  • In this Optistruct tutorial, we will perform a discrete size optimization using Hypermesh. Size optimization is used to numerically determine thickness values for sheet metal and hollow circular components.
    Preprocessing will be done using Hypermesh and the results will be visualized in Hyperview.

    Excellent video. A small suggestion. For such videos if you use pre meshed components then it will reduce the run time of videos as it will be focused only on the analysis. Also, if you can share the input files in the description that would be great.
    In my opinion your videos are the best in this field on CZcams

    Is the ddval (direct design variable, dvs) necessary to perform a size optimization? Optistruct seems to allow the option to optimize without a ddval.

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  Před 7 měsíci +2

      It is not necessary. However, it helps if you have manufacturing constraints on the thickness.

    Nice to see the sizing work can be easily done using this size optimization to determined the desired thickness. For the sizing works, it's pretty typical to get the freebody extracted at the peak or bending sensitive areas and do the hand calcs to avoid any potential modeling errors or singularity effects. Does the hypermesh have a pretty good freebody tool?

      Hello Ken, good to see you! I hope you are doing well.
      Indeed this type of optimization is very handy and can greatly reduce the manual workload. Hypermesh has a robust FBD tool. I had used it in the 'Global-local tutorial' if you remember. However, I believe this is a better method to determine optimum sizes!
