I stock up on fmj. If it’s good enough for the military it’s good enough for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still like to keep a fair amount of hollow points, but for stockpiling it’s fmj. In a real SHTF scenario I don’t think I’ll be worried about over penetration.

Thank you! Very helpful. I’ve had girlfriends who have tried to convince me to shoot with them for years. Something kept nagging at me recently before all this COVID-19 stuff hit to take a class, so I did, and I’m glad I did now! Just purchased my first gun, have yet to be able to shoot it, but I’m excited. Can’t wait for things to get back to “normal” so I can take some additional classes and get some practice in at the range.

To new handgun owners looking at self defense ammo.. don’t get too caught up in what brand to get. In general any sort of modern hollow point is going to get the job done. If it functions in your gun. Do some research depending on what you want out of your self defense ammo such as penetration/expansion/ barrier penetration.. just please stay away from the RIP rounds.

Great video. I’ve been a gun owner for over 30 years. I own many many handguns.
I’ve had to recently face the reality that the time for gun shopping is long past. I’ll have to do with what I have which is going to be a Sig P226 .40. It’s what I have the most mags and ammo for right now.
Sadly I’ve realized that what I lack is the basic gear. I don’t have more than a single competition holster for my P226. I don’t have a decent belt anymore, don’t have decent mag carriers for the more likely scenarios currently facing us. “Stop being a collector” are words I should have listened to a long time ago.
I have a good Safariland ALS holster on order. Still looking for a belt. Still trying to figure out the Safariland QLS system(website not the best). I’ve also got a Slingster ordered for my AR, now need to get armor and plate carriers.
Living in CA and times being what they are options have been very limited and I’m late.
Learn from me. Stop shopping for new guns and gear up for what you HAVE.

MP .. you do realize most of the folks watching this are "experienced" shooters .. whatever that means to each of us .. and that they/we are going to bitch that you did not touch on our favorite thing etc etc .. **grin** .. I teach new folks .. good basic video for new shooters .. good job .. saying that .. I am going to hit on one of the things I try to push in my classes .. try to find practice ammo that shoots the same POA/POI as your carry ammo .. same grain possibly even same company .. love the emphasis on storage but I think I would have put it in another order .. ammo .. ppe (ears/eyes) .. cleaning eq .. home storage .. then branch out to carry options .. holsters .. spare mags .. mag pouches .. bottom line .. good video .. hope it finds the right audience and you do not get shot at too much .. thank you for what you do .. So you advise people to get factory mags, but then say to initially clean your new firearm to get rid of the "grease and gunk" from the factory? You do realize that's there for a reason right? For example, Glock slides from the factory come with a couple spots of, if I remember correctly, a copper based antiseize/lube.

You mean concealed IWB are not to be offer to newbies OWB Concealed level 2 low profile holster a better choice (imo) OWB level 2 safer than IWB with no retention. Level 1= I come up lift your shirt take your gun.
Level 2= i come up lift your shirt now i have a struggle to pull your firearm but i understand your point in video just saying people dont care i work armed officer and i had times where i had to deal with situations like the one im concerning about.... A new gun owner is just a person offering a free firearm to a thug... At least fight for it.

That's why the cytac I showed has the rentention device. What do you personally use?

@@MagicPrepper Safari Land GLS 578 is a good holster that accepts multiple firearms with a grip lock. It retains my Sig P226 MK25, Sig M17, HK USP 45 full size AND my HK VP9 after I did my initial adjustment to the grip lock retention screw(much like that mag pouch retention screw). Safari Land says the holster will retain hundreds of different pistols. It'll do it better and safer than the universal one you showed in your video. Check it out. As for different levels of retention fo carrying, I'd say that would depend on whether or not the firearm is being carried OWB or IWB. Just my two cents.

@@g3rman2121 There are some better universal holsters out there that is true. I haven't had any experience with the Safariland but most of their products are solid.
