  • Topology Optimization is one of the most important types of analysis in the design of structural components. In this video, we will set up and run a topology optimization using Hypermesh and Optistruct.
    The main objective of this analysis is to reduce the weight of a component without affecting its structural performance.
    We will perform the simulation on a simple bracket and specify appropriate optimization parameters.
    Optistruct solver will be used to run the simulation and the results will be viewed using Hyperview.

    Excellent PSOLID (solid elements) optimization to reduce weight using volume fraction (strain energy kind of thing). There is no stress constraint in this method, although stress values are within limits.

    @kenkim2687 Před 3 lety +1

    Very educated tutorials always. This would do just fine for the analysts who just step into the topology optimization area. To get into more details, this method is often used to track “load path” of new material trials for R&D purposes. Each material has own mechanical properties and has different strain response based on poisson’s ratio. Design constraints are also assigned for Ftu, Fty, or deformation limits, as well as minimizing compliance (strain) and weight. You can also limit the element size for the inner solid elements to homogenize it overall as the gradual size change is set to be default for reducing computational time. As additive 3D printing application is becoming more popular and developed, lettuce optimization is also handy for further weight reduction.

    @snehalpurandare4718 Před 3 lety +2

    Good one. There are some things which needs to be considered while performing optimization. What’s the reason of performing optimization , is it to reduce weight only or stresses as well? Even if you increase the load or decrease it you will get this exact same results. One more constraint is required. Displacement or stress constraint. Always check stresses after the Optimization to see if optimised part are not having higher stress than the design space

    • @Aeroswap
      @Aeroswap  Před 3 lety

      Agreed. I have demonstrated the process to apply stress constraints in many of my optimization tutorials. It is one of the most important factors for any optimization. If the optimized shape shows stress concentration above yield limit at any location, it is of no use!

      I think this Error occured because there are no Elements in your Design component, Gildas GUILLY on the Altair forum explained:
      "The problem is your properties : All your model is "NonDesign" and you have no elements with the "Design" Property applied.
      You need to reorganize your model to have elements correctly distributed between your two components (currently all FEM is in on component).
      Use the "Organize" tool to transfer elements from one component to another."
      I did this and got rid of the Error.

      Hi, I had the same issue and solved with reorganizing the mesh. The nondesign mesh has to be in the nondesign component. When you are about to tetramesh the solid, take a look at the bottom and make sure to have "elems to surf/solid comp" selected. The programm will automatically organize the mesh in the different components, because you split the part in the beginning in different solids. I hope it works for you too
