Really like the presentation of these videos, I’m curious to see how much interest the flight sim geeks have in rotary flying! Notes on the startup and shutdown for you guys who like to know real-world procedures: Piston helicopters are not started with throttle cracked like in fixed-wing aeroplanes. Engage the starter with the throttle fully closed. The governor switch should always be in the “ON” position. Once the engine starts, immediately engage the clutch and the alternator, confirm + current on the ammeter. Now play the throttle dance where you slowly add throttle while the clutch engages, then FULLY close the throttle once the needles are joined and do not increase throttle again until the clutch light extinguishes. The belts can often take 1-1.5 minutes to fully tension depending on the machine. When clutch light is out, open throttle slowly (keeping the needles together) to achieve 2000 engine rpm (the first lilac mark on the tachometer for G2, 70% if flying a R22/R44). This is your warm-up setting where you check magnetos, carby heat and sprag clutch (splitting the needles). NOW we’re ready to fly. With the governor switch on, open throttle just slightly, and the governor will take the throttle off you and wind the engine and rotor up into the green flight band on the tacho. Shutdown is the opposite. Leave the governor on and simply overpower it by rolling throttle down to 2000rpm (or 70% in Robinsons). This is your cooldown setting also. 3 minutes cool-down NO LESS prior to shutdown. Finally, close throttle fully and immediately disengage the clutch. Wait 30 seconds for the belts to release before pulling the mixture to cut-off. Don’t rush to slow the rotor and turn the master off as the clutch actuator needs to continue to run for a minute or so. Happy rotary flying!
You have just had the pleasure of a very knowledgeable "CFI" (certified fligtht instructor) covering a most amazing helicopter. I'm enjoying the really accurate presentation of a helicopter I've enjoyed in a simulation...
Another excellent video! At the moment helicopters are all I fly in MSFS, and I love to learn all the small bits and pieces about these incredible machines :)
Awesome! My buddy have enjoyed flying this heli, and we started from the parking area, and had to start it up our selves, which is normally pretty easy to figure out, but we could not find that ignition start button! We were video chatting and sharing screens while I was figuring out where it was. Once I did, I was like "You'll never guess." then moved my cockpit camera around to where he could see it, and we both started laughing! lmao Yeah, we have the short cut key mapped too, but we like to do it from inside the cockpit, but knowing where it's at now... short cut it is. lol Thanks for helping us out. We've turned off all of the rotor and cyclic assistance, and it really makes this thing engaging to fly and land in tight spots. Was fun landing in the inner walls of Angkor Wat. lol I'm using an old Saitek X36F my dad passed down to me, and it really works great! Especially with rudder pedals. Even though I'm using my throttle as collector, it's not too bad at all the way my set up is.

I've always struggled to fly the helicopters in all versions of flight sim, so these videos really help to connect the sim to reality in a way that helps me logically understand. I do have one question though; You said it would be a bad thing if the clutch were engaged while starting the engine. Why is that? When you see most helicopters start up, you see the rotor rotate on pace with the engine wind up sounds. Is the danger unique to this type of helicopter, or engine?
Necessary for piston helicopters to start up since the inertia of that big main rotor is too much for the engine to overcome from a dead stop. Think about driving a manual transmission and you just take your foot straight off the clutch with no gas, it'll stall out. You won't see that kind of manual clutch in a free-wheeling turboshaft helicopter (which is really most helicopters these days) because there is no mechanical connection between engine and turbine so it is able to spool up without fighting that inertia.
Hey P.. So im totally at a loss here with this Heli. When I start on the runway for a flight the min it loads me into the Cabri the power gauge is jumping from 0-100 like crazy non stop and then the gauge on the left the RPM one just slowly declines until the aircraft turns off. so i never even get a chance to fly it. any ideas what's wrong
I can't believe that Thrustmaster and Logitech and others didn't find a way to bring reasonably priced collectives to the Market especially now helicopters are native in MSFS. Also why not bring back joysticks with force feedback ? People are spending thousands on their sims these days to get as close to realism as possible and just a few ridiculously-priced helicopter peripherals are available.
Logitech was the first brand to build and sell joysticks with force-feedback, unfortunaly they also had invented it and keep the license for it, so no other brands are allowed to build this technology, and Logitech doesn't use it anymore...
Anyone else notice that these people who already know and are profient in flight sim 2020 go through their tutorials so fast that they are basically useless! Yes I know you can stop and watch again, but this only adds to the frustration!
for me If I had a watch a 1 hr video that explained everything I would be annoyed honestly. the fast paced nature is perfect for me. I get it though there arent enough slower paced tutorials on youtube for sure

My gauge panels are all purple black squares any help with fixing it please

Shame I couldn't here anything no volume on what I watched. Look like a good set up of controls.
I wish the collective felt more natural sometimes. I have the collective up and the helicopter just doesn't stay steady when hovering.

Joysticks dont have force Feedback, thats why its not implenented

I have one of the older Microsoft Force Feedback sticks. It's amazing. I couldn't fly without it

That's because you're watching tutorials beyond your ability level. If you learned the basics then these videos are valuable.
