    One feature that almost no one mentions is - GL and GX had the silicon meter instead of CDS cell. It’s more responsive and more reliable which makes this cameras even better.

    Thank you, this was such a fun video full of information!
    This is a refreshing take on comparison videos. I would love to see more videos like this one where you compare variable models of the same camera!

    Excellent video and great comparison. I have been using my Yashica Electro 35 GTN camera to make color slides since 1977. Very reliable, works well, I love it!

    Love your content helping to put great cameras back into operation. I've also just picked up a couple of untested Yashica's reasonably cheaply (one is a GT with the black hotshoe and film holder and a GTN) - both need a little work on the light seals and the GXN unfortunately had the buzzing and intermittent exposure lights. After watching your video I have the GTN working well now so just the seals to do. Hopefully then I'll be able to put a rolls of film in therm to see how they perform so really looking forward to using them.

    Thanks for the great video. I recently got a CCN and the photos came out kind of dull compared to my Olympus Mju 1, even though I used the same developing place and scanner. Going to keep giving it a go though as the reviews are just so good.
    It was rattling a bit and I was brave enough to unscrew the bottom plate and a small golden colored pin/nail fell out… Hoping whatever it was, it wasn’t important 😅

    I purchased a Yashica Electro GT with a shutter that would not fire. Coming from shooting an SLR for street photography, I’d really like a solid range finder for a reasonable price.
    Very informative video. Thank you.

    Great video! Thanks! Looking forward to the video about your visit to Okinawa :)
    Also I would love to see a video on how to change the Pod in the Yashica Electro 35 CC. I know that there are more people out there seeking for advice on how to do just that :) plus that tips about lighter fluid, that would also be great to see how you do it :) I have three different Electros and they all need some TLC.
    All the best from Sweden!

    Thank you. Please do share content from your break if you have time. I can't decide between the CCN and the GX.

    • @jw48335
      @jw48335 Před 2 lety +3

      The GX doesn't have a PoD, it has a more reliable silicon diode light meter sensor, and it has parallax correction. The biggest issue for me though is ISO range and shutter speed on the CCN - 1/250 & 500 ISO is painful. You get 1/500 & 800 on the GX. Since these cameras have no manual control, max ISO and shutter matter a lot. If you load the CCN with 400 speed film you'll end up at F/16 pretty darn easy.
      All this is why I favor the GL - you get 1600 ISO and the silicon diode meter on it. Sure, it's a little bigger, but if I want a pocket camera I use an XA, not a metal heavy rangefinder;)

      @@Dangoldmedia Last note - if you do get one, I recommend the silver oxide batteries, not the alkaline. The best option I have found is the 4LR44 with an adapter from "yashica guy". The 6v gets the meter pretty close, but I often go ahead and give it an extra half a stop of exposure. Good luck!

    What are the symptoms of a bad POD issue? Great video by the way, very enlightening.

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  Před 2 lety +2

      If the POD is bad, the shutter won't fire correctly. The battery check lamps and meter lamps may work, and the shutter will fire, but not consistently at the proper speed.

    Great video thank you. Did the 35 GX with 40mm lens also eliminate the POD like the GL..?

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  Před rokem +1

      There is no POD on the GX, the main issue these cameras have is corroded contacts, but these are easily cleaned up.

    Isn't the GX 1/500 th of a second and not 1/250 as you mention ? Specs dixit Yashica Guy : "Shutter Electronic shutter with continuously variable speeds from LT [Long Time to 30 secs] to 1/500 sec.; features high performance IC and three semi-conductors; built-in-self-timer with self-locking system."

      And how it was resolved? I understood that there is some automatic mode that blocks shutter in case of other setting was not aligned to auto mode.
