The Spinners melded the soul of Detroit and Philadelphia and paved the way for generations of vocal groups. The New Edition official members are Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Ronnie DeVoe, and Johnny Gill.
In September 2011, 57 years after forming in Detroit and 50 years after "That's What Girls Are Made For", the group was announced as one of 15 final nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, their first nomination, they were also nominated in 2014, 2015, and 2023. Lead singer Bobby Smith died on March 16, 2013.
In early 2023, Henry Fambrough retired from the group, after almost 70 years as a member. On May 3, 2023, after three previous nominations, the Spinners-with its classic 1970s lineup of Fambrough, Bobby Smith, Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson, John Edwards, and Phillipe Wynne-were picked as inductees for the 2023 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, nearly 70 years after the group had first formed. - Hudba

This is not a boy band it is a musical singing group and the only group where each member had #1 hit outside the group...so happy to see NE finally get their recognition and the rock n roll Hall of Fame is next for them

Class act as always by NE. Only one Spinner still living I believe. NE had great guidance over the years with their outstanding choreographer and they also had the sense to listen to him. Outstanding group that deserve nothing but the best.

Brook Payne had them on point with the smooth moves. kudos to Ricky and Boddy. Ralph and Johnny never disappoint. Mike with that cool-sounding voice, hype man Ronnie. NE slid right into the RRHOF. Thanks, NE for giving Ricky and Bobby their solo spots, they did their thing. Keep on shining.

When I think of this song, I think of the late Thom Bell's work. He composed the song, did the arrangements, and made good on a promise to the Spinners about delivering hit records.

Ms. Creed also notably co-wrote "The Greatest Love of All" with Michael Masser

Thom co-wrote I'll Be Around and Rubberband Man. The Steals Brothers (Mystro & Lyric) wrote Could It Be I'm Falling In Love for Thom's publishing company.
@@kevingoins9858 Thanks for the clarification. I do recall that Mr. Bell was known to part ways over royalty issues during his time -- he did that previously with the label that stiffed the Delfonics (Stan Watson's Philly Groove Records).

I've been to two NE Concerts, 1 BBD Concert...I'm here to tell you these are my Fellas and they will have you sweating and singing every word of every song and mimicking each move....First time is when I was in High school back in 1989 with NE Heartbreak...The BBD concert was 1991 and then at the Cincinnati Music Festival a few years ago...I left light, happy and feeling like I was 18-19 years old again...I been rocking with NE since 1983...we talking American Bandstand, Video Soul and the NE Heartbreak Tour...a few of my classmates took pictures with them and one even got on the stage and danced with BBD...that was wild...these guys are awesome...you get a ticket for a concert and you will be investing in a Amazing time!!!
