  • Got this car from eBay and I love it! The 1989 Lincoln Town Car! It came all the way from Colorado! Got it October 2014! What an awesome car this is! Its in better condition than I expected and has many of today's current features! Yes, I could've bought a newer car for the same price but many cars today don't compare to the styling this car has, in my opinion. I like the squared styling; it looks like a Rolls Royce! I've wanted one of these since I was a kid and I'm proud to finally get one as my first car! It had cost me about $2,800 which was deal as the car was near perfect when I got it!
    The car had the following maintenance by the previous seller:
    New A/C Compressor
    New A/C Lines
    New Alternator
    New Water Pump
    New Fuel Filter
    New Air Filter
    New Radiator
    New Brakes
    New Air Suspension
    New Tires
    New Alpine Sirius XM CD/MP3 Bluetooth Radio
    New Vinyl Top
    Rebuilt Transmission w/ 3 year 36,000 Mile warranty.

    I'm 27 now, when I was 15 my first car was a 1989 Lincoln Towncar. It had almost 500,000 miles. Original engine, and original transmission. I was ecstatic when I got it. It cost 1000 dollars. It was in immaculate shape, I did have issues with the radiator, but that was all. I dream of owning another one some day

      Wow! That's great to know! I've just over about 100,000 miles on my Town Car and I expect it to get 500,000 miles and higher! I'm almost 27 myself by July. You were ahead of the game buying your first car at only 15! That was something I could only DREAM of doing; my mom didn't even want me to get my driver's license until I was over 18! I wanted this car since I was about age 8 or 9 would count down the months and years until I expected to go for a driver's license at 16. Why don't you have your Town Car anymore?

    My grandparents had an '89 Town Car back in the day. I always loved that car, they even took me with them to the dealer to pick it up because they knew I loved the big luxury cars. My family of four took a lot of trips in in with them (I always got to ride up front with them). I still remember the way it bounced on the country roads. I really miss cars like this, it is a shame you can't buy anything new like this today. Oh the "Good Old Days".

    • @CharlesSmith1
      @CharlesSmith1  Před 8 lety

      Wow! That's awesome! I wish I could've been just a few years older to experience these cars brand new. I wish I had family or friends that bought a Town Car that I could've experienced them get it off the dealership brand new. Those cars very roomy and had good air suspension. They don't make anything like this anymore. But I guess I'm pretty fortunate in my case as I got my car in like-new condition which is as close to new as it gets.

    • @tyler2610
      @tyler2610 Před 8 lety +1

      Well, actually they bought it used in '93 but it only had like 30,000 miles on it and they bought it at the Lincoln-Mercury dealer. They traded it in 2000 for a '99 Town Car but I always liked the '89 a lot better. I was never a huge fan of the last generation. My grandparents are still alive and well and now in their late 70s. Oddly enough today they drive Honda mini-vans. A lot of older people do like the mini-vans because they have the roominess of the big cars of the past and they are easy to get in and out of. I wish they still bought American though.
      Back in 2010 I considered buying a new Town Car and test-drove one but was not really impressed with the suspension and really didn't think it was worth $50K. I thought my 2005 Park Avenue was a lot smoother even though it was FWD and about 500 lbs lighter, plus it had nice options like a sunroof and park sensors that weren't available on the Town Car in it's last years. I have been a big Buick fan for about a decade but am not very fond of the direction they are going, my next car may very well be a Lincoln (probably an MKT or Navigator). Nobody makes a decent car anymore so I guess SUVs it will be.

    • @CharlesSmith1
      @CharlesSmith1  Před 8 lety

      Oh I see. Glad to hear your grandparents are still alive. Sad to hear they traded it in. I guess no one really realized how truly great those cars were until they see what we call cars now. I think sadly your grandparents like many others their age have lost faith in the American brands and have fallen to the options of foreign cars. Not their fault. Ever imports came to the USA in the mid-late 1980s, they have taken over the market and stolen the hearts of many. My family who once owned cars from the Big Three, (Ford, Chrysler, GM) now have Huyndais. I thought the Town Cars had parking sensors and sunroof. My 2006 model had parking sensors but I don't think the sunroof was available on Town Cars in later years. I always liked the 2003-2011 Town Car but never liked the 1998-2002 models. They looked too bubbly and rounded for a Lincoln in my opinion. Although still aerodynamic, the 2003-2011 had a few more defined angles, including the grille, front lights, taillights, and the re-addition of the hood ornament. I wanted a 2011 Town Car, myself too, as that would be the newest of the last of the great American luxury sedan. But so many have talked me out of getting a 2011 as they said it had the fewest features and wasn't as high quality. I heard 2003-2007 Town Cars were the best third generation models with still really great suspension, trim levels, color options, and other features. This could be due to the fact when the historic Wixom, MI plant closed in 2007 and Ford moved production of the Panther Platform to Canada, the craftsmanship diminished. I liked Buick myself. But after the Roadmaster was discontinued, I kind of lost interest myself in the brand. I'm not liking the direction Buick is going either; not liking Lincoln's direction or any luxury car brand's direction for that matter. Amazingly, Buick is doing really well with sales compared to my beloved Lincoln brand. More young people are buying Buick because of the new import-like styles. Cars are too small and are all bubbly looking. Not worth the money. They are all look starting to look like Hondas. You're right. No one makes a decent car anymore. MKTs look weird to me. But at least large SUVs exist and still don't look too ugly so, I'll be doing like you and will be getting a Navigator when all else fails.

The Body is perfect, engine perfect, trans needs a little work however. It has One little fog in the clear coat on the roof that will be buffed out and re-sprayed with clear soon. Only one crack in the Armrest, other than that, flawless. ONE OWNER!

      @@CharlesSmith1 most people desire the leather seats but as you live in the Philadelphia area trust me that leather is very cold in the winter time when you don't have heated seats the velour is better and in the summer as well when it's very hot and sticky. so don't feel too badly if you don't have leather is nice in the spring and fall but a little tough in the summer and winter months..... of course your second car could be a signature series with leather seats

    • @CharlesSmith1
      @CharlesSmith1  Před 5 lety +1

      Haha! Everyone says that about leather being cold in the winter! 😂😂😂 That's not a problem for me! I'd just put extra layers of cloth or something warm in the seat. The real reason leather is better to me is its easier to clean. And to me having seats that are easier to clean will always mean more than seats being colder with leather. I have a Bissell steam cleaner machine and there are still pieces of debris and dust in the cloth seats that's hard to clean. The funny thing is no one mentions that the leather seats are worse in the summer. I got a fix for that, I added a remote starter for this car. The car is warmed up for me in the winter and cooled off in the summer! 😏 @@acts2211

      +deno spyridon Thanks so much! I had a small budding interest in auto mechanics when I was really young, about age 8-9. I used to build those small model plastic car kits from ERTL, Revell and Maisto. But as the technology world started to grow, that took up my interests. So, I began to get computers, laptops and later phones and tablets to take them apart and fix them. But I still have a part of me that wants to be a mechanic. I was hoping that buying this childhood dream car would somehow rekindle that interest. And it did. Recently, my driver's side window regulator started acting up and the fuel gauge is inaccurate so I fixed the window and the antenna. The fuel sending unit will be fixed by a mechanic as I'm still learning things. But I do not want to pay high prices for many repairs than I can learn to fix myself which I'm doing. Other than that, car is still in excellent cosmetic and mechanical shape and is still in safe drivable condition like a new car.

      Charles Smith Your very welcome. Lincoln's have always had a great presence and strong styling all through the years. Ever since the first Lincoln Continental was introduced back in 1939, Lincoln has always created a fresh new body style at the beginning of each decade. Lincoln and Cadillac both are my top favorite automotive brands and both brands were created by the same man Mr. Henry Leland of Detroit MI. And yes I do have family that were and currently are auto workers for both GM and Ford. One of my uncle's worked at the Ford Wixom plant exactly where your Town Car was assembled.

    • @CharlesSmith1
      @CharlesSmith1  Před 7 lety +2

      Yes, I agree. Lincoln and Cadillac are my favorite brands too. I like the two big domestic luxury automobiles better than the foreign. Not being nationalistic or anything, but they were always the biggest cars around in the world and unique styling! Sadly they get heavily overshadowed by brands like BMW and Mercedes. They are nice but I don't see how they are truly special. I think they are overrated and that you can still find great value in Lincoln and Cadillac. And yes, there wouldn't be Cadillac without Henry Ford, since Henry Leland worked under his company and when he quit, formed Cadillac. Ironically, Ford bought Lincoln in 1922. It's amazing how Lincoln and Cadillac are rivals today
      yet they both had humble beginnings through the same individual in the past. And wow, that's a great thing to be proud of; having family that are auto workers! My grandpa was an auto worker for Ford and Chrysler in the 1950s and 1960s. But unfortunately, none of my family in modern times currently have any interest in the automotive field like I do. I wish the historic Wixom Plant still existed.

    Awesome car you got there! Those engines are pretty reliable. My dad has a 1982 Ford F-150 with the same 302 CI 5.0 Litre V8, except his is the non-EFI . They run practically forever. One of the best engines Ford ever made!

    • @CharlesSmith1
      @CharlesSmith1  Před 8 lety

      +Theodore “Teddy” Thorpe Thank you! I'm sure it will last. In fact, this is one of the fewest Town Cars with just under 100K miles. Most Town Cars from this year have between 150,000 to 250,000+ on them. Everyone that has had one said they put well over 100K and 200K on them. They just end up selling or junking them because they don't appreciate the classic appeal of them or simply because they want something newer. If you regularly service the engine with the right oil and proper coolant, it could practically last forever. I also got a 2006 Town Car with 336,000 miles and engine is still running. The mechanic really thought it was a mistake when he read the odometer. Haha :D And that's average. I couldn't find any 2011 models with under 150,000 miles. Yes, Ford did wonders with this engine!

    Beautiful car! I hope you can keep it in good condition. I also bought a 1989 Lincoln Town car as my first car, not limited edition but still in great shape! It has a carriage roof, blue dual tone pinstripes, and the same exact blue interior as yours!
    As a 17 year old teen today it is not common to see a young person who also has a passion for these beautiful cars. I saved up my money since I was about 7 or 8, just like you, but I didn't know I wanted a Lincoln until I was about 15. I knew I wanted an old "boxy" car from the 80's, though, and when I first saw my Lincoln in the parking lot it was love at first sight! I didn't buy it to get attention but let me tell you I've met some pretty cool people simply because they liked my car and couldn't believe there was such a young kid who had not only bought their own car but had such good taste in cars!
    I bought it with only 35 thousand miles on it when I was 16, it's really a shame that I can't keep it showroom new as I have to use it everyday. I hope to save enough money to buy a second "work" car when I get out of college and then renovate mine as it will soon need a new paint job and some body work. Thanks for the video!

      Thank you! I'm doing my best to keep it in the highest condition of excellence as possible! Nice to hear you got your Town Car. Wow! Your story sounds so much like mine as a kid! That's wonderful! I first fell in love with square body Lincolns at age 7 when I watched Nickelodeon's hit show "Hey Arnold!" Helga's dad drives blue 1970s 2-Door Lincoln Continental and I remember seeing a tan Continental of the same model in real life on a certain street I always passed by while on the school bus. And that's where it all started! Yes, I too have attracted a lot of attention (not intentionally) when people saw I saved up my own money to buy the car of my dreams at such a young age. But you did better than me. You started saving at 7. I didn't start saving until I was 17! Haha! :D And I couldn't afford one until age 21. Yes, I too agree with you on having a second car. While many people think my car looks
      excellent. It doesn't look as great as it did the day I bought it. I bought a 2006 Town Car in 2015 as my "everyday" car to keep the 1989 model in mint shape. However, it didn't last long, as the 2006 had some major mechanical problems so I had to sell it and continue using the 1989 model. I'm wearing it out. I've got scuffs on the fenders and a chipped taillight. Also my 1989 needs a new paint job, too! I can't wait to buy a newer Town Car again to keep my 1989 preserved. This time I will buy a 2011 Town Car; the last model year produced.

The reason I wanted a town car was because my dad was a limo driver in New York City when he was young, and how he described riding in luxury through the streets of Manhattan enticed me. I've never been happier with my beautiful car, and as you (hopefully) know they are rapidly growing in value. Already my car is worth almost triple what I bought it for, even with wear and tear.
      Thank you so much for making my day!

      Wow! Thanks. But that's wonderful. Your father taught you well. EXACTLY! That's the point I'm proud of! Not looking down on anyone; but yes, some young people get these expensive new cars given to them but I worked hard for a modest yet, reliable classic cool vehicle and bought it with my own money. Nice story. I wish I was growing up in that era when Town Cars like these roamed the streets of the inner city in the 1980s and 1990s. Yes, I knew they were increasing in value; they are almost 30 years old. Hard to imagine the late 80s and 90s are about to be 30 years ago! You're welcome. Glad I could make your day!

      +MrNoeliste03 Wow! That's nice and thank you. I personally think that each country has its own very unique beauty. You write English very well. It's really nice to see that a non-American really appreciates our large V8 cars. Many people outside of the USA do not like them because they feel they are too big. But I like them because of their size and they are safer. I was required to learn French 12 years ago at the middle school in which I attended. At first, it didn't interest me, but I learned to like it like I did every subject at the time and eventually, I grew to love the French language. It was at that point, that my desire grew to visit France. I decided to continue my study of French in high school and later even in college. By the time I was in high school, I never had to study for a test! It was so easy! Now, reading it and writing is easy. My French speaking skills, on the other hand needs work. Beautiful car. Very impressed how you stuck to your guns & bought the car you wanted. It say a lot about a man that chooses luxury over flashy design & speed. My first car was a 1979 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. I myself enjoyed a large car that offered comfort. But I had a 425 under the hood....so speed was hidden by beauty. But I have always wanted a Lincoln. But I want one even older than yours. My favorite Lincoln is the 78- 84 Mark V. There is no mistaking it when you see it. It exudes luxury, comfort, style, yet still can perform better than some sports cars. Good luck to you & your gorgeous Lincoln. I hope you enjoy it for many years.

      Thank you! Yes, I had to do it! I agree! These are beautiful cars! The 1979 Cadillac you had was a beautiful car, too! And with 425, that was sure a powerfully fast car! But I always liked Lincoln more! I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one who liked Lincoln a little more than Cadillac! Honestly, Lincoln's waterfall grille always gave it a regal appeal that made it look like a Rolls-Royce! It just signified a look of importance! I wish Lincoln still used the waterfall grille! 1989 was the last year for it! Yes, I'm still enjoying my car. I also like the straighter edges on the older Lincolns better than the slopped hoods and trunks of the GM cars of the time. Last year, I bought an all-black 2011 Lincoln Town Car L in mint condition with just 135,000 miles for just $5,000. I bought it as a daily driver to keep my 1989 model in mint condition! I will be posting a video on it very soon. In the video, I will also pay tribute to my 1989 town Car with a drone video clip of it.

      +Samuel Jonathan Ray Nice. How long did you have your Town Car? And what happened to it? Yes, I agree that those cars are built to last. Lincoln carried the great reputation of the Town Car's reliability even until it's end in 2011. I bought a 2006 Town Car last year and it has 336,000 miles. Still runs. But that's the motto I live by: If you take care of your car, it will take care of you. Most importantly, keep up the oil changes regularly and your car will last very long.

    OMG WHAT A BEAUTY! I'm with you, these were the most elegant cars on the road. I owned the same year car with landau roof (1/2 vinyl with wide chrome bar wrapped around roof) in "desert sand" colour from 92-97. So lux, so well-equipped, every feature comfort imaginable, right? This thing road so quiet and smooth - they just don't build them like this anymore. If an automaker decided to create a land boat, all the goodies, with today's modernity at a good price... I am certain they'd sell a lot. The 5 liter, 8 cylinder engine will move it too. Congratulations and I hope you get lots of enjoyment for years to come. At the price you paid? What do you have to lose.

The only thing I'd trade this car for would be an all-black 1989 Town Car with black or tan leather interior! I agree. If Lincoln or Cadillac would make another car like this, it'd sell very well! I'm very disappointed that American luxury car companies feel as though full-size vehicles are dead. Look at the Rolls-Royce Phantom! If Lincoln made something that looked like that for $70-$100K, it would sell very well! Nothing said class like a Lincoln Town Car or even Cadillac Deville Brougham.

Same door controls, same seats (just different colors + no Lincoln symbol) even the steering wheel looks similar! But mine has the original factory radio; complete with cassette player :) Plus there's no heat or AC; but those can be easily fixed in my case. @CharlesSmith1  Před 8 lety

      That's true. The Lincolns from the 1960s-1980s (or square body cars) did have some of the best driving performance. That is mainly due to the fact that these cars have a great air ride suspension system, which is usually only in luxury cars, like Lincoln and Cadillac. This is what made you feel like you are floating down the road. As the car rides over bumps and potholes, you barely feel a thing because the suspension system is adsorbing the impact when the tires run over them, keeping the rider from feeling much impact in the car. And yes, these are real bumpers! I love them. I got rear ended one time by a work van. It scared me but it was not a scratch on my car. I let the driver go. Thanks for the comment! I will do my best to keep it in great shape and running well!

    Hi Charles, I like the video, great car. When I was on holiday in Colorado I hired an RV from Cruise America. It was a small one based on the Ford E350. One week I was at Camp Baldy, and for the second I was in Colorado Springs at the Garden of the Gods.

      Hey, thanks. I'm glad you like the video. that sounds cool! I always wanted an RV, especially a Ford one. And I'd love to go mid-west one day. I love traveling but the furthest west I've been so was St. Louis, MO. My goal is California one day!

      If you get to California you will love it. Especially Yosemite park, San Francisco and down the coast to LA. I even rode a bike (pedal power) over the Golden Gate bridge with a little bit of the mist floating round it.

      Robert Foster Wow! Sounds awesome! I'd love to see exactly all of those things California has to offer and more! I'd especially like to go across the Golden Gate Bridge, tour the Silicon Valley and visit LA.

    Great choice for a first car I had the same year and loved it mine was white with a blue interior and I remember one night I was driving home and the police had a dwi check on a major highway they were pulling everyone over they saw me and waved me on .This car driving was like you were going down the road sitting on your most comfortable living room sofa !
    I am looking to but another one and go on ebay like you did I would recommend one to everyone they drive great and I wish you could still buy a car like this but it would cost about 60-70 thousand dollars this car was way ahead of it’s time and I would put it up against any Cadillac Mercedes anything foreign or domestic I was surprised to find out the engine was only 150 horsepower it felt like it was double that maybe because of the higher torque but anyway good luck with your car hope it gives you years of good service take care.

      Wow! Thank you for sharing your story. And I see great minds think alike! I agree with every word you said! I love these cars very much. I hope you can find one in great condition on eBay. They're getting harder and harder to find and the prices are getting higher. Best wishes on your search and thanks again for your comments on my videos.

    Awesome video, that is a beautiful car! I have a 1993 TC as my daily driver.
    It's always nice to see someone appreciate and take good care of TC that is in mint condition, like yours is. Enjoy it!

      Kevin Garrison Thank you, Kevin. Nice! I just got a 2006 Town Car to use now as my daily driver now. I was going to use my 1989 as a daily driver but my 1989 is so precious, I decided not drive it so much, especially how it has such low mileage. I put 3,000 miles on it since I got. But I must say, I like my 1989 Town Car better! The seats are so soft! And the power steering is so fluid-like, I can basically steer with one finger. I love that! The ride is just so awesome on it. It's hard to not drive this car!

      Charles Smith I had a 2006 TC as well, before I got my 93 (I sold my 2006, to get the 93). I much prefer the 93. I feel like these cars perform better if they are driven often. The interior of the 93 (and any box Lincoln) is so much nicer than the newer TC's and any car in general. I love the square dashboard and grills!

      Kevin Garrison I do like the styling of the 2003-2011 models. But I prefer the square body myself, as well, too. I love the '89 because it looks as old as a 60s-70s car. I call it a modern classic haha! Yes, I agree, they do perform better if driven often. That's why I do drive it once every week and once in a while I'll put it on the highway. It drives well on there. It's good to do that to keep the battery charged through the alternator and keep engine parts properly lubricated. It's kind of like a human. If you don't exercise your body, you have problems. Well, if you don't work your car, it starts to perform poorly.

      Kevin Garrison Kevin Garrison I do like the styling of the 2003-2011 models. I personally think its the best looking American luxury car of the 21st century. But I prefer the square body myself, as well, too. I love the '89 because it looks as old as a 60s-70s car. It's hard but I can't help but drive my 1989 model everywhere. treeez_____ Nice to know. Yes, go for it! You'll love this '80s model. I had bought a 2006 Town Car as well in 2015. I always loved Lincoln Town Cars, The first generation (1981-1989) and final third generation (2003-2011) will always be my favorite cars! I want to get a black 2011 Town Car Signature L to go with my 1989 model.
