"No cup holders" because that level of class doesn't eat at drive-throughs.
rofl yes we do ;P
Great video, just as we’ve come to expect. I have a BMW 645i and have loved the experience it’s given for four years. I’ve been looking for a replacement and was at a loss until this video. I don’t do huge mileage but enjoy a big competent car. I think you’ve provided the solution.
The tug-boat video that you spliced into your review absolutely cracked me up. Very funny. I love your reviews. Very informative. Full of useful information. Please keep up the good work.
The car is not a twin turbo. Its a single twin scroll turbo.
TWINPOWER TURBO - yes it really is misleading.
Indeed. The only twin turbo petrol in the 6 Series at that time
was the M6.
But, check how many turbos are on the X5M diesel.... u will be surprised,
OliverTrist wasn’t the 650i f12/13 out
Great review and insight as always with discussion on real world driving and use. Great choice of car. It certainly has given me the final push to get one.
Regarding the old 6 series everything you said, was basically exactly what my mate says about his, so your right on the money.
Great car and wonderful video. Comprehensive review of all the factors that went into your purchase decision. I am looking to buy 6 Series vert in next 6 months and found this invaluable. Enjoy the ride!
Love your reviews and clips I’ve been very tempted to get a 6 series now think I will
Really loving this channel!!! Very informative.
Thanks for watching
This was the most calm yet one on one review ever. I loved it, it felt like it was really me and the homie driving telling me about how and why he wanted this car but In the most casual convo
Thanks!
Your ancient videos are rather laid back and lack enthusiasm you exude lately but more or less the same content, thanks for your consistency! I get the required heads up for any given video regardless of when it was cast, great!❤
I once was given a ride in a BMW M6 at the age of about 15, scared the absolute life out of me with how fast it was haha!
Ben Doyle was that the V10 version from around 2005-2010?
That flashback to a 1950s Swedish harbour launch had me in stitches.
Hahaha! It may have been a slight over exaggeration but why put a noisy diesel in a cabrio??
Love your videos mate, keep it up
Cheers!
Congrats Bro, you deserve it:)
Going to pick one up this Thursday, £77k new with extras, now £12900, 90000 miles full BMW FSH, can't wait.
Great video. Love this car. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Jonathan Barber Thank you! Glad you liked it 😬
Brilliant, loved the tug boat reference, I too think this is my fave CZcams channel. Thanks Mat.
Haha thank you
Tinted my mates 645 last year. Absolutely lovely motor and extremely well built.
Excellent review. Honest and simple
I just got a 2017 640i in "M" trim and I love it. I traded my 2007 Bentley GTC and it's been a great move.
You had a Bentley? Thats on my wish list haha
@@HighPeakAutos It was a wonderful car that was exorbitantly expensive to maintain.
I bet! Thats what has always put me off them. You can now get early ones for around £25k, but its the cost of maintenance that frightens me
Never know that that was true
Well Bentlys are costky to tax and insurance is expensive
Love your reviews man. I discovered your channel a week ago and really like your 'one take' down to earth reviews. Comes across very relaxed and honest. Keep it up!
Thank you! Appreciate it :)
Good review. I almost bought one years ago when I test drove it but in the year that I test drove the car, it didn't offer a.w.d. and I live in a snowy climate in winter. I really liked the solid feel and sport transmission in that model however.
I love it :)
Really enjoying your videos mate I predict you'll have 100k subs by the end of the year.
Sad but true about any hot golf or Audi. My bro had his wife's gti and his 330d touring stolen on Christmas Day. You just can't have a nice car close to Bradford. You'll love the 6 series my dad had a 650i when it came out and we all loved it.
Thanks for your comments! Appreciate it! Its a shame, its quite a problem in the UK. You see something every day on facebook about a stolen car etc... I've never driven a 650i but I bet its awesome :)
So overthere Golfs and A3s are like honda civics and accords in the states? Wow! I tell my people Vag is huge overseas.
Someone in Bradford out on Christmas Day whilst people are celebrating Christmas, wonder who the thieves were?
Gav I 😂😂
It's a shame u don't promote your business more I would buy from you in a heart beat.great content
Hi! I didn't want to set this up just to promote my business. I thought it might come across as a bit false. I'd rather just give my honest opinion, and if it leads to a sale, great, but if not it doesn't matter :)
Driving a car with a left-sided steering wheel is on my bucket list.
Flash MeLody you mean right?
It’s ok to smile when you put your foot down lol, it looks like it could be fun almost a bit of a sleeper
Thats right :)
Ive just bought the 640d msport convertible hoping after all this lockdown is over with the 3 of us can do exactly that a cruise to spain maybe!!. But im well impressed with the car.. like you said bud i think i made the correct choice in buying one of these.. keep the vids coming matey.. :)
Good choice!
Wow beautiful choice, I’ve never heard anyone who doesn’t like the looks of the in- and exterior. If I hadn’t got a heavy caravan to tow I would also consider a bmw 6 gran coupe. Congrats with your purchase!
Thanks! I've always loved the styling on the whole 6 series range. I love the Gran Coupe, it looks awesome, but I fancied having the 2 door.
I remember owning a 645ci 2005 cabriolet with manual transmission back in 2010. God it was a head turner, I'll never forget that car, I had to sell it 2 years ago because I had to buy a family car (Still a BMW tho)
I loved my 04 645. Made a great noise. :)
I’ve had a 650 for 8 years, had the DINAN stage 2 upgrade. It’s well worth the money. I love this car but it has well over 200K km’s and starting to have some small issues. So sadly getting rid of it. Be careful with these cars, maintenance is pricey like most of these but they are solid and reliable when properly maintained and the V8 twin turbo in mine is simply a joy specially with the DINAN upgrade.
Great video
The button next to the electronic handbrake is the Auto Handbrake which is brilliant. Once activated it senses when the car comes to a standstill then automatically applies the handbrake until you press the accelerator then it releases seamlessly, no fuss, no hassle, excellent for city stop start traffic. Between the Auto handbrake and the head up display, I’ll miss my 640d convertible when it’s time to change cars. Also, you can’t tell it’s a diesel with the roof down except for first thing in the morning when the engine is cold or sat in stationary traffic, but it’s a lot more refined than Mercedes and VW diesels and the power is outstanding for a diesel when in sport plus mode. I’ve had mine just over three years from brand new and it still makes me smile when I drive it.
They're great cars! I love mine. You're right about the auto handbrake, great feature. I've only had mine for a few months, but I don't know what I will replace it with. I don't think anything else will compare. Maybe an S class convertible, but they're still too expensive for me.
High Peak Autos I’m in the same situation, the 435d xdrive convertible doesn’t have the same luxury feel or equipment level, the S Class is a bit of a barge and the new 850 is too expensive and the convertible version isn’t out for a while and will cost over £100k. At least I’ll get one more summer to decide on it’s replacement. The roof will open and close up to 27mph and I love the fact that the rear window opens as I actually had a Freelander 15 years ago with the same feature. I also like the rear buttresses on the roof which reminds me of a Jaguar XJS. I’ve hear rumours that Jaguar might relaunch the XKR on a new platform sometime in 2021-2022 so fingers crossed they’ll release the convertible too.
I saw a new 850i driving the other day. Its a stunning looking car. I also love the look of the LC500 Lexus. Who knows... Ill have to cross my fingers for some heavy depreciation haha
We’re the back window is, with the hood coming round at the back looks similar styling to the xjs, cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
I know you don't like diesels but I had a 640d Gran Coupe M Sport, ex demo, and kept it 3 years. It was a fantastic car and actually handled/rode far better than the 2 door. The diesel sounded great and the torque was mind blowing. Staggeringly quick car in sport mode. I wish I'd kept it longer (I do 20K a year).
I'm not a massive fan of diesels, but if I did 20k a year, I would definitely have the diesel. Infact, every time I fill mine up, it crosses my mind that I should have bought the 640d haha. I do love the Gran Coupe too - the fact that anyone buys anything else surprises me, its such a good looking car
@@HighPeakAutos I traded it for the Merc E300 coupe (which I knew was a mistake driving it home. Had been delayed as it failed the PDI and needed parts). The salesman's brother bought it - offered me a bit more than the trade in. It was pretty mint, 14 reg, 58K, fsh. High spec. He paid 23K, and it's a heck of a car for that money.
I agree. They still look modern and they've been around for a few years.
One of my friends dad has a 640d, and he wishes he didn't buy a diesel. The 650i uses way to much fuel and is overly expensive to maintain at BMW.
Another good video
I liked the Land Rover advert before your vid. Regards Alan (Dover) Kerplunken +++
The rear window sitting upright and dictating the weird roof shape is probably to use it as wind deflector. Which I think is pretty clever since often the wind deflectors on 4 seater convertibles are a bit dodgy. (I know I'm late to the party, but currently I am binge watching your videos) :)
Thanks for watching!
Doesn't sport mode disable start/stop without the warning light?
Nice video and ride! I'm picking up my 640i convertible next week. Can't wait!
Daniel Pettersson Great! Bet you’re excited. I love mine. It’s one of the best cars I’ve ever had. It’s got such presence on the road 👍
I feel like a kid again waiting for Christmas 🎄 have you noticed any difference in exhaust sound in the different drive modes? What about the road and wind noise in cabin?
Daniel Pettersson With the fabric roof there is a bit of road/wind noise - but it’s not too bad. The exhaust sounds good in normal mode, it does improve the sound slightly in sport mode it also changes the gear changes and makes them more aggressive. One thing to get used to is the sheer size of it. It took me a while to adapt but now I have I love it
Daniel Pettersson Did you get the 640 yet??
@@HighPeakAutos yup it's in my garage now waiting for summer. Lovely drive home though. Can't wait to drop the top
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I’m pretty much on the same line of thinking. A 650 sounds great as my next buy, yet I’m considering bio ethanol conversion to lower the gas budget a bit. Apparently it does not have negative incidence on the car behavior or engine wear. Cheers !
🤣🤣🤣🤦🤦🤦🤦
Well I’ve found my next car, thank you 👌🏻
I've been looking at these as my next car; so googled it and would you know it my ever faithful youtuber and second hand car dealer comes up trumps.
You've come far in 3 years Matt, especially with your daily drives! 😂
I felt the same way when I went to replace my 7 series. To date I cannot find anything that gave me the same or better driving experience.
You get used to all the gadgets, so much so, you wouldn't want to live without them
It's a great cruiser. Nice video (you just not to work out your personalised introduction now for future videos!)
How do you think it compares looks wise to the coupe? . Or a 4 series convertible
I love the coupe too and the 6 series GC
Enjoyed that, a car deffo worth considering. Would be helpful in future to know what you paid/how much to expect to pay etc. thanks
Thank you! I'm going to do a follow up vid when I've had it for 3 months
That boat sounded great!
I just bought a 645 Ci today, conv and 4.4 V8 SMG....Friggin awesome !!!!!!!!!
The rear window is designed straight I believe so it can be used as a windbrake when the roof is down. Looks a nice car. I'm looking for a relaxed motorway cruiser convertible to replace my Vauxhall Cascada and these for 18 month are now a lot cheaper than my Vauxhall which is rediculous.
Thats right. They're great cars and such good value
Some very good video editing here, especially the tug boat, and american clip with palm tree's
Rodrigo De Triano Thanks!
I am now, having just come across your channel waiting for you to get a T.V.R. yep a T.V.R....to review because I think that would be the best review ever and honest to boot !!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve never had a TVR. I look forward to the day when I film with one
The vertical rear window, rear buttress design is my favourite thing about the 6er cab, I wish all soft tops had this design and I think it’s disappointing the new 8er cab has a normal design.
This would be a dream car for me if you could get a naturally aspirated manual with a real handbrake, as it stands I would like the old one for those things, but it is a bit outdated interior wise.
I agree with you :)
High Peak Autos life is hard when no one makes your dream car and you have to keep getting different close approximations haha
Yea I like that Edwardian back that got me and the vertical rear glass it’s what makes it but good camera work
RIP 6 Series.. I have the GC 640 AWD and love it. It's beautiful and I get asked about it all of the time. It's a ridiculous car with almost no back seat despite being a 4 door, but it's just lovely to drive especially after you dump the RFT. I would have loved to have the diesel, but hard to find in the US.
I love the GC. Its a great looking car, very stylish!
Can u do 4 series bro your a good reviewer, i can so relate to u especially u drive so many bangers like me lol
The rear window can be raised again when the roof is lowered, therefore acts as a glass wind deflector, the same as the original shape Audi TT roadster had, that's why it sits at 90º
Ross Collier I think the best thing is.. rood up and rear window down and an aftermarket exhaust. Listen to that exhaust singggg
Thank you for sharing
I’m planing to get 650i coupe convertible of course maybe 2021
Do you think it’s a right move??
Great video bud. I am looking at a 640i (GC) myself and I was wondering what kind of real world economy do you get on a motorway run?
Although similar to you I do few miles so it's not a big issue. But would be nice to know from an owner. Thanks.
Its pretty good on the motorway - had the 640i facelift grand coupe for a few months now. On motorway at 60mph its over 40 mpg. Book says 47mpg i think. Around town its much less but then there is eco mode to help.
Inspiring stuff.cheers.
Cheers :)
Thankyou for sharing your knowledge. Good to hear mention of Doncadter in previous vid. Keep giving bro, your words reaching far.
Robyn hud Thank you 👍🏻
Really nice car! I like the roof top lines; reminds me of a f355 spyder or flying buttresses of an xjs. This is one of the few contemporary bmw cars that appeals to me - so many of their newer designs lack any character or desirability (like the designs of he past did) not so here.
You can't mask that smile coming when you accelerate with the top down. :-D
Thanks for a great vid.
Enjoying your stuff mate. Not a diesel fan myself either.
It would be wonderful if you could find a fine example of a BMW E60 535D and test it! Love your low key, down to earth videos!
Thank you! When I find one, I'll do it!
Thanks for the video. This engine has a single turbo, not two turbos. It's a bit of a marketing trick in the naming. What it does have is a single turbo with the exhaust gases split into two inlet pipes into the turbo. The technical term for this arrangement is "twin scroll".
I am now looking for a neat 2014 650i cab.. in 2013 I think the 650i had a power upgrade form 300kw to 330kw. I have a M135i with the same 3.0L twin turbo so 640i will feel slow.. love the video and convinced me to go for a 6 series cab. Thanks Bud
Hi, I would definitely recommend one. I love it. If you're used to a M135i, I don't think you'll be satisfied with the 640i - Its quick enough, but its not lightening fast - I think the 650i with 100bhp more would be better. The 6 series is very heavy too.
Its not twin turbo 🤦♂️
Matt. Really interesting to hear how your opinion has changed about the 6 series petrol vrs diesel engine over a period of 3 years Matt. You were adamant petrol was the way to go here and listening to your review on the 640d 7 months ago, diesel was definitely the way to go. I concur with your later review. Whilst I have always favoured petrol, the 640d is an amazing all rounder.
I love your reviews. The only thing I'd ask you to consider changing though is your pink hoodie 😉
I would rather have the petrol convertible but the diesel in the coupe of GC
Awesome. I just got a 645 ci a week ago and am loving it!
Very nice!
Great car, I do love the idea of a wafty, fast car. Look forward to seeing more
Thanks! :)
Me too
You have in depth experience with r230 sls. I watched both your sl 350 and sl 500 reviews. How would wou Compare the 640i to them? Which one would you prefer if it was your daily commute? (for me 350 is the same cost 2009 versiyon with abc suspension and the extra perf of the 640i is not important. I am more into the quality of the materials and the durability solidbess of the car). Thanks a lot. 🙏
This is the review I was looking for 😂. As an Range Rover lover myself too, now I got a bmw 6 series xDrive 4x4.
Great choice of car...looks fab...
love this car ♥
Q 8 Me too! I’m really happy with it 😬
Love the reference to Harry the tug boat. Just bought myself an Alpina Roadster It's petrol... it's manual... it's brilliant 😀
Interesting choice!
Beautiful car always been My dream car since i was a child the first 6 series.
Recently got rid of my 640D that I had for 6 years and did 145k, never once cost me any money in repairs, it was bullet proof. Got a X5 now due to my kids being 5 and 6 and no longer fit in the 6 and are to young to catch the bus on their own.
No repairs? That's really encouraging news!
TheFNProductionz yeah. It was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. 70% of the mileage was motorway driving so the car wasn’t under as much stress as if it had been driven around town for most of its life. Saying that every other car I had with the same sort and type of mileage was costing me more money in regular bills every year by that point.
@@Rambo9700 glad to hear it. Hopefully that erases some doubts with these BMWs.
I have 650i for 8 months now, trust me, you should’ve bought it, straight pipe, tune and sport air filter and you looking up to 500hp. And with a tune it doesn’t drink that much, around 11l/100km
Yeah you're right. I'm quite satisfied with mine though for now
Looking at treating myself to either the 640d or E350 Merc convertible what's your thoughts and anything you think i should look out for? Around 2012 plate as prefer the separate head/main on this year Merc thanks Mick
Michael Hastings both are very good
@@HighPeakAutos thanks
That rear window is gorgeous and a fantastic item....top up, window down
You can't beat the sound of a V8 in the morning -) The cup holder was a £250 option!
The Gran Coupe version of this 6 series is an amazing looking car, my doctor has a dary navy one with a cognac interior its a stunner.
The new 8 series gran coupe is also quite nice
@@terrificspokesman7416 the new 9 series is good too
@@Professor-Scientist it doesn’t exist
Personally I think the 10 series gran coupe is the best....
the new M21 Series is INSANER !!!
Hello, does the 640d cabriolet have wind noise ?cheers
So once again witch engine would you pick up if you would buy again 6 series?? 🙂
I have been eyeing a 650 and as a fun V eight. Bang for Buck I think it’s almost unbeatable. I think you love the V8 and I agree.
Set of injectors and dpf area was an issue for my BMW series 6 and an annoying cost, but dpf problem appeared at 100k so “we buy any car”, but did save £600 on fuel each year. You will hear a shrill scream on hard acceleration if windows are down which sounded the end of my low pressure turbo.
Yes,,,this one I like a lot,,,and the issue of character of previous owner important when purchasing premium, potentially costly to service, car. I want one,but only for weekends. Soft tops in Andulucia deteriorate quickly and vulnerable!
classy ride...thoughtful choice parameters...no lies detected.
Thank you so much for the great review. Vry attractive, and nice voice. Are there any new news about your 640i? In the market for one. I heard that the 4.4 V8 in the pre-facelift 650i can have some issues. Quite sad about it. Would have loved a burbling V8.
Thanks for your comments! They're great cars. I'm going to do a 3 month update video soon. I would have loved the burbling V8 650i, but they were more expensive and I've heard some bad reports about that particular V8. Which is a shame. The previous 645ci I had was a great engine and it suited the car better. Still a great looking car and I'm very happy with it
Thank you for the reply. Looking forward to the video. Hope you have a stunning day.
I have a question regarding the sale of these cars. As a buyer, how do you strike the best balance between depreciation and reliability (just measuring by age and shape). I would imagine you know these values very well as you sell these types of cars every day. This car in particular I had understood to depreciate at a very rapid rate.
Haha, in the north rain is a big possibility! As iam a southern softie.....I was wondering have ever left the roof down up where you live or do you only get to let it down in the garage! Loool.
How is the reliability and maintenance on these cars?
Good review. I contemplate the Petrol vs Diesel Q myself since I will be looking at a new (SH) car this year. Thought you’d just bought a diesel RR? Thoughts on a CLS Shooting Break? Dog friendly!
Hi, this is an old video from 2018. I like the CLS shooting break. Very stylish and quiet rare
another super review , better than mine it has 2 cup holders lol
your right the petrol much better than the derv model
proper GT CAR
iv had 944s and 928s but your right so comfortable
1234567robbie Thanks! I love a good GT car - probably my favourite kind of car. Much easier to live with than a smaller sports car. I’ve always been a fan of the 6 series. I saw a new 8 series today for the first time, can’t wait to drive one of those 😍
@@HighPeakAutos your good at this mate keep it going yull go far !
1234567robbie Cheers pal 😉
Good reasoning on the purchase although I would doubt that many young lads could afford to buy a Mercedes to thrash around.
MsCelicagt4 I think the C63 is the car of choice for any young lad who is up to no good (I might be generalising a little) 😂
Obviously you haven't been to Bradford or Cyprus
Look at em used. Plenty going for $16,000-20,000.
@@tenzinsmith7991 easy to afford for for us youngsters when we’re living at home with no bills really to pay.
Would anyone recommend the 640i gran coupe of this as a 2 small children family car, combined a12/a406 driving 30 miles daily? Hoping mpg isn't too bad on that!
I'm in Canada and just bought a 2004 645i conv, and it has the V8, cupholders, heated seats/wheel, It is awesome........SMG box too and its certainly no tiptronic auto .....
Love those
Hello buddy I haven’t been watching your posts but I’m back the last one I watched was when you took your moms car while she was on her holiday so can you tell me please what car did you replace her Range Rover evoque with
I don't know why BMW have switched to white light clocks from the classic red. Also the sat nav looks like it should be retractable but afaik it is in the permanent position.
Great car always loved the 6, had a few 530d models mainly E60 and F10 but always preferred the 6, however the 5 much more practical, great review by the way !!
I agree. I like the 5 series too. I love the 6 series Gran Coupe
High Peak Autos true, but I’ll be honest not a fan of the new 8 series, something about the shape doesn’t look as smooth as the 6!
I'm only looking at these because the Mrs wants to do a euro road trip after lockdown, but your video (as always) has sold me on the car. The boot might just leave some space for my luggage too.
Its perfect for that. Plenty of space
You are welcome to come down to London, you might get a chance to take the top down.
