    My biggest complaint when I first drove the ISF was that the exhaust was too quiet. On today's episode, we're addressing that for FREE.

    Wow man, it's amazing how much better she sounds without the mufflers. I've always appreciated a low and deep rumble so this hits home for me. Great job awaking the passion from that exhaust.

  • @davidg2910
    @davidg2910 Před 4 lety +59

    The quad tips are somewhat functional. The stock exhaust has 4 tips that exit out of the 4 diffuser tips. The diffuser tips have a small scoop on the back that scoops air from under the car, mixes it with the exhaust fumes, and runs it out through the bumper to avoid melting the bumper. Muffler delete sounds great. I recommend PPE headers and Joe Z exhaust.

      also, if someone was to hit you from behind, a real exhaust wouldn't crumple on impact all the way to the transmission etc.

    At 5:18, you can see where the exhaust flattens out... The same design on the SC430 but its crimped down even more.. Its down to a little over 1" believe it or not.. I originally thought it was to provide a little more backpressure for low-end torque. The exhaust was restrictive in a few other spots as well, but I addressed it with a custom true-dual exhaust, using universal magnaflow mufflers and kept the resonator. I found out that the car lost no power shortly after the work was done and the crimped spot at the Y was gone. The exhaust shop thought Toyota did this to make a little more room around the IRS/pumpkin, and allow that area of the exhaust to be closer to the car frame.
    Eventually I had a hole develop in one of my magnaflows due to bad welding, so I had it fixed. After listening to the exhaust, I wanted to try removing the resonator later on. Few months past that, and my 2009 SC430 was totaled on the front, so the exhaust was cut off and moved to my 2006 SC430 replacement that was actually in far better shape and in blue which is not the easiest to find. When the shop moved the exhaust over, the modified a few bends for better flow, removed the resonator, and then I had the install single chamber Flowmasters.. lol.. It fucking sounded unbelievable, and when I left the shop a couple of years ago I was certain I was going back to have them install a new resonator, but I have still not had it done yet. The car is no longer a daily driver, and I use it for pleasure and have played around with mods. One of these days I need to put up a video of the exhaust - its absolutely ridiculous and catches too much attention and as much as I enjoy it the drone is overwhelming when the top is down... Its actually a good deal louder than the car was without any mufflers. I cannot imagine what these flowmasters would sound like on the larger ISF 5.0 engine with no resonator.
    I kept the totaled 2009 and parted it out.. I have the power train and IRS aside with the engine on a stand, and working on improving the older 3UZ 4.3 V8. Picking up stronger and longer rods, and better pistons to make something that it more in the 4.7 to 5.0 range. All the other obvious intake and head/valve work, trans and torque converter, PPE headers, etc, and then finding a way to mount a universal turbo/intercooler kit on it, but nothing over 6-8psi. The current 2006 model has some mods and its not too much over 300hp but definitely faster than stock.
    We also have a BMW 328 X-drive, which is currently at 78k and when it gets closer to 100k, I am going to pick up an ISF to replace it.. I have been eye-balling the listings, and recently found one for around 19-20K with 130k or so miles in great shape but with a few dings and few scratches on the paint.

This auto is great, and the fact that it came out in 2008 is mind blowing to me.

    IMO KEEP HEADERS STOCK AND DO AN AXLE BACK SET UP. 💯

    • @TheDavcrz5
      @TheDavcrz5 Před 4 lety

      Axel back waste of money no performance benefit and not that much louder that stock. Headers by far give you the biggest increase in actual HP. When headers are combined with catback exhaust that when you gain a significant amount of horsepower and torque as well as serious sounding exhaust. If you just do headers and leave stock exhaust you get bump in hp not as much if with went with catback but your level will be more muted. Also stock manifolds are know for cracking. I've owed my 2011 ISF since it was new also 10yrs now. I've been FBO for 9yrs and Tuned for last several yrs. No issues with PPE headers or JoeZ exhaust.

      @@is4life862 I've watched all of his videos and communicated with him several time regarding his videos here on CZcams. He has mastered launching his car in 1/8 mile races. He wins most of his race because he has tons of seat time and knows how to launch his car. He himself state he has significant amount of time at his local track. It doesn't mean you can duplicate his feats? unless you spend a lot of time at track like he does or did he was selling his ISF but he was there nearly weakly.
      I'm not some numb I'm 56yr old, have been driving sports cars for 38yrs have owned all sorts of performance cars from America muscle, European, and JDM cars. I've owned my 2011 ISF since Is was brand new nearly 10yrs agos. I'm FBO RR Racing Tune and Tuned intake running E30 blend figs engineering RRRACING Sikky compents as well as two suspension KWv3 coilovers and Airlift3H. Currently on Airlift 3H. With these mods it allows ISF to stay competitive against modern cars such as s550 Mustang GT, RCF, SS Camaro, Stingray C7 vettes, GSF, 392 Chargers even stock M4's and other modern and older performance cars. A stock ISF does not stand chance against any of these cars if driver of newer or older higher hp car has equal skill level driver to driver. Its driver that's the most important part of any cat no matter hp or tech it has but some times it can just be pure hp advantage.
      But when facing opponent of equal skill whether stock or FBO it becomes now which car is more capable. If you like to cruise along with occasional WOT. then back to cruising along or happy with performance of stock ISF which is still a very capable and fun cars to drive on street or track yeah then stock is cool and there or advantage of remaining stock. But if your competitive and want to maximize the cars performance potential then by all means do what you like. FBO or just catback, perhaps FBO plus Tune. Especially if you racing your car at 1/4,1/2, 1 mile events, runway races or highway pulls against modern cars a stock ISF wouldn't stand chance against these newer cars with equal drivers.
      Now FBO Tune and Tuned intake ISF can be extremely competitive against cars that have 12 plus yrs newer tech and hp advantage such launch control, awd, higher hp then stock ISF. Most of these newer cars all start around 450hp and go up from there in todays performance cars. So it depends what you want to do your expectations. Can experience driver in stock ISF beat inexperienced diver in newer or higher hp car? yes absolutely. But it's driver skill level that won not car. If Two experience drivers with same skill level race let say stock ISF against any modern higher hp car like let say 10 speed automatic paddle shifter S550 479hp and 442tq with Ford cold air performance kit it's just $1200 option 90% of owner have them. Against 416hp and 371tq on stock ISF doing roll race on highway up top the ISF will do well but just not enough to hold off S550 Mustang. Now FBO tuned ISF running against FBO s550 thats race. Just look here on CZcams and watch race between ISF running these newer cars and see how well FBO Tune some with E85 do against these same s550 FBO Mustang and others. They are winning races especially on highways, runway and mile races events. That where ISF shines up top past 120mph mark up to 170mph or higher if you have speed limiter removes, it just pulls and pulls when FBO and Tuned.
      So it all depends on what your goals are. Some owner like to keep their cars relatively stock and that's cool I get. While others like to mod their cars, they are looking to maximize their cars potential. So to say you don't need to be FBO depends on owner expectations and goals are for his or her car. But to think stock ISF can keep up with new cars with equal drivers with same skill sets is interesting. Like I said I've owned my ISF for nearly 10yrs I know what's its capable of both in stock form with just JoeZ catback back, then PPE headers and JoeZ exhaust, now RR Racing Tune and Tuned intake that comes with larger MAF housings to allow for larger volume of air being pushed into motor using 7in K&N cone Velocity stack air filter along with E85. Believe me when I say there is night and day difference between two. Add RRRACING S/C now your in whole different category more in supercar territory with hp of 530hp to 780hp. So it's all about expectations and goals of individual owner👍.

Kind of like in the same way the the Nissan GTR six-pot sounds markedly different from the M3 straight six...and both are great icons.
