We used to get these in all the time with drive-ability and stalling issues. Still this was a safer bet than what Cadillac was offering for 1982 with the underpowered and unreliable 4100 V8!

    This is the type of car that I need as well as a lot of people for a bug out car, because during and emp a 95 and up car will die on you and not start, this Lincoln on the other hand might have fuel injection but it's still carburetor and a lack of engine computer and electronics, so this car would start and run during an EMP and be a perfect bug out car. I'm going to get one next week.

    • @thetinpin
      @thetinpin Před 2 lety

      What on earth are you talking about? This is ELECTRONIC fuel injection, and if a vehicle has ELECTRONIC fuel injection it DOES NOT have a carburetor and DOES have an engine computer. While most vehicles from the late 70's and early 80's didn't have electronic engine control, Town Car did. 1980 through 1985 used Ford's 3rd generation electronic engine control system, or EEC-III. 1986 through the 90's and into the 2000's used the fourth generation electronic engine control system, or EEC-IV with small upgrades and changes year to year.

      86 and up actually had SEFI(not much different from a 2016), Idle air control valves , and the 88 should have a datastream with a good reader. However, Those systems were very new then with lots of bugs as they age. The problems could be very simple like a bad vacuum hose (air leak) or solenoid, but you really have to be good in electronics to find it. It is not amateur stuff, most mechanics are not qualified to troubleshoot. Replacing random parts may not help either. The rolling idle is likely a a vac leak somewhere. You can't own these today without being an expert in how they work. I could almost say the same for new cars too, most techs really have no clue, except how to say, "that will be $800, sir."
      85 had 2 fuel injectors into a throttle body, totally different animal. It was the bastard child of a carb and fuel injection. Don't even want to go there.

      A drop of contact spray did it for me. As you know after 30 years, you want to replace all lines & hoses, fluids & filters. I also found a leaking EGR gasket, clogged idle control valve and some pesky vacuum leaks. Had zero stalls or rough idles after a bit of TLC...
      Lubricating hinges, suspension, blower motor, parking brake release, windows, locks, anything that moves. Rustproofing, waxing.. preventive maintenance in general. My car will outlive me :)
