Always thought this was a beautiful jewel of a camera. This camera model was under serious consideration when I was trying to decide on my first 35 mm film camera many years ago. The fast f1.7 maximum aperture lens was a strong feature to me, as well as the generally simple operation and good build quality. I passed on it because I decided a 35 mm SLR was the way to go for me and I ended up with a Nikon FM, which I still have and dearly love and will not part with. My sister had a Yashica Electro 35 GSN and was very pleased with it..she may still have it. Who knows if I run across one of these in good shape may grab it just for fun. Yashica cameras have had a good reputation over the years.
Quite a nice summary of this camera. I've watched a bunch of videos about it because I'm about to buy one soon, and although mostly all of them mentioned the shutter lock function, but only to lock it in an unpressed state so it won't get pressed or something in your bag but it's so useful to know that you can lock it when being pressed, that is great for the bulb mode indeed, thanks!
I'm pretty sure it is intended just to stop it from being accidentally depressed, as you said. While it could lock it down during bulb mode, the camera shake from engaging and disengaging it with an open shutter would be horrendous.
@@standandeliver8376 hey old comment haha, now I'm at my third camera since then haha. But the lock as I remember didn't work with bulb, it didn't keep the button pressed which is sad because I'd have loved to do some light painting with my husband, but you'd need an extra person to keep it pressed. Not sure about the shake though.
@@crazyhammie8864 Yes, I spotted it was over two years old just after I posted 😄. I've just bought the Yashica, but it doesn't work, so I'm in the process of doing one or two repairs. Glad to hear you're indulging in numerous (presumably) classic cameras!
I can’t get my film rewind to come up to open the film box does anyone know what to do?
I've got the Yashica Electro 35 GTN, great cameras.
Agreed, no wonder they were so popular back in the day!
what battery replacement for this camera?
Hey Franky, there are lots of options when it comes to finding an alternative battery for the Electro. Check some out here: www.flickr.com/groups/44787261@N00/discuss/72157627643860874/
I have this camera to. My Father give it to me, and i used it for around 10 years before Digital Camera era begins...
Wonderful! These are great cameras, aren't they?
can you share some of the images, i’m curious to see how the film looks
When i look through my view finder i can only see 1 image instead of 2. Is my camera fine? Or there’s something wrong with it? TIA
The second image should only appear as a small yellow diamond shape in the center of the frame. If you don't see it, check if there's anything blocking the diamond shape opening on the front of the camera (located above the lens). If it's clear, then the mirror inside the rangefinder assembly may be misaligned.
Vintage Camera Lab ah okay. I see it now. Thanks for the help. Great review btw
glad to hear that you found it! you're very welcome.
Is this camera need battery to snap picture ?
Kaer popo no need , but battery control the shutter speed and light meter , makes it a lot easier to use
As Chiang Gong stated earlier, a battery is not 100% necessary but it's very difficult to effectively use this camera without one.
The battery adapter is available here: www.yashica-guy.com/document/battery.html
Funny. I use the shutter button lock to keep from accidentally pressing the shutter button when I'm walking around. It actually saved my camera once when it fell off my strap and landed on the button. All it did was force the button down and waste a frame instead of breaking it outright.
Wow, what a lucky break! Glad to hear that your Electro survived the fall.
if u need it mail me
Hey Shanthi. If I need what?
