    I Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! This is the second video about the 7.3L godzilla engine from Ford. I figured you guys would also want me to take this truck on the road and test out the engine in the real world.
    the first thing that caught my attention is the sound of the engine. both the ram 6.4 Hemi and the Chevy 6.6l v8's sound pretty mellow with their factory exhaust on. the 7.3L has a bit more punch and snappy sound which I really like.
    on the road this 7.3L v8 has plenty of power and the torque is amazing. you forget the beauty of a naturally asperated v8 of that size is capable of delivering great amounts of torque without any turbo lag.
    The second thing that caught me by surprise was the engines acceleration. this f250 with the 7.3L gas engine is a pretty quick truck and with those tall 4.30 gears this truck feels very quick. it is without a doubt the fastest HD gas engine on the market right now.
    In terms of ride comfort. the engine is very well balanced and has almost zero vibrations as any rpm range which is nice to see given that the engine is this large.
    The fuel economy for this 7.3L f250 gas engine is as you would expect - not good. I averaged like 11mpg but that's what I would expect out of a heavy truck with a big engine.
    overall I really think ford made this a good driving engine and I enjoyed being behind the wheel.
    I hope you liked the video!

      Perhaps they changed it for 2023, but my 2017 F-350 has a mini thumb shifted paddle on the end of the shift lever. It allows me to step down through the gears and prevents the transmission from upshifting above the gear it stepped down to. I use it to hold the gear when hill climbing on winding sections where it would otherwise upshift after completing a turn only to downshift again at the next turn. I also use it to preemptively downshift at the beginning of a downhill section. - Very useful.

So far the most I’ve pulled was around 8K lbs with a 28’ utility trailer. It did fine going from my home to the desert which involves climbing to around 4000’ and dropping back to sea level. New trailer will be a bit more weight but a lot more wind resistance.

    I like this guy, but it's always odd to me when people make statements like, "I'm not really a Ford guy." Why do you have to be an anything guy, just give your thoughts and take them as you see them. Everybody makes good things now, and picking a side makes no sense. Today's Ford or Chevy has almost no resemblance to yesterday's anyway. I appreciate anything that's good and I pick what I like. I currently own a 1957 Chevy and an F150. I think people who always stick with one brand are letting their bias prevent them from making rational decisions. Hell even most athletes play for more than one team throughout their career.

      The odds are that the bolt patterns are different, as well as the flexplate's position relative to the bellhousing , the location of sensors monitoring the ring gear, etc.
      If you considered the cost of converting and how much you'd lose in value for a 'bastard' vehicle if you ever sell it, you'd just be better off sticking with the engine you have.
      Based on the improvements made over the decades since the 460 (7.5) was designed, the 460 may match the torque, but not the HP, the fuel economy, or reliability of the 7.3.

    I have a '17 Ford with the stalk-mounted manual shift buttons. They need to be paddles. If you're in manual mode you have to take your right hand off the wheel to use them. Granted, manual mode isn't used often, and I don't use it to try turning my truck into a sports car. But I do use it to get the engine up to temp in the morning, and I'd much rather be able to change gears while keeping my hands on the wheel.

    Power wagon the best pick up out there?!
    Yeah, who needs another 2000 pounds of payload for an equivalent Tremor F250?
    My wife’s Ford Flex has almost as much payload as the “Power” Wagon. TERRIBLE on Ram.
    But other than that comment,
    Great video!

    • @ianmf9312
      @ianmf9312 Před rokem +2

      Power wagon was specifically built for offroad and not in between like the tremor. That's why ram is building the rebel 2500 to be the middle ground. Power wagon has locking front and back differentials and disconnecting sway bars. Tremor only has a rear locker. Power wagon has way softer suspension and like I said is solely built for offroad. I like that ram listened to people like you which is why the new Ram Rebel 2500 will be the middle ground for towing and offroad. That's what you should be comparing the Tremor too. It's his opinion and personally I absolutely love driving the power wagon but I frequently tow so it wasn't practical for me. And btw does anyone ever listen to the payload numbers? I thought we all just eyeballed it by how much she's squatting.

      Look I think the tremor is a really cool truck. BUT have you ever driven one off-road? It will shake your teeth loose.
      The power wagon is the ultimate truck for me anyways. I guess I value off-road ability over being able to haul 4,000lbs or tow 20,000lbs.

Ford has a bad history of not being honest according to utube many owners have to pay and warranty are not paying either. Not sure if this but utube shows a lot of ford going n that direction so researching is best before u buy one.

      That's bs ford replaced the engines completely not just cam and lifters we had a van that had a 7.3 in it lifter got to ticking in it and ford said the just replace the engines totally and it not a widespread problem it happens in vehicles that idle alot because of the variable pressure oil pump the pressure just went down to four psi for fixed tje pump to keep 10 to 12 lb oil pressure now

  • @Fiterpilot

    TBH I'm very underwhelmed by this engine. I thought Ford would come up with something better power wise. The 7.3L barely makes more power than the 5.0L or the 3.5L Ecoboost engines (and in some cases it makes less) while drinking more gas and being significantly heavier.
    Max torque isn't made until roughly 4k rpm which is laughable for a V8 standards, let alone truck standards.
    Max towing capacity is different. Depending on trim levels there isn't a large difference between the 150 and 250 7.3 in capacity. But how much of that is because of a chassis difference rather than the engine?
    "Just mod it"
    1. No one is going to drop the warranty on a $80k-100k truck.
    2. A stock 5.0 can easily hit 800-900 HP on 10-12lbs of boost and E85
    And it isn't even more reliable than their 5.0 or 3.5. At this point the motor is mid and especially with increase economy and emissions why would they produce something so large with no real gain?

    • @logantcooper6
      @logantcooper6 Před rokem +6

    • @robertl9065
      @robertl9065 Před rokem +5

      It’s not how much power it’s where in the RPM range that it makes it’s power and torque.
      If you want a race truck, get something else. If you want to tow 15k all day in the mountains the 7.3 will walk away from a 5.0 and a 3.5 all day long.
