    I'm a lipreader, the play's title is definitely "Black White and Red All Over, Black White and Red All Over", although Blair (Toast's brother with the amputated hand) says the play's "A piece of s**t" during the bell ringing.

    They change jane's actress after the pilot,, doon mackichan plays her from episode 2 onwards and from there it gets way better!

    • @jonathancole833
      @jonathancole833 Před 2 lety

      There was nothing particularly wrong with the original actress, but I suppose Doon Mackichan was always going to bring more over-the-top comic touches to the role.

    That is the Real Naval & Military club. Nicknamed the in and out because it used to be the only London club with a driveway. When it downsized to its current premises it kept the words in and out on the columns for a gag.

      ‘Snuff Box’ is awesome; definitely an acquired taste, but especially excellent if you enjoy dark, surreal humour. As for ‘AD/BC’, I rather felt that was sorely lacking - found very little humour in it. Each to their own, though, I guess.

    The great Geoff McGivern as Cliff Promise! If you ever watch Back with David Mitchell and Robert Webb, he was fantastic in that. He was also Ford Prefect in the original radio version of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

    As excellent a comedy series as it is, I’ve got to say that it’s bloody criminal the extortionate prices that second-hand copies of ‘Toast of London’ are typically fetching online these days - why in the hell Channel 4 discontinued the DVDs I don’t know. Just shocking.

      @@NotoriousLightning Round about the same time as TOL came out. The BBC released a show called, Count Arthur Strong. The interesting thing here is that Arthur Matthews and Graham Lineham are legendary comedy writers who’ve worked together for many years and gave us the likes of Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd. So it’s an interesting parallel to see how they worked when on different shows, Graham Lineham worked on Count Arthur Strong and Arthur Matthews plus Matt Berry worked on Toast of London respectively. Because of this, you do pick up on each individual comedic strength as a sort of pro and con angle. Count Arthur Strong is more character focused with whacky scenarios determined by the portrayal of the characters in tow. Toast of London is kind of the other about, whacky characters playing out scenarios. Here you can see the pros and cons.
