  • Micro Jigging and Spearfishing in Bimini Bahamas is INCREDIBLE | Offshore Micro Jigging | JohnnyJigs
It’s always exciting to cross the Atlantic into Bimini. The weather was perfect and I was pretty pumped to drop a jig on the other side of the pond. The seas were calm enough for us to cruise 30 knot in Zach’s 25’ Bluewater. We were just loaded down with gear food and ice.
When fishing in Bimini you think of trolling for wahoo or deep dropping for yellow eye, not micro jigging. We just received a huge shipment of micro jigs at Johnny Jigs and I knew we were going to be shallow so these guys could dive and I wanted to give micro jigging a shot. There was not a cast that I sent out and was not tight on something.
In Bimini the drop off is incredible. You can go from 60-1200 feet in a matter of minutes while drifting. This drop off goes for miles and miles and is a great spot to troll for wahoo. I have caught wahoo trolling at 8 knots and I have caught them going 18 knots. The difference is the faster you go the more ground you cover, the more ground you cover the better your chances of getting into a school of wahoo. We put back a few trolling lures locked the boat in at about 16 knots and we got tight.
This island we stayed at is nothing short of incredible. It is undeveloped. You can hear nature see the stars and all seriousness it’s just plain relaxing. We did not hold back anything. I’m talking about we lit a bon fire on the beach through lobster steak and fish on the grill, and we thought it be a good opportunity to compare Yellow Jack to Wahoo and see which one is better sushi.

Damn that is awesome. As a noob spearo myself, I have so far only seen spearguns. What kind of spear are these guys using? Could anyone point me to some more information about those? (like, when to use one over the other etc)

Hey David, That is awesome about your father. It is a private island. I'm not sure exactly the name, but it is in the area of Cat Cay.
