Pink Diamond is a real, true example of someone who's just trying to do the right thing. In many cartoons, the "hero" is shown by doing everything perfect with no repercussions and everyone is happy the bad guys lost the end. But Pink Diamond made mistakes. Her decisions hurt people closest to her even when she didn't mean to. And her past did catch up to her, and her death affects everyone. It's pretty cool, thanks Rebecca Sugar.
Also, I'm pretty sure Pearl fused with Rose during the performance to prove to Greg that this is a relationship only she can have with Rose. That feeling of fusion is something he'll never understand.
I know, right? A lot of people hate her for making mistakes but everyone makes mistakes. Yes, some of her mistakes heavily affected other people but she didn't mean to. She's so realistic. She tries to do the right thing but sometimes, she fails. Nobody is perfect. Even the diamonds aren't perfect. I know, just because it was a mistake doesn't mean that'll just magically erase the pain she accidentally caused. In a way, I saw myself in her.. I always try to do the right thing but often fail. I didn't realize that someone had a crush on me and that ended up hurting him. I didn't realize that I was only making things worse. Rose isn't just some God that's always perfect and will do everything right. She makes mistakes too. Don't lie to me that you haven't made a mistake before. That's a load of bullshit if you lie to me about that.

Honestly, Rose hurt a lot of people without knowing it she never even got the chance to apologize to them.
That’s why I love her character so much!!! She’s so complex and it’s to hard to label her as either a good or bad person because her actions keep contradicting each other and it gets even harder when you learn of how harmful her life was on homeworld both to her and the gems she cared for!!!

Its crazy how pearl was still loyal to rose even after she died and this hurt to know that the only person pear truly LOVED is gone now... and her anger was not pointed at anyone she just knew that no one could feel what she felt but maybe she could be wrong her love for rose was so blinding that she couldn't even see that everyone around her was hurt just as bad rose was seen as this angel and wonder which she was but she was so selfish for what she wanted she lied hurt people just for her curiosity of this world...
Yea thats what i think...pink never had any friends neither freedom...she didnt like how she lived, how everyone treated her like they were robots just following rules. She wanted to find a meaning to what it meant to be alive...she just did what thought was right but never knew how bad it hurt the ones who loved her....maybe she was tired of always caring and loving others that she wanted to be a bit selfish and do a very special choice..to give her life for steven to be made. Saphire even says"she was following us" that shows how much she never knew how to act alone, thats why when she made the choices that she did it always hurt others and be bad but good too. "What do you know, you never even met her" is just such an awful thing to say. I get that she mad and hurting but damn, to say that as if Steven wouldn't have loved to grow up with his mother. All he hears are stories and he has to live up to the legacy of a woman he's never even met. Rose isn't even a mom to Steven, more like a symbol or a historical figure that was never really a real tangible person cause he never got to ever know her as a person and as a mother. That line is just so upsetting.

I think often about the quote “What do you know, you never even met her” and how we felt about it then, and how we feel about it now. It’s true, what did he know? He didn’t know anything about her at this point. All he knew was that she was this amazing leader everyone looked up to, someone who loved her friends, and did what was best for everyone. She was this idealized figure he only knew through the eyes of the people who loved her the most. Watching him learn the truth about her, it really makes Pearl’s words hit different. Ugh this show is so good.

Pearl's pain is understandable, same goes with lapis. Both has suffered enough. Lapis was forced to be stuck in a mirror because the Homeland thought she was a rebel, and she was used as a 'tool'. Later on the war broke out and she was left cracked. Being in an almost-dead state for a gem, and stuck in a mirror for eons being left out, of course her mental would've gotten destroyed over time. Even when the Crystal Gems know she's in there, they didn't let her out, that would've damaged her feelings completely. Not saying that I disagree with you since pain, suffering, and trauma cannot and never will be able to be compared with each other since a person's mental capacity are all different, I just wanted to add haha

Thats not true. She never belittled pearl, at least not on purpose. In “Roses Scabbard”, she tells Pearl “You don’t have to do this with me”. She waned to pearl to have a choice. In “A Single Pale Rose”, Pink says “We’ll both finally be free”. She never saw Pearl as a “pet”. She wanted her to to be free, too.

The relationship between Pearl and Rose is so heartbreaking because Pearl put everything into wanting to be with her, wanting to protect her, wanting to be everything with her. But how little Pearl probably meant to her in the grand scheme of things- how invalid her feelings probably were. It was inevitable the way that things turned out.

Steven when he was younger reminds me of my younger self. I was a bunch of people's therapist. Especially my mother's "therapist" which isn't healthy tbh. A parent shouldn't rely on their child for that, it should be the other way around.
That episode where he had to follow her to the cliff and she says “I wonder if she can see me through your eyes sometimes… what would she think of me now?” And he has no words so he just hugs her hoping his emotions will reach her how much HE cherishes her. Loss is the worst kind of pain no matter what position your in-child, lover, or friend and that’s the one thing they could understand equally, I lost my dad and this show conveyed so much I never realized I was trying to say, it hurt but when u let urself hurt u let urself heal a little at a time.
There’s so many moments in this show that they just did so beautifully and stevens personal journey was the most painful because it was the most real. When you lose yourself trying to do the right thing, be that person for the ones you love and suddenly realize your pillars have turned to sand and your falling and spiraling and no one can reach you because u used ur pillars to build a wall around yourself without ever realizing it and it takes someone capable of breaking those walls to make u actually feel okay or break ur fall, when u don’t have that someone u just fall and break and then slowly that someone who could’ve helped at the time starts to become you and u learn how to get back up, how to heal and continue forward and maybe u repeat and fall again or maybe u stay down or maybe when u get back up u don’t repeat but instead lose a really deep piece of yourself, but it takes a lot of beauty to help mold urself to be as strong as you once were-beauty from the pain, beauty from the quiet after the storm, even if it’s echoing loneliness there’s something mesmerizing about it and it’s just the pure and raw strength u unearthed from the fall, ready to help u rebuild urself. It’s what makes u u. And his gem self I felt like was a sort of picture of that in a way, when he had to face white alone.

Pearl has always been my favorite character for she was someone I can relate to when someone close to me passed. Her outburst I always understood and she is indeed a tragic character. I like to think she'll eventually find peace with all she went through:)

🌺this show meant so much to me, the show had a much deeper meaning and it slowly unraveled itself and showed what actually happened in the story. *ROSE QUARTZ/PINK DIAMOND* shown in 2:40 and 2:57 you can see Steven never really got to know his mom and he will never be able to know her. he can only hear the stories of how amazing she was but he was also able to realize that his mom wasnt perfect saying she literally started a war just because she didn't get her way, but she had a reason for that, ( update for Pink she had destruction screams? pretty weird I know and empathetic tendencies I think that's the one ill look it up and swap Pink and Blue if it is, also could heal things )as Pink Diamond she did all she could for the other Diamonds to listen to her, Pink told them she wanted to preserve life on Earth, so the Diamonds threw humans in The Zoo, she didn't want the humans in the zoo but the other Diamonds refused to listen to her and told her to finish what she started, and thats why Pink Diamond faked her shattering and became Rose Quartz. Rose started the war to make a stand against the Diamonds and show that she didn't follow their rules anymore and defended Earth until she had Steven. *STEVEN UNIVERSE/PINK STEVEN* Steven was growing up the his moms shadow and literally everybody expected him to be Rose and act like her, in Rose's Scabbard (Season 1 Episode 45), Pearl states how Steven would talk like her and occasionally act like her, that was pretty wrong on Pearls part saying Steven hates to be compared to his mom because he is his own person. Pink Steven was a result of White Diamond ripping his gem from his stomach in hopes Pink would reform, that doesn't work, at all, and instead we see the first appearance of Pink Steven. Pink Steven pops up more around the show like in like in Steven Universe Future, in the episode Fragments (Season 1 Episode 9 I believe) he shatters Jasper as a result of going to far with his new ✨Pink Powers✨ but he is able to heal her back and Jasper calls him "My Diamond" the reason for this is The Diamonds would create gems and they would be The Diamonds humble servants and they would call The Diamonds their Diamonds like in Steven Universe, in the episode A Single Pale Rose (I forgot the episode sorry if you know it pls say in the replies) Rose transforms back into Pink, that results in Pearl calling Pink "My Diamond". *GARNET/RUBY AND SAPPHIRE* Garnet is made up of two gems: Ruby and Sapphire and they hate forced fusion and chose to form Garnet by themselves and got married to show that they chose to be Garnet, and she serves and one of the main Crystal Gems. *AMETHYST* Amethyst is a gem that was originally from the Earth Kindergarten and not from Homeworld like Pearl and Garnet (Ruby and Sapphire) and serves as one of the main gems in the Crystal Gems. *PEARL* Pearl was Originally Pink Diamond's Pearl until Pink decided to form Rose Quartz. Pearl has a ton of trauma that Rose gave her like, Pearl thinking that she had to do everything for Rose and not do anything for herself and also the need to always protect her, though im pretty sure most of that came from her serving as a Diamond's Pearl, Pearl is actually the one who reveals that Rose is Pink Diamond in the first place, by taking Steven inside of her gem she reveals that Rose is Pink and that Pink's so called "Shattering" wasn't real and that it was Pearl shapeshifted into Rose Quartz and you might be asking "How didn't Pink actually shatter?" well to put things simply (I know this fricken essay isn't simple) Rose's sword can't actually shatter gems, it was made to only poof them. *BLUE DIAMOND* (blue is a very i n t e r e s t i n g character to say the least) Blue Diamond is one the main Gems in [ *insert yellow pearls voice* ] tHe GrEaT dIaMoNd AuThOrItY ( yes I am being over dramatic ) she has sympathetic tendencies along with her power that could make people feel the way she does or did, therefore having sympathetic powers. Blue is honestly my favorite Diamond ( wow im getting controversial ) but don't come at me with the torches and pitchforks ok? Blue had some meh character development in my opinion and she still kept calling STEVEN ( ya know the kid who hates being compared to his mom? ) PINK like come on Blue! *YELLOW DIAMOND* ( yellow is also and interesting character ngl ) Once again one of the main gems of [ *insert peridots voice* ] tHe oH sO gReAt DiAmONd AuThOrItY, Yellow was w e l l a pretty horrible gem ngl she had TERRIBLE character development ( but if you count ruthlessly killing gems then not character development then go off ig ) and when she and the other Diamonds got their "nice" arc she HAD NO OTHER PLOT RELEVANCE ( besides "attempting" to help Steven ) and that makes me pretty mad saying I thought she would have some good plot relevance ( Yellow has apathetic tendencies ) . *WHITE DIAMOND* ( yooooo get comfy cause this is gonna be a looooong part besties ) why, just, why, OK WELCOME TO THE FINAL PART OF THE DIAMONDS AND OF COURSE SAVING THE "best" FOR LAST. ok so white diamond. where the heck do i start? alrighty, so the last and most powerful gem of [ *insert holly blues voice* ] tHe GrEaT aNd RaDiAnT ( *carefree, Adrien the fragrance* ) aNd AlMiGhTy DIAMONDS, White probably had THE WORST CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND ABSOLUTELY NO PLOT RELEVANCE WHATSOEVER THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, aka the worst possible gem ever. She started the whole corruption thing cause they were losing control of their OWN GEMS, so of course when your childs ( Pink Diamond ) life work doesn't go as planned you decide to destroy it all? [ *IMPORTANT NOTE* ] please do not take offense to any of this its all for fun and not meant to offend anybody ] and MAKE FATAL THINGS THAT SPIT ACID? ( Centipeedle ) like c'mon woman🌺

Everyday, I think of how this show changed my life and my perspective of life and how I see things everyday. I remember being young, sitting on the couch eating popcorn waiting for that new episode in 2015. Feeling joy after seeing a new fusion or learning a new life lesson. The heartbreak I felt when I realized that.. it was actually over made me feel like the only thing keeping me sane was gone. But then realized that it’s people like you that keep the memory of the show alive and going. Loving something like a show taught me that things come and go, but it will always be in your heart.
People saying “it’s just a cartoon” or “it’s for kids” don’t realize that it helps people understand their feelings and that it’s not just a “show”. I personally had my life changed by Steven and will forever have references of Steven in my life to remind me of the old days when we were all happy about a new episode :)

Been a while this video was released and Steven Universe ended, just wanted to say that despite the simp jokes and horrible comments on Rose and Pearl. It always felt like both ends were burning, Rose was focused on everything not everyone, Pearl couldn't handle being herself near her. Everything this show and the movie went through felt like it was apart of real life routines as if this show grew up with you and it basically did and I think that's the saddest thing this show had to offer

I believe that after what happened to her original Pearl, Rose never truly got attached to her second Pearl. Like I get the feeling she misses her original Pearl and the second Pearl was given to her to replace Pink Pearl but you can't just replace people you care about like that. And yeah, our Pearl came to love Rose, but Pearls are literally programmed to be obedient to their masters, why would Rose consider Pearl's feelings anything more than just her programming, Pearl only loved Rose because she was made to be Pink Diamond's Pearl, and Rose wanted nothing to do with how homeworld did things. Is it any wonder Rose fell in love with Greg? Greg wasn't put on this earth to love Rose but he chose her anyways, Greg had the freedom to make that choice

And that thing is she reminds me to myself. I mean I’m not a magical space Humanoid Diamond who started a war,but when the show started to show rose.. I like.. kinda wanted to be like her,Kind,sweet and “perfect”.
And by being like her,believe it or not,I made lots of mistakes. I lost so much friends but I always keep smiling and being kind.
The things I made while trying to be like her.. jeez.. they are things that I’m not proud for and somehow.. I always manage to scape all those problems without being hurt Physically.. but i was a mess Emotionally..

Steven Universe was a show I was very late to watch, as I have my full sense of reality and the real world, I realized how hard it is for all types of characters in the show, and I find some very emotional, but Pearl has a vibe that somehow seems like she wants Rose/Pink back, but theres only Steven
The first time I watched Steven Universe I thought Pearl’s “obsession” was annoying. The second time through I really tried to understand her, and I did. I realized that once you have someone in your life that truly makes you happy, you’d do anything to keep them safe. You wake up and you only ever think about them and how they’re doing. The emotions you feel are for them and are because of them. Putting someone in such high standards only to have them suddenly ripped away from you sounds like the most tragic and heartbreaking thing in the world. Being so close to them, you only ever knew how to live for them and now they’re gone. Everything that was ever meaningful in your life is now missing. Suddenly just being yourself is the hardest thing in the world, because the only thing that made you feel even remotely content will never return to you again. In the beginning Pearl was so misunderstood and now every time she cries or feels pain my heart hurts

It’s just something about where you have this love towards someone and it’s the love you don’t feel towards anyone and when they change or act as if they wasn’t what you had knew of from the start it really hurts :,) and when that pain doesn’t get any closure the pain it simmers down but it forever remains. it’s aching

he reminds you so much of her, you sometimes wonder if she can see you through his eyes. he's so much like her, he sees beauty in everything, he's sympathetic, kind, bubbly, smart, loving, he loves animals, he loves ice cream, he's perfect, he's the what gives you the motivation to get up in the morning. you finally feel happy

I always feel like Pearl has a vhs tape of Rose. In her consciousness, the vhs tape is all static. With mellow skies and her and rose dancing in the sunset on the beach. But the tape will freeze because it never happened. Pearl would sit there and stare at the tape. And act like Rose is still there.

I think that pearl might be an even more tragic character than Azula. Yeah, Azula's brainwashing by her father and unloved feelings about her mother are really sad and warped her into the worst way possible, but she was never a prisoner and slave of love for thousands of years, and that's a fucking fact!!! 🥺😭🤧😠🙁😢😔

Most people forget that though she sucked and made deplorable decisions, she still made that video tape to steven, and she isn't exactly who she used to be--so they treat her character like she's still pink diamond (though I'm not trying to excuse the abuse she put everyone through, what I mean is she did her best to grow and change)

Honestly I see a lot of 14 years older Steven,because of his mom. Since he was a little child they told him stories about her,he wanted to met her but...he couldn't.
That reminds me with my grandparents,my dad's parents,I never knew them,but I wish I could met them,somehow...and some of my father's relatives told me that I have the same face as my grandma,like they told Steven that he's like his mother...I see myself in him since I was 8.

I remember how I only found this video when I was little and was struggling when I was 11 (family issues), I am 16 now, and this video causes the same goosebumps as it did before. I can't believe still that the show has ended.This video is very dear to me, thank you.
I just finished watching the whole series with my daughter, and at first Pearl was my least favorite of the Crystal Gems, but by the end she was my favorite of all the gems. I love her so much. She is such a deep character
