Dang he really beat Schafrillas to the punch
Exactly what I thought
I mean to be fair this ranking is kinda bite sized with each track explanation, Schaff probably wants to go into all the details on his opinions
@@FrenzyProgramand that’s why he’s the goat
@@FrenzyProgramhe should really make two videos. He gets hype for both, he can rank half the battle tracks and have a cliffhanger, each part won't be too long
@@CrypticKnight10absolutely.
Moving down mount wario from S to A is unforgivable and sums up how I feel about this whole tier list
Absolutely right without question. I will now join you on the hill that we will die on, which is Mount Wario.
It's because he bases his rating on his emotions/emotional attachment to the tracks, not on the actual structure and level design. So cringe imo.
@@jayandjlps8022 Man doesn't understand the point. If everyone did their ratings analytically, we'd only have one tier list. And that's so cringe imo
But also yes that movement killed my soul
Lols! I came straight to the comment section to say the same thing 😂 He put it in S at the start and I was like “Okay, we’re all good,” and then he took it out at the end. I felt so betrayed 🤣
Singapore Speedway convinced me we need a Rainbow Road that goes down through a city instead of staying in space. Imagine those rainbow fountains and colorful buildings working with that idea.
What about a rainbow city with Lumas?
YES! Nintendo could go further with the ideas they showed in the MK8 version of N64 and how they had the city underneath everything. I’d love to trick off of skyscrapers and have the actual road be intertwined with the cityscape
Yeah now that we've done deep space in MK8 there's nowhere else to go, may as well head back to Earth
I'd love one that does a bit of everything. Consider the city below N64 Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8!
Start way up in the sky, then a steep, fast descent into the city, under the tower, back around, into the sea, then FIRED back up into the sky, maybe a corner that's a section from N64 Rainbow Road with the rest in the background, then back to the top of the crest with the starting line.
The booster course pass really reminded me just how incredible the base 8 tracks are. I mean no disrespect to the DLC, I really did like the DLC, but MAN those OG 8 tracks are just so great.
Opposite for me. The BCP really made me feel more justified with the weird sensation of "why does this game just bore me to death" that MK8 always gave me given it really does feel like it worked to fix the game to me... Particularly by adding Kamek, Pauline, and Diddy Kong. To me, there's only a handful of tracks from OG 8 I like, most prominently Electrodome and Hyrule Circuit. However, I feel like the overall package is amazing now for 8DX.
I still think 8DK has a severe lack of Kart options though, and thats the biggest thing that really makes me hesitate saying if its my #1 MK still. theres not a single DK themed vehicle for instance. Tour really did make me feel like 8DK is lacking in karts compared to some older games
@@JacobNintendoNerd99I’m the same. Might be recency bias and the fact we’ve played the MK8 tracks for years but I preferred the cities and the Tour retros they brought over in the BCP than the base game. Happily brought them in with open arms.
@@rebirthphoenix5646 Well, I don't even think I prefer the Tour tracks, just the retros, and I'm able to I think articulate an example of why.
Take Mount Wario for example... What the hell does it even have to do with Wario? It has his logo around the course but it doesn't even have a lot of his face or anything.
Wario's Gold Mine is much more open about it being a Wario track, the theming fits the Wario Land games better, its more obvious because he's money hungry. Even Wario Colosseum I feel and things like that fit Wario because he's both A: Competitive and B: Dirty, which big Colosseum showdowns with dirt bike tracks fit in some way.
Mount Wario feels like they took a Mario & Sonic Olympic Winter Games track and slapped some Wario logos on it, and I feel like a lot of tracks in 8 base feel similar in just missing the mark. I did not even realize that the idea of Sunshine Airport was that it was supposed to literally be the Airstrip some years later after Sunshine until Arlo pointed it out here, it was so divorced from feeling like it was on Isle Delfino that it just felt more like a nod to the idea rather than returning to the same place years later.
Yoshi's Island in the BCP felt like the first new track to really embody a prior game or concept like that which wasn't a crossover (and even then there's little gripes and nitpicks with Hyrule Circuit).
Eh, so many of the base game tracks had the gimmick of "2 alternating but almost identical paths that last half a lap or more to show off anti grav gimmick, with one path just being the faster optimal one" (ice ice, sweet sweet, rainbow road, electrodrome, etc) it just got old
Will say I do find the base 8 nitro tracks to be kinda hermoginious, making them samey to play.
There are defo some standouts like toad harbour, shy guy falls, mount wario and cloudtop cruise that play really well.
But alot of the base 8 Nitro's share alot of DNA with each other weather than be the anti grav split path or the end of track glider section followed soon after by off road mushroom shortcut they often at points just blend together.
I do think base MK8 was rushed all things considred given the battle mode and some copy pasting between tracks I think the both sets of DLC really breathed life into the game.
As soon as he gave MK Stadium an A I knew I was in for a crazy video
A?
Its a great track. Watching this, i was reminded just how good the tracks in the base game of MK8 are. They are so much better than most of the tracks in almost any other game in the series.
Some absolute horror takes for sure. Royal Raceway and Sydney Sprint in D really hurt 😂
@@hairyson94sydney sprint graphics are terrible

I'm still sour how they treated Coconut Mall on Switch. They could have at least made escalators instead of generic ramps.

@@megastarwarsrocks99 oh wow what a tough little man❤
IMO Baby Park doesn’t really work in MK8 without the larger special attacks from Double Dash. Bowsers big shell or the baby’s big chain chomp created entertaining chaos. It feels much more dull in 8.
Nah, with the item settings, the 7 laps back again and the visuals being as peak as ever, the track is back to being a blast.
Sombody hasn't played 200cc online baby park.
it’s all relative. so i get this, but 200cc / bullet bill only / blue shell only can mimic this chaos pretty well
I think I hear you saying Double Dash needs to make a return and I agree. But your actual point is well made

OG MK8 might seem content-bare at THIS point but it came out swinging with some fantastic tracks and the two strong initial DLCs.
The Wii U version of MK8 at launch had 32 tracks just like DS, Wii and 7 did.
@@lol-ih1tl Right. It was content complete like its predecessors. The only weak link was Battle Mode. The Booster Course Passes just make it seem small now. I hope it doesn’t mess with people’s expectations. I’d be fine with the next game having 32 tracks to start again.
His poor editor having to drive all the courses to get footage for the video 😂
It's still crazy that this game has 96 tracks. Even if the booster pass courses aren't quite as pretty as the base tracks, I'm more than happy to have them around as they did bring back a lot of fan favorites. (It also pandered to MK Wii fans a lot but as someone who grew up with MK Wii, I'm not complaining)

More Arlo talking about Mario Kart 8 is always welcome. I love the sheer variety of tracks to chose from in this game, with nearly 100 to choose from, some of which are the best in the franchise. And I agree that Mount Wario and Wild Woods are top tiers. Very fitting for what may be the last MK8 video from Arlo.
Agreed
Lol he ended up moving Mount Wario out of S tier
Arlo, please, do more tier lists. This is absolutely fantastic.
Yeah I as much as I totally disagree with Arlo about so many courses, it is still very entertaining. I have always enjoyed tier lists.

this is so impressive omg
Arlo dropped mt wario at the very end, that was an error you should know about (but not connected to your timestamps)
Thank you so much!
This deserves a pin.
I honestly believe N64 rainbow road is one of the prettiest tracks in the series, there’s a reason it was on the cover of the game lol
Also it just feels like a celebration of Nintendo and Mario Kart in general
Best soundtrack of the entire franchise. That adds a lot to the pleasure of playing it
It feels like a drag race, which I like a lot.
Literally almost everyone I see talk about Grumble Volcano hates it and never explains why. I'm glad Arlo made any argument that could've been made irrelevant by embracing the fact that it's an underrated gem of a track.
We have very different tastes. For me, it's all about how good it feels to drift and save lap time vs. other players along with the music. Theming seems to be the biggest thing for you
I value tracks the same way. I was incredibly shocked that Yoshi Circuit ended up in C and Arlo said Shroom Ridge was basically C outside of nostalgia. Easily some of the most enjoyable tracks to front-run and time trial imo
In a world where Mario Kart tier lists can feel really heated and passive-aggressive towards different playstyles, it was really nice to see a list that kinda just boiled down to vibes. It's like if in contrast to all my crazy 100+ hours in Mario Kart gamer friends (and me), my sister made a tier list. Someone who has played every track a few times and loves the game but never got super into it
Take a shot for every time Arlo says “dynamic.”
I know that I got Covid a couple months ago, but geez, I don’t need that many shots!
so if we open up the video transcript (it uses the auto subtitles, but should be good enough)
copy it into a text editor and then search for the word "dynamic"
we can find that it is said 9 nine times in the video

then 11:49,
13:11,

I've noticed a lot of the rankings are heavily influenced by their look and not much by their track design. What really confused me was Snow Land getting B for being nice looking for Ice Ice Outpost getting D for not being visually interesting enough.
Love to see the Wild Woods and Merry Mountain praise, such amazing tracks visually
Wild Woods is one of the tracks that’s perfectly designed for 200cc as well.
Ooh, an Arlo MK8 track tier list! I will most likely be personally offended by every ranking choice you make, so I very much look forward to watching this!!
After absolute years I finally found someone that is not disgusted by the existance of Grumble Volcano? Wow.
None the less I'm so happy this tierlist is so over-the-top diffirent from the 'general opinion' on things, absolutely loved this
Grumble Volcano is in my top 5 tracks for this game its just soo well polished and it races really well as a skill-based track

You know, Im not really bothered by your difference in opinions of some tracks. What really bothered me is the last second shock twist of taking mount wario off s tier inexplicably after you debated putting other tracks in s or a tier and just left boo lake in s tier instead of mount wario. But it's okay, I'll still watch your videos lol.
And sky garden above dragon driftway...
@@chunkymonkey7983 lol forgot about dragon driftway going low
Ayo, that itched me more than it should too. Boo Lake you go under water but Mount Wario you go through a journey up and down a snowy mountain peak, icy cavern, inside and along the wall of a flowing water dam, down through a snowy forest and then the ski slope where you have cheering fans with you on the big screen at the end, all with the music changes too. Aw well, it’s Arlo so it’s all forgiven lmao
CNN: "This just in, local Grover cosplayer "ArloStuff" finds himself in hot water after uploading his own MKDX tier list prior to Schafrillas Productions' upcoming tier list. After listening to Nathaniel Bandy’s MK8D track ranking videos, this is exactly what I needed. Hope we get more ranking videos or at least more hour long videos that don’t require too much effort.
Nathaniel B's ranking video was mostly comparing tracks to the originals while this video reviews tracks for what they are.
I have never disagreed with a tier list more.
Good video nonetheless Arlo.
Yo what Yoshis Track at C-Tier? You should definetly play it again, and see how great the turns of that track are. There is always a tight corner to take, always a shroomless shortcut you can make and it looks like a Yoshi! It's the best track of the game for me at least. In 150 and 200cc.
Ikr, I think he’s basing it primarily on visuals and concept because it is definitely not based on how fun they are to race.
This is like the 4th or 5th ranking video I’ve seen where people have put Mario Kart Stadium above Electrodrome.
There is no way you could convince me that Mario Kart Stadium is a better track.
I genuinly believe a lot of these CZcamsrs don't really play the game all that much
@@Synthpopperyeah.... probably play each track casually once a year. Some of the rankings are nonsensical it cannot possibly come from someone who has played these tracks more than a few times each

Ninja Hideaway is built like a really good Sonic Level
Fr lol. That stage should be an insta S due to how insane the course is. Might be the most chaotic stage from the DLC.
Ninja Hideaway blew my mind.
Best OST in the game, and it's actually challenging to run, unlike almost any other course.
Plus, it has a few really well hidden shortcuts that make it extra interesting even on top of the two-tiered pathing.
Man it's funny to see how different everyone's opinions can be.
Because a lot of your picks is a wtf? to me but that's honestly the beauty of it.
We all have have courses we like and dislikes also great video as per usual keep it up :)
Honestly, I agree with a lot of these!
But my tier list would be HEAVILY influenced by the music that plays on each level!
This game's soundtrack is, simply put, god-like. Absolutely divine!
I think city tracks are super interesting just because we're used to all the zany out there tracks and when they can take a real world location and make it feel fantastical, (Singapore and Vancouver for instance) it really starts to shine. I mean, I'll take a track that's just dripping with personality and love like Yoshi's Island any day of the week, but there's something so neat about racing Mario Kart around in these real city locations.
I'm sick today, and I can't think of a better video to zone out to, so thanks for this perfect timing.
You, sir, have an interesting taste... almost all of my favorite tracks ended at the lowest rank, hahahaha. Great video, man! Huge fan of your channel.
You put most of the tracks that I love where I thought you put them and even almost nailed the Tour track pecking order, so good job overall.
Best surprise is Grumble Volcano at S. It's hard to find casuals who love that track.
Worst slander is SNES Mario Circuit 3, but I was already prepared for this take from the Booster Course Pass video.
My top 10 tracks in this game
1. Maple Treeway - it’s been my favorite track since Wii and is still my absolute favorite in Mario Kart 8.
2. Mount Wario - just a really fun track with a great theme. I like how it’s just one big track with no repeating laps.
3. Big Blue - same thing with Mount Wario. I also just love how fast it feels.
4. Wii Rainbow Road - I always thought 3ds was better. But idk why I just have more fun driving on this one more.
5. Koopa Cape - it’s just an incredibly solid track. One of my favorites on Wii and still is on 8.
6. Ribbon Road - this might be the greatest upgrade to a track like ever. Can’t believe I’m putting a gba track so high. Also probably one of the most popular tracks online.
7. Bowsers Castle - the music is just amazing in this track. Probably my 2nd favorite Bowsers Castle of all time behind Wii.
8. Tick Tock Clock - love this track in DS, I actually think it plays slightly better in DS. But this version looks a lot better. And is still a really unique concept for a track.
9. Dolphin Shoals - you drive on an eel and get to trick off of it. Super cool, really fun underwater driving course.
10. 3ds Rainbow Road - the whole vibe of this track is incredible. You get to jump on the moon and the music is incredible.
Honorable Mentions - Coconut Mall, DK Mountain, DK Summit, Yoshi Circuit.
Very respectable Top 10.
A very solid list all I would do is replace Dolphin Shoals with DK Jungle and bump up 3DS rainbow road
Incredibly solid list. Was hoping to see more Koopa Cape appreciation from Arlo lol
Love that you love the non-looping tracks. I think they're usually the highlight of the series
Arlo took is Magnum Opus and made it into a tier list?!? And we thought it couldn't get any better.
I like how this game kind of made it so each subsequent rainbow road kind of has a sort of progression going on, Going from just some hills at night to being above a cityscape to being above the earth but still more rainbowy than technological, to finally just having you go to planets and over rocket ships, and finally through a high tech space station, curious to see how the next game continues this president, both with a new rainbow road and potential returning rainbow roads that weren't in this game or tour.
"Real life tracks don't have the same magic as the Mario universe". Of course, nothing in real life is as exciting as *lemme check*: A mountain, a harbor city, or an airport. Nothing in real life could compare to that!
To be fair, it is much more fun to go through an airport or drive down a mountain (at least for people who get carsick) in a Mario game than it is in real life

ARLO.... I couldn't disagree more. I had to stop watching halfway through cause I was giving myself a headache with how badly my face was scrunched up in confusion.
I'll put this tierlist in F
Ever since MK8 originally came out, I always thought the base tracks were just ok. Visually they were breath-taking, but not only did a lot of the track design feel bland, but there was always this strange disconnect to what I was driving, and that's because 95% of the time you're either driving on something that looks like a road or a dirt path. It makes the tracks feel like a roller coaster or a go-kart course rather than actually in them. This extends to anti-gravity, it's an awesome idea but it's never used interestingly. I never feel like I'm defying gravity if it just looks like a pre-built road that's floating in the air or just a chunk of land tilted 30 degrees. I expected to drive up buildings, on the underside of trees and boats, but the only time I ever felt like I was defying gravity was the waterfall sections in Shy Guy Falls.
Anti-Gravity will feel different in the next game but at the same time it's going to get heavily underused by only appearing in MK8 tracks, the Rainbow Roads and an Anti-Gravity tutorial track in the Mushroom Cup and maybe some DLC tracks as well
Watching this, I think that overall I had more fun with the booster course tracks, but oh my god are the base game courses beautiful.
Looking back at 8's old courses, wow they really updated those guys to make them look new. I could have sworn half of those were also new 8 courses based on how dynamic they were.
I also realized how impossible it is to rank these courses right now thanks to the new courses being so fresh. In my mind the OG courses were being severely hampered by recency bias the new courses got. "Dolphin shoals? Who wants to play dolphin shoals? Oh, right! It actually does a lot of cool stuff!"
its sad to see it end but happy to finally move on to new games
I'm really really hoping MK9 is a launch title for the Switch's successor. MK8 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I've put more hours into 8 Deluxe than any other Mario Kart by far, but counting the original version for Wii U, I've been playing the game for nearly a full decade now, and I'm ready to move on. It's crazy to think that the average time between Mario Kart titles prior to 8 was only ~3-4 years, yet MK8 is likely to last a full 10+ years.
Top tier Arlo content! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Im one of the few switch owners that doesnt own Mario Kart 8 deluxe, yet here i am watching a tier list video about it just because its arlo
I've never simultaneously been super happy (especially with Dolphin Shoals and Wild Woods placements) and really annoyed (GCN Yoshi Circuit a C?!, Ice Ice Outpost, DP3 and a lot of the city track placements I thought were a bit harsh. Wasn't a fan of Music Park being over Electrodrome, but that's because I'm not as keen on it as a lot of others) at a tier list video, you've done well Arlo!
Arlo, this is the list of a psychopath. And I love that for you.
Why? He was pretty clear that he was basing this off vibes and personal preference
That Mount Wario betrayal!!
Wii Rainbow Road not being an S tier is a true crime
3ds and n64 rainbow roads are better tbh
@@chunkymonkey7983 explain
the most overrated track of all time ur just nostaglia blinded by wii and think every track from that game is so good ☠️☠️☠️
@@vexedtrack277 there is something called an opinion, and what you said is something someone who hasn't played mkwii would say
Agreed
Interesting to see a casual viewpoint of enjoyment and how it compares to driving them and playing online or in lounge
Arlo: Puts Moo Moo Meadows and Daisy Circuit in D tier
Me, a Mariokart Wii fan: You've Wah-d your last Hoo buddy
*grabs blue shell*
I love this!!! Can't wait for the big reviews of Pikmin 4, Mario Wonder, and TOTK
You hit me really hard with Mario circuit 3 arlo, really like really
This is the arlo content I needed, just 40+ minutes of pure blue monster talking about something
I really want arlo to make more tier lists i love how his normally chill style comes across even more so when he isnt doing a scripted video
Generally agree with your points. Always love hearing your casual thoughts Arlo 👍
I love how his low tier spot are all my favorite 200cc tracks
I really wish they do one long 96 lap race with a lap of each track or a 96 track cup like double dash all cup tour
I’m ready to be mad Arlo
Can’t wait to watch
Do NOT let bro cook!!!
The music in Mount Wario is also amazing, because it's three different tracks that build on each other and kind of reflect the stage of the race. There's a cool 8-bit music theory video about it. It's interesting even if you don't know anything about music theory!
Mario circuit from the GBA is actually one of my favorites. I find myself enjoying the simplicity and speed you can race on that track
Damn Arlo has the worst takes ever, I respect that he came out and said it with his chest though!
I'm surprisingly not mad at all. My list wouldn't be identical but all my favorites were near the top and least favorites near the bottom. Ya did good.
Entertaining video. Fun to see how someone else views these tracks. Having said that Sky High Sundae should be in F. That track is broken.
An Arlo tier list video?! How wonderful
I also love Wild Woods, especially because it reminds of the Nopon Village from Xenoblade 1
Yeah, gotta agree with the real life city tracks being mostly disappointing. The arrows pointing you in the right direction on turns feel cheap compared to the other courses that naturally push you in the right directions and reward you for finding shortcuts. On top of that, half the time even with the arrows, the tracks feel confusing to navigate half the time. Conceptually they're fun, but they don't feel nearly as tight as the main game courses.
I liked the decision for the mariokart circuit music at the beginning. It’s a good song and got me hyped.
When it comes to the tracks, I like to imagine if they were actual locations in the Mario world and the implication of that.
The Mushroom Kingdom having a advanced space station just tickles me.
If you’re ever in a toss-up while ranking your relatives, Arlo, remember Scott the Woz’s wise words:
“The cousin you love most is the one you’re most critical of.”
THANK YOU! I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like most of the real world city tracks. They just all kinda blend together in my head and don't really feel like Mario kart imo
Those Tier list Names are so Arlo you can hear Arlo's voice with in an Arlo Video Amazing
broken pier became a huge meme in my mario kart group because i forgot which GBA ghost level got confirmed, so I intentionally started calling it by the wrong name, someone else joined in on the bit and said it was banshee boardwalk, and now we spam pick it. he excitedly DMd me this video after skipping to the end and seeing snes ghost valley 3 in s tier. i think it became my favorite booster level through memes alone.
solid list. most of my favorites are in S and A, tier list where NBC isn't bottom tier, tier list where excitebike is in the lower tiers. aside from Waluigi Stadium being low this is pretty close to what mine would be lol.
idk why i never realized sunshine airport was based off of Mario Sunshine.... I just always thought of it as an airport track lmao
I was thinking the exact same thing when Arlo was explaining how it’s connected to Mario Sunshine and I was like “oh yeah it is isn’t it” haha
Yo, Peak Arlo content just got an unexpected epilogue. Nice!
I've been playing this game for since launch on Wii U, and until now I never knew the reloading zones on the F-Zero track give you coins. 😂
Awesome video! Definitely a punch to the gut when Waluigi Pinball and Coconut Mall werent S but i respect your opinion and you do have good taste in tracks!
