  • Ep. 83 THE DRAGONFLY MOSAIC and a look at two mosaics in downtown Roswell, GA.
This week was I focused on ONE project - The Dragonfly Mosaic I am making to give my sister-in-law! I show examples of Opus Vermiculatum using the keystoning technique. Then I spend plenty of time using Opus Palladium to fill in the background of the mosaic. I did take a break to visit two mosaics close to home; Jennifer Freeman's Heart of Roswell mosaic bench and the RosWall. Then back to my studio for more of the crazy paving background with an easy tip for blending colors to create a beautiful mosaic gradation.
I am making the dragonfly mosaic in memory of my nephew that passed away. It is for my sister-in-law and I am using materials that are suitable for exterior placement so she can hang it where ever she wants. The base is GoBoard, prepped with hanging hardware and edges wrapped with alkali resistant fiberglass tape and coated with thinset. The adhesive is GE Silicone II for exterior.

wow, I love the way you have a vision and just go for it and we see it materialize into art. This piece reminded me a little of your " SPRING" piece, which is one of my favorites. I did love the way you describe the grass at the bottom and the energy it creates, and you want this memorial piece to be calming, so maybe another dragonfly with grass will be in the works down the road! Thanks for reminding us about the squinting! and thank you for sharing all your tricks and tips in such detail! Amazing talent and knowledge!!! ❤️

Dragon fly evolving beautifully - the background is beautifully flowing out from the dragonfly 😍. The Roswell Heart is beautiful visually, figuratively and literally. The Roswall too as it reflects the efforts of so many people a especially the children and the desilvering of the mirrors pieces actually adds character and lends it an antique look.
