I love you trying to guess his name whilst it’s paused on a banner of his name 😂
Trying to guess the name when it's printed on a huge banner on the stage ..... and the whole theme is about teaching him to speak Cockney ... what could his accent at the end have possible been ?
Devonian!
Hahaha, Merrick was from Leicester, had Leicester accent. What a load of .....
Connar, have you ever seen the film or musical ‘My Fair Lady’, in which Henry Higgins teacher Eliza Doolittle, a common flower girl (street seller of flowers), how to behave and speak like an upper-class Lady? This comedy drama is a parody of that, doing the opposite!
Joseph Merrick (aka the “Elephant Man”), teaches an upper-class young Gentleman, how to speak and behave like a lower working-class ‘Cockney’ street thug.
The comedy drama is set in the warehouses and streets around White Chapel, and the docks of the ‘Pool of London’: which is the area around Tower Bridge, as it was in the 1800s.
The language they are speaking in English, it’s a mix of common colloquial English, and the local ‘rhyming slang’ words common to this areas of London, and commonly used by the lower working-class people during the 1800s to mid-1900s.
It’s is named ‘Cockney Rhyming Slang’, and is a ‘metaphorical’ use of language to convey meaning.
It originated in what is called the ‘East End of London’ in poor communities in employment around the River Thames. Many of the phrases are commonly used today in everyday speech. Mainly in the South of England, but are so commonplace they are understood throughout the whole of Britain, and abroad in places like Australia and Canada.
Anybody who was born within the ‘Sound of Bow Bells’ (the sound of the bells of the Church of St. Mary Le Bow), like myself. Is regarded as being born a ‘Cockney’.

My fair Lady SUCKS.
At least go to the source..the play Pygmalion.
The total confusion was the best bit.
I tried many years ago to teach a septic (tank = yank) a bit of slang with an accent.
Dismal failure even though I copied both their American accents in seconds and sounded like one of them.
They were baffled and thought I had some kind of talent!
Nah mate, just a bit of cockney banter.
Yep, had the same bollox with septics
@@tobytaylor2154 now now no need to be listerine boys😄
@@stevebrown661 I love em really! 🤣
They are from Chutney, as he said, which is between Putney and Upney. in London Town,,..
Merrick don't freak for free you know 🤣🤣🤣
Sweet Harris , sitting on his bottom
Cockney was in the title. Merrick was on a fucking banner onscreen.
This lad is intelligent, I've seen other videos he has.
He lacks what Irish people would call "Cop on".
Would the cockney word for that be "nous"?
aris ,aristoltal ,bottle ,bottle and glass I will let you finish but hint he was sitting on it
Such a shame they only made 1 series of this.
Complete agree with ya. It was funny as hell.
year of the Rabbit is such a cracking show. They never renewed because of Covid but hopefully they'll come back to it
did you really just ask what accent is that on a video titled how to be cockney hahaha
I just watched the whole series on All4....Brilliant!
It's Joseph Carey Merrick the name John was allegedly used by his acclaimed physician Sir Frederick Treeves who essentially took him in as an oddity to discover what he had wrong with him, due to Merricks deformities it was easier for Treeves to get Joseph to say his name was John and it stuck. Joseph Merrick lived for 27yrs b. 5th August 1862- d. 11th April 1890 his skeleton is on view at the Royal London hospital and has been preserved using bleaching techniques. If you haven't seen the film by David Lynch simply entitled 'the Elephant man' is an amazing portrayal of his life and times with fantastic acting. Cheers buddy ✌️🇬🇧✌️🇺🇸👍🙏
Dr treeves found the elephant Man just across the road from his hospital. Literally across the road. He was then poked, prodded and gawped at for nothing. They still have his skeleton in the hospital.
@@Trebor74 yes you're right F Treeves writes about the encounter in his book 👍
If your born within the sound of Bow bells in the Eastern of london your considered a true cockney . Look up the pearly kings and queens too 🙂
Harder now than it used to be. Noise levels have reduced the distance that the bell could be heard. I live in Bethnal Green which used to be in the area you could hear the bells but not any more - this explains it wi-images.condecdn.net/image/y9pyAV1GGaa/crop/1620/f/bells.jpg
@@paulmurrell1301 that's a shame, I love all the old traditions 🙂
I'ts cockney!!! I talk like this
Taika Waititi is a great actor... Our flag means death is fun too :)
It's " Aris "and not " Harris " . " Aris " as in Aristotle = Bottle = Bottle and Glass = Arse !
"That's the chutney!"
Yes Connor
that was funny watching you try and get the name, whilst its on the banner in the vid.... also accent is East London i.e. cockney
Minces are mince pies up = eyes. Plates are plates of meat = feet.
The only way to be a true cockney is to be born within the sounds of Bow Bells.
True, but given everyone migrated to Essex to make way for the more recent immigrants the definition of a Cockney needs to be redefined, how about being born within sound of the bells of the parish church of central Basildon?

Oh mate, are you high or something? :D
London back streets ( Eastend ) poor area late 1800s . dark streets ..crime ... booze... dodgy deals.... cockney is the rhyming slang developed so police didnt know what you're talking about with your associate buddy...partner in crime..... slang: (tea leaf.....thief )
(Trouble n strife ....wife ) a whole dictionary of slang language ...
Look up cockney rhyming slang...
Still in use in london areas...but not like before..
It's a working class London Accent.
What's not to get ffs.
It was overplayed though. The last clip wasnt really what anyone actually speaks like
@@annother3350 but it's still recognisable
🤨
Sorry about this, but the Cockney accent (I live near E. London) is just a sloppy way of speaking English, deleting the letter h and the letter t, to say nothing of double negatives, which are not allowed. It sounds awful, and I don't like it. Experts say it is a dying accent and will not be about in 25 years. It is being replaced by other accents in London which reflect its enormous ethnic diversity.
Leave It Out :( No need to get Lemon wiv the Video, Geezer .
I was watching wiv me Trouble and me Saucepans and they loved it, Squire.. !
Far more to the true cockney speech not just an accent a deep history.

Stop moaning. There are loads of lazy accents all across the country and the newer accents are just as lazy
Antoine... Do you know what linguistics is? Because your comment is purely just bad understanding of how language, dialects, accents, etc all evolve. Completely ignoring all context and understanding.
Rubbish programme.
I LOVE this show so much. Can't believe they pulled the plug on series 2 🥲
Co-incidently,I am abour t to have a bath, right now.
It's on the top of my tongue.....oh what's his name 😂😂
