You completely nailed your analysis on the game. The middle is completely void of anything progressive. Everything is so slow and predictable with our lines so disconnected. The amount of stupid mindless fouls and passes all year has been comical. When we actually break through the midfield and get moving through the wings we become very dangerous but it seems like an impossible task at times today. RLC and Giroud offer so much in the offensive box but when it comes to connecting lines and space clearing movement they just don’t have the speed. Reinders needs to start, he and Musah are the only ones who can receive the ball and break lines through burst speed. With all that being said today was a massive win and with all the awful play against Lazio and Atalanta we only let up one goal and zero in run of play. Imagine what we could do with a proper back line. Kjaer cannot continue to start it needs to be Gabbia and Tomori.

I genuinely cannot understand what anybody sees in musah. He cannot keep the ball, he's wreckless with his passing, he lacks vision.. I can understand American guys supporting their player, but its of no interest to the team if he's not up to standard.

@@marcuspierantozzi who said he’s been good? I said he and Reinders offers something in the midfield that the others don’t which is the ability to drive the ball forward through the dribble.I said Reinders needs to start not Musah so don’t go insinuating with your strange hatred for a kid who is obviously one for the future. I don’t see any Americans on here crying for him to start or even talking about him. So go troll someone else because true Milan fans don’t try and insult players when it’s not necessary. Musah has been decent off the bench coming in last against monza and immediately made a difference breaking lines with his dribble. I don’t want him starting but don’t go acting like Bennacer and Aldi are just knocking em dead week in and week out.

It was our worst match since the derby. We barely passed the half at the first time but sometimes we can have luck. But still, not many positive points from last games. Regarding Pulisic, IMO he was the best - always trying to run and steal the ball that made the first red card. 100% This is the problem with fútbol fans today. Especially young fans. Of course not all but some. They will say a player is non existent if he’s not on the score sheet. They don’t understand the intricacies of how a player impacts the game outside of goals and assist. How a player attacks open spaces, how they can create chances for his teammates, his movement off the ball, the way he draws defenders in with the ball to set up another player to either assist or get a goal.
You get that with Pulisic. Regardless if he doesn’t score or assist he’s going to impact the game either way, offensively or defensively. He would have double digit assist and goals at this point if his teammates finished some of the chances he created for them or if certain players, particularly the midfield, were quicker to react to Pulisic making late runs into the box or going for the pass when Pulisic was clearly open.
And for those who do not know, you cannot OUT-CONCACAF Pulisic. You will learn the hard way 😂

Okafor kissing the emblem and RLC running to push Pellegrini off Pulisic, along with everyone else defending Pulisic really brought me happiness. I believe this season has presented us every possible bad scenario. Sometimes we win sometimes we lose, sometimes we play good sometimes we are awful. However, all those situations are bringing the players together and creating trust that has not been there all season. With a few changes in the summer and the majority of the core team intact I predict a 20+ unbeaten streak in all competitions. This season is just preparing and shaping our players we have 8 new signings! I am excited to finish out Europa league and see how great we can be next season.

Lazio pushed everything wide as you pointed out so he had few options. One thing Pulisic does that Leao and Theo did more today is drive the ball into the middle to have an attack at least start more central.

Great analysis! I've said many times Milan's midfield is lacking taking the ball in the middle of the field. Now, Lazio flooded the center of the field and Pioli made a change at halftime having Leao and Pulisic tuck in more to help out the midfield. It's hard to judge Giroud when he gets very little service. Playing a 4-4-2 allowed for Milan to have 3 big players in the box. Regard Leao, someimes the way the midfield plays when he gets the ball he has nowhere to go. Also, Pelligrino miskicks the ball before then having to take it with his feet on the sidelines. Playing in Seria A do just fall over often when the play isn't going their way.

Happy for the win, but man we looked like crap the entire match. We look bad too consistently for me to just blame the players. The team has no idea what they're doing, how to attack, how to defend, how to adjust, how to do anything to be honest. This is a result of very bad coaching. The players are clueless and lack confidence as a result. I just don't see Milan ever being anything other than slightly above average as long as Pioli is the coach. Dude has no other tactics other than to hope and pray for a miracle.

  • @TheFergo911
    @TheFergo911 Před 2 měsíci

the reason Milan aren't creating much from the midfield is mostly tactics. The players are there, but defensively, the midfield is poor which is why Pioli is using a double pivot. A double pivot, Milan has used this before with better defensive midfielders and they still didn't create all that much. I believe Pioli knows that Milan is a very poor team when defending which is why they play the game slow and not quick, it seems to me like the team doesn't want to be getting injuries from having to constantly run back when they loss possession, and this happens when they quicken the pace. Lazio is never going down easy, they will run for every ball and carve out a goal from the smallest of chances, so being slow and picking your moment to quicken the pace to score a goal is smart. But overall the midfield and the tactics aren't allowing the team to seem in control of a game which is the problem. This is down to tactics and a part of it is down to not having the player to do defensive work in the midfield.

For Kjaer’s entire tenure, his long balls are usually really really good. Probably one of the best in Serie A for his accuracy when it comes to central defenders. Just didn’t work this match. But you can see why he did it. Lazio has a crazy high press and putting it up quickly is smart. Just didn’t work this time. I don’t remember a time where Gabbia was good on 1v1s. He’s good with his positioning and interceptions but if he doesn’t win the ball proactively, he’s not the best reactively. Unlike Tomori who is amazing in reactive situations. Same with Theo actually lol.
Aldi was bad today but in general he’s been good. Going to wait to judge him until I see it consistently. This was a fluke for the most part. Also, he was put in a tough position; all his support pushed way too high up the field. As soon as Bennecer dropped back deeper Aldi had a better game. Bennecer looked off today. I can’t explain it. Normally, no one can get the ball off his feet. This match he just seemed lost. I worry about Reijnders in a double pivot. Defensively, he’s not great; positioning, interceptions, strength, tackling, he just doesn’t have those qualities. We simply don’t have a defensive midfielder.
I also don’t really see an issue with attacking through the wings. The ownership didn’t give us a playmaker nor a true defensive midfielder. We have a bunch of support players in the midfield. When you don’t have a true playmaker then you attack with the wings. It’s a pretty standard approach. We need someone better in RB and our wing play would be complete. Remember, Reijnders was just fresh. Very often he isn’t getting assists and isn’t providing the cutting edge. It was just good timing. Until we see him consistently unlocking doors we shouldn’t give him too much credit.
Pulisic was solid! A little rusty in the beginning, lost the ball a few times but had a fire lit under his ass. Plus he caused two of the three red cards which is just hilarious. 😂 When it comes to Pulisic’s defensive effort as you pointed out, I say the same about Giroud. Giroud knows how to position himself well to help the high press. I notice immediately when he’s not there and we press high that there’s something missing. Giroud and Pulisic put a lot of effort into their defensive duties.
The second red card was for verbal abuse according to the commentators I was listening to but that’s all that was said unfortunately. The third red is questionable to me but he did shove Pulisic after the play ended. It wasn’t a tactical foul. It wasn’t part of the game. It was purely because he lost his head. Could have been a yellow and no one would have batted an eye. But can totally understand the red card. As for Mike, it definitely wasn’t a foul. Normally you’d call that a late challenge but he got the ball long before he got the player. Insane to call it a penalty. Glad it wasn’t.
Okafor nailed it. Very happy he scored. He seems like a pure striker. Not great on the wing in the Serie A. Giroud should have scored for sure. Leao was shut out of the game. It’s something we have to get used to. Teams just double and triple up on him. He needs to add something to his game to figure out how to beat these 1v2 or 1v3 situations. It’s difficult but it would elevate him to insane heights.
I’m not really sure how to blame Pioli on this one. Lazio came out to foul Milan. It was a dirty game. We play a quick, direct style of football. The way to stop it is to foul the shit out of the team which is what Lazio did. And without a tried and true playmaker we have little ways to combat that style of play. He probably could have done better on the subs, so I’d agree there.

I disagree with your Adli criticism. He's the only midfielder Milan have that actually plays the ball forward with his passing. He's been inconsistent but he needs time. And especially he needs a kessie type next to him to be the destroyer, which will allow Ruben or Reijnders to make the forward runs. I think the way the team is structured is not good for Pioli's double pivot. This team would be better suited as a flat 4-3-3.

Milan were absolutely atrocious against Lazio. Milan has no midfield, Ruben is way to up and down and I am sorry but he is not an attacking midfielder. He has good finishing and some good technical ability but is not good enough at facilitation and dribbling. Today he stayed very high up the pitch and never dropped into the 2nd third.
Gabbia is a good defender he has improved so much but should not have been paired with Kjaer. Pioli had an opportunity to test Tomori and Gabbia as a unit today and failed. Pioli always misses the small details and those small details prevent him from being great. His accountability is also missing.
Adli was extremely poor today, he has a long way to go when it comes to being a regista. In my opinion Loftus cheek should have been subbed for Rejinders because of his creativity. Bennacer should be the anchor and Adli should play box to box more than Bennacer.
Because we have such a terrible midfield, it is difficult for Milan to transition the ball effectively and properly bring out all the production that our attack can give us.
That leaves Giroud, because of the way Giroud plays defenders are happy to play close to him because of his age they know he is limited in his attacking acumen. This limits Milan, Jovic is excellent in his position because he will drop into a 9 position and act as almost an attacking midfielder allowing much more attacking football and creative football to come forth. Pioli has been a great coach in so much that he has taken nothing and produced something. He has brought Milan to a great point of stabilization in their rebuild and even exceeded that by winning a title and getting to the semi-final in the champions league. However, it is time for him to go. There is only one coach that we should be thinking about bringing in at this point and that is Thiago Motta.
Hopefully we will see some change in the next transfer window. Chuckweze has to be sold. He is piss poor if he is not in a unit that is not running as a well oiled machine and needs that midfield threat to cover his shortcomings. Regardless we bleed red and black

When i think of Milan i think of players like Baresi, Maldini, Gullit, van Basten, Pirlo, Kaka, Gattuso, Costacurta, Seedorf, Shevchenko, Nesta, Dida, Stam, Cafu, Ronaldinho, Inzaghi, Weah.. the list could go on.. not one of our players today is of the calibre of the guys i mentioned! NOT ONE! Its a miracle Pioli had managed to achieve what he has with our current team. 90% of you "Milanisti" have no idea of our herritage, our history, the legacy past players have left us. Star players from our past played for our club for 20 seasons, won multiple trophies and titles, retired jerseys.. our current "star player" seems more interested in his music career, books and fashion. Our midfield is completely lost, nobody knows where to pass and when, everyone dribbles to the point that it becomes the only way to push the ball forward. Adli always takes 3 touches more than needed and he tries to dribble past people when he drops in defence to take the ball forward, often loosing it, he is not reliable as DM. No patterns of play in midfield whatsoever, and it has been like this whole season, this coach implemented nothing since the begining of the season. If we had less capable dribblers in the team we would probably been 10th.

Exactly. That’s why it’s just so baffling to me as to why Pioli is so insistent on playing Christian as a RWF instead of having him play the 10 role which he could be a much more effective player in all aspects.

Totally agree on your commentary and analysis. This team desperately need Tomori back and a high quality right back. I will add --again- and ask for a true defensive midfielder for Christmas. Riejnders is our best midfielder, but he has some quality roaming forward, so why limit him.
This team's poor defensive quality from the midfield back really makes them VERY TOUGH to watch. Frustrating in fact.

To be fair even Pep gets i5 wrong at times and he’s considered one of the best when it comes to tactics. That being said, Pioli is not a tactician although at times he gets it right. When we’re all certain Pioli out he makes us doubt whether he should stay or not by one good performance. But then we’re back to where we started after those games. That’s an abusive relationship I no longer want to be in. Many times I’m watching Milan play and I get bored. Slow and static. We definitely need a more forward thinking manager. It’s weird that he’s wiling to try Theo as CB but not Pulisic playing behind Giroud. I believe we’ll have more creativity as well.

We are scoring goals so you can’t really say that Pioli has no idea on how to consistently attack. Where Pioli has to take his share of the blame is our defensive record on the season with the amount of goals that the team has conceded in the league. Today’s game was just a scrappy game and we finished our chances when opportunities came.

@@mondaymusa9694 These goals don’t have to be wow goals all the time and I don’t really care what side of the attacking front are creating quality chances for goals as long as these goals are in the back of the net and overall in terms of scoring goals on the season we are one of the top teams in the league. If you take a look at why we are not winning the scudetto is because of our defensive record with the amount of goals we have conceded on the season, especially against the lower half sides on the table and that is more concerning for me and that’s where Pioli deserves his share of the blame along with the players. Also, Pioli doesn’t care what you or I think about him as a person and as a coach as long as the players want to fight for him which is more important.
