Are Ormsby Guitars Any Good ?

  • hey say instrument making is a calling, rather than a career. You're drawn to it. Without a doubt that is true. It is rarely a case of "when I grow up I want to be a guitar maker". But that is how it was. I did grow up dreaming of making fine instruments. Working with the rock stars and musicians. It just took a while to get there...
I started my working life as a carpenter. It was ok, but the fine woodworking was what I gravitated towards. I transferred across to a cabinet making apprenticeship, and finished my time, achieving the highest marks recorded in our state's history. An apprentice of the year nomination was offered, but the competition wasn't for me. I just wanted to make 'stuff'. I was lucky to be working with a great team, but I needed more. A period of several years as a designer saw me get bored and uninterested, even if the money was more attractive and the workspace a bit cleaner, compared to being back 'on the bench'.
Guitars were my passion. If I wasn't practicing riffs and scales, I'd be sitting there staring at a guitar, trying to work out just how they work. I bored my work colleagues to tears with my constant claims that one day, I'll make a guitar. It would be amazing, I told them. And then one day, I decided I just had to do it; my new years resolution would be to build a guitar. It had to show off my skills as a woodworker, something a bit 'more' than a Les Paul or a Strat. It would have a carved single piece Quilt Maple body, and a carved back. The neck would be laminated, and deep set in. The fretboard would be inlaid with gold and silver Mother of Pearl. I'd bind the ebony fingerboard, and continue the inlay onto the headstock.
Making that guitar was the best thing I could have done. It was life changing. I no longer looked at how I could succeed in life financially... I quit my job, and sold my house.
Before long, as people began to learn of my first guitar, I had clients signed up for their own instruments. It was easier than they said it would be; "they" being other luthiers I'd chatted to. "You can't make a living doing this, it's impossible" was the general cry. I didn't care. Within 18 months of starting out full time, my waiting list had grown to two years. Within a few years, I'd been offered design roles, and later on, master luthier positions with some well known manufacturers. That lack of freedom didn't interest me, I'm not one for consulting with a board of directors. I look back at my body of work over the last ten years, and feel very proud. The feeling of finishing a guitar and plugging it in for the first time, or better still, watching one of my creations played live, is a feeling that will never wane.
    This is what I do.

I got a Futura gtr 7 about a year ago and honestly it plays better than my ESP - E II or Ibanez prestige, they're crazy good guitars. I think I'll grab one of the headless V's in purple when they're available in January. Just found this channel, it's good stuff mate.

Welcome to the family man. I have two Goliaths and I enjoy them a lot. Run 4 and a Run 9. Both of them are very solid, never had an issue, feel great and they sound excellent.

The intro song crushes as always 🤘 I would love to see you shred an ormaby rusty cooley or any kind of caparison guitar 😁

I love my RC-ONE 7 string, it's hands down the best pure shred guitar out there for the money. However I think I like my Caparison TAT Special 7s more overall.
The price difference is huge though, so it really comes down to your preferences.
As far as neck shape goes, the Ormsby has a thin super fast neck as well as being fanned fret though it's pretty subtle.
Caparison actually makes a surprisingly thick neck, but the carve and contour of the necks are ridiculously comfortable. Caparison's pickups are surprisingly awesome, they wind them in house and they have an awesome attack and harmonics.

How do you like the Vs? I'm getting a headless V. It's also got Rock Maple. Never had such before, but I had their roasted maple neck and fretboard on my Goliath 7.

Man, I was never sold on multiscale. Tried an ibanez one of some sort (early one), and couldn't stand it. Came back a few months later and tried an ormsby hype gtr they had in stock (one of the natural 7's), and holy shit it was nice.
Vowed I would get one from then. couldn't afford it at the time.
Few months later I traded my 5150 III for a run 1 hype 7 in the best colour, violent crumble.
Now I have an sx carve 6 that I played at a store, and it was so good, I did not let go of it lmao. Just kept a hold of it and told the staff I couldn't leave without it. first time ever.
Now I have two more on the way. 1 hype gtr ando san sig, and a run 15 tx in dahlia black. Both 7s. Keen af to get them finally. Hype needs one hell of a setup now, so will be getting that set to Bb standard, then the ando to g# standard, and the tx to standard. The sx is half step down as well. Got a tele for standard, and a strat for drop b/ c# standard.
My recent guitar binge has gone against everything I stand for with guitars in recent years, which was not having too many of the same thing. Oh well

@@JossAllenGuitar That is fair. Different strokes and all that. Seems to be one of those ones you either absolutely love, or don't. The scale benefits are a huge plus either side. Get to have stupid low tunings, and high strings that don't feel like telephone wires haha

    @Stretchwreckedem469 Před rokem

I bought an Ormsby Hype GTI for my birthday a while back and it's probably one of the best feeling guitars i've ever owned. Unfortunately i'll have to get a new nut for it because the previous owner had filed the low b string for a 74 gauge string and i use Elixir 10 to 59's, but i don't think it'll be too big of a problem. I'll probably just get a graphtech tusq nut to replace it with unless there are some better options out there.
Also open to suggestions for a replacement nut if anybody has any

I love Ormsby pickups. imo Perry's pickups are as good or better than his guitars, and his customshop pickups are up there with any other boutique brand pickups. They djent, they articulate, they have a really solid blend of fender honk/twang-iness when clean and can blast the front of an amp when needed.

that's surprising. i was blown away by how good the customer service was when ordering mine a couple years back. seems to be the consensus that they go out of their way to make sure their customers are happy based on the community feedback. i have no clue what your circumstances are but maybe reach out to try and find a resolution, hope it works out for you
