So you bought your first gun? Congratulations!! In my experience a lot of new gun owners make dreadful decisions on what gear they buy to accompany their new pistol purchase. Or even worse, they just buy the firearms and think they're all set. This will serve as a guide of the some of essential gear you're going to want to invest in as a new firearm owner.
The 1911 Syndicate is a niche real estate company. No, we don't just work with clients who need off grid properties or to rent space for a gun shop. Almost all of our clients are shooters/military/LEO's/hunters and outdoorsmen who need to buy or sell a house. You should use us because we're actually good at our job, fortunately, the side bonus is that we all share a love of common interests. All of our clients get treated to custom knives when they buy their house, and private events. All of our 2019 clients got to partake in an end of year private CQB course. We operate in Utah and Arizona.

For the newbie, all you need is a gun, 200-500 rounds of ammo, safety glasses and ear plugs.
In two weeks (or next paycheck) 2-3 more mags, more ammo and a holster
Thank you.
Spot on.
A good small safe for a couple of pistols is a good item as well.
@@TommyRibs agreed!
My comment aged horribly though because of how hard it is to find some ammo
Weapon light with the holster.
This coulda saved everyone alot of time
When he said $220 for 1000 training round I almost cried remembering when it was low
Shed a tear
"1000 rounds is what we call in the gun community, a weekend." 👍
Seems like a long weekend. Maybe he’s in church on Sunday.
It’ll take me a month to afford that type of weekend but count me in guys!!!
1000 rounds is what we call in the gun community, $500-$600 in 2021
For real 😭😭😭😭
If you plan to go to the range...which you will, trust me. Get a good range bag that can carry your gun(s) a few boxes of ammo, targets, ear plugs, safety glasses, and some misc items like a stapler to staple your targets if they dont stick by themselves, pens, empty brass cases, knife, a few small tool, etc and maybe even a water bottle. A good range bag is often over looked. You can get a good one for 50-100 bucks whatever your budget or needs are. Save up each check and definitely get more mags and ammo. Buy a mag ($25 for most pistols) and a box of 50 or 100 rounds each paycheck as your budget allows until you have at least 5-6 or more mags (10-15 is good or more, lol) and 500 rounds stashed away for a rainy day (as in you wanna shoot but its not in the budget) once you get a 1500-2000 rounds put away, relax, just buy as you shoot. 500 rounds is a good starting place though seriously. Buy 100 rounds a paycheck save half, shoot the other half until you feel like you have enough at home, then like I said, just relax and buy what you need to shoot at the range any particular weekend. Don't worry about what everyone on youtube has, they have acquired those things over many years. Practice your fundamentals and marksmanship over just going to the range and doing mag dumps. But make sure to do a mag dump from time to time because it will put a smile on your face and that is part of what makes it fun. Above all else, be safe! Learn the basics of gun safety and how to properly clean your gun and all that. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire. Once you buy one, you'll want another. Bring others into the gun community, share the knowledge of being a gun owner with others. Tell them your story of why you bought a gun, and how much you enjoy it and think they will too.
I’ve found that a good hiking backpack makes a great range bag, plus it doesn’t scream “gun!!”
“Training mags”. This is new to me; quality advice right there.
Magazines do not last forever. For volume shooters, you don't want to use all of your magazines indiscriminately and carelessly. The more use a magazine has the more likely it may fail. So use magazines that you don't 'care' if they fail for the range and training only. Keep your low use/volume (less likely to fail) magazines for when you need them not to fail (i.e when at your bedside or on your person). They same can be said for having a training gun and a carry gun that are identical models; wear one out while having one with a long life ahead of it.
thanks man
I have 2 magazine that I only use for dry fired and drill manipulation. Those 2 has different color base plate or marking and is store separately from lives rounds.
See I disagree if my mag is going to break from a fall I'd rather know before I put my life in it's hands. But everything is just personal opinion really
@@99dethknight99 I love taking my daily driver to a crash in derby on the weekends. Works out awesome.
Very practical advice. Most of us started with the pistol/rifle and then added the necessities (especially training ammo/mags). The costs came as a surprise sometimes, but it was easier than starting out with $2000! While some of us obtained good training prior to purchasing personal arms, most new owners will benefit GREATLY by training and it should be considered a requirement/prerequisite to buying your first handgun.
Also need to remember to get cleaning brushes and chemicals. Maybe a range bag. Thanks for the vid, i will show this to my friend that asked me this question recently.
I would say everything you recommended is definitely essential! Really solid advice especially the part about training. I have friends that grew up around guns and have their concealed carry license but have never taken any actual training and it’s truly a shame because they have no idea what they really don’t know.
I hear u
Great video and would add one item and that is a lock box for secure and quick access.
First gun essentials.
#1 - Gun
#2 - Ammo
#3 - Snap Caps (Vital)
#4 - Ear Protection
#5 - Eye Protection
#6 - Extra Mags
#7 - A place to practice
Practice With Snap Caps before you go to the range. Never practice with live ammo. Don't go to the range blind without even knowing how to load and pull the trigger.
I would disagree on the snap caps. You can practice gun safety without them, however they cannot be a bad thing to have to see how a gun cycles normally with ammunition, although that can also be acomlished by removing the magazine.
@@mouthbreather280 Practice ghost loading or popping one in the chamber, oh wait it's impossible without live ammo or snap caps. Easily debunked your essay. Not to mention, first time shooters are dumb founded when you talk about +1 in the chamber. They cannot comprehend it without seeing it and doing it.
@@almostontimehero5415 Again, disagree. Not vital. It depends on heavily on the individul though. Also not an essay. 2 sentences (should have been 3), but I digress. "first time shooters" are not a standard fixed measurement of skill and knowledge. I knew what +1 in the chamber was years before I fired my first gun. Coming back to my initial point, all I said was I disagree it is vital, or that it is #3 on the list. If you don't agree with me or I with you, we can agree to disagree.
@@mouthbreather280 You fail to see how vital a tool that allows you to train in comfort and safety is. Being a good firearm user, owner and teacher starts way before a round is fired.
@@almostontimehero5415 I own snap caps myself... I can say with certainty it is not a vital purchase for a first time gun owner. It can help, sure. If you have no clue how a gun works, have never watched any videos or anything on guns whatsoever, then sure you could benefit from pretending to load a gun before doing it for real. But you can absolutely train in comfort and do so safely without snapcaps. That's just objective truth. You don't need to buy snap caps to be 'a good firearm user, owner'. A few CZcams videos are probably better for you than paying for snapcaps especially if you don't have a lot of extra money to spend on every accessory out there. Is it a nice to have? Absolutely. It's why I have them. Would I put it on a vital requirements list especially for those who may not be in a position to buy all the nicknacks and goodies you can possibly get for your guns? No. Snap caps fall a lot lower on the list of first gear purchases I would put together for a new firearms owner. Unless that firearm could really benefit from it say if we're talking about a rimfire or something that is not suited to being dry fired empty. Anyways, hope I've over explained myself sufficiently for you now. There's really not any further clarification to be made on my stance here. I can happily agree to disagree with you and that's fine. Nothing wrong with that. Have a good rest of your day.
I just started watching/found this channel. One of my favorites now.
Thanks!
What mr ribs said! 👆👍🏻
I know a lot of older guys that often call magazines clips. It annoys some people but in the end, as long as you know what they're referring to, what does it really matter?
My girlfriend always calls a baseball bat a stick. I know what she is referring to, but it still annoys me.
@@xxfire07 but she isn't technically wrong 😅
@@kamii_999 But when it comes to guns it is wrong. Because clips actually are a thing of their own in the world of firearms. Clips are things that feed magazines by inserting bullets into the magazine. For example one can use stripper clips to feed AR 15 style magazines. Then the magazine feeds the gun. In WW2 some rifles had a magazine that wasn’t detachable. The magazine was feed by a clip. I also don’t like it when people look at my truck and say “I like your tires”, when they are talking about my wheels. Wheel and tire are words that describe 2 different things. The same thing applies to the words Magazine and Clip.
@@xxfire07 it is wrong you are correct but clips has become slang for magazines and that should be common knowledge to most gun owners.
@@kamii_999 I am an Army veteran. And currently a law enforcement officer and a firearms instructor. I am a professional trained by professionals. I don’t deal in slang when it comes to my profession or hobby. Just because one is ignorant of the proper terminology or nomenclature, it doesn’t make them right.
I would have added range bags to the list. Gotta haul all of that somehow, and what you're taking can have an affect on what kind of bag you need or want.
Also the whole rabbit hole of securely storing stuff at home.
Quality advice, besides the training mags, that's essentially what I tell new shooters to buy up as well and I'll be adding trading mags to that now.
I agree, if I'm dropping my mags its practicing speed reloads on my carpet lol
"1000 rounds is what a gun enthusiast would call a weekend"
Fact.
lol right
And it’s for that reason and when you go further down the rabbit hole... I like to have on hand a minimum of 3k rounds of 7.62x39 and 9mm at any given moment. And yes, my firearm purchases and choice of caliber is heavily influenced by cost of ammo because I enjoy shooting a lot (I’m not a reloader). Guns are cheap. Ammo is not.
Thats a 1000-1100 dollar weekend now 😢
Facts on facts
I have a 2 " wood rod in my holster that is inserted in the 2" unloaded barrel. There's few shooters that haven't had a stuck round. When my gun is drawn, that wood slides and stays in the holster until needed, at a range or in a dark alley.
Great video! I would agree pistol on your gun is the best option 😂😂😂
Great video. I'd just look at your thumb nail for 1911/2011 reasons lol
I subscribed
I watched your vs.vs.vs video and for you being a Glock guy to pick the M&P 2.0 gives you very much credit in my book, those are some nicely refined pistols.
Then I watched this video and you make a lot of sense with your many points about the ammo needed, the training, the holster and light etc.
I started just like that.... slowly building up and now I compete in matches all over the state of Florida.
Nice man! Welcome to the party. And keep running those comps
Great vid...excellent advise.....beautiful dog.

Thanks, you too!

Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
The amount of ammo you suggested (1250-1500rds in all) is probably now the entire amount of the extended budget you set
Really solid advice. Not trying to be one of keyboard commandos giving “expert” gun advice, but one thing I’d add: Run at least 100 rounds of your carry ammo (hollow points) in those designated carry mags. The reason for this is to make sure that you test for function and understand the recoil for that combination of firearms/mags/ammo. Last comment and first thing somebody new to firearms should do even before that first training class...memorize and understand the four universal rules of firearm safety. (Watch his video on that subject or many others out there.). And with that WELCOME TO THE FUN CLUB!!!
Totally agree about the hollow points, it's just an expensive day haha
@@1911syndicate expensive day, but it will be cheaper than a malfunction when you need to use your gun

Training, training, training. Any good training facility will have guns you can rent for class and practice. Before you buy a gun, give yourself the benefit of the experience of shooting many different firearms.
In my case, taking a couple weeks to try out guns under expert supervision saved me from buying a gun that hurt my hands to shoot. Take your time and be curious.
Yes, my spreadsheet after I got my first gone added up to about a couple grand. And I looked at myself in the mirror and said mockingly “it’s only 600 for this Glock.” But I have it all and never looked back.

Great video man! I feel better now that I know owning 1000 rounds is normal 😂
Oh nice, a clip pouch. For my full clips
I first got a g19.4 because I didnt want to wait for the gen 5 because I never know when our lgs would have even got them and glad I did wait because I actually couldnt get a gen 5 till like 5 years later and when I did I spent a year making a roland special out of it.
In that time all I did was get 3 used mags that I used oem for the range along with my regular mags.
Holster from stealth gear and a ccw permit.
When I started horndaddy critical duty, I am now on the gold dot 124g gravy train, its by far the most consistent duty ammo. Get a safariland if you must have a owb holster and spend the money and get a level 3 holster.
Stop buying kydex owb holsters!!!
I got into the bravo concealment shit at first and they make trash, I have a holster and everything else for it for a g19 with a tlr1 and all the options and I will never use a kydex holster again.

I remember my days living in Los Angeles and being a gun guy. I lived most of my life there till I escaped to one of the few free states left.
Angeles Shooting range, training with ITTS Gun Fighting School, driving to Palmdale and Lancaster to shoot in the desert. Going to Ojai and shooting in Rose Valley, those were the days, when owning firearms were almost OK in California. And yes, I had a CCW for California
We train at least once a quarter with handguns, shotguns, and Rifles. Special training with sniper rifle / precision Rifle training, patrol rifle training.
You are so correct on all the information in your presentation. People, listen to him and you won’t go wrong.
Training is not a one time thing, you must train often with and at a certified school and save all certificates you receive. Tactics are critical. Knowing when not to shoot is just as critical as knowing how to shoot.

I had some one on one training and trained with martial arts guys from the academy. I miss not training with them. I train out here with friend that are firearms instructors for the Highway Patrol. So training. 1-2 days? How much would that cost? My Class D security license course took a total of 40 hours spread over a number of days for a total cost of about $200 USD. I don't even know if they do that length of firearms training in my area, even if I do live in Gunshine.

What about a cleaning kit
Im still having trouble getting used to having a pistol on my gun. Lol
You forgot a gun cleaning system!
8:26 light on your pistol/gun is what he meant not pistol on your gun lol
I heard about gun belts. What are quality belts to purchase?
My go to belt is from Ares Gear
I have had a vedder cobra belt that was good. I currently have a kore essentials belt and it's been great so far
It depends on the state you live in. For me half of this crap is of zero use, as there is no way for the average Joe to get any kind of carry license. If your state allows you to I 100% agree with the list. But if you will never be able to conceal carry holsters are of negligible use. As for training mags, again if you are not training to do a tactical reload then you don’t need dedicated mags. Pulling the magazine and placing it on the table to grab the next off the table is fine.
I often have a pistol on my gun

Im slightly disappointed lol I only skimmed the title as it was loading for auto play and thought it would be 1911 specific. Are there any things you would recommend I buy along with my 1911 this weekend? CAT and know how to use it.
you forgot 911 clothes set !
Ok you don’t need all that stuff all at once. I bought my first gun, a holster, 50 hollows and 100 range rounds. This is literally going to the extreme
Every child I come into contact with from now on will be called a little younker
Lol all those plugs not a single word about cleaning and maintenance gear wth is this?
What pants are those?
A pistol in my gun ?
g19 is a good pistol but for your first gun i would not suggest it if you want to enjoy getting into guns because glocks are like a brick, they shoot like a brick aswell.
What!? just buy a .22 semi. learn how to shoot. go through 10k rounds then go buy a 9mm. And perfect it to the best you can. You might as well learn on the cheap gun and ammo and refine on the good stuff. This is like what a 25 yo that only drink craft beer or wine would tell you. Sounds like this guy watches a lot of john wick. But if ypur going to go this route dont forget you need a minimum 4 glock hats. 1 for home (personal defense) 1 for your car (range hat) 1 for the gun store (dont wear your range hat to the gun store) and one for a friend you must convince to buy a glock.
Why his thumbs go so far back like that 😅😬

Pistol on your gun? Hmm
Gotta clean that gun as well
Where are all these people finding these 500 buck glocks? Must be late to this party.
No currently no
You forgot the thousands of dollars in cleaning gear. 🤦🏻
I did not lol. My guns are dirty
If you're paying thousands of dollars in cleaning stuff you're probably doing something wrong, or you're getting ripped off
I don’t have “training mags”, I shoot my own hand reloads and didn’t pay for some training course. I use common sense and that’s free. Your mileage may very.
Whether your brand new to shooting or a seasoned veteran you should always always be willing and motivated to seek out training just going to the range and shooting at cans is plinking perhaps practice but you cant really practice without proper training.
You're missing a few things here.
The idea of "training mags" is the same as work clothes vs Sunday clothes. Training mags will take the wear and possible abuse from your range days and training classes. If they get damaged or develop quirks, it's not a big deal. Your carry and defensive use mags stay in great condition, lowering the risk of malfunction at a time when you can't afford it. Or maybe you get extended mags for the range so you don't have to reload so often and your carry mags are the smaller flush-fit that conceal easier.
Also, common sense is not free, especially common sense about firearms. Lots of us learned it from our parents, grandparents, scout masters, etc, over a long period of time. That's not an option for first-time gun owners in their 20s or 30s. A 2-3 day class from a quality instructor covering safety, basic operation and malfunction clearing, beginning marksmanship, and basic care/maintenance is hardly a waste. Maybe you've got friends or family that can help you with that; maybe not.
ALSO also, training can mean a lot of different things to different people. Knowing how to operate a pistol while plinking at the range is completely different than doing it under pressure.
Gun and 2 boxes of ammo lmao thats about all they gonna these days.
While we are on the subject of nomenclature, clips vs. mags, I believe if you have a CCW you cannot carry a pistol. I'm pretty sure a CCW is a felony. CPL would be the correct terminology. Just throwing that out there for knowledge.
You went waaaay too bougie. You don't need all that to start out
average joe does not need all these. overcrowding the newbies. cmon man
You do not need 500 rounds of hollow points when just starting out 🤦🏾♂️
500 is on the high side of NEED, yes. But you do need a significant amount of the same defensive ammo at first. I won’t trust my life with a brand of ammo until I am satisfied it reliably (as in 100% functional) runs in each pistol AND magazine I am going to carry. Personal; for me that’s at least 50 rnds per magazine I will carry. Also, you need to know exactly where the pistol’s sights will print with that specific ammo at all ranges out to the max distance you can effectively use the gun at. This will be unique to each different ammunition type or brand or bullet. Also, you can’t re-chamber a round but so many times before it experiences setback (bullet pushed further into the case by hitting the feedramp during chambering). So, unless you load it and leave it loaded, you need to either expend the round or discard it. I fire the chambered round as the first shot of each practice session; that also gives me confidence that it will work for me when I need it to. Also, you need a significant amount of defensive ammo to get proficient with recoil control as it’s significantly different than training ammo. So you can see this does add up into the triple digits
Man, literally you listed only ammo as essential. What it is really essential that you didn't mention is the maintainance kit (oil, brush and so on). All the other things you mentioned, but ammo, you can purchase them in the future. They are not essential at all.
a high quality gun belt should be on your list as well. Kore essentials makes great gun belts for a reasonable price. Also on a side note, you have freakishly long thumbs, just saying.
Haha apparently that is a true fact I just never knew it until recently
