I think what's so deep about this is that it's his first love. The person we all imagined being with till the end, till death. When you realize that first love is a pipe dream it hurts to get over it but you do and you never forget it. For Finn I especially sympathize, because even after getting over it, he never really got over it.

Jake saying “do you have any idea how much he’s cried over you!?” Really hit deep.
It's funny looking back, she was really talking about Marceline. Her responsibilities caused her to push the one person away who understood her. Finn was a child when he fell for her, and he fell for an idealized, unrealistic version of her. Perfect, beautiful, responsible, she always knows what to do, etc. When in reality she's a lot more morally grey, chaotic and controlling. Marceline was able to see through that and pull her out of it when they were together.

The fact that PB never outright says she isn't jealous is an interesting part of her character that I think gets overlooked in this episode.
She clearly doesn't love Finn the same way he used to love her, but she also has a connection to Finn that (in her mind) may be jeapordized by other relationships in Finn's life. She may very well be jealous, not because she can't date Finn, but because she is no longer the most important princess in Finn's life. This could also (as other comments have pointed out) be PB projecting some of her regrets over her past relationship with Marceline onto her current relationship with Finn and "losing" him to Flame Princess.
It seems less like a "romantic" jealousy, and more like a "losing my close friend to someone else" jealousy. It's a very nuanced feeling for PB to demonstrate, and I'm glad they kinda left it open enough to be interpreted that way.

for one of the strangest shows on cartoon network, these characters were some of the most believable i've ever seen

she also kinda brought alot of things on herself i honestly think she one of the characters you can look into more not just for lighthearted traits but the kind that you only know from stories that show both sides light and dark.
Honestly the character development in this show is impeccable, especially Finn. Just look at how he was in the first episode, some immature and goofy 13 year old, and then remember all the fights he's been through and trauma with his dad and dealing with loss and heartbreak, and the shit with his arm, his ever-growing bond with Jake, how he became such an amazing character by the end of the show. Honestly one of my top favorite characters of all time.

@@AzureRadio ya she was truly very manipulative to Finn in truth. he just became so fraking depressed when he realized Pb didn't love him back and I would have reacted in the same way because it's just... messed up, doing that to someone you care about even if it's only a little, it breaks them. It's like reeling in a worm after throwing it into the water, convincing it that they wouldn't throw the worm back in, but throws the worm back in the water anyway.
