    For me, last fall, the mistakes I made were underestimating how much grass seed the birds in my area could gobble up, and trying to throw more seed down in my remaining bare spots when the soil temps were already dropping too low, so I wasted some seed. Spring overseed helped, but I gotta deal with some poa annua now. I'm in the overseed or use prodiamine conundrum lol. I'm relatively happy with the thickness so I'm gonna try the pre-emergent.

    Couple questions
    1. Is it too late to overseed this year? (Fellow Midwesterner, avg temp will be 55 for the next month, looking to use black beauty)
    2. Thoughts on poor man's roller, large piece of cardboard with barbell weighs on it?
    3. Best soil to use as topdress?

      Thanks!
      1. yes its too late for black beauty BUT you have a shot of seeding some pure perennial ryegrass and making it through the winter but its gotta be put down ASAP
      2. i think the poor man roller its great, use what you got! no worries
      3. best soil is potting mix BUT its very expensive

    It's a whole different ballgame for me because I have almost 50,000 square feet of lawn to de-thatch, aerate, put down herbicide (I will be using Tenacity), etc. It's very expensive and very time-consuming. Furthermore, it's our first year in our new home and with a yard this big, so it's going to present some challenges. I crawled on my hands and knees through the entire lawn and pulled all the dandelions out by hand down to the root. I have not had any dandelion problems since, but now it's the wild violets, crabgrass, and clover. I think I'm going to buy a tow-behind sprayer for my tractor and try to find a tow-behind aerator as well. This is not going to be a fast project by any stretch of the imagination. LOL

    I put down Johnathan Green Black Beauty Ultra Supreme Grass Seed Blend on my lawn the day before yesterday. The next day, I sprayed it with Tenacity. I was supposed to only use a half-teaspoon of Tenacity, but I used a teaspoon.
    The grass seed is supposed to take one to two weeks to sprout. Can I try putting more of this grass seed down if after about ten days only a little bit, but not all of the grass sprouts or do I have to wait longer for the Tenacity to dissipate?
    I am deeply depressed.

    Found your channel accidently but loved it and binging on it. I bought a new home 4 months back and the backyard and front lawn were just mulched, no weed fabric under it. Now its full of overgrown weeds. I will cut and then put round up to clear up the weeds. Since I have mulch, if I want to throw in weed and seed from scotts, should I remove the mulch?

    • @PrincessCutLawnCare
      @PrincessCutLawnCare  Před 2 lety +1

      Great to hear!
      Congrats on the new home 🎉
      I’m order to stop the weeds in the mulch beds you will have to apply a preemmergent which will prevent them from growing. A popular one is called preen, you can get it at Walmart. Apply it every spring and fall and it will take care of most of the weeds. For the few that still come just spot spray them with round up and you be all good

    • @PrincessCutLawnCare
      @PrincessCutLawnCare  Před 2 lety

      Also I noticed you said weed and seed, were you thinking about replacing the mulch with grass seed?

    • @pretty95138
      @pretty95138 Před 2 lety

      @@PrincessCutLawnCare yea was thinking to remove the mulch and add grass seeds instead, but use a preemergent before that. And at some places like garden beds, remove the mulch and add a weed fabric and reapply mulch. Is fabric needed if I use preemergent in garden beds? I used roundup weed kill today and nothing has happened so far? Is round up also preemergent? Thanks a lot for replying.

    I like to verticut instead of aerating. I don't have a roller but spread a thin layer of compost on top. I normally don't over seed, if I have a problem area I kill everything and start fresh. Also recommend watering twice anday for a week then ince a day for another week till you see growth.

    Always used milorganite when over-seeding or repairing thin spots. Seems to make it come up faster than using just water. Any thoughts? Never heard about the phosphorus stuff but may give it a try. Also used pelletized ag lime a few weeks before fall over-seeding to make sure my ph was good.
