I live in the city of Irpin, maybe you have heard of this city. Of course, I (given the fact that I am Ukrainian, Ukrainian is my native language) understand Polish quite well, because Ukrainian and Polish languages are very similar. Thank you for your videos, it helps me endure what is happening to me in Ukraine. Thank you to ALL Poles for what you are doing for our people by sheltering them in YOUR country!!!!
I hope Ukraine regains its freedom soon. I remember travelling in the Carpathians in Ukraine and it was one of the most magical memories for me.

We have long had a Ukrainian population here in Tasmania, Australia, along with Polish and many other Eastern Europe nationalities. We have a Ukrainian Club, a Polish Club, which the mother of a close friend of mine used to help run, a Croatian Club, and Chinese Association, etc.
I have heard of Irpin, I’ve been following the war closely. I sincerely hope your country prospers after this time of crisis. You have exceeded all expectations after first holding back the initial invasion, and the pushing back with limited resources. I’m proud my country has been assisting from so far away, and recently a couple of Australian army veterans serving with Ukraine were killed there in an artillery strike. RIP. ❤

the american dream is hard to find for a large percentage of americans. imagine, how many more obstacles a foreigner would run into. we tend to forget that a LARGE percentage (homeownership is 66%, so non-ownership is easily done with math) of americans DONT own a home, they rent from someone else.
I know right. All the beautiful land is horded. And even if tou find a cool little spot, you can't even take a picture of it with a dslr camera. [Need a permit] Hahaha! Land of the free right?
I live in Illinois for past 23years would pay pretty penny to move back , here in USA u will never own property , unlike in poland its going to be always yours even if u pass away will stay in ur family
You guys know nothing about Europe clearly. House ownership is even lower (below 50%) in Europe and the entry point is so much higher (you often need 20% down and there’s a lot of taxes to pay upfront often around 8%). This means that e.g in Germany house ownership is reserved for people who inherit from their families. Immigrants have basically no chance to own a house ever. Even with decent jobs in industry as the taxes are so horrendously high, you can barely save. I moved from Europe to US and can tell you the American dream is still much more alive than what you get in Europe these days….

I'm French and moved to Poland 7 years ago. I live in Warsaw so obviously when people ask me I always make sure that they understand that my experience is solely about Warsaw. But I was never expecting to find a country with both as much culture and potential. The more I am in this country, the more I realize it will become one of the most important European country in a few years. And obviously, the nature is just incredible in this country. I am always amazed when I take my bike and end up in the middle of nowhere in only a few kilometers, something I could not dream of in western europe. I have been several time in the carpathian mountain in winter and only once in summer. I definitely must try it in autumn as the colors look just amazing.

I’m from Polish origin, totally fluent, but have no Polish family left and do not really know Poland. Did return there since the 1990ies. I’m looking for someone like you. Eva, I'm one of those who ditched the suburbs and moved to a rural Oregon setting outside of Eugene 11 years ago after retiring at the "old" age of 55. Gwynn and I starting living the life that the suburbs couldn't provide: bringing the horses home to roam their own pastures, chickens for fresh eggs, an orchard for fresh apples and peaches, and a huge garden. All this with a Costco, MoC, and Whole Foods just a 30 minute drive away. As wonderful as it sounds, there is a catch, and that is the continuous never ending maintenance of the grounds. The pastures need to be maintained, the kilometer of 3 rail fencing that needs painting every few years, planting, weeding and watering the garden, mowing the yard, and guarding against wildfires in late summer. Then there is the care of our horses which require daily attention. Horse care is what really limits our travel opportunities, as finding the conscientious care is difficult and expensive. While not affecting you, but as you approach your 7th decade on the planet, what you could do in a day when you were younger, starts taking several days to complete.
As far as neighbors, those around you are generally seeking the same serene quality of life that you are. Secondly they become a micro community that pulls together when the situation dictates and will respond to requests for assistance. They will also keep an eye on your home when you are traveling.
We have no regrets for undertaking the suburb to rural transition, but there are times of difficulty. My suggestion for a person with your lifestyle would be to focus on the land and location. Begin developing your land for living simply, with plans for the future. An example would be to construct what we call a pole barn locally, to provide indoor parking for Odyssey and where you can include a simple interior walled living area with power, heat, along with a bedroom and sanitary facilities. When you decide to construct your home, the prior construction could become a studio/work area or some other needed secondary use.

A few years ago, we bought an abandoned home that needed an incredible amount of work and a couple of years in time to turn our vision into reality. The saving grace, one that I didn't think about, was quick access to building materials. The home was less than two miles from a building supply store and every time I needed something....which was most days....I could pick it up in 5 minutes. In retrospect, If I had to travel and transport over long distances, the renovation would have been a nightmare. And a lengthy one as well. Think about that when you choose a turn-key home versus a fixer-upper. The fixer-upper can be tempting, particularly if you're a dreamer who can readily envision the wonderful place it could be. But it's not necessarily the smart or cheaper way to go. Be careful and good luck! Glad to see the Defender successfully made the trip across the Atlantic!
For months I had searched in vain for something in the solitude of Finland. When I hadn't expected it anymore, I found my dream place with half a ruin on it. Believe in it and never lose sight of your dream. 🤞🤞🤗

@@darlenegriffith6186 In Finland since 2008. Cold and long winters are not a problem. The darkness is a problem. And OK, when in March you see that the rest of Europe is enjoying spring while we still wear our arctic clothes… 😅

@@karolinamackiewicz514 The long time of darkness and also the long time of brightness has something very special and wonderful for me. Just being able to stand under the Northern Lights on a clear night is worth every effort. Good nutrition and plenty of exercise (including some vitamin D) makes the lack of sunlight a little easier to bear.
@@darlenegriffith6186 Finland is not Finland. It depends on where you live. In the cities in the south, winters are easier to bear for many than in the far north of Lapland.
Personally, I live in the northwest near Kolari and right on the Swedish border. Here, life is harsher in winter and it is more demanding. But if you learn to live with nature and not against it, then you've come to the right place.
I live in Germany, practically next door to Poland. And though I travelled Europe with my Van for a couple of years now - and my parents took me to Poland when I was a child - I only recently discovered Poland as a magnificent travel destination. So much beautiful nature, so much space, so friendly people, so much culture. It's definitely a gem!

Eastern Europe is one of my favourite place in the world! Romania, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Czech, Hungary (central-east)...amazing, amazing! I was so in awe of their history and places I've seen. People are so kind too (unlike what people say based on stereotypes of the "stone-faced, cold Eastern Europeans").

Poland is one of our favorite countries, it is not too cold during winter and it is not too hot during summer months. Poland is clean, pretty, safe and cheap country to live in. Polish houses look like swedish buildings! Poland is very different what it was just a decade ago. Poland is a very western Europe nowdays. Poland is beautiful!

This isn't a black and white consideration though. There are compromises that are between living in fear in the hospital parking lot and living in a situation where your chance of receiving timely medical care in case of a heart attack, stroke, or accident are basically zero. I think you can make access to medical care part of your decision process without "living in fear". Cheers.
I'm Hungarian living in Hungary. We visit the High Tatras at least twice a year! It's a magical place! I'm a little bit sad, because I loved your American content, but I'm also so happy to see you in your home country. Hopefully you will find the best place to settle down!

Oh, that was a weird moment ... When you were talking about not expecting to ever come back and there's a shot of you touching a birch tree, ... I just burst out crying. I'm 50, living in Australia, but originally from Norway. And that moment got to me. As much as adventure is fun, there are roots that are in need of nurture, if only from time to time.
Do you ever miss your homeland of Norway? I would imagine it is quite different from Australia.

I feel you! And birch trees... I think that's something only Scandinavians and Eastern Europeans can truly understand!
@@evazubeck yes, they are truly special trees, even how we get sweet nectar in the spring, or make seljefløyte (birch rolled bark flute) from it, the smell of the spring pollen, the crisp sound of it in a winter fireplace, the sound it makes in the summer breeze or the winter drizzle sound, the first green sprouts of spring, the first yellowing and wild fires of autumn, the gentle touch of the bark, the welcome white of it in the dark hours, the silver glint of the tree line (a magical line of height of mountains from where trees stop growing, and it's all miss and brush, except for the silver birch with their tortured branches) ... There's a reason (at least Norwegian) poetry and culture is brimming with birch, such a magical tree. I miss the birch. We do get them here in Australia, but they feel both alien and not quite the same.

Fascinating. I can`t believe the high prices. We bought a cottage in beautiful quiet Normandy with 4 hectares of interesting land and a wood, no neighbours, quiet little road, endless wildlife, for 130,000 euros. Having renovated it`s worth a little more but french house prices never really go up even if you do loads of work because the french don`t want to live in the countryside in old houses.
I was always kind of surprised that while being from Poland you wanted to live in the US. The nature in your homecountry is just as beautiful!
Europe has been settled by so many more people for so much longer than the Americas that it's more difficult to find large, wild spaces there. More difficult, but not impossible.

I am Danish, but my wife is Polish and is from the same area as Kasia and Leszek, and its absolutely amazing down there. If i would ever see my self move somwwhere it would be to that area. We are goinf back this winter to spend time with the polish family over Christmas 🎄
Poland is a beautiful country. My wife is from Kujawy and my mother's family is from Masury. Now we've bought an acre of land in Grudziadz....

I too moved from Poland to the UK when I was a child, I never planned to ever move countries… but after some dramatic life changes, in 2020 I made the leap and moved to Poland. I have not regretted it since. The beautiful natural environment here never fails to amaze me and it has been so precious being close to my family after most of my life. I am in the process of buying a home here, so looks like I’m staying for a while at least!

Straight away when first watching the video and seeing the trees you can tell it is Europe.

Here in Western Australia we do not have mountains only high hills, down south there is a few higher peak so called mountains.
Here in Western Australia the bush is a dull green, Poland the rich greenery and the variety of colours from the leaves.
Problem living here in Australia is one small spark the whole bush goes up in flames and courses destruction for miles.
Seeing this beautiful country side of Poland is magical, no words to describe it.

Being from the Midwest US, my jaw is dropping at the properties and prices! The big house would be a million dollar property in the US, even if it was sitting in the middle of a cornfield! These polish properties are very expensive - minimum wage in Poland is 2700 PLN on hand while the median is around 3400 PLN.
Tons of cheap land in the Midwest. Even western new York is full of cheap land
Im assuming shes somewhere in the range of $200k to $350k I could absolutely find her what shes looking for in the US if she didnt mind something really remote. Could maybe even swing Rocky Mountains. If shed do foothills or Appalachians I definitely could find her 5-10 acres and a small cabin. I do love Poland though and dont blame her at all for wanting to settle there

You dodged a bullet (I feel). Choosing between buying and living in Europe over the US is a no brainer for me. I’d give anything to move to Europe. And would choose Europe a million times over. (As of right now in my life).
It's so funny that I'm in the opposite situation right now... Born in Europe but grew up in the US, moved back to Europe a few years ago and now I'm desperate to get back 'home' to the US. I miss it so much...

High Tatras mountains, rivers, lakes, caves, warm lowlands, prehistoric forests, castles,…. so many features in small area👍 I wish you and all those you love all the best! Ahhh… Tatry! My favourite area of my former homeland. I visited many times in my youth, on the south side of the mountains in Slovakia.

I am still surprised you did not look here in Western Canada. Prices are not as high as in the US, and there is a plenty of beautiful open wild spaces with few people, which is what you seem to desire.
Our 11 acres of raw land was a bit over 150k Canadian, but the views are priceless. Building from scratch is a lot of work but it’s the most satisfying thing I have done in my life.
We are OFF GRID BOUND. When you are back in Canada (as I am sure you will one day), stop by! 😀

has just been so cool. Now, I will revisit Poland more frequently and it’s not too far from Switzerland either. Get your house there, it’s in the center of Europe, it’s affordable and Poland needs people investing in this beautiful country.

My wife and I (Americans in Europe) have similarly struggled with the multi-directional pull to nature versus the comforts of the city, to stay in the social safety of Europe versus greater uncertainties in the US. We still don't know where we'll ultimately end up. But hot damn! You made a great case for visiting the Polish mountains. That's moving to the top of the list for 2024.
As a woman who is self taught at fixing my own home I am very excited to see this turn of events in your channel. Sad you had to let go of your Montana dream (it's so breathtaking there) but virtually going along to see homes in Poland is so interesting, hope to see more in the future!
I think the prices in Eastern Europe have gone way up! I am from former Czechoslovakia and we traveled to Ukrainian villages in Carpathian mountains back in 60' and 70' to spend summers with my mom's relatives. I loved the primitive style of living I experienced in those times . Now I am in Alaska and in process to move back to Southern Arizona where I bought raw piece of land in middle of nowhere east side of Chiricahua Mountains almost on New Mexico border. Will be converting shed to tiny home off grid and raise farm animals. I love watching your videos!

I realized after watching the real easte over inflated price build up leading to the 08 market crash. That most of the real estate game is one big racket fueled by greed. Overinflated home prices, loan rates, property taxes & home owners insurance rates all Overinflated by greed. Preying on young & other inexperienced 1st time home buyers. In early 2000s I thought the rapidly rising prices was just the norm and sign of the times. I thought "I better buy a fixer upper before prices keep going higher." Which in hindsight was a bad idea.

You are so lucky to be able to go back and explore this option for yourself at this point in your life, I think. Those Carpathian mountains in the distance are called the Tatra Mountains. Once, I was backpacking in Poland, and we hiked from Chocholów to Zakopane through those meadows. It was truly beautiful, and those stunning wooden houses, like the first one, were everywhere.

Poland fall is also very beautiful, I like the different colours of the leaves. So many times we have to venture far away to look for something we love to find it near us right our door step. I guess we don’t know what we want initially but once we do, it’s easier to find something similar at our own front yard. Take your time to find your dream house, good luck!
I cried watching this video. Not sure why. Maybe beacause i left Poland when I was 23 and lived/travelled to various places around the world. Now Im 43 and for the last 3 years I lived in Poland. I'm from the US and lived in Kraków during my master's, and got to spend time in Zakopane. I had no idea beforehand that Poland had such 'alpine' mountains, It's so beautiful and I found it so cozy and it still felt more 'wild' than other mountains in Europe as you said. Such a beautiful place and Poland is close to my heart. It seems the perfect place to settle in Europe since Montana didn't work out

@@evazubeck it seems quite likely that real estate prices will go down sometime in the next few years, right now there is a bubble in prices since 2020 thanks to you know what & all the inflation / economic issues that have resulted. many properties have doubled in price since 2020. i would be patient and maybe rent something affordable until land / property is more reasonably priced. there are also affordable properties in Arizona, if you check out nomadic fanatic he has some videos on developing some land to stay on with his RV.
I was born in Warsaw and every free time I had, I spent at Mazurian Lakes. There is no better place on earth for summer vacation than Mazury. Fall time is beautiful in Carpathian Mountains. I live in NYC right now and Pennsylvania is kind of cross between Carpathian Mountains and Mazurian Lakes but with run of the mill standard.

It's so nice to hear you speaking po Polsku. You guys speak it so quickly that (for me, anyway) it's good to have the captions on! My dad had Lithuanian blood in him and was from the Kresy near Suwałki and mom was from near Ostrołęka. Dad used to say the lakes up there were the most beautiful in the world. Best mushrooms too. Yeah, I was there as a kid and I remember how beautiful it was. We never made it to the mountains because we had no family there. My dad actually considered going to Siberia because there were some family members out there that were relocated courtesy of the Russian Govt but the US and the USSR weren't on the best of terms back then.@@mikezabo3134

I learned more about my Native USA from your videos than I ever knew. I lived in Belgium for 3 yrs, and visited about 20 different countries. That was an awesome experience. I think Netherlands was my favorite country.
I was SO excited to watch this video! I was born in Poland, moved away (well, more like parents escaped communism by lying at the border) at age 3, and now live halfway across the world on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I still understand Polish ok, so it was so fun hearing the language. I have such fond memories of visiting the Tatry as a teenager and young adult, and it always felt like one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in the world. Next time I go back to Poland, I would love to stay at Gorna Chata. And I will so enjoy living vicariously through your house-hunting journey in the Polish mountains!

I've never been to Poland but I have been to the northern parts of eastern Slovakia, in the heart of the Tatras mountains just south of the Polish border, so I had the opposite view of the same mountain range as you from their southern side. Gorgeous countryside and no less stunning than our own mountainous regions in the US and Canada. I'm sure you'll find yourself right at home there.
What a bonus speaking the language. As a Brit speaking very little of the language of my new home it would make handling landlords, builders and paperwork so much easier.

This year in Summer we drove to Lithuania from the UK and I feel we should detour to the Carpathains next time as the drive past Poznan,Lodz etc isn't as spectacular scenery wise. 20 years ago I would do the trip in 24hrs. Nowadays it's more exhausting taking the Kids and we also need stop overs..
Look for land in the mountains, not a house. You can get a premade wooden cabin installed on the plot of land quite affordably.

Buy you're new home in the south where it is warmer. If you feel the need for snow skiing or winter anything just hop in the old 4x4 and make a week or weekend of it. The older you get, (I am 72) the less you like what it is like living where there are harsh winters. I moved from the mountains of Nevada 12 years ago to central Texas and like the year round weather here. Yes it get cold, a bit of icy conditions, but nothing like where we lived in Nevada. The house we have now cost $18,000 and only has 4 acres, but it is not in the city. Takes me 3 hours to mow the yard. Which stays green and grows year round.
I always wondered what Poland was like, my grandmother on my Dad's side was of Polish descent, but that side of the family is all gone now. I never thought of asking when I was a kid, where in Poland they were from. If only I had a time machine to go back and ask questions.
I lived in Poland as a child and to this day Zakopane is one of my fave places on earth. Hang in there, you'll find your and Vilk's special place!

Eva! I feel like even if you set your home base in Poland this doesn’t mind that you will stop traveling around the globe . It just means that you will have a kind of base camp where you can always go back! Idk maybe I’m the only one who feels that way but in my opinion Even if I love to travel and I like to call the earth my home I feel also safe knowing there is a place somewhere in the world that I can feel like it’s “mine” where I can always go back. Idk if it makes any sense to any body I try my best to put my feelings in words but English it’s not my first language.

All my grandparents immigrated from Poland to the U.S. about 110 years ago - and now as a retired second generation Polish-American I'm living in rural France. The "nomadic heart" is such an interesting this to understand in oneself I think. I find it impossible to explain to most family and friends who have spent most of their live's "rooted" somewhere. I have often thought I'd like to really "settle down" too, yet here I am retired and at age 71 my wife and I are still nomads - now living along the Dordogne river in southern France. Maybe it is that we "nomads" feel the "whole world" is "our home?" My wife and I agree that would love to stay here and settle - we love it here - we love the French village culture here which is human scale and humane. We shall see. We must trust our hearts will lead us.

My relatives left Poland over 100 years ago and though I've never been, I feel gravitated toward it. But American born and bred, in my heart I'll always been a Tennessee man. Love the wilderness out west here as well and there is land to be had and for the cheap. You just have to know where to look.

That is the trick. Eva should have checked out other places besides Montana. Montana is expensive because the movie stars all have houses there. America is huge.
@@TheDesertwalker Most any rural county, or outside the city limits. More people are moving to red states or Republican stats out of blue democrat stats. Concentrate on the red stats/Republican states. In east TN Anderson country, Cock County, rural Blount county and many others. Knoxville and Maryville are building up massively and quickly. New houses, condos, commercial building is at an all time high, so any land you get now will only increase in value as the stat continues to add population. I'd avoid the Nashville area unless you get away from the city center there. Eva went online looking. One can do that but if you physically also scout out areas, the better deals don't end up online. Individuals also selling land who don't use agents are common place. I personally feel safer living here in the USA than Europe. At any time your so close to possible waring nations their politics and risks are high. Here where the nation is larger and some more freedoms protected and an ocean as barriers is a good thing.

I never forget you once said you'd want to settle in Romania in the mountains with a lot of horses when you got old enough to settle.
I've been dreaming of getting a piece of land in Romania for you and me and other nomadic souls ever since you said that.
But as time goes by I also learned there's some magic in living in a country and being able to speak the mothertongue with everyone, which is Danish for me.

Come next door Eva , here to Czech Republic . Prices are better in general, Im Canadian got my " Oasis" here near the border side of Germany . Mine is 450 sqm house , with 1000 sqm land around it in small village. Everything made with top quality German, Swiss material inside out for around 450k USD. Came with solar panels , which was cherry on top. You may want to consider that and energy efficient homes, since we paid some of the highest prices for energy here in EU. Plus Czechia language is close to Polish , and cultures are very similar, you'll have no problem integrating. Its helpful that we are near Germany and their logistic, industrial base, we can get pretty much anything like we have back home. From tech and good quality foods.

House hunting can be a challenge. Take your time and do it right. Find something you can live with at a price you can afford.

Hello Eva! I can relate to this video a little. I bought a 10 acre property in a very remote place in Puerto Rico being 24 years old. It has been a life changing challenge and I am in the process from the ground up as I don’t have a structure just pathways and a big plain made in the past. I personally love the fact of starting everything from zero but it has its challenges. Wish you all the luck. Thanks for all the beautiful content.

Poland is so beautiful, I remember that area of the world so vividly. Good luck finding your dream location. If you choose the location first, as discussed, you can work from there and ultimately be happier. I don't know what permitting and building codes are like in that region, but here in the U.S. we can buy a lot of land and have a prefab home dropped on site and all you would need is a simple foundation. It's one option that is very cost effective if available. Tiny homes to modular units to expand later and even full size homes can be purchased.

What a wonderful journey! In terms of every meaning. After travelling for so many years, returning home to the roots and family, does not mean the end of the journey, at all. It only means that we need a safe base camp. As we getting older, we realize that there isn’t a better place for this base camp than our childhood home. We don’t give up travelling, just good to know that we have something that is our own and it is possible to return there anytime we want.

Looks lovely! A buddy of mine immigrated from Poland and he used to talk about the beauty of the Tatra Mountains in southern Poland. I'm guessing the Tatra's are a subrange of the Carpathians. At least that's the way it looks on the map. It's great for you that they are still somewhat of a hidden gem. Makes the house prices more affordable!
