    Well here is little fact about E2s, they had just one problem and that is the boiler and nothing else and too tight flandges on the Middle driving wheels and others like coal load and water galands are fine for all LBSCR tank engines and even the E2s

      3:02 I've especially wanted to mention that I personally saw a very specifically similar video talking 'bout the L B S C Railway's creation of the L B S C Railway E 2 class tank engines pointing out each of the flaws in the design as the coal bunkers along with the wheel base of the L B S C Railway class E 2 tank engine were obviously fine, but I personally just suddenly came up with the idea of officially adapting the drive wheels on the L B S C Railway class E 2 tank engines by making only the front pair of drive wheels along with the rare pair of drive wheels flanged WHILE the middle pair of drive wheels ain't gonna be flanged SINCE that'll certainly help 'em negotiate sharp bends easily meaning that my new generation of the L B S C Railway class E 2 tank engines will basically be obviously modified to be exactly 100% better performers due to a specific 55" drive wheel diameter, a pair of inside cylinders w/ a certain 18" diameter, a slightly higher by exactly 10 PSI boiler pressure making exactly 180 PSI boiler pressure instead of the original 170 PSI boiler pressure, a specifically grand 22,783 lbs of tractive effort, and especially a certain pair of modified side tanks on each side of the boiler that are officially capable of carrying exactly 1340 gallons of H2O in each side tank on each side of the boiler! Also, apparently for another fact is basically that I've especially decided to specifically fit an official air brake system on the new generation of the L B S C Railway class E 2 tank engines to apply the brakes on rolling stock very easily; which certainly would BASICALLY ALSO DEFINITELY result in not 1 single runaway train when goin' downhill! Thanks a bunch for sharing all the info 'bout what made Thomas the Tank Engine certainly very much considerably 100%more reliable than the other members of his classmates, Fan of Hiro! And now, it's completely obviously clear that I personally know how to improve the L B S C Railway class E 2 tank engines to make all of 'em better than they certainly were back in the glory days of steam-driven railway locomotives!

    It wasn’t the water tanks, it was the bad boiler that made the E2’s have low water capacity

  • @davidscholz3041

    I've personally wanted to mention that I personally love this video showing how Thomas the Tank Engine's slightly more successful than the rest of his own classmates on the L B S C Railway's creation of the E 2 class tank engines including a slightly bigger by exactly 1 inch drive wheels, a pair of slightly bigger by exactly 0.5" cylinders, a slightly higher by exactly 10 PSI boiler pressure, a total of exactly 22,783lbs of tractive effort, and especially a HIGHER H2O capacity of 1340 gallons of H2O in each of the extended side tanks on each side of his own short stumpy boiler! I've especially wanted to mention that I personally also apparently for another fact to suddenly definitely decided to make the middle pair of drive wheels on the tank engines be w/o flanges as a specific way to help the tank engines negotiate sharp bends easily! In fact, it's completely obviously clear that I personally decided to build exactly WAAAAAY more than just 10 of 'em from scratch while also apparently making 'em become smoother riding tank engines with a totally different boiler design, a much better type of proper kind of specific airbrake system, and especially for the very best part of all WOULD definitely be the officially required bulk-eye coupling device to couple/uncouple from all kinds of various types of different American origin rolling stock!

    Don't know if you have any interest, but I figured I'd share my headcannon for Thomas.
    (Hope you like essays!)
    E2s are notoriously large for a tank engine. Having one sit side-by-side with an A1 Pacific, you'll find they are about the same height (at least at the top of the boiler). However, every piece of media portrays Thomas as being notably smaller than Gordon.
    Having been built in Spring 1914, Thomas was a downsized version of an E2 tank engine, with the hope that he would be able to navigate sections of the yards that were off limits to the rest of his class. He was given a larger coal bunker and water tank extension to help keep his actual capacity about the same. It became apparent that downsizing him would result in his driver and fireman not having enough space to work effectively, so they gave him a larger cab. Unfortunately, this design change was made in the middle of his build, and it wasn't until he had been completed that it became apparent his size difference (at least in length) was not the improvement the LBSCR had hoped for. He was able to access more of the yards, but it wasn't enough of a difference to justify duplicating the design. The LBSCR painted him an unusual livery - bright green with white lining. The reason for this unusual design was to make it easier for potential buyers to track his movements in the yards - they wanted to sell Thomas and his design, in hopes of getting back some of the money spent building him. As time went on, it became clear no one seemed interested in Thomas, until orders from the War Department dictated Thomas was to be sent to a factory in Scotland; here he would work for the war effort. Begrudgingly, Thomas and his crew boarded a ship for Scotland.
    They never got that far.
    As the ship sailed, it encountered bad weather, and the captain decided to take cover at the nearest port - this being Barrow-in-Furness. The next morning, it was discovered the ship had developed a serious leak, and had to be repaired on the spot - Thomas, his crew, and all the cargo were unloaded, so that the ship could be drydocked for extensive repairs. With nothing else to do, Thomas was tasked with shunting duties while he waited. (The war effort meant that any non-essential traffic had to avoid the mainline. Thomas, in this case, qualified as such.)
    A few days later the ship was almost ready for the sea. The night before it was to be loaded, Thomas had a chance encounter with another engine. This engine, a GNR Class J23, told Thomas he was heading to a railway on Sodor. Thomas, not exactly eager to work in a factory, told the engine this, and found that engine liked the idea of working in factory much more, as he was used to this lifestyle. The two practically begged their crews to make the arrangements. To everyone's surprise, the captain of the ship actually agreed with the scheme, as it would force him to carry less explosives. (Thomas was much lighter than the J23.) The two traded places, and Thomas headed to Sodor, while the J23 was loaded onto the ship.
    The ship carrying the J23 arrived and unloaded safely, but it never actually left the harbor. At some point while being loaded, something went amiss, and the entire ship (along with a large chunk of the dock) was blown to bits. No one on board survived the accident, and any paperwork relating to the two engines had been lost. The J23, having only suffered minor damage, did not wish to fall under suspicion for the explosion, and refused to talk. While the LBSCR eventually managed to figure out this was not their engine, the fog of war combined with the engine not talking lead them to assume Thomas had been completely destroyed in the explosion.
    It was not until 1921, when Sir Topham Hatt was going through paperwork, that he noticed a discrepancy. Digging further, he discovered that Thomas was _not_ the engine that had been originally ordered. While he was hesitant to contact the LBSCR, he ultimately decided to do so. A representative from the company came to Sodor, and confirmed Thomas (by now in NWR blue) was indeed their engine. Thomas and his crew expressed they did not wish to return to the mainland.. The LBSCR were not exactly eager to get Thomas back either, as not only was Thomas a non-standard design (he had a lot of unique parts), but they had been wanting to sell him anyway. With the NWR having a locomotive crisis, and the LBSCR wanting to be done with Thomas, it was agreed that Thomas would be sold for cheap. The LBSCR, after all, was not interested in going through a mountain of paperwork to get back an engine they had no intent on keeping.

    I've personally wanted to mention that I personally came up with the official idea of BASICALLY building a new generation of the L B S C Railway's creation of the L B S C Railway class E2 tank engines from scratch with the official modifications of increasing the diameter of the drive wheels from 54" up to exactly 55" as mentioned in this video along with APPARENTLY also increasing the diameter of the cylinders from 17.5" up to exactly 18" as also apparently mentioned in the video as well as officially SIMPLY increasing the boiler pressure from 170 PSI right up to exactly 180 PSI as also apparently mentioned in the video as to increase the amount of tractive effort to exactly 22,783 lbs of tractive effort from the original 21,307 lbs of tractive effort as well as for the last modification of increasing the amount of H2O in each side tank up to exactly 1,340 gallons of H2O in each side tank! I've especially wanted to mention that I personally got a hunch that the L B S C Railway certainly WOULD DEFINITELY 100% ACTUALLY WON'T EVEN MIND if I personally do just that SINCE it'll be in their honor! Also, apparently for another fact is basically that I've especially decided to also modify 'em with the official requirements for American origin-styled railroads! Those exact modifications WOULD DEFINITELY include a cowcatcher in front to move livestock off the tracks, a certain set of official automatic buckeye coupling devices on each end of the locomotive's to help with pulling official American origin-styled rolling stock, a very specifically shiny brass bell to ring loudly over grade crossings during journeys, and especially a very specifically shiny new type of steam whistle that sounds like the whistle from the popular TV show known as Thomas & Friends starring Thomas the Tank Engine himself!

    Ashfur and Ferncloud, two warrior cats characters actually have locomotive forms that heavily resemble the E2's with a few external differences...
    1. Ashfur and Ferncloud's driving wheels are identical in size to the ones on the Union Pacific Big Boy
    2. They have identical boilers to that of the Frisco T-54 Mountain Type locomotives, the boiler pressure of the T-54 is I believe 240 PSI, thats been left alone, the boiler however is also thicker to make a boiler failure less likely to happen, this increased the locomotive weight from 52 tons to about 75 tons, so very good track adhesion and a fair amount of tractive effort
    3. Ashfur and Ferncloud have two outside cylinders and a single inside cylinder, all 3 have a similar or identical design to that of the UP 9000 Series, using a hybrid of Walschaerts and Gresley valve gear, so you can set the cutoff...
    Final difference. Ashfur and Ferncloud have a special pipe that's connected to their water tanks to allow an auxiliary tender to be hooked up

    Loved this profile, managed to sum everything pretty well, so great job, and props for making Thomas an upgraded E2.
    I have a few questions btw:
    So Thomas never receives a flat running board in your headcanon? Interesting.
    And second, what is the diameter of Thomas’s piston stroke so that his tractive effort is 22,783 lbf?
    Yet again, very good video.

    • @fanofhiro808
      @fanofhiro808  Před rokem +1

      1. No
      2. It's the same as on a regular E2, which is 26 inches. But the higher boiler preassure and the increase in the cylinder diameter contributed to the increase in tractive effort. So did the drivers, although they actually brought it slighlty down

    • @Alarcj7
      @Alarcj7 Před rokem

      @@fanofhiro808 Oh, thanks for clearing that.
      I actually did the tractive effort formula and considering everything else barring the 55 inch drivers and 180 psi boiler was the same, and I got 23,434 lbf as a result, so I wanted to know what else was changed so that the result becomes 22,783 lbf.
