  • KIA warranty extension and recalls. How much time it takes the technician to jump through all the hoops in order to get the engine covered under warranty. How many warranty extensions are there? It there really a recall that will replace the engine for free? We are going to break down the What, How, and Why.

      P1326 on my 2015 Kia Soul. They performed a bearing clearance test on it, and it failed. Three weeks later, they give it back to me with a new (remanned) engine. I guess the only thing I can do now is be super diligent with the oil changes.

    Just retired from a JLR dealer ,and not soon enough , before that Saab .The ecotec 4 had 15 k oil change intervals and used Mobil 1 and never replaced any engine I recall . JLR's ingiium 4 have done well also with Castrol oil saw a few sludged up for lack of oil changes . Since 2020 went to 21k oil change interval can not imagine how that will work out . I was shocked that these rarely used any oil between services . Synthetic oil is key

    thanks so much for this video!! would love to see the swap process too. my dad has a 2013 optima that blew at 120k. had the ksds but didn't throw any sort of code. had it lock up on me while trying to diagnose stalling issues. they managed to get it to move again and start, but it locked up again during one of their tests, so it ended up being replaced thankfully. was interesting because it passed the bearing clearance test. im assuming it just had way too much friction to move much lol.

    • @ShopForemanGarage
      @ShopForemanGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      You're right. I've seen the same thing. They tend to come loose, but if it is starting to lock up, the bearing won't move at all and it could pass the bearing clearance test. If you can turn the crank by hand but, it takes more then 94lb. FT torque. Then KIA considers it locked up.

    • @bryce7566
      @bryce7566 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@ShopForemanGarage i honestly think it had been locking up for a couple weeks at that point too, because it kept stalling after giving it some rpms, but would start back up shortly after cooling down a little. good to know about the resistance measurement though!

    My 2017 Sorento 2.4l engine failed at 65k miles back in December and Kia covered it without any issues. It was out of service for 2 weeks and I had a rental. It was a seamless process. Thank you very much for sharing this information. I'm giving my Sorento to my son in a few months when he starts driving. I am very OCD about maintenance and I always have the oil changed religiously every 5k miles or 6 months at the Kia dealer, but the engine still failed very early. Do you think the replacement engines will suffer the same failure as the original engine?

    • @ShopForemanGarage
      @ShopForemanGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      Sometimes its like that. And yours was under powertrain warranty still. Unless it was out by time. I have a 2017 Sorento with a 2.0L turbo. And I always drive it like I stole it. I haven't had any issues yet. But, I'm always listening for that knock every time I cold start it.

    Please explain what the lighted cabinet drawer is be hind you at 14:55. Flat screen monitor laid flat in the drawer? Make and model of cabinet if possible. FYI, checking bearing clearances via a dial indicator is a little known procedure, anyone who did not know this pay attention.

      @ShopForemanGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      That is the KIA required tools, tool box. I have an upper drawer pulled out a little and my magnet light stuck under it and a lower drawer pulled out below it. It's a tool cabinet sent to us by KIA. I will try to get the brand or part number to you if I can find it.

    They say it's poor machining of the block that starves these engines of oil. Kias are cheap cars, so I suppose that makes sense. The risk increases exponentially when you don't stay on top of the oil changes.

  • @mitchellgast7272

    psychedelic = mushrooms lol, cyclic = repetitive....I'm now subscribed. As to Kia, this issue has cost a lot of people a lot of money as most dumped the vehicles well before the 14th recall. I feel bad for them as they where mostly people on a budget or trying to adhere to one by purchasing an economical vehicle and then got blindsided. I've seen these engines sound great and less than 500 miles later knock, seize or grenade and this is with good maintenance protocols...

    • @ShopForemanGarage
      @ShopForemanGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      I understand. It's a shame. When the vehicles started coming in (when the recall first came out) you could tell that the vehicles must have been sitting in peoples back yards or barns. A lot of the vehicles hadn't been on the road for a while.

    I have a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with the 2.4, and its on the eligible list. But there isn't anything wrong with it. It does burn a little oil - like a 1/2 quart every 4 fill ups. But no knocking and no codes being thrown. I'm right at 85k on it. Should I bother with it?

    • @ShopForemanGarage
      @ShopForemanGarage  Před měsícem

      I'm sure Hyundai has the same warranty extensions as KIA. I wouldn't worry about it. Don't let it run low on oil. Normal oil consumption for KIA is 1 quart every 1000 miles. Anything more, and if it is under warranty, KIA will do something about it. Must have oil change records and take it in for oil consumption test. 1/2 quart every 4 fill ups seems fine to me.

    Thank you for this deep dive! I have a 2013 Kia Optima SXL. 156,000 miles. I get oil changes every 6,000 miles and add oil myself after 3,000. It burns through oil very quickly. About a week ago my car cut out on the freeway after quick acceleration. I gave it a rest and turned it back on and it was working okay until today. Today, my engine light came on, limp mode, cant go over 60mph. My dad did a diagnostic check and code P1326 came up. My question is, if code P1326 popped up, does that mean my car had the KSDS update already? I bought this car in 2019 from carmax. If it already had the update and I take it into the dealer, they should be preforming the bearing clearing test? If my car fails that test, I should be due for a new engine? And does my mileage matter if I have been keeping up with maintenance? Is it lifetime warranty? Sorry for all the questions, just want to be prepared for when I take it to the Kia dealership.

    • @simonew08
      @simonew08 Před měsícem

      To summarize, at 14:23 in your video, I understand code P1326 wouldn’t pop up unless I already have the update. Is this correct?
      And at 52:22, are you saying I should be covered under “warranty extension” as far as my mileage if all the other criteria such as oil levels are met?

    • @ShopForemanGarage
      @ShopForemanGarage  Před měsícem +1

      Some warranty extensions expire. Some do not. If it has a P1326 then it does have the KSDS logic improvement done. Take it to the dealer and see what happens.
