  • In this Optistruct tutorial, we will perform submodeling in Hypermesh. This is also known as global-local analysis.
    Model setup is performed in Hypermesh and the Optistruct solver is used to extract the results. The post-processing of FEA results is done using Hyperview.

    Hi Swap thanks for sharing this, it is a good modeling technique to show a comparison between global vs local stress analysis. In lot of cases local models are preferred to perform structural assessment on specific parts of interest. Global models also come in handy showing further load distribution to interfacing components, which is a reason why stress reduction is shown as covered in your presentation. So it is up to analysts decision how to idealize the environment based on assessment objectives.

    Well done Swapnil! An excellent presentation of a long anticipated procedure. As in every "global to local" (or submodeling, or "zoom analysis"), it is a good practice to plot the reaction forces both on the global model and the local one in order to confirm that the values match each other. Thank you!

    Courd U please make one about geometry processing for complicated structure with T-joints and various thicknesses. Where it's gonna require some midsurface creation for thin parts and appropriate 2D mesh and some 3D mesh at latch locations (where thickness is too big and it should be considered as solid). That would be some doors or lids with complex machined edges.

    Fantastic video. A few questions:
    1. If we want to further refine the mesh, can we add another submodel and only run it or do we have to run all subcases (including the large global model) again?
    2. How is this method different from including Grid Point Forces in the output of the global model, and then importing those results to a FBD in the submodel?
    3. If we refine the submodel mesh a lot, how do we avoid the stress concentrations at the nodes of the local mesh that are equivalenced with the global mesh?
    Thanks.

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks Vim. Good questions! Here are my inputs-
      1. Yes, you can create multiple submodels in the same run (using the same global model). In fact, you can also use one of the submodels as a global model and break it down further into sub-sub models! Just make sure that you define the loadsteps in correct order (loadcase ID). Global runs should always be first, followed by local runs or the solver will throw an error. I hope this is clear!
      2. Major difference is that in this method, you can run the global and local models in one go! No need to perform separate runs for global and local models. Another major advantage is that the number of steps involved in setting up the analysis is much lesser as compared to using thr FBD tool. So preprocessing will be faster!
      3. You can create derived results in Hyperview where the stress result is averaged over certain number of adjacent elements (or layers of elements). This will mitigate the localized stress concentration, at least to some extent!
      I hope the above points answer your questions! For further discussion, feel free to reach out via email :)

    Hi, very good video!
    But I have one question. Is that any option to run local submodel analysis only? Sometimes bigger model analysis takes too long and will be perfect to run it as a submodel only. Did you hear about it?
    Thanks!

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  Před 2 lety +4

      Hi Artur, the concept of submodeling is based on the principle of mapping the results obtained from global model onto the local submodel. Submodeling is not an alternative to solving the global model. Hence, it is not possible to run only the submodel. You need to run the bigger analysis first for this method to work!
      I hope this information helps!

    Can you help me to fix this error?

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  Před 2 lety +1

      This error will occur if there are rigid elements in the model that are not directly connected to the submodel. The solution is simple. Deselect the 'Include rigid elements' (SID_R) option while defining the loadsteps. This will resolve the error!

    Hi I am sorry for out of topic
    Did you know why the Hypermesh is so heavy application
    I have Hypermesh 2023 suite in my PC (Ryzen 5600X, 16Gb RAM, RTX 3060 12Gb). My computer lagging so much even if only I import geometry
    The geometry is a simple small 1Part (motorcycle shock absorber head)
    Actually there is nothing suspicious in the Windows Task manager (CPU 10~20%, RAM 50%)
    I don't know why this can possibly happen
    Is there anything that I can do to make the application lighter?

      Hi there,
      My PC is 16GB RAM as well, and it's almost 5 years old now. I have absolutely no problem using HyperWorks on my PC. The application is smooth, I think something is wrong with the settings used to run the application on your machine.
      I'm not an expert in hardware things so I don't think I can help much in this regard. Maybe someone else can pitch in!
