    Would it be wise for the West to close Russian embassies and the West to withdraw theirs from Russia? I am asking this because I am sure that the presence of Russian embassies in a country makes it easier to organise sabotage in that country. The attacks in the UK on Ukrainian concerns is worrying. We are in a state of war. And "foreign interference" acts targeting certain countries should be passed. Thanks for your channel and your dedication to keep us informed in this age of misinformation.

    Just watched a blog from Peter Zeihan called America's Genius Move, which I think pretty much explains US long term attitude to Europe and Ukraine (from a worldwide, population and commercial perspective). Basically, Europe is irrelevant. This is not about party political politics, it's about who the US does and does not want to cozy up to in future. Hopefully Europe realises it must rely entirely on itself from now on.

    The Skripal poisonings were far more serious than these arson attacks. The fact that Russian agents flew on scheduled airlines from Moscow to London, then by public transport in the UK whilst carrying Novachok nerve agent. Then to throw away the nerve agent container which then caused the death of a British person
    This attempted assassination of the Skripals could have caused thousands of deaths or injuries if the nerve agent had been released
    Like the Iranian attack on Israel, just because it didn't cause a number of deaths etc doesn't mitigate the seriousness of the act itself
    However at the time of the Skripal attack the UK was still quite happy just to swallow such attacks from Russia and not view this as an act of war (which it was)
    It would be interesting to see the reaction if Russia tried such an attack now

    You've mentioned recently that you believe World War 3 has started - I disagree. I see this as either a new Cold War, or the resurgence of a conflict that we had thought was over in the 1990s. The fact that the war is very hot in Ukraine has analogs in the "first" Cold War (Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan). I expect to see continued competition for "non-aligned" nations (India, Brazil, and other generally Southern hemisphere nations) as an analog for similar diplomatic struggles during the Cold War.
    Could this spiral into an actual "hot" World War 3? Of course it can. That was the dominant geopolitical concern for decades during the Cold War.
    What other things from the Cold War could we see emerge? I think we could see a new "Iron Curtain" drawn across the western border of Russia/Belorus/Rus-occupied Ukraine that would look a lot like the DMZ between the Koreas. I believe we will see an increase in defense spending in the Western world (and an increase in the tension between military spending and welfare state support). I also expect that there will be an increase in actions taken in "non-aligned" countries, in which each side tries to maneuver position their supporters into a position of power and control - likely leading to the repression of democracy in these non-aligned countries.
    Resumption of the Cold War is not a positive geopolitical development, from the perspective of somone who would like to see the overall human race increase in prosperity and freedom. But it beats fighting a hot WW III, and it is far better than subjugation under an authoritarian rule.

    • @Finnishguy777
      @Finnishguy777 Před 17 dny +3

      No one believed that the Second World War had even started when Japan started its war campaign in China and Manchuria in 1937, but still the conflict in question can be considered to have started already then, even though it did not start until 1939 for Europe, so the events that started it were exactly in 1937... I don't even know if we are already in the third world war or not but I can say that we are at least really close to it, in fact closer than for example during the Cuban missile crisis, these local conflicts have a nasty way of spreading and at the moment we are literally living on the edge of a knife. I personally don't think that a big conflict can even be avoided anymore, maybe it can be delayed, but it will still happen

      @@Finnishguy777 58k US dead in Vietnam over ~ 12 years is a lot, against a clear USSR proxy. The US had about 36k dead in about 3 years of fighting in the Korean war, including actual fighting against ChiCom "volunteers" (China officially states over 180k dead(!!) from all causes during their intervention). Yet no WW III erupted.
      I do note that one significant difference is that none of the Cold War hot zones resulted in a major power actually fighting on it's own soil (e.g. the US wasn't fighting VC on US soil, nor the Chinese fighting on their land, or the Soviets in theirs). The UKR/RUS war does and will involve (increasingly, IMO) attacks on Russian soil. That may prove to be the difference in escalation to a truly global WW III.
