I was this guy for 13 years. 6 years of methadone got me off the needle and fentanyl/heroin. Today I am 100% clean from methadone for 20 months.

Eco Geek well that’s good man and that gives me hope since I been on 28mg of Suboxone for going on 5 yrs and sometimes think I’ll never get off it and have to stay on it forever. I stopped blazing too for almost a year now just taking my subs and some other meds. Never wanted to go on Methadone so went through medical detox over a dozen times and rehab like 5 or 6 times and by then the Suboxone was easier to get on the same way Methadone is. But I know Subs are a bitch to come off too so...
Thats great. The only shame about methadone from what I have been told is not everyone tolerates it. Some people get very hot on it and have side effects. I have heard a lot of addicts stories and I still think there is a place for a heroin program and maybe subsitute meds like in europe they use heroin programs and oral morphine. Then they move them to just morphine when they are ready. They also get them jobs find them housing and counceling to help put their lives back together. Switzerland has one of the most successful drug treatment models in the world.
But good for you. I have only ever had strong pain killers for injuries from a car accident they were tough to stop and it hurt a lot but I wasnt dealing with the emotional effects of 10 plus years of addiction and what I assume is a lot of ptsd that goes with it. Mainly because western governments make addicts go through hells they normally wouldnt find themselves in like jail and needing a lot of money to support an addiction. It is a crime the way they treat you all. I wish you well.

I girl that used to go to school with me before she dropped out because of heroin addiction said to me one time: “its not hard going through withdrawal, it sucks but it passes, the worst part comes after that, where do I go ? What do i do ? After your life is all about getting that fix, you forget how to live a life bigger than that.”
Recovery is much much bigger than just getting clean. And drug is not the only issue these people have every day.

Bravo!!! So well put smh. I've been on opiates for years. I can stop and yeah the withdrawal lasts about 3-5 days but I just feel EMPTY and sad w/out it. Chasing the drug, calling ppl to find it, goin to the trap house.... It all became part of my life and routine. Idk I just get so bored I ALWAYS relapse smh it sounds stupid to someone who hasn't been through it

He should definitely write his biography. Dude’s very articulate. In spite of everything that he’s experienced & everything that he’s witnessed, against all odds, he has a good heart & real strength of character. Also, he seems to be very intelligent. Unfortunately, being addicted to what he’s addicted to will kill him.

Devin and most people that are on drugs, especially fentanyl/heroin, don’t want to be on them. They just can’t get through the withdrawal to get off.

This guy, is like many addicts I know. He's very well spoken, handsome, and can tell a good tale.. Probably all true. He's smart and personable. He could really go places. This is what was said about me for the 30 years I shot Heroin. I always heard
" you're so smart and pretty, you could do so much"! Finally, after wasting 30 years, I'm clean ( well, on methadone) for 8 years.

@@rachelcole8765 Unless you have been on opiates please do not scold Jewel...Methadone can help a heavy opiate addict tremendously. The user does not have to commit crimes or obsess about getting money to buy street opiates. Yes methadone is addictive but it's an opioid agonist. It helps with pain relief as well. It definitely curbs cravings and clearly methadone saved Jewel's life.

@@Mischabelle87 I was on opiates because of serious medical problems and several surgeries in a row ! I went of them and was on Methadone for 2 weeks ! Staying on Methadone for 8 tears is not needed to get off of drugs ,but if it's your only way it's better than being on Heroin !
Crazy I been off fentynal for 9 months now, I love my life now I pray everyday I never go back.

Mouse I feel great, blessed, and grateful. Yes medication has helped me a lot. I’m currently in the second step of recovery and that’s getting off the medication.
Good for you, man. I know that medication assisted treatment can definitely work! I’ve seen it. It just takes dedication to your sobriety. I don’t know you of course, but I’m rooting for you. Sounds like you’re doing the right things.

Pretty well-spoken for a guy who abused drugs all his life. He even has a certain quality about him, possibly a career in acting.

acting? the same type of idealistic people makes these ridiculous comments over and over again. he/she is so pretty/handsome, they could be a model, they could be an actor...do you seriously know how many people who actually HAVE talent AND drive, are young, healthy,, motivated, have experience in theater and have dedication to practice, go on long auditions with hundreds at casting calls, patiently waiting their turn to shine on the spot only to be rejected again and again, show up to a job every day ,and make some really low wages waiting for their big break, feast or famine employment, working as waiters or parking cars? Do you REALLY think an addict can pull this off? What a set up to fail...how can a barely functioning addict do one of the hardest things that is granted to very very few- be discovered as an actor... you must not understand this guys lifestyle and habits. Yes, he's well spoken and even has some charisma and real clarity that he's earned the hard way, but if he keeps doing what he's doing, he wont last long, actually, with the way he's going, he'll probably end up back in prison jonesing in a cement cell...ex felon making/passing counterfeit money, credit card fraud,, ripping off stores ..possibly a CAREER IN ACTING??? Did you even listen to this guy?
i agree 100%. This guy is so natural in front of the camera, I thought I was watching a short film. I almost didn't think it was real. If someone could take this guy under his or her wing and get him clean then put him behind the camera, he would excel. He has true star quality, IMHO.
RN Kim a lot of actors and celebrities are addicts. Many addicts use drugs in order to keep the substance in their system and to function, rather to maintain a high too. I’d definitely say you’re overreacting. I bet you’d have a hard time picking some addicts out from a crowd

Leena, reversing stuff is something that rarely applies to developmental issues in life. You can overcome things, but as neurologists say, "fire together, wire together": you can't undo the paths that your neurons have created by walking back the road when a pattern has been formed in the map of your brain. When a habit has been formed, you can't just eliminate it, but rather need to replace it. The situation regarding his father goes way beyond the gravity of any habit and unfortunately enough, in this case that relationship is no other than a catch-22. Why? One of the most decisive factors in overcoming addiction (once an addict, always an addict, but you can stay sober) is the possibility of relying on a family member or someone who matches the intensity of that kind of relationship. He has only formed such a strong bond with his POS father, who seems to be not only a powerful enabler, but a toxic and addictive factor himself as a person. Imagine how hard it can be to overcome addiction when the most important factor to achieve success is, in this particular case, the strongest influence in the history of his illness and in the present time as well. If he was on his own, he would be in a truly dramatic situation, but he'd still be better off than he is with such a father as the strongest human connection ever known to him. It breaks my heart the fact that when he describes his feelings for his father it sounds just like he was describing the very same drug that could take his life away. It's a shame, because he's a pretty lucid guy (opiates don't just fry your brain making you stupid and unless you find the user high above the sky, strung out or long-term deprived of basic health care, he'll be as sharp as he'd be if he wasn't going through addiction).

All these people, whenever he asks "where do you see yourself in 5 years," they get such a sad, wistful look in their eyes. In their mind's eye, they probably are looking at the future for the first time in years because they live such a moment-by-moment life. It breaks my heart. I'm glad the interviewer asks them that question. If anything plants a seed in their minds, that question will.
This is a stage in his life, one of many, but it doesn't mean that it is what makes him! It is an experience and just like we learn at different stages of our youth...how to walk, talk, etc. It's baby steps progression! He needs to truely see to invest in himself instead of making the "bad" investments. Get up and love yourself (educate yourself in as many ways as possible) you deserve it "Be your BEST SELF"!

Andrew Nguyen that’s what opiates do man lol. Of all the guys I met in rehab, the opiate addicts like myself, all the 40 50yr olds looked like mid 30’s or so. And all the mid 30’s crack or meth addicts looked like 40 or 50 lol.

This guy describes his father as his best friend, like a brother, not realizing his father was the very devil, his demise. This guy had just graduated high school and was trying to get sober, he was at the very beginning of his life. And then his "dad" picked him up at the airport.
Dad aren't suppose to be friends. They are suppose to be dads. No devils no god no of that crap. Plan and simple.

Alex looks like a young Christopher Walker. So very candid & transparent; what you see is what you get. Very affable, handsome, engaging, and addicted. He’s had a rough life but he still has an opportunity to turn it around. I sure hope he reaches deep to that indomitable spirit we all have, and allows it to carry him forward to persevere. It’s within us all to succeed or fail. We write our own outcomes.
This guy is smart, handsome, young ... I hope he makes it out. He's almost too smart for his own good though with all his hustles.
Shelly D Exactly what I thought. His storytelling is captivating. He chooses his words wisely.. he just wasn’t given the best start and made bad choices and got comfortable in those bad choices.
His hustles are normal addict behavior. All of us did that to stay well everyday. I was using $200/day without a job for many years. Been away from it for 10 years

It's not that this young mans father doesn't care about him...He doesn't know how too because his father doesn't even know how to take care of himself first.
There's a part where he talks about this guy's dad contributing to his downfall and he said that's where he said he related to him. He did.
Even through all that awful stuff, he’s got a really clear conscience still... hopefully he can make a better life for himself outside if his father’s influence

Reminds me so much of my cousin. Lost him in 2016 at 30 years old. Always in and out of trouble, but one of the most capable and charismatic people I’ve known. He cared greatly for people, but couldn’t overcome his addiction.
Finally someone Who knows they can't overcome addictions alone, admitting you need help Is the first step.
He seems like an extremely resourceful person and like an artist of hustling
if he only could redirect his energies against the addiction... I really hope he can make it and also write a book about it, he's a great storyteller
I don't think most people know what a serious addiction is like, he reminds me of a guy I knew that was a drug addict and starting prostituting, he learned the art of the hustle, tell people what they want to hear and make some cash to buy the drugs. he came over a couple times saying he was going to dry out and he needed a place to stay, he got nightmares so bad he would wake up screaming and covered in sweat, he would scratch at his arms til he bled, but after a couple of days he would leave, it was just too hard for him to quit.

@@bebopbountyhead i think it was mostly i'm not a rehab center, they knock them out with other stuff while the dts are kickiing in. i stopped smoking and drinking, and those were hard enough, what he was going through was next level.

Basic mental development through introspection shows that you define difficulty through your thoughts. If you don't define your thoughts, then you don't control anything you do, and as such you cannot make any arguments for or against anything. That way lies the nihilism train to hell, and I know that you can do better than that, just as we all can. How do I know? I know because otherwise I can't know anything, which is a self-refuting argument.
It's sad that there are hundreds of thousands of "parents" out there that absolutely no business being parents. They have ruined their children's lives
Maybe the parents were not perfect but good enough. This addict had a choice, he chose heroin. But he will blame any and all before hell accept responsibility. Typical addict.

I wish they were follow ups on these people... after listening to their whole life story I feel a connection to them. I want to see everyone winning, I don’t want to see anyone dead.
There are a few follow ups. Not many though.
I am Alex’s long time ex girlfriend his family and myself have been trying to help him and locate him. It’s nearly impossible. New number every call... Alex needs help but he needs to want the help and maybe telling his story for real can get him the help to save his life.

xolgamx thank you. Yes, a lot was left out and a lot had played out different in his head than what really happened. I haven’t heard from Alex since around this video and producers have not reached out to me despite trying to reach out to them. Can only do so much... :(

Another interview with a subject that despite all of the self inflicted damage he has done to himself still has a very good head on his shoulders. It’s tragic that the parallel thread in just about every interview you do is childhood trauma/abandonment. I hope he sees the light and gets himself on track since my feeling is this guy could do anything he sets his mind to if he can find a way to believe in himself.
Alex has a very likable personality. I hope he's able to get his life together.

helping manage money is different to taking money, some addicts are useless with money, paying bills as it all goes on drugs. It can be seen as really helping somebody have a roof over their head and food a small chance of a leg up from rock bottom.

I went to grade school and high school with Alex. He was one of the nicest most genuine kids growing up... He's the classic example of you are what your environment is... He grew up with the wrong father and wrong friends... And that completely changed what direction he was going in life. No one from school has heard from Alex for years.. I'm glad to see he's alive. I hope he gets the help he needs. We love you Alex

Alex is clearly a very smart guy. He's always been the smartest one around, he's always been able to out-wit everyone around him and enjoy the easy life getting high. It's sad to see how much of his life is being wasted though, as for even the smartest and most successful, or most famous or popular, whoever you are, the addiction will catch up with you. If he could get clean he could do so much more with his life, if he put even half his intelligence and energy into an entrepreneurial pursuit rather than a criminal one.. he could be a very successful man.
I think he knows he's at a stage in his life where he has to make a choice. Subconsciously this is why he is cut off from both his family and mother, and his father. He knows he needs to make a choice between these two sides, he loves his father but deep down he knows hes not good for him, he will drag him back down into this world over and over and if he wants make a better life and save himself he has to let go of his Dad. It's heartbreaking, and he's probably drowning out his pain with the fent, but he has to make the right choice soon or he will never get out. I hope he can love himself and believe in himself enough to make the right choice, I believe he can.
why do we need to default to being successful? admittedly he's likely not living life to the best he could be, but why is it such a shame that he doesn't give a shit about money or business?
@@xbigsoup Success is very subjective. It doesn't have to be defined by exuberant wealth or an envious career. It can also be the ability to provide for yourself while surrounded by people who genuinely care about you. I think this guy still has the potential to at least have that kind of success. But first he needs to tackle whatever he's dealing with because drugs are clearly a symptom of some deep rooted issues and it may not even be something he's fully aware of if he's never talked to someone about.

jowys, i think being successful dosnt need to be becoming wealthy or famous but it can be doing something that can make others happy or be helpful to others and remember to keep yourself happy and live your own life to the best way you can as you only live once

I think what i said can be slightly misinterpreted when I said about entrepreneurial pursuits, I don't mean specifically just wealth and "job title". I think of people running their own small cafe as an example of an entrepreneurial success but thats not all about making a shit ton of money, its more about being able to provide for yourself and be happy with what your doing. I just get the feeling from Alex that he could be successful at whatever he wants to do, and like J.A said, he firstly needs to care more about himself and surround himself with people that care about him as well.
I see the pain in this young man. Although addiction does not chose only ones who has had trauma, he had a very hard childhood. Every addict is someone’s child. Recovery is possible but not everyone is able to keep it, addiction is a very patient thing. No one chooses to live like this. He does show self respect.
Never judge an addict, they just might be the one that saves someone you love.

Damien Holland plausibility doesn’t account for much. I’ve known people like this. It is equally as likely that this is true, partly true, or completely made up. Equally as likely. I mean that. It could be true, but it’s just as likely it’s all lies. It’s sad. In order to be a full time drug addict you HAVE to lie....all the time, every day all day. Eventually with continued drug use and repeated stories of excuses of why you are where you are turns into this convoluted, confused story of a life where nothing is their fault....and then they start to believe it. They’re not bad people, just broken ones. It’s hard to fix unfortunately

I raised my kids with all my love and tried to give them the best home I could. This was in the mid 70’s through the 80s. I gave them as much as I could. I was young. I was 25 when my 3 child was born. Sadly, I did not realize how easily children could be hurt emotionally. Even though we were a close family, I didn’t realize back then how important their parents were to them. My husband and I fought a lot and I knew this was bad for my children, but I thought having divorced parents would be worse. I think this generation of young parents knows more about parenting the right way. I wish SO MUCH that I could go back in time and be a better parent. I lost my only son when he was 17 to a heroin/cocaine overdose even though he went to a rehab facility for 30 days. He was kicked out for running away. My husband and I never smoked or drank or took any illegal drugs. I believe my son used drugs because he was in pain- depressed that his father was away so much because of his job. His older sisters had their own lives and I worked full time. My son missed how our family had been- everyone home to eat dinner together. He told me once, “at least I have my friends.” So I blame my husband and I for his death. I lost him 21 years ago and the pain of losing him and missing him hurts as much today as it did 21 years ago. His death affected all of us so very much, especially because we were all close. Non of us will ever be the same.

(Widow with 2 kids on a farm here) My son used to complain because I cooked from scratch and every now and then he wanted a microwave meal. We would go to town at an all-you-can eat restaurant only on their birthdays. We were dead broke but we ate every meal together and watched tv only on one tv. It was hard as hell - especially when they became teens because teens don’t like their parents, and it was all on me.
Like you, I didn’t drink or do drugs (as an escape,) so it was hard, as you well know. As a parent, you can only do the very best and hope they turn out good. But you have no control. You don’t. We all know that. Grief is never going to go away, but you can control your own “guilt trip.” I used to just drive myself nuts thinking, “If only we hadn’t been stationed in America, his jet wouldn’t have malfunctioned…” (Their father died before my youngest was born.) I learned to stop the negative thoughts and, trust me, it takes some time and homework, but in the end you replace the negative thoughts or guilt trips with images of how nice it is in Heaven and watch for their signs they are sending down from Heaven. But most of all, I thought, “What if I had gone first? How would I have wanted my husband and boys to be? Engulfed in their grief, riddled with guilt?” I would have been up there shouting down, “IT’S FKING AMAZING UP HERE, STOP IT…” That was the truth. If you watch any CZcams videos on near death experiences you will see how when life ends you are surrounded by peace and love! All is forgiven and you’re not with a judgmental man with an iron rod. It’s pure love and peace, and that is where he is. Make your son happy - by being happy - and thinking of the time when he holds out his hand to escort you to Heaven. I grew up in a very unstable household during my adolescent years. Mom and dad were teens when they had us so they essentially grew up with us. They partied a lot and did a lot of crazy shit. We grew up exposed to all kinds of shit. Had lots of traumas. As a teen, my pops was like my best friend, used to do drugs and party with him. I became an addict in my younger years and struggled throughout my life. I related so much to Alex. Parents are supposed to protect and encourage you, not introduce you to drugs and enable you. I had a rough ass life but somehow I've overcome the craziness. And got sober! 6 years clean! I seen someone post that Alex is in recovery. If you ever read this Alex.... you're EXTREMELY intelligent, you're still young and you got your whole life ahead of you. Some of us are just dealt a bad hand at birth. But ultimately YOU are in control of your life, you're the captain of your ship. Create a beatiful voyage for yourself because YOU DESERVE IT! I hope you get clean, stay clean and do big things!!! You got thissssss! 💪 ❤️ 🙏
I really like Alex - he is very intelligent and expresses himself so incredibly well. He is so genuine. I truly hope he can find that substitute he is looking for (unfortunately, being "happy" 100% of the time is not part of the human condition and he currently has a syringe full of instant "happiness"). I am so glad I clicked this. My story although quite different and unique in its own right. ..it unfortunately has come to this EXACT season. As Alex spoke and romanticized his addiction and certain tidbits of his past- I related enormously. So much so as I attempt to reflect and speak about it now- it's rather difficult to say the least. ... my heart aches so tremendously , as I just listened to a complete stranger explain away exact feelings I've felt , moments I've endured, facial expressions I've made describing this lifestyle to pauses in sentences here and manic rambling there. Anyways before I go on to bore or give of vibes of poor me and ugly attention seeking ....I will cut it short with that. And end by thanking both Alex and yourselves for him sharing and you spreading knowledge and awareness of something society not only despises but truly misunderstand. I wish I could go into more detail but my head is still spinning after watching this- and although in my mind I can articulate perfectly -for me to explain and put the words here---well let's just say would just be grammatical chaos.
I don't even know if ANY OF that made sense...but I am not going to erase a thing. If ANYTHING at all I wanted to share how this Man and this Interview shook my soul. I would give anything to have the chance to sit beside him and almost in a way reassure him- I too am numbing away some of the same pains ...but why are we hurting ourselves over hurting?!this is NOT how we are supposed to live-which is made blatantly clear by the hardships, rejections abandonment and the like....yes there were WILD days!!...but I'm sure as with my 'biography' they were few and far between with the last handful of years becoming each one harder than the last.

This guy reminds me of this person I fell in love with. I loved him, he loved coke. I thought he loved me, he loved that I bought him coke. He came from a good family too, grandparents escaped Germany during wwll and came to this country w nothing, long story short when the Grandpa died he left millions behind. The guy I loved was articulate and kind, charming and funny, I hope hes ok in his life and doing something with it, everyone is pretty much done with him, addicts tend to burn even their last bridge if it means they can get high.
That's why drugs are evil. Damaged, vulnerable people use them to ease the pain but they begin a dance with the devil. I suppose the evil is that they rob people of thinking long-term, setting goals and making meaningful relationships.
@@lucyhanna5172 really, addiction is "repeated relief-seeking behavior". Everyone on here is trying to fill the holes in their heart, and drugs are both fairly easy to get and work *really well* in the short term. Unfortunately they- inevitably- fuck up *everything* in the long-run.
I have yet to see anyone here who grew up in a functional, non-harmful household. They're really all still just broken children that aged, but never grew or flourished the way they could have. It's possible the parents were broken children as well, and much of this is intergenerational. People can be so cruel though, it really boggles the mind.
It’s obvious this young man was deprived of parenting, values, morals, goals etc., yet through all he’s seen, done, & been through his profound, deep-seated & incessant yearning for his father’s love & approval will sadly never come to fruition. I pray he’s able to put his current lifestyle to bed, ultimately finding peace.

Not really his sentences are peppered with so many "likes", " "you know what i mean" and incorrect prepositional phrases, it's cringe-worthy. I guess it's a matter of the type of people one associates with for comparing intellectual levels. Hope he does find someone who'll give him a chance , get him into treatment and get correct his con-artist, street hustler ways before it's too late. It seems he still has family who could help if he'd learn to get out of the "hustle mind set."

Cera Emm no I completely disagree. I used to be addicted to fentanyl myself. If it had been hours since his last shot he'd be very sick right now, fentanyl lasts only 2 hours. Opiates do not affect everyone the same. Most of the true opiate addicts I meet (myself included) are actually sped up by opiates. It makes us more focused and able to present almost perfectly, a common experience and shared by many I've met. I'd bet money that he had a shot literally right before this interview
I’m stuck on carfentanyl right now. I don’t expect to alive much longer.. it sucks when u feel ur life being pulled away from you little by little. I feel like it’s close to being finally taken from me. I’m scared, this sucks. I can’t quit using. The withdrawals are too bad.

He can’t keep feeling guilty. Look man, my mother was an addict and both my brothers were addicts. They did a lot of bad shit too. Years of stealing and in and out of jail.....but we still love them.
Your sister wanted you on her plan, she’s trying to stay connected to you. She loves you.
You don’t HAVE to be caught in this cycle. And the more you feel guilt the more you’ll keep doing what you are doing.

Both my brothers are several years sober now. My brother, Tripp, is in Cali and he’s in the death metal scene and the music helps him let out all of the rage.
My mom is dead due to addiction.
My brothers also thought they couldn’t do it, but they did. It took several tries. It wasn’t a one hit wonder. But they did it.
Listen kid, you’re smart. You are obviously intelligent and charming and you can make use of those. You’ve seen the people on those streets. You know you have the ability to just fucking face your demons.
But you can’t fight and win if you don’t even show up to the ring.
