Thanks to everyone who's subscribed, just passed the 7000 mark. Quick look at the 1948 Diamond T 509S. Added the fender and grill to get an idea of the space I have available for the Detroit 4-53T.:)
Yeah, you definitely need a cab extension, like an 'extended' cab truck --1/2cab. It would make such a more comfortable roomy interior for you and a passenger with extra room in back for jump seats or a small bench. And like you said it'd be better proportionally too. A true crew cab 4 door would be really sweet but thats a lot more work with 2 additional doors to deal with(you do have the extra cab to do it with, I'd say shrink back doors a lil tho?). Idk man how deep you wanna get into this project? I'll be waiting & watching for the progress to come. You definitely have the proper frame setup to start from tho! This is gonna be epic! Dual 5" chrome stacks up the back of the cab would look so nice too!👍🏻👌🏻🤔🛠️🔧🔩⛓️🚜⚡💥💨💨⚠️🛢️🚧 Happy Easter 🐰🐣
Thanks, lot's of options on this build.:) I'll figure out what I'm doing with the cab once I get it and the engine positioned.:) Happy Easter to you as well.:)
Thanks for the fill in on the build. The Spicer aux trans is a great idea.I gather the Ford chassis has park brake on the rear wheels.A park brake on the back of the Spicer will be a pain to deal with.
Congrats on the 7K subs!!!!! Just cut the front off the 35 and add it to the front one and have a 4 door and you get the rear window. It's coming along nicely!!! Thanks!
You inspired me to put that 377 Pete on my f450 chassis. Already has a Cummins l10 w/ 653 auto so it will be fun on that front end. No rear axle so I think I'm going to find a truck one and run air rear brakes. The rear axle is the only thing I'd have to buy.
Nice idea for an old truck build. The modern chassis "should" be trouble free for getting parts, as opposed to far more scarce Diamond T parts. Looking forward to seeing this progress.
I considered the old frame and then finding modern running gear for it, but decided to start with a modern frame and running gear. I think in the end it will result in a better truck.:) Happy Easter.:)
Following the local auctions for the last little while, it is obvious from a cost AND reliability standpoint that it makes perfect sense if you can get a reasonably cheap rolling chassis. It also cuts the restoration process in half. If "originality" is no concern, but building a "project" vehicle, def the way to go.
@@detroitgarage9430 It would definitely be something. Wonder what type of transmission the 192 series used and how many of them were actually manufactured in the different configurations. I know there is a super rare Mack truck that used the 16v192 but have never seen the 20v192. Can you imagine 192 cubic inches vs 71 or 92? 😁
@@heatherbrown2761 I'm not sure, but most were probably running electric gen sets. Used in mining and rail from what I can find.:) I'm sure one could adapt a 13, 15, or 18 speed to one.:)
I've tried fitting the 6V53 before and it just won't fit. It's way too wide and the hood won't close near the grill area. For it to fit I'd have to move the 6V53 back into the cab. The 4-53T is about the best option I have and I'll hopefully get by without cutting the fire wall.:) Here's a test fit with the 6V53.:) czcams.com/video/iIsjW9Tx9Mc/video.html
Yes, they're an Alcoa copy and some Alcoa sold by a few truck. I'm trying to get a used set as the new ones are pricey.:) Here's the link I found for them. buytruckwheels.com/collections/ford-450-550-10?constraint=22-5-wheels
The 22.5" rims are for the hole set front and rear, not sure about the front axle alone.:) Here's the link I found for them.:) buytruckwheels.com/collections/ford-450-550-10?constraint=22-5-wheels
I too, am looking forward to more of this build. That's a nice engine size choice too.
It's going to be a lot of fun that's for sure.:)
Thank you for all of your content, you helped inspire me to get a 2008 6.4L F250
You're welcome.:)

Yes the Ford has a park brake.:)

That would be awesome, the 378 fit pretty nice.:) Being you have most of the parts it would be fairly easy to swap.:)

@@snoman003 Very true, I still have the original chassis, but when the project is finished it's up for sale.
There are a few companies that make super single 20" wheels for that truck.
Wheel adapters are kinda sketchy at best!
Looking forward to your build!
Thanks, I might have a lead on some 22.5 rims that will fit, so I should know in a week or so.:) True, I'm not a fan of hub adapters.:)
Just found your channel and your doing a REO with a Detroit,, you just got another subscriber,, very cool
Thanks for the sub.:) This is going to be a fun project.:)
👍
You need to get your hands on a Detroit 16v192 or 20v192 and figure out something sick to put that beast in 🤤
True, I've seen a few 12V71's as well as 24V71's for sale. They are huge and really only work on full class 8 frames.:) Would really be something.:)

a 6v53 would be nice. shorter and you might not have to cut into the firewall

Could you attach the cab of the 37 to the back of the 48? Make it a crew cab!!
Yes, but I think it would look better as an extended cab.;) Far easier as well to make an extended cab vs crew cab.:)
They make 22.5s for the ford lug pattern? Ik they make 19.5 alcoas, haven't seen 22.5
