- Bonus: Ep. 162 1/2 MAKING AN EASY BUTTERFLY MOSAIC FROM DONATED GLASS!
I start with a chunky butterfly wood cutout from a craft store. I have already primed it with Kilz primer on the front. My plan is to use some pretty donated glass pieces in yellows, pinks and oranges with white glass pebbles on the edges.
0:53 I get after it, starting with yellow near the center. I am using Weldbond adhesive. I quickly sketch a wing to use as a guideline.
This is a super fun and easy project and I love using this donated glass! When I get to the edges, I switch to E6000 to hold the pebbles.
4:01 Gluing the pieces on took about an hour, but I have to wait until the next day to grout. I use black sanded grout and spread it with a Kemper blue finishing rubber. I have to be careful of the edges since I didn't tape it off!
5:27 I go to my storage area to get beads and find that I already had two chunky butterflies!
6:04 Now I use Apoxie Sculpt to attach the head and beads for the antenna. I have two star millefiori that are perfect for the ends of the antenna! Then I add faceted black beads to the body and edge with smaller black beads.
It looks gorgeous near my flowers, but this one will be displayed inside.
That's Putting It Together, Bonus Ep. 162 1/2 Thanks for watching! See you next time!

Beautiful. At first I thought ... well ... ok ... but after grouting I went "Wow!" :)
Grouting was a nice metamorphosis into a butterfly!
Supper ❤❤
Thanks 🤗
I LOVE this ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Stunning. 👏 🦋
Thank you! Cheers!
Love this so much!!!
Thank you!
You make it look so easy.
LOL. This one is pretty easy. I think starting with the pre-cut donation glass helped!
Great work ❤
Thanks ✌️
Beautiful

That black grout made it all pop, just beautiful!!
Thanks so much, Lisa!!!
😍😍😍

I have one of the same substrate and am so excited to do something with it now. Thanks for the idea!
Have fun! At least you remembered you bought it!
So beautiful I want to make one but put light to it.❤
That sounds beautiful!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
❤❤❤
😊😊😊
Very pretty
Thank you! 😊
I was all a giggle when you posted the part of the butterfly blocks in hiding. I think we've all done that. Almost bought some more blue glass but found some that got buried in an outside storage box. Love the butterfly. Thanks again for sharing and all of the art you inspire.
I barely made a dent in the donated glass, so I can make more for sure!
Such a beautiful mosaic butterfly and the white glass pebbles set the colours off beautifully. 😊
Thank you so much Peter! 😊
The colour selection is stunning! Glad I’m not the only one who forgets what they have in their stash!
Right?!? I have plenty of that donated glass left, so maybe I'll make the other two.
Very pretty, the black grout changed the whole look of it 👍👍👍
Right? Now the white pebbles are poppin'!
The beads for the body and antennas really brought it together! ❤
Love me some faceted beads!

Thanks for the extra show!!! Wonderful never enough butterflies!! 💖💖🎶🎶
Glad you enjoyed it! Never enough flowers either! 🌸🌺🌷
Your bonus video is a bonus to my day!!! A very happy surprise thanks😍
I'm so glad!
Love your butterfly. The black grout really makes the colors pop. The beads give the butterfly nice dimension. Thank you for your video. Really enjoyed.
Thank you, Cindy!
BONANZA 🦋 - That's what is called Best from Waste i.e. creating beautiful art from leftovers!!! And it looked so pretty when you held it in the backdrop of the pink flowers amidst bright green foliage 😍
Thank you so much 😊 Too bad it's for indoor display!
Indoors too it can always be staged in some kind of floral/leafy arrangement if you please ! With all the greenery you have and your talent, I am sure you could come up with a tray garden 🙂
I LOVE it when you post bonus videos!! What a great mid-week treat! Thank you so much, Julie. This butterfly is GORGEOUS!!! You are one seriously talented and inspiring artist. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much! I LOVE this comment. Keeps me going...
Thanks for the bonus video! Love watching you work. Just amazed how quickly you finished this project. Ever mosaic any fish? Would love to see what your creative juices would come up with.
I made a tropical fish commission on mesh a while back. I start it in this video: czcams.com/video/U4rj_ygvaG8/video.html
Thanks for directing me to that fish video-I hadn’t watched that one yet-the blue for the body is stunning!
What a treat to see a bonus video!!! And yes, I've bought things only to find that I already had them in my stash😀 Love the butterfly 🦋
Yay! Thank you! I guess I'll make more like this since I have more of those donated pieces!
Bellisima esa mariposa monarca!!!
Thank you so much! I'm not sure that pink, yellow and orange qualify as a monarch butterfly, but I love them!
So pretty and having all that beautiful glass really helps.
Yes it does! Thanks so much!
How pretty!!
Where do you get the miniature white glass pebbles from?
I can’t find them anywhere. It really pops with the white pebbles.
Thank you for your awesome videos! So enjoyable to watch. 😊
They are from Hobby Lobby. www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Mosaics/Mosaic-Pieces/White-Glass-Mosaic-Pebbles/p/80808370
Thank you!! I searched HL website and did not see these.
Can’t wait to make one of these and the white pebbles are perfect.
They simplify that edge tremendously. Nothing funky to cut!
Beautiful colors on this! Can I ask what adhesive you used on the white pebbles?
I try to put that info in the video description. It’s E6000.
Whoops, sorry I missed it.
No problem!
