People always found reasons to criticize Pep:
      - They said he was nothing without Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi.
      - Some called him a coward for staying in Barcelona instead of proving himself elsewhere.
      - Others argued he only managed the best clubs and bought referees.
      - There was even talk that he couldn't do anything without Tito, who was seen as the real brains behind Pep.
      - Critics claimed he only bought players with low centers of gravity and worked with short players.
      - They said Pep's tiki-taka was dead and his possession style had been figured out.
      - Some argued he was nothing without KDB.
But despite it all, Pep kept doing his thing and even surpassed Sir Alex, once considered the greatest coach ever.
That's why Sir Alex tried to get Pep for United for years but couldn't.

again, see my other comment above, but its not about total spend, it's about how much they get to keep - how much playing depth is actually available at any given time. The spend in Liverpool means turnover as they find the right players for their team, but they cannot afford to automatically go for the top expensive players nor keep the depth of squad that City has the luxury of at all times. Yes... but you obviously don't know that much about Klopp because he did the same thing... created winning teams in multiple leagues from lesser teams. But Guardiola was fortunate to start with Barca (still a top 2 team in that league) which again became a top $ team and has meant that he has been able to continue at the most expensive clubs. And that break can't be explained without also realising that he had a young Messi - the ultimate trump card. Klopp has worked with teams that didn't have the financial muscle and yet won - but none of them were able to afford the depth of the teams Guardiola has been able to manage. Klopp has gone forward with the same mentality, always looking for teams which were underdogs and where he could painstakingly craft something special with less money and often youth.
Don't forget, that is what Arteta is doing at Arsenal and in the future people will look back on his career in a same light.

    - Two times he was found guilty of taking doping as a player
    - Barcelona stands accused of bribing referees in the timespan Pep was manager at Barcelona
    - He fired the medical team and doctors at Bayern Munich and later hired his go-to doctor aka then doctor who prescribed him with doping in his playing days and has been involved in many doping scandals
    - His current club Manchester City stand accused of a mindnumbing 115 breaches of the financial fair play rules
It is weird how every club with relation to Guardiola has some dark shadow looming over it.

Pep has never been relegated, Klopp was relegated with Mainz in 2006-07 and then in 2007-08, ONLY finished 4th in the 2nd league! In the BL Klopp fled from Pep and now he is fleeing from Pep again in the PL and if it weren't for City, Arsenal would be much stronger than the Liverpool losers, that's exactly what he has weighed up and is fleeing again! In 9 years at Liverpool he only has 1 PL title, including 5 years without a single title! He also has a negative world record with 11 lost finals. The last 4 finals 2x Carabao Cup both against Chelsea over 120 minutes, 1 FA Cup against Chelsea over 120 minutes and 1x CL against Real Madrid, Liverpool have only scored a single goal and that was from a corner in the 119th minute!

      Transfers:
      Liverpool:
      928 million in
      584 million out
net spend of 343 million €
      Man City
      1505 million in
      694 million out
net spend of 811 million €
Salaries (by season from 2016/17, in pounds as i couldnt find data in euros):
      Liverpool:
      84,74 million (16/17)
      86,83 million (17/18)
      122,98 million (18/19)
      128,40 million (19/20)
      132,86 million (20/21)
      136,24 million (21/22)
      160,87 million (22/23)
      135,51 million (23/24)
over these years Liverpool spent 988,43 million in salaries
      Man City:
      118,20 million (16/17)
      126,49 million (17/18)
      145,21 million (18/19)
      146,52 million (19/20)
      184,31 million (20/21)
      209,54 million (21/22)
      185,24 million (22/23)
      191,41 million (23/24)
over these years Man City spent 1306,92 million in salaries
I'll take the easy way to combine this and just calculate the transfer euros to pound because it would be too much work otherwise even if this isn't the correct way to do it but you get the gist:
Liverpools 343 million euros equal about 293 million pound
Man Citys 811 million euros equal about 693 million pound
in total Liverpool spent 293+ 988,43 = 1281,43 million pound
in total Man City spent 693+ 1306,92= 1999,92 million pound
1281,43 x 1,56 equals around 199,92 meaning Man City spend 56% more money than Liverpool.
in my opinion that's a huge discrepancy and i already used the net spend and wages which are favourable for city as they don't include players that are loaned out, etc. even though they would help the club later.

There is a BIG difference in the budget that Klopp has and the budgets of the other richest clubs in sport, of which Man City is one. They have a lot more money at their disposal, but also something just as important - and something they are being looked at for is the way they move players around between their many teams, City & Girona being the key ones. There's possibly fines and points deductions to come out of it as some would say that it "games" the system and creates and unfair advantage. Liverpool has not had that luxury - but both of them spend the money to find the right player fits, but City has actually got a notably more expensive team on the pitch. Liverpool's team does not have the depth in terms of quality (because they can't afford to keep the same weight of players on their books) and this has bitten Liverpool in the player juggling and injuries that comes with attempting to be competitive in 4 top level competitions at the same time.
BUT you must not forget Guardiola's background, what he did at Barca and Bayern, and remember that money just doesn't automatically mean success (so many good examples of that truism). And remember that while Barca had Messi, Barca (while not poor) never had the financial muscle of Real Madrid yet he created a team that dominated La Liga and Champions League for so many years. In some ways he was on the same end of the equation as Klopp when he was at Barca, though he did have Messi and that is a trump card - still didn't work for PSG though and they had arguably the top 3 footballers on the planet at the time too. Those years of rivalry between Barca and Real Madrid were special, just as the years of City v Liverpool have been insane competition and unforgettable drama.
I don't think you can split Guardiola and Klopp - they are both equally good, managing teams in different ways but getting unbelievable results and ability out of them.

I think Klopp’s a very good manager and he also comes across as a nice decent guy as well, but I really can’t understand how and why people even talk about him in the same context as Pep.
Is 1 premier league title really considered the benchmark of a “great” manager over 8 years?

Pep will never be able to build a team that is financially weak. Yes, he still spots talented players and develops them to world class players but his credentials as an elite Manager will only be justified if he is in a team where he has to manage mediocre players and build a team with less financial power.

I am of the firm belief that Pep would have won so much more if he coached Liverpool or United with the kind of history and pedigree those two clubs had. Coaching city, he had to work twice as hard.
There's also this wrong notion that Liverpool doesn't spend millions on signing players. We'll, that notion is a lie. Just look it up.
History has also shown us that a player's transfer fee doesn't determine the quality of the player. The fact that one player is more expensive than another doesn't make him a better player than the other. At one point in time, Liverpool had the most expensive goalkeeper, most expensive defender and most expensive striker in the epl.

again, see my other comment above, but its not about total spend, it's about how much they get to keep - how much playing depth is actually available at any given time. The spend in Liverpool means turnover as they find the right players for their team, but they cannot afford to automatically go for the top expensive players nor keep the depth of squad that City has the luxury of at all times. Klopp has welded together a playing team that is much less value than City fields at any time.

I look at it like this:
Klopp built his teams with his vision. He did a lot, with a LOT less.
Was never gifted a great team. Always inherited an uphill project.
Klopp CREATES legends, doesn't have to buy them.
Guardiola, who is brilliant, has never had an uphill battle. Always gifted the best team in the world (Bayern, Barca, City).
Buys legends, doesn't create them. Has endless money, and cheats.
    I don't think it's particularly close.
Put Guardiola in LFC in 2016 and he is sacked after the first season because he simply can't do what klopp can do.
But Klopp could walk into any team and make them successful.

Yeah Pep is good but he can't do it with a low budget team since he loves to spend big. Klopp circumstances has been quite unfavourable since he's trusted with dying clubs to revive. Despite the odds he turns this average teams and players to elite squad and title contenders.
That is why I think Klopp is a better manager than Pep. But one could argue Peps success is far ahead.

How do you know that where is your evidence that he can’t stop making speculation without the evidence to back it up. Wherever Pep has gone he has always provided. There is a reason why Pep would never manage a small club and that’s is simply because he is to good for any big club not to sign him. Any team right now would trade there manager in a heart beat to get Pep. And this notion that Klopp would have done better with a big budget the why didn’t Real Madrid not come for Klopp or Bayern when Pep left them?🤷🏽‍♂️ Y’all make coaching big budget clubs look easy hey if it wa so easy to be a big budget manager then tell me this why has every manager since Ferguson at man united completely fail to do the job if money wasn’t a problem.

@@thabangmalaza2621 Listen no manager is too good for any club. When Pep joined Barca, the squad was world class. But he had to change things around to suit him because the money was available. Before he joined Bayern, he learned the language for one year and we all know why he joined because, they have money. Before he joined Man.City, the Arabs had already taken over and he was assured to be given whatever budget he wants to build the club, well that's why hey have 115 charges. Pep is not too good for any club, he just won't go to club not willing to give him what he wants. That is why Klopp edges him with that attribute because he creates something out of nothing. We all know Dortmund were having financial crisis but amidst that, he managed to turn things around and used average players to win titles and turned them elite. Some of those players were bought by Pep himself to Bayern😂 because 'once Pep always Pep'. Liverpool were struggling as well, the clubs financial situation was bad. But when Klopp arrived, he managed to create an elite team to challenge titles and won some as well despite the crisis. Again the average players he bought for 8m to 15m, became world class and even sold some to top clubs for over 60m. He did buy expensive players though but that was after selling P.Cotinho for 105m rising 142m because of some clauses.
Klopps disadvantage was low budgets but he managed to to turn things around.
Pep is damn good, but could he have done it with Dortmund and Liverpool looking at how they were struggling with much crisis?🤷 We will never know. But if you know Pep, he loves to spend. And I don't think he could have done it and won't go to teams like that.
Klopp is respected because of how he manages to build a system where there is a shaky foundation. And let me tell you he is the best Manager that suits Manchester United or any club but we can never dream of having him because he managed Liverpool.
So to me, Klopp is the best manager in the world and that attribute is what edges him over Pep.
