I believe. The batterycheck lamp assembly, the cutout on the bottom, the silver white bezel around the metering lights, the all metal film transport lever all are tell tale signs of the first version. The asa dial though isn’t the correct one for this version. That looks to be from a GS.
Anyways still a great camera and lens!
Not bad for its years. I just got a Kodak instamatic 500. I am just waiting for the film to arrive!
I hope to use 35mm film in a 126 cartridge. Keep up the great videos, they certainly inspire me.
CireByte oh wow I’ve been wanting to do that with the instamatics I have. Do you have to roll the film into the cartridge? Let me know how it goes!
@@AlysVintageCameraAlley I first got interested in trying when i saw how good the Kodak camera was (made by the same factory that made the retina cameras) although they are a bit delicate, i managed to get one that works.
You have to get an old 126 film cartridge 24 exposure, the procedure is a bit lengthy but there are a few youtube videos about it.
I have yet to try it myself!! ^..^ 35mm film in 126 camera
CireByte sounds fun. Let me know how it goes.
@@AlysVintageCameraAlley Finally i got my results back, not good. The film must have been stored in warm conditions (it was years out of date).
The roll of 126 color film came out totally black!
Oh well! maybe try again with 35mm film next time. ^..^
CireByte oh man that stinks. I wonder what was wrong. What kind of film was it? Was it infrared or something? I wonder what would make it black. I would def try again with non expired film just to get rid of that variable. Then if that doesn’t come right then you know it’s the camera.
I bought one of those in the early 90s.It's a good solid camera with a good lens. You don't get much exposure information so you have to work around that.
M Poole that’s cool. Do you still have pics you took with it then?
@@AlysVintageCameraAlley Probably, but I have so many it's hard to separate each camera.
Dear aly,
Canny video as always:)
If you want to try something a little different, try out a Yashica TLR:) I've a Yashica 24 which is simply lovely to take photographs with:) But any Yashica TLR will do to get that experienve from.
Stay safe & be well:)
Regards,
I have wanted to try one of those such as the Yashicamat
This is not the Yashica GS... Yours is the first model. Yashica electro 35 without the "G". That means, that the internal contacts are not gold plated. I have the model, that came out after yours. Yashica electro 35 "G". And it's not a TTL metering. The light meter is the smaller window on the left. Anyway, it's a nice camera. Sorry for my bad english.... Greetings from Berlin, Denis
Thanks for the info!
this is my first film camera. i’m trying to get into film and i’m quite struggling with how to use it. 😭
It’s a great camera. What do you need help with? I’d be glad to help
Is there any provision for manually controlling the shutter speed, or is this camera auto-exposure only?
Brian's Photo Show no it’s only aperature priority. The only control you have is the iso setting and the 3 settings flash, auto and bulb
You can kinda get a little control over the shutter speed when you dial-in your aperture. With the "Slow" and "Over" indicators... If you're over exposed it shows "Over" so you stop down a notch at a time. When the "Over" light goes out you're at somewhere around 1/500th shutter speed. Going the other way, if you're "Slow" indicator comes on you open up the aperture until that light goes off. Your shutter should be near the slowest possible setting. To get somewhere in between you can play with the few stops in between (where neither light comes on - "good exposure area") to get a slightly faster or slower shutter respectively.
@@AlysVintageCameraAlley A great review and battery adapter link, I note when you mention the shutter speed dial "from 25 to 1/1000th of a second" @ 3:00 that's the ISO dial. The camera will pick the shutter to match the f stop we pick - that's why it has the over- under indicators.
IF you use as an example 200 ISO film and it's great outdoors in the sun ,but shots inside are dark ,turn the ISO film speed dial down to 100 ( as if a slower value film ) and it will change the opening size in the light sensor window up front and let a little more light in by way of metering a longer shutter. Hope that helps someone :-)
@@MrFreakwent thank you. Yea that was a mess up I didn’t I notice I made until it was too late.
No problems with the "pad of death" ? I've to take mine apart because of it, it's a common problem with these camera's.
Erwin de Groot luckily I have not had the pad of death yet. I have heard about it though. I hope you can fix it. Do you have to replace the rubber?
Why were the shots so green?
Idk I didn’t develop them. The Darkroom did and this video was back when I first started shooting film.
