Film director Darren Aronofsky joins "CBS This Morning: Saturday" to discuss his controversial new film about one of the best known tales from the Bible's book of Genesis, "Noah."
I am a Roman Catholic and I thoroughly enjoyed the film. I watched it the following Sunday after it was released. I had heard the controversy over accuracy at my school (I attend a private Christian school), but yet I still wanted to watch the film. While it does not contradict anything the Bible says, it adds on to what the Bible does not say. I'm specifically referring to the Watchers (the fallen angels who became the giant rock forms) and the whole point of Tubal Cain and his army trying to take over the Ark. The Wathcers are rooted in the apocryphal book of Enoch. There has also been controversy over God being called "The Creator" and not God. Seriously guys??? I thought that was the most stupid complaint about this excellent movie. I thought Noah was a fantastic, visually entertaining, and powerfully acted Epic. People need to understand that the movie studios have artistic licenses and they can basically do what they want (add or take away from the movie) Arronofsky added to the Noah story to make it entertaining (to give it a more interesting plot). I believe Arronofsky captured all of the true details with stunning visual graphics (I especially enjoyed the scenes with the animals coming into the Ark). The film followed the bottom line (God was going to destroy the World because of man's sin, he told Noah to build the ark and take his family and two of each animal with him, and Noah and his family survived the flood.) The Bible is the original source for the film, but not the script. I enjoyed Noah very much and I am looking forward to watching Ridley Scott's film "Exodus: Gods and Kings"!!!!!!
I thought Aronofsky deliberately used “Creator” to avoid giving a gender, race or specific human attributes to the Divine (very smart). Ridley Scott is a terrific director too. He rewrote the Rules on depictions of women in film with his groundbreaking Ripley in ALIEN. EXODUS is an excellent followup to this.
I really appreciate his empathy. As a kids I never thought for a minute about the literal millions of people who are wiped out in this story, I thought about the cool ark and the animals. This movie changed my perspective a lot.
“Least biblical” maybe. But true to much of the apocrypha and most of the internal symbolism of the story. And Anthony Hopkins depicting Methuselah as an old shaman, complete with a psychedelic concoction, was simply brilliant.
This movie is dark in parts but it ends in one of the most bright, tender and earnest ways. So earnest it risks making people feel it is saccharine. But that's why he's great. He goes all the way when doing that is not considered as high minded as being subtle. "God will not have his work made manifest by cowards." Emerson
@@amauryaracena When you look at the high quality of his other films, a silly, sadistic fable seems an odd choice of subject matter for such a competent, discerning filmmaker.
To the Director -> i wanna knw according do his film where will Ham and Japheth gets their wives? dont tell me thy will marry Sham's twins. lol According do the film thy were the only survivors in the New World, so ther wont be another group of people on the otherside of the world for them do meet..So where is the chance for populating into many races? Same question goes for Cain and Seth (childrens of Adam n Eve)
Bresheet 7:6 Noah was 600 years old when the water flooded the earth. Noah went into the ark with his sons, his wife and his sons' wives, because of the floodwaters. Hmm Liderc22 looks like there were women in the ark. But then since you appear to be blind to the truth there is nothing to say to you. God loves you. The director did state that his rendition was a true account; which according to the word of God is false. We all get to chose what we believe; I chose Yeshua.
Well that's Noah and he was glad because somebody thought about hams feelings for a change? Try always it's always hams feelings nobody ever gets away from his feelings about how you rent him away from his home and family try society he just wanted that so much but now😊😊he's glad somebody still cared and that means it was a wife and mother to one of hams sons and shes also a daughter of shem because he can stand it if they love each other but if one of them is out of the relationship try get off my back and that's her hams mind to you forever so enjoy he finally took over again and That's it ill try but hes done again.so believe. Believe in the cross
Noah is 2 pages long, everything that was in the Noah STORY was told correctly in the film. He simply added on to the story to make it more exciting. This film was never advertised as a biblical retelling of the story, it was sold and promoted as a "reinvented biblical epic." Noah's been done before, who wants to see that boring shi* again?
the hype around this movie is proof that the bible is gods word, And of all the biblical stories that could b made in2 a movie they decided to choose the 1 tat speaks about the final days of man which I believe is at our very doorstep. coincidence ??? NO I think not.
You people always say the end is at our doorstep, yet we're all still here. Sorry, the bible was written by men, men pretending to be god. Aka, the world won't end the way the bible says, it'll end because we destroy ourselves. No heaven, no hell, just people destroying people.
MrJoe76100 No. I understand it perfectly. We simply have different conclusions about the film. I find it just as justified of a position to think this movie is like eating your favorite meal. That's the difference between you and me. Your statement is stupid, because it is YOU who lacks the equipped understanding to appreciate deconstructing the mystique of cinema as an art form.
Rung Acuter as a Noah!!!!! Childish With " Watchers * !!!!! Not the Real Life Story of Noah !!!!!! And what happen in to The End !!!!!! Just Nome and People did not know is the film finished !!!!!! Ooh
***** why would you see this on bootleg? it deserves to be seen in cinema. you're practically stealing from other people, what kind of christian are you? you're such a hypocrite!
Megan, Why does it matter to you if I see "Noah" or not? I don't want to see it! I'm positive I'm not missing out on a "great" movie. I saw the previews...nothing Biblical from them, plus the director said it's not Biblical. Why would I see a non-Biblical Bible movie?! That would be like reading a fictional biography A waste of time and money.
LSUfanhere 10 bucks says you saw Twilight lol, but won't see an incredible director's work because it's not "biblical" enough for you. It doesn't matter anyways, Noah is a fake fairy tale for ignorant adults like you to believe in so you don't feel alone.
This director made this movie so unnecessarily perverted and sexual. Really makes me mad, why would you do that to a movie that's kinda about the Bible just honestly it's disgusting what you decided to do.
This Film actually did a lot to restore my faith in Christianity, and I don’t say that sarcastically.

Exodus is a pile of crap compared to Noah.
Love both of Em..

Fortunately, the story is just a very old legend. Otherwise, that would make God a major league, twisted psychopath. LOL
“Least biblical” maybe. But true to much of the apocrypha and most of the internal symbolism of the story. And Anthony Hopkins depicting Methuselah as an old shaman, complete with a psychedelic concoction, was simply brilliant.
I love him!!!! He is so smart and charming.
He is an underrated director
David Álvarez have you scene all of his films
This movie is dark in parts but it ends in one of the most bright, tender and earnest ways. So earnest it risks making people feel it is saccharine.

I love your films, Darren. You’ve been innovating since PI; I see the influence of your work on up-and-coming directors. Your NOAH is a masterpiece.
I love this director and his movies
I loved the film. one of my favorites. and of course it's going to be inaccurate in some scenes. it's a Hollywood movie
Some? He only got the animals, the rain and the ship “right”
OMG. How did Aronofsky ever get involved with this tripe? It's his one major misstep among his other quality films.
Could you elaborate?

"nothing contradicts this bible" WHAT did he really even read genesis lately? or when he was 7th grade?
Noah is 2 pages long, everything that was in the Noah STORY was told correctly in the film. He simply added on to the story to make it more exciting. This film was never advertised as a biblical retelling of the story, it was sold and promoted as a "reinvented biblical epic."

Yep. This guy is a liar. "Nothing contradicts the Word." Add poison to your food, Darren. Just a little. It does no harm.
With all due respect this movie sucks
the hype around this movie is proof that the bible is gods word, And of all the biblical stories that could b made in2 a movie they decided to choose the 1 tat speaks about the final days of man which I believe is at our very doorstep. coincidence ??? NO I think not.
This is only proof that people love blood and love feeding it to their wrathful god.

Of course it's God's word.. One still denying that just reflecting on his on insecurities!
One of the best films ever!
AMAZING FILM I'd Spend money on it again!

MrJoe76100 "only if you lack understanding" Hurr-hurr-hurr! Durr-durr!
Grandma's Biblical epic?! The Bible is for everyone! How can he miss that?! Watch out for these "modern" directors trying to steer us from the Word.

You clearly misunderstood what he meant...
Rung Acuter as a Noah!!!!! Childish With " Watchers * !!!!! Not the Real Life Story of Noah !!!!!! And what happen in to The End !!!!!! Just Nome and People did not know is the film finished !!!!!! Ooh
Had no intention of seeing this movie, and now that a few friends who know the Bible have seen it and told me about it... I KNOW I will not see it!
why do you let other people decide things for you? don't you have a mind of your own? This movie is great and you're missing out!
***** why would you see this on bootleg? it deserves to be seen in cinema. you're practically stealing from other people, what kind of christian are you? you're such a hypocrite!

Good, it's not meant for delusional idiots who believe in the bible, it's meant to be entertaining. If you want your adult fairytales, go read it.
