Do you still think Liverpool will finish above Arsenal? I was quite shocked when you predicted that.
Wow congratulations on learning something today 😄
Thank you James. This was very helpful on understanding my team's style of playing.
With VAR making massive mistakes that even 10yr old wouldn't, will leave a bad taste and negative team outcomes. Look wat happened to wolves vs United. Got robbed by VAR and all they can say is SORRY and move on to make similar mistakes again😮
What program do you use for the team sheet??
Allcott from rangeeeee!
Three games in and it's obvious the plan with Havertz is not working as well as we hoped. I would love to see Trossard instead of Havertz to be honest.
Spot on James. Havertz at Bayer L. was one of they most sought after talents in Europe. He mostly played as a creative midfielder, and was brilliant. At Chelsea he was mostly a false 9, but a creative player needs enough forwards in front of them to be effective, he didn't really get this at Chelsea. I wanted him with us at LFC back before he went to Chelsea. He will be great for arsenal, I'm sure of it.
Wasn’t even played as a false 9, he was just played as a striker
Havertz played as a creative midfielder for Chelsea for a while and was awful, his most prolific position by far was as a false nine/inverted winger playing alongside timo werner who used his pace to draw off defenders and give Havertz a lot of space. Havertz needs a lot of space to do wel with the ball because he’s not particularly skilful or nimble and his decision making isn’t great, and he’s certainly not creative, so he isn’t suddenly gonna be a good midfielder for arsenal. His strength (if he has one) is finding space in the box and putting away tap ins. I see him as having a similar mold to Thomas muller just not as good, so doubt he will be a good cm

I always rated the Havertz transfer. Arsenal didn’t necessarily need him, but could use him very very effectively against teams that just sit in a low block.
Havertz is awful for low block kol
@@sauravbajracharya8050 Actually he showed last game that he is very good on low block teams
@@sauravbajracharya8050I think he knows that but he’s maybe referring to what Arteta is looking to do. It’s clear to see how he’s using Havertz. Opponents won’t always pick up on this and he will find space outwide confusing full backs whether to mark him or Martinelli. This is my opinion but of course I could be wrong!
@@chrisb4474 The only thing Havertz does is confuse his team mate, he is affecting Odegaard's plays
You rate the havertz transfer?
Post 2-2 Fulham..he was like a hologram in midfield
VIERA literally showed more in 20 minutes..than havertz in 3 matches
I think Arteta this season is trying to make us more unpredictable, our new signings have enabled us to do this and change our systems. For the opening day I was actually fine with seeing mistakes in the second half - I'm hoping we peak towards the end of the season rather than peak and the beginning and fall off towards the end like we did last year.
well said
Exactly 💯
Tbh we didn't fall of towards the end of last season. It was a lack of squad depth especially when we lost key players, particularly Saliba. There was no replacement and Rob holding was just not anywhere near Saliba's level and the system suffered. This season we have Timber well now injured, Ben white, Tomiyasu, and Kiwior who can all interchange, and a deeper squad to allow for that even if one or 2 players get injured.
Unpredictable?
To confuse the enemy..one must confuse himself- mikel arteta
Post 2-2 FULHAM..
We look absolutely terrible...they ran through our midfield
Thank god sonebody can analyse that game and see that it wasn't a nervy opener where arsenal edged out forest. The first half, where the game was won and lost, was a demolition job. 84% possession and 2-0 up isnt edging past. I think the key point ppl are missing is that whilst the system is fluid and tactically genius, the players are still getting to grips with it and also they were just a little slow on the day so all the more impressive that they bested a low block like that when not rlly performing at their vrilliant best. It just shows that the system works. Especially impressive as a big part of that game plan must have been to do with injuries to zinchenko, jesus, gabriel (apparently he was ill or had a knock midweek) and (midway through the game) timber. A huge amount of flexibilty shown despite all that damage personel wise at the back WITHOUT A HOLDING IN SIGHT. These rlly are new and exciting times
Arsenal dominance is becoming normal now. It has come to a point where they don't have to play particularly well to secure 3 points

Zinchenko will the equivalent of what we saw from Partey last match. I just don't see Zinchenko being sustainable in games where we won't be in full control of the games. We seem to be in a transition period as we get more dynamic defenders.
@@Topolinho Rebuilding while challenging. Damn. Not an Arsenal fan but that deserves some praise at least.
@@barracklesnar Pep has literally been doing the same. He completely abandoned the concept of fullbacks while still being dominant. It's not a rebuild it's a system tweak.
The way City and Arsenal play football is insane… they’re playing minigames within a game of football. Confusing opponents leading to space to be manipulated is the most effective way of playing at the moment. It may be slow at times but when its fast and free flowing it looks so damn good
Wenger played the best football I've seen in the premiere League. Brighton and Arsenal play the best football, but City is on a different level. It is all about consistency, and they have bundles of it. Arsenal will push them all the way without a doubt. Arteta has been backed and needs to produce. No excuses this time.
video breaks down perfectly how the new signings give us more versatility
Love how Arteta took inspiration from Herbert Chapman with the WM formation.
It is going to take time to get everything into perfect position - while some may call it slow i call it Patience and Progressiveness. They didn't have to expend too much energy either because they weren't being pressed or Nottingham Forest weren't trying to win the ball back. I was very pleased overall with the performance of everyone. It's not always about how many goals one scores it's about how certain players will create that little space to thread a ball, or other avenues that will lead to goals.
Havertz is going to have a fine season and nobody will convince me otherwise. I am excited

If you’re Chelsea , there’s no standout Chelsea player for these past 2 years. Everyone is either average or lower than that. But now under Poch, I can see they will rise again . So good luck with that and get the top 4 again
If you’re Arsenal fans, Harvertz just join the team. Arteta tactical is super detail. The players needs to follow A-Z what Arteta wants then the tactical will be perfect and the players will look amazing. What Haverts did well is to get less mins but still following what Arteta wants but only 30-50%.
Look at his running in the box . Look at the chance created , look at the aeriel duel, the foul he gets and so on. It’s overall game that we look into. If saka and Rice scored the chance they get , Harvertz will get two assist already . There’s one big chance Nketiah I think he didn’t pass to Harvertz when he clear alone , but Nketiah wants to shoot .

Insanely fun to watch video as an arsenal fan, i knew that with this formation and lineup arteta was thinking about something smart but i didnt know everything but this explains alot which i will look out for in the next games to come thx for this one James!!
brilliant analysis
All imma say is being a leicester fan who now have Enzo Maresca who was at Man City last season, us arsenal and City are all playing the same still of football with the starting RB ( Ricardo Pereira, Partey and Stones) become a second DM with then two attacking 8s in front. This could begin being a very common style of play now🤷♂️
It will be until Pep make something new and unstopable
You need the right profile of players to make it work, did you see what Man Utd tried yesterday 😂
Barcelona actually played this way under Cruyff. its more of history repeating itself
Absolutely brilliant and amazing work 👏👏

Great presentation and analysis!
would love to see Zinchenko play the LCM instead of Havertz. With Zinchenko's passing ability our front three will get more goals. if we need a goal from midfield then Havertz could b a great option from the bench and Fabio Viera in for Odegaard.

Best video on arsenal in a long time James! Great stuff!
Great channel!!
Great vid. Awesome job. So, the squad depth is crucial. It's really ashame about timber. It's very obvious why artets wanted those 3 players. Timber can play any defensive position. Rice can be a 6 or 8 and outside the box shooter. And kai. Makes a lot of sense. 24, tall, cl experience. Intelligent player. Can cover for lw, cf, rw, rm. Cam, lm. Give him a year and he will surprise people. He scored more goals then mount, Salah, and kdb at Chelsea at 32 goals. in 3 years. He was our second highest scorer in preseason tied with saka. I mean last year he was shit. And only scored 2 goals less then not Haaland that man u just signed for more money.
This was quality, u just gained a subscriber, keep it up. ❤️🤲🏾
Arteta plan is so genius, it makes Havertz invisible on the pitch.
That's what I'm saying. Havertz is the the next Raumdeuter. Muller can rest easy
It's been a while since the last time JLA praising Arsenal, thank you btw.
Jimmy exposing his “sweet sweet gunners” as usual. In all seriousness, great stuff as always. You do your work mate!
If you watch the actual games, Havertz just seems to get in the way of other players, taking up space rather than creating it...
Chuffed to see you making this video. I had to check my eyes at times, watching so many players rotate.
Arsenal’s right hand bias is worrying though. Their actions are somewhat repetitive and I don’t think they switched to the left as quickly
Ultimately Saka and Odegaard both operate on the right and they’re two of our most technical attacking players. The hope is that this opens up Martinelli to isolate his full back with the opposition being focused on the right ..
And what do you know, the first goal came from Martinelli’s brilliance on the left, the second goal came from Saka’s brilliance on the right.
Trossard and martinelli link up is great though
This is because the left side is still figuring itself out. It will balance its self out over the season
James already said it, this tactic allowed Arsenal to maximize Saka ultimately cause he's capable to beat his man, but if at some point Saka got nullified/doubled up, the opponents already forgot abt Martinelli and he'll punish them right away. a glimpse of this was Arsenal vs Brighton last season.
@@miniman2132 yeah. I agree. It just felt so one dimensional and the left is still figuring itself out. All three new players played in the left space of the field as well
It’s incredible that the 3 new players that came in became so pivotal in such a short time.
It’s scary. Either it is intentional scouting and analysis. Or just really well refined coaching on the mental side and upgrading footballing intelligence.
You are the best man!
Might not have enough depth right now but it would be interesting if Zinchenko plays an 8 role with a more conventional and overlapping LB. He can be the primary controller in the 2nd phase. Also would it work if we had Rice and Jorginho instead of Partey? Maybe with a more conventional back 4?
I think when Trossard or Jesus are playing 9 Havertz will be even more effective as both Leo and Gabi can both play in the midfield and can interchange perfectly and really catch defenders off guard, Nketiah can’t do that so it means Havertz is very limited in terms of the runs and space he can go into, I’d love to see Leo start on Monday
Thanks for this great analysis
I am happy that I am not alone in thinking that the most of a team progressive passes should be directed to their best players like Saka and I do not see this happening with the England national team
havertz played in midfield for his first 6 months at chelsea - he was far worse there than he even was up top. Will always love him for Porto, and I'll say fair play if it does work out at the ars(e), I just dont see it
Actually only for 2 months after coming from the bundesliga. Then got covid and was out for a month
Arsenal might have"won the transfer window" this season when it comes to adding something to the squad, that it was lacking and progressing the overall abbility to apply new tactics.
Specially the Havertz signing showed a lot of competence, since the guy ('member-he was one of the most wanted young offensive players in Europe, when Chelsea signed him - now you have defenders and cmds going for nearly double the money) was criminally misplayed at CFC (reminded me of the tragedy of Shinji Kagawa at ManU).
Might well be the most exiting top team this year looking at the whole package of players + manager + tactics.
Gotta say, that watching Newcastle is way more exciting. Better manager, better midfield, better strikers, although Arsenal maybe just edge it with wide front men and central defence. Although I'd rate Pope higher than either Ramsdale or Raya. We look to be back to the tip-tap last days of Wenger era yawn football
im excited about havertz

What tactics app do you use?
Any idea what program he uses for these team sheets
I'm really shocked at how many opposition fans are here questioning who's watched the game.
As an arsenal fan I was unhappy we didn't punish forest and win 4/5-0 (ok forest could have had a second with the first half chance, but it was very fortunate and accounted for 70% of their XG). However, we were clearly the dominant side, had plenty of opportunities to kill the game to.
First game of the season to, not at full fitness or cohesion, vs a very very low block.
The reality is, it was comfortable, the score line just doesn't reflect that (the score line doesn't always reflect the performance, I know, shock right?).
In fact the performance was as good as cities, they were just far more ruthless which we need to add to the game.
The best 3 teams this weekend was Newcastle, city, arsenal in that order.
Thinking arsenal are average based on that performance just shows you're watching through bias and you aren't looking for anything good.
Btw, anyone saying James is giving arsenal bias, this guy said it was a possibility Jason Steele finished the season with more assists than havertz.
Litterally have never laughed at breakdown of football ⚽️
Well done my man great content
Timing of the players was off especially in the final third. Conceded a goal when players not up to match fitness were against fresh Forest subs. Some sloppy passing. Right hand bias where players have several years of familiarity versus left hand newbies. Great game from Martinelli. The improvement of the team over pre season is very very impressive. Another couple of weeks and they will start snapping together.
This aged well
It’s a shame that Timber is out as I feel he really offered this system a lot of protection. Whoever fills in has to be a solid player capable of playing a CB. Tomiyasu can do it but his injury record isn’t great either. I’m not sure how Zinchenko fits as Partey’s role as the inverted RB gives the team more defensive protection and allows Rice more freedom.
and hes been given a red 🤣
Is it keeping him as far away from goal as possible?
I honestly couldnt predict the line up if my life dependent on it. A lot of versatile players and fluidity. I wouldnt be suprised with kiwior gabriel saliba white backline for next game. With partey and rice in midfield.
Problem with that is then where is the consistency? I think we were so good last year because we had a starting XI that played week in week out together, we will see if this chopping and changing works🤷♂
really hoping for a solo brighton episode
That's when fans started bullying Granit until when he showcased his class last season. Legend
Football manager game like DNA🤩🤩
it makes a lot of sense to me what Arteta is doing this season. We want to be dominant and attacking, so we don't need two number 6s. Partey in that hybrid RB/CM role is perfect. Rice has the quality to be the only CM/CDM at times. That allows Havertz to go on that second no 10 position, where he's much(!) better positioned compared to his false 9 role at Chelsea. It also creates more fluidity in front of the box, which is exactly what Arsenal need. We need more of that one-touch-football that we used to be so known for in th 00s. Two number 10s also create spaces for the wingers. Now all we need is to be clinical in front of goal, I really hope Eddie can step up this season
It reminds me of Brighton's playstyle.

Havertz will bang
@@Rosko_de_Soul Were u at the game?
I've written off Havertz. If he cannot even sort out his position at Chelsea...then what more at Arsenal? The only reason why I see him playing is because Arteta seems to think he has the height advantage to win headers and be physical with opponents. Hence, leaving out poor Trossard on the bench.
Problem is - Trossard has been effective whether hes on the bench or not. Havertz complicate things for Arsenal because it means Trossard don't get to play.
I really cannot see what Arteta sees in Havertz.... this guy's decision making in the final third is questionable and he cannot finish. We need someone to actually at the very least get the shots on target and Havertz is not that guy.
Trossard needs to start seriously. He has the technical abilities to be a false nine and he is rather quite clinical
Other than the goal Saka didn’t really do much, I didn’t think he beat the LB nearly as much as he should have done
This tactics is complicated as too much movement is involved looking forward to see how this works against possession base team
He ain’t using that against possession team we will use both partey and rice as cms look against city
That Bloody Mikel Arteta, He's done it again !! 😂 COYG
It's one game. Hold your projections
I thought it was strange how Gabriel/CB was dropped, heard the official explanation of Forest having the smallest posession of all teams last year, so Arteta rearrange his tactics/personel accordingly, but then I read yesterday a team in SA are about to make a bid for him.
Time will tell which was it, or maybe it was both.
Gabriel was dropped to get Havertz into the team
@@AliMohamed-yq4wn I mean, Gabriel was dropped to do this specific tactic, so ya I guess your right, but I have a feeling your making more of a blanket statement that no matter what gabriel would be dropped so havertz can play. I very much disagree with that. This tactic wont work for every game and arteta knows that. Arteta has also said gabi is not for sale and will get alot of game time this season. Gabriel will start in most if not all games against offensively strong opposition.
I didn't like party at right back ,I don't think it will work with a big team
This one aged well hahahah
0:23 what apps apps this?
under arteta the counter offensive maneuvers are almost non existence. prefering to control and grind to unlock defences.
Gee its almost as if teams with counter attacking style of play require the ball far less then a team that requires a lot of possession in play to get goals.
The only thing that would make this better is the screen to pan around to see Flav’s face at the end…
if your opponent didn't have fast winger, it can be work, but this formation won't work if we face the team like, brighton, liverpool, man city, man united.. look at the last second half, when elanga played...this formation already broken just in the last 10 minutes
arsenal have a strong chance of finishing top 2 again
Imagine judging havertz and arsenals right hand side already. Huge shift and are very early into it. Give it some time. Gonna be scary when it settles.

I already and still believe Arteta got plan for Havertz. I just have not yet see what is the plan. plus he seems not yet fully given a impact in GW1
The downside to this is - if Martinelli or Saka goes into a bad form - this tactic would be completely nullified. We need adequate competition for both Martinelli and Saka (more so Saka)
Trossard is the cover for Martinelli

Not usually one to critique a manager when he’s doing well but this was a very bad decision in my opinion. I’d rather have Xhaka than Havertz and moved our attention to a real striker.
We wasted 65m on Havertz and can collect 40m for Bolugan. That’s 100m we could have potentially had to spent on a real second striker to compete with Jesus.

I'm surprised you didn't have any quotes from managers about third man runs here, as this is what it appears Arteta is constantly trying to create and use throughout the entirety of the build up phrase. I think that's the key with Havertz as well. It's not about what he does with the ball but the space he creates for others without it. He's gonna create a ton of goals for others just with his movement and pulling defenders away.
"The third man is impossible to defend. Impossible.” - Xavi
You can counter by having a player behind where the 3th man would be heading who defende zones and areas
Triggered on movement from 3th man release tactic
But u need space
I tried coaching my team on this
Few years ago..results vary but it game it was harder to implement as people switched off often on the 3th man being released
@@mkodyChallengesYOu I think that's the idea behind positional play, create an Infinite amount of third man runs so 1 of 2 things happen to the opposing team. 1. The players get physically tired having to constantly track back and watch the spaces they're in or follow the right players. 2. Players get mentally tired and the attacking team pounces on a lapse in concentration as soon as a bit of space is created for someone to run into. Case in point, Newcastle vs City last night.
I think because football is defined by 1 moment or lapse in concentration between the top teams, positional play is impossible to defend every game, every minute.

I thought Arsenal were pretty dreadful against Forest. Heaps of just sideways passes with no productivity, they ended up being lucky to get the 3 points tbh. Xhaka had 14g/a last season while covering for Zinny, so Havertz needs at least 20g/a to cover for his lack of defence. I don't think he can do that, I think he could help us up top tho, especially now with Jesus out. I'd take him over Nketiah.
