      Three hours talking about an amp and all it is capable of doing. Maybe it's too much amp for you? Maybe single volume, gain and tone knobs are better for you? 😆I've played for 40 years and I am appreciative of anyone who will put in the time to cover the ins and outs and capabilities of a modeling amp like this.

    Hey Scott, the reason the panel button was doing that fast flash, was not because it was in panel mode, it was because you had the amp on standby mode. Check it out, and keep up the great work man, you have taught a lot of people great stuff about these awesome amps 👍

    Amazing good indepth video about this amp. I have a MKII Artist. The ability of this amp to mimic about any amp and sound is real. When you consider this with the Boss pedals it offers makes this a bargain not just for new players, but any player. By the way, you can also connect it to any other amp in stereo, you don't need another Katana. I probably would have been happy with the 50w, but based on me loving combos with knobs on the front I went full in. No regrets. This amp also takes any pedal very well. I'm waiting for the next generation of it and well purchase it immediately. Thanks for letting everyone know how addaptive this amp is. =)

    Thanks for making this video! It's inspired me to dig deeper into my 100W Mk.II. I bought it a little while ago, but I've been using a different amp that's already available where I'm reheasing, so I've never got to grips with the Katana. Now with the threat of playing some gigs looming, I reckon it's high time to dust it off again. Your detailed explanation is a real eye-opener as to just how much it's capable of!

      Keep digging and check out some of my tone tutorials. Those might help you with working with individual effects and controls. Work with the Parametric EQ to really dial in a wake it up. It's a lot to take in and quite honestly, I didn't really start deep diving into it until I owned it for a couple years either. I would just load tones and make a few changes. Thanks for watching and I'm glad it helps.

    I just heard of this amp series and I have to admit that once I listened to the reviews I was blown away on how good it sounded! I am picky when it comes to digital amps because there are moments where I just think it doesn’t sound organic and more digital. Flange
    Flanger
    The ‘ang’ is pronounced like Angela
    ang in English he’s actually rather strange and has a number of different possible pronunciations with the long and short, a sound and hard and soft G sound
    Of course there’s anger stranger. Language, Orange to name a few, but as the root of this word is flange, it is known as a flange-er .

    Thank you very much for such very comprehensive review of this amp. Initially I thought it was too long, but as soon as I follow it up, yes, it is very good. One thing that I had problem with this Boss-MKII Artist is when using the looper pedal, we must ensure that there is one button that must be switched on, otherwise the looper pedal is useless. In fact, once I was thinking to by a simpler amp such as Fender Champion 40. Thank you very much for such comprehensive work and cheers from Indonesia.

      I've noticed this with my Boss RC-5 looper pedal when I use it with my xsonic airstep kat... I get no sound on the app and have to unplug the looper and turn it on and off then the amp works again... any idea what's going on? I have my Send/Return set ON and in series
      Edit: Ok so I've only been playing for like 7/months... most of those on a practice kit amp and a few months on a THR10II. Anyway, I just realized I had the SEND/RETRUN on my Boss RC-5 looper pedal hooked up backwards? Whoops, I can only imagine that was the problem. I had it working with just the amp and looper, but I just got my airstep Kat switch (also the GAFC-EX switch) so hopefully they can all work together. I don't know if I wasted money on the GAFC-EX or there's a way to utilize it with the KAT and my Looper pedal somehow. To think I almost got the Boss RC-600... glad I realized I didn't know what I was doing and went simpler Lol

    I bought this amp and tried the tone studio with the eq even had a physical eq in my fx loop. The patches i got honestly didnt sound that good. If you select an overdrive pedal in the amp and have the same pedal physically and hook it up for instance like a blues driver, the amp will always sound better than your pedal. I feel like this is done on purpose to make you use the tone studio. Needless to say I spent more time doing exactly what your doing in this video than actually playing my guitar. I was able to set it up to sounds good but still very digital sounding! I returned it and bought the Orange Super Crush 100 for $130 dollars more and holy cow for a non tube amp it rips and dont regret it for a second!

Aside from how to use this amp I learned what things mean/point.. I’m unplugged acoustic on couch type. Literally first amp I’ve owned along with electric guitar. Bought MK2 100 Head. Using internal speaker for night practice. One day may add small cab for bigger sound. Right now with kids in bed and wife asleep. Time starts around 11pm or so. It’s cheaper than katana air and fully functional... Thank you again

      Thank you so much, Mike! It's very appreciated. All you might really need is a single 12" 8 ohm 100 speaker and simple cab and it'll sound fantastic! Even though a decent set of headphones it sounds great.🤘

    • @mikerogers619
      @mikerogers619 Před 10 měsíci

      For sure man. I tired out fenders mustang headphone amp. Cool as it was with headphones just couldn’t stand it. Used 2-3 times for 2 weeks I had it. Acoustic is grab and go with no strings attached. So I would grab that instead. Tried out Katana Air utilizes auto on feature. Gave me grab and feel most part… as for sound eh. Discovered yesterday mk2 head has that 5” internal. Swapped them out today while saving money on amp… Until I buy WL-50 in future. For now it’ll stay connected or leave cord connected to amp. Grab and connect them flip amp on. Still works for vs cheap ear buds. Head is way over kill for a small practice amp.. But it’s only temporary way and it’s not hard to find used MK2 50 watt used around 150-180 range on marketplace or used cab when ready. Practice amp on steroids today and used as design later… or dead by wife!

    thanks for making this video. i just got the 100w 1x12 version 2 days ago and i honestly didnt have a clue what i was doing before watching this vid. the only amp ive owned previously was a fender frontman 15g with an empress heavy distortion pedal. i dont really play music where having good tone is a big deal (black metal isnt known for good sounding guitars), but its really cool to know more about the amp im using. you explained stuff very clearly and i just wanted to express some gratitude for that. i would give a donation with this comment, but i just spent all my money on the new amp lol. cheers

    I just bought this amp because guy at local store said it was highly recommended. I played through it and it sounded great. He never mentioned all of this extra stuff. Looks like I have some experimenting to do. If I hadn’t just CZcamsd the amp after purchasing I would’ve never known lol. Awesome video.

    This video is excellent. Thank you very much for it (I've seen it multiple times)
    Two things that would be so great, if you can cover on new videos:
    1 - Cuvave chocolate bar with a Katana. It has the amazing capability of not only replacing the GA-FC footswitch but also enabling it for the Katana 50 Mk II (for under 30 bucks)
    2 - Tweaking this amp for acoustic guitar, especially piezo sound (horrible)
    Thanks man!

      I've had one of those Mvave Chocolates in my Amazon cart for a long time. I need to just buy it and play. I've made some acoustic tones. I think the key is the acoustic processor.

    • @ElDami
      @ElDami Před 20 dny

      The cuvave is an insane tool. It isn't only midi, it also sends keyboard keys to a computer (you can pause, go back 10 secs, forward 10 secs) on a video. It can send (I've never tried this one) swipe signals to tablets or cell phones, for the same purpose (video control, flipping music score). Well built, wire and wireless, I do recommend

    I've seen a video where a guy uses his GAFC-EX, Airstep Kat and a boss (RC-5 I think) looper pedal and he rigged it so the stop start was somehow mapped to the footswitch buttons. I'll have to play with it and try and figure that out because it's so much easier than double tapping the RC-5. I just started playing recently so this is all new to me, but I got all of those for my katana MKII 100 but just figuring out how to update the amp and install tone studio on my MacBook Air m2 (which I got for the katana and recording with my band) took me more time than I thought. It wasn't hard, it's just figuring out MacOS along with the katana. It's a lot to take in all at once. This video is clutch, I watched the whole thing and have a feeling I might reference this again in the near future. Boss should hire this guy to write their instruction manual!

  • @stoicsceptic8420

    He confusion around the issue of blinking lights and BankA / BankB selection is based around the fact that you are using the line out to get your sound for you and the video and the amp is switched to ‘ Standby’ all the way through . Any of the selected CH1 to CH4 plus the panel button itself will blink at the rapid rate because the amp is in standby mode.
    Normally , when selected , the CH1-4 are steady lights , and the panel light is steady for ‘ panel’ , off for bank A , and slow blink for bank B . Great video though , thanks for the effort.

    Hey man, awesome video! Really helpful! Aside from that, I just updated my tone studio yesterday and now I have even more options to assign stuff. I got a whole new extra tab that says "expanded GA-FC/GA-FC EX" making it possible to change what happens when you put a GF-FC in your EX (I guess, I haven't played with it yet). Also because of the update, I did get the option to assign the 3rd expression pedal! (It al gets even more complex but I bet it opens a world to different options)

    Thank you so much for the description of how to use the Assign menu. Clearly not something Boss/Roland felt like describing... especially since they clearly fired the dev working on it. Why would they show all the functions for all things you don't have the expression pedal assigned to?! "I want to use it to control the FX depth on my flanger." Boss: Great, here's all the options for the booster and the mods, first! Every last one of them, discreetly! In Foot Volume, at the lowest, it starts to fade in perfectly, where as Volume, there is a point where it just comes on. • @DustinKreidler
      @DustinKreidler Před 4 měsíci

      @@Guitarnivore Forgot I wanted to both say thanks for looking into that, and also that I answered my own ignorant question about why the Assign screen would show every possible effect: So you can set all of them ahead of time, so that no matter what preset you load, your expression pedals will react the way you expect.
      In my head, it would only show the active effects for whatever preset you were currently on, which would obviously make it REALLY difficult to plan ahead for different effects/settings... I could ask for a cleaner interface (and instructions!) but in hindsight, being able to set every possible effect/expression interaction ahead of time is definitely the way to go! Cheers!
