Popularity? the Hallelujah video has over 600 million views and they have won 3 Grammys; Including one with Dolly Parton and the song "Jolene". There are many suggestions below from fellow fans(embraced lovingly by the group as Pentaholics) of their other songs AND a singing competition in 2011 on NBC's Sing-off. There is a ton of their music for you to sift through!

In this cover, they lean on their harmonies, which are out of this world, but they sometimes do instruments sounds, like in their Bohemian Rhapsody cover. They can even do synthesizer effects, like in their Daft Punk medley.
It's insane how talented they are!

I noticed the star wars collectables in your background. Take a look at The Star Wars tribute by Pentatonix at the 2015 AMAs. Its phenomenal. Great reaction. And my favorites is Sound of Silence and Amazing Grace, they keep getting better and better.

This is a cappella and they are one of the very best a cappella groups in the world. How popular are they? Hundreds of videos in the last ten years with a total of over 16 billion views! Three Grammy Awards and numerous platinum-selling albums. This song was also my introduction to Pentatonix and I was instantly hooked. I've been a devoted Pentaholic ever since!! Pentatonix is one helluva rabbit hole to go down into. Enjoy the ride!

  • @melissiadalejones-smith1855

Four out of the five actually sang. Scott sang first (blonde hair). Avi was next, he is the bass. Kirsty is the girl, and Mitch with the high vocals. Kevin is the beatboxer.

  • @juliestevens6931
    @juliestevens6931 Před 3 lety +2

Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (no words), Jolene ft. Dolly Parton (3 VERY different pieces). Each won a Grammy. Amazing Grace (all 5 sing - different bass, but everyone else the same), Bohemian Rhapsody, Sing! (original), Imagine, Run to You (original). There are hundreds of pieces to choose from. Each one has done their own thing. If you want to really learn about them, start with Season 3 of the Sing-Off back in 2011. That is where the group of 5 (penta for the pentonics scale) joined up for the first time. The "trio" - Scott, the tall blond, Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty), and Mitch (guy with hat and angelic high tenor) pretty much grew up together. When they went to try out for the Sing-Off they knew they needed a bass so a friend (of a friend?) knew Avi (the guy with the beard) as a great bass in the a cappella community and suggested him to Scott. Scott then saw Kevin (the beatboxer) on CZcams beatboxing and playing the cello at the same time (celloboxing as Kevin calls it) and knew he was just the last piece to their puzzle. They all met just a day or two before the audition! The rest, as they say, is history. You really need to dive deep down this rabbit hole. They are considered by many to be THE a cappella group.

This type of singing group is called A Capella, which means no instruments (similar to Barber-Shop Quartets). The tall blond guy is Scott Hoying-Baritone; the girl is Kirsten Maldonado, Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi, Counter-Tenor; the bearded guy with the turban is Avi Kaplan, Basso-Profundo; the Beatboxer is Kevin Olusola, Tenor/Cellist/Cellist beatboxer. The video was shot in the California Mojave Desert. Penta is Latin for 5 - Tonix is tones...sooo, 5Tones or Pentatonix, affectionately known as PTX. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch met in a high school in Arlington, TX (between Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX). After graduation they went to different colleges but got back together for a TV competition called "Sing-Off," but 5 person groups were required, so Avi and Kevin came on-board from referrals. If you are familiar with Simon and Garfunkel of the '60s, they composed "Sound of Silence." PTX sang their version of "Sound of Silence."

This is a Capella music. All of them sang sections in this one except for Kevin, because he was busy beatboxing :-) He does indeed sound like instruments in many of their songs. You’ll get a whole lot of Pentatonix requests now ... as the Pentaholics descend.
Avi (long hair and beard is the very deep bass), Mitch’s highs always surprise everyone. I would recommend Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine or Daft Punk next, or Sound of Silence (with the new bass Matt)

They’ve won three Grammys. The first one was for Daft Punk. The bass was the guy with the beard (Avi) except when he was singing then it was the tall blonde guy (Scott). In newer videos Avi is replaced by Matt (Avi left amicably to spend time with his family). Everyone else is the same although Kirstie snd Mitch (brimmed hat) look different all the time.

There were four of them singing - Scott (tall blond baritone), Avi ("AH-vee" - bearded dark-haired bass), Kirsten (mezzo-soprano), and Mitch ("the guy with the hat" - tenor). Kevin (beat boxer) actually has a very sweet tenor and sings in some of the other songs. Note that Mitch and Kirstie change their looks often, but you will know them by their voices. Avi had to leave the group for personal reasons in 2017; the new bass on their more recent videos is Matt Sallee.

Shortly before he passed Leonard Cohen, the gentleman who wrote the song, heard Pentatonix cover of his song. He said that it was the best cover he had ever heard of his song.
To hear their insane harmonies React to imagine And Mary did you know. Both of them they put up what is called a Wall of sound. Imagine is A song That applies to today just as much as it did when it was written. Pentatonix takes such a powerful song and makes it even more powerful

First was the baritone, Scott Hoying, then the bass profundo, Avi (pronounced Aahh Vee) Kaplan, Kirsten Maldonado(Mezzo Soprano) and Mitch Grassi(Tenor). The 5th is the beat boxer extraordinaire, Kevin Olusola. You can also check out their live performance (Christmas Special 2016) at czcams.com/video/LRP8d7hhpoQ/video.html You will be blown away. This band has won 3 Grammy awards in their earlier years. You would like their covers too i.e. John Lennon's Imagine, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk Medley (1st Grammy), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy(2nd Grammy) and so many more including originals like Love again, Sing and Run to you. Lots of Holiday music as well. This band is sensationally talented and creative. They support one another so beautifully. Kevin, the beatboxer, doesn't sing his own part in this one, but listen to Sound of Silence, and you'll find he's got a great voice too. Avi, the bass, (bearded one) is not in that video (Sound of Silence as he left the group and was replaced by Matt) does the bass but Scott (the blond one) sings bass when Avi sings. Mitch (the high pitch one with the round hat) has a great voice and he and Kirsten change their appearances in just about every video there is. They are fantastic individually and collectively. BTW, in this video, they (Scott started, then Avi, then Kirsten, then Mitch) all sang their parts except Kevin.

There are zero instruments. Even the back drums and the drops are all vocals. Great reaction ❤

Great review. I just subscribed. Word of caution though. When reviewing Pentatonix, you will need to add more pauses, filters, and/or commentary during the song. Otherwise, the copyright overseers may get you.
This music is a cappella. When they do use the rare instrument (usually Kelvin’s cello), it will be prominently displayed. All other musical effects are done solely by their voices.
Mitch’s high voice catches everyone off guard. The bass here is Avi (replaced by Matt in 2017). Scott (the first singer) is a baritone but has a bass to tenor range. He does the bass when the regular bass is singing. Kevin is a world class beatboxer, world class cello player, and tenor.
Kirstin is an amazing singer and and many consider her the glue that holds the whole group together. Check out “Rather Be” too hear her great range.
